On a semi related note the more I am subjected to Microsoft products the more I become convinced that the reason so many people these days believe themselves to be “bad with computers” is that the programs they are forced to use in their professional life are utterly incomprehensible to ANY rational human being and they are (rightfully enough) extrapolating out that this is just how computers are. They aren't!!! In their quest to remove all the “scary” details from their poor fragile end users Microsoft have created an ecosystem that behaves completely erratically and unpredictably and is by definition unknowable. Things just happen. Then they stop happening. Nothing ever announces why or how. Just a thousand vague and useless popups that may or may not be there tomorrow. I PROMISE computers are actually extremely simple and logical beasts.

#brain.txt #the biggest barrier to widespread linux adoption is the fear of learning something new and i get it i really do #when youre at zero knowledge and dont even know where to begin its completely overwhelming and so much easier to stick with what you know #but the problem is no one ever really knows windows #youre sharing your room with a wild animal #you believe you know its mannerisms well enough to know when it is hungry and what it likes and dislikes but one day it might lash out #and there will be no way of ever knowing why #with open source software the only barrier to knowledge is how far you want your own curiosity to carry you at present #and yeah! ill readily admit!! theres plenty of components of my system i dont know too much about right now #but i feel inherently less lost and helpless knowing that the information is out there and i am actually capable of reading it #instead of someone actively obfuscating all possible attempts at understanding and also constantly changing everything from under me #(i have never owned a mac in my life so idk whats going on over there but my general impression seems to be that mac at least gets the whole #walled garden thing right in the sense that it is a cohesive and functional experience despite being extremely locked in. which i have more #respect for as a solution i am not interested in but i can see the appeal of rather than the FUCKING DISASTER microsoft has unleashed)

I have not forgotten the adorable mouse that won the poll for what I should sew next but my job decided the day before we switch to a new software to entirely change how paperwork is processed in the new software. I am the one who has to train everyone in the change. I do not know how to process the paperwork the new way and can't learn because the IT guy did not give me the permissions in the system to access the buttons needed so I just can't see the entire interface at all. I do not have the mental spoons for pattern designing at the moment so I might just sew a baby blanket or something instead

I'm playing around with Obsidian. I might do an update here once I figure out a good setup. I just wanted to mention that I was so hesitant to try this software bc everyone was like ooooooh it has a steeeep learning curve, here is a 10hr video curse.

And then I install it and it's just a very friendly software with tons of customization options . . .

#sure I'll watch videos to get inspiration #and spend hours probably poking around in the plugins and themes #but there is literally no reason why you couldn't use it out of the box #stop scaring people lol #tech stuff #nara's writing diary #I realize this came across as if I don't want to use complex software #that's not what I meant I just don't have the time to learn something completely new beside also writing #and don't want to recommend something very convoluted to other people

vaguely speculating on the vocal synthesis industry like its fantasy football completely unprompted: if somehow either synthv or cevio managed to get a hold of nurse robo type t for a commercial AI voicebank i think that would usher in her era fully. we're already basically there with how much her talk banks and occasionally her utau banks are used in so many songs..... i keep saying this but i think the nurse robo era is nigh..........

another fun tech fool decision ive made is that im highly aware of the foibles of having all your files saved to one specific machine, particularly being unable to access them on other computers, yet i nurse an instinctive hatred for the cloud. Bro I Do Not Trust You

I’m finally getting the hang of using procreate instead of my OG software, sketchbook (it’s trash but it’s my trash okay?). It took awhile to figure out which brushes work best for how I draw but I think I finally got it and this is the result

being a kid was thinking surely being an adult can’t be that bad but i just spent 2 and a half hours on a thursday morning trying to install a new antivirus on my laptop and now i either have to kill myself or go out and spend 7 dollars on coffee to cope

#like. it’s the little things like that that just. eat away at your soul or something like i get it now.#it took 2 hours because i just bought the one i bought last year bc i had such a terrible fucking time last year #uninstalling the old one and trying to remove every part of it bc i have a macbook and i don’t know how to use it still so i can’t #control panel uninstall like om windows. so anyway i just rebought the new version and i download it and the first thing it says to me??????#uninstall old software. BRO. you ARE the old software. but ok so i spend 30 minutes doing that #with the goddamn library/ whatever folders over and over and over again and on my moms laptop too #and so i’m like ok i think i got it all so i go to install it again and it’s like. you have no internet or the program isnt working.#try again. so i’m like. ok. so i do and it’s like ok. so i wait 30 more minutes before i’m like ??#anyway i go back and read the description of the thing and yeah last yeah they phased out my os #SO i’m like ok. ok. now i already spent the money on something i can’t use and ofc i bought it through amazon so when i called the company #they were like we can’t help u i’m like yeah i didn’t think so but thanks anyway. anyway. amazon helped me and i got a different program and #that installed in 3 minutes so anyway fuck apple for always phasing out old os and fuck mcafee for doing it too #and my mom and i have been fighting for like 2 weeks now and i’m just truly reaching my limit #but i still have to go out and buy her a bday present this afternoon like why can’t life just be good and fun ever
