The fact is the mass consolidation of wikis and fan sites into single sites was basically a trap to force those communities to deal with the eventual enshittification of the platform that absorbed them. Some of us had the foresight and hands to see this coming and avoid this, but others are now trying to escape and stand on their own at last. The UESP isn't alone, Indie Wiki Buddy has a pretty good list (and extension to help you find them).
Are there any other independent wikis/fan communities that you care about still out there? We'd love to hear about them.

Chapter 108 is still part of the Emerald Witch Arc
I've seen a bit of confusion about what the last chapter of the Emerald Witch Arc is ("Ch107 or Ch108?"), so I thought to make a little clarification post!
In 2021, Mr K made a very helpful tweet in which he introduced each of the manga's arcs, i.a., giving brief synopses as well as all arcs' chapter/volume ranges.
(Translation)
When an arc does not end with the end of a volume, Mr K stated this in his notes for the next arc:
The Phantomhive Manor Murders Arc runs from Volume 9 to Volume 11. At first glance, Mr K's note might indicate that this arc begins with Chapter 38 (the first chapter of Volume 9) and ends with Chapter 52 (the last chapter of Volume 11). That is not the case, however!
In the info for the next arc, the Luxury Liner Arc, Mr K wrote that it begins in Volume 11 with Chapter 51. Thus, the Manor Murders Arc ends with Chapter 50, not 52.
As you can see, Mr K stated that the Emerald Witch Arc spans from Chapter 86 in Volume 18 to Volume 22. Volume 22 ends with Chapter 108! (It technically ends with Chapter 107.5 but it is not relevant here as it is non-canon.)
And because Mr K did not write that the Blue Cult Arc begins with "Volume 22, Chapter 108" but firmly with the start of Volume 23 (Chapter 109), the Emerald Witch Arc's last chapter is Chapter 108, not 107.
(The new wiki on wiki.gg sorts Chapter 108 correctly, whereas the Fandom Wiki does not, btw!^^*)
*It also correctly sorts Ch5 into the Red Butler Arc too
#kuroshitsuji#black butler#kuroshitsuji: emerald witch arc#(narratively ch108 fits better into the witch arc than into the blue cult arc too)#(this means we have 2 episodes and 4 more chapters left!)#(the question is of course whether ch108 IS animated but after cloverworks gave us ch85 too I doubt they will skip ch108)#(one of the new preview images is also from ch107!)#wiki stuff

Congratulations to Vocaloid Lyrics Wiki for their clean move from Fandom! And congratulations to Fandom for losing a huge Wiki: their iteration of it, old as it was, has now been closed.
We can say thank you to Fandom for making things easier for everybody. (This is said with a sarcastic tone: they randomly caused issues for a legit Wiki that had been established for years. Some confidence they have.) It's rare for a Wiki to move and have the Fandom Wiki deleted, so personally, I'm overjoyed.
Read your Vocaloid Lyrics over there:

THE FLASHBANG IS DEAD.
welcome. to all. to the new and improved isatwiki. dark edition.
thanks to the continous efforts of Hab (hotairballoon on the wiki) we have a brand new theme!!! He wrote the entire thing himself, I tested it out, and decided.... it's ready.
there's no more flashbang. no longer will you open isatwiki at 3am, desparately searching for obscure game trivia, only to have your retinas burned out.
if you visit the wiki and the skin is Not there for you - clear your browser's cache.
and if there are any issues with this skin!! poor visibility, thinks displaying weirdly, obscure message windows we missed during testing (i found some really damn obscure message windows, man.), please!!! speak up and let me know. either here or on the wiki channel on discord.
i simply. have to proclaim it to the high heavens. it's dead. it's gone yall. we're no longer rocking that default theme

may we see ur wiki,,,,,
The wiki is currently set as private and I'm still learning how to fucking manage a wiki in general so as of this exact moment I am unsure how someone gets to request and receive permission with these settings, but it's definitely my goal to figure out how to do this at some point this year.
I've been super busy this dec/jan so it's not something I've had the time for just yet, but the second shit starts to calm down I want to look into it.
Right now the wiki is full of dictionary entries like this.
And some articles like this one.
But it's not growing super fast so you're really not missing much. At the moment the area with most action is me setting up templates for when I'm ready to start adding Supernalese language dictionary entries.
#conlang#constructed languages#dungeons and dragons#forgotten realms#miraheze#wiki stuff#you may note there's nothing showing the elven script and the reason for that is I want to make a better font before uploading it that way#not that the one I have now is /bad/ I just want to have a harder crack at it#long post

The TARDIS index files are in a similar format to Teletext, and even with the infinite knowledge it has, some of its articles are stubs, much like a wiki.

How hard was it to create/run the CR wiki? Asking as someone who is considering making a non-Fandom wiki for a different fandom
Hey anon! I'm going to keep this brief for a number of reasons but please do not hesitate to message me off anon to chat in depth. We've also had people come into the wiki discord occasionally from other fandoms and ask for advice, if you're interested in doing that!
We copied the Fandom wiki over with full attribution (valid under the specific Creative Commons licenses in use), which had its own challenges but meant we were not starting from scratch on a technical level in terms of both content and templates. If you are creating a brand new wiki rather than a fork of an existing one, you will need to think about infrastructure on a level we mostly have not. I have some general programming background from being in STEM but I'm not a programmer which I add to give some context to what I can contribute to infrastructure. I could not have done this alone, and the setup took about a month, and I'm not going to lie, it was a stressful month. But yeah, can't speak to what it's like from scratch.
As for running: It's definitely a not-insignificant time commitment and one I am trying to be thoughtful in how I manage, but to be honest the bulk of my time commitment is editing rather than administration duties, and your mileage may vary depending on who is joining you. Once the wiki is set up, if you have a strong editorship you can be somewhat hands off (though I think to be a good admin you should be a regular editor, or at least keeping abreast of what's going on). The most difficult things have been deciding how to respond during times of technical/platform issues, or deciding how to handle new content such as Midst or Candela Obscura.
I think my biggest piece of advice is to decide on your policies before you go live. If you write the policies as they are needed without having the bare bones topics (feel free to check out our policy pages, and I recommend a glance at those of both Wikipedia and Wookiepedia, from which we drew a lot of inspiration, to get started) then no matter how good your intentions are you run the risk of acting defensively rather than in the interests of providing a resource to the fandom.

I’ve been seeing some misconceptions in Katamari lore interpretations, which is why I reorganized the Cosmic Species page to be far more readable. Let me clear some things up while we are here:
•Not all Cousins are blood related to the Prince. However, it is very ambiguous as to which cousins are relatives or friends of the Prince. Exceptions include Marny, Princess, Pokkle, etc.
•Cosmic is technically the proper term for their species. Though it can also be used to describe other species of the Cosmos, it is the best we have. This label has been used in the Chateau Notre Desir and Cowbear stages.
•Sometimes they’re simply as humanoid as we are. They require a lot of the same things as us, including carbohydrates and calcium. These are confirmed through Bandai Namco’s Twitter and the Chateau Notre Desir stage.
•The King has scary teeth

More will be added soon, but please reblog to share.

Season 5: The spoken German
I have decided to add transcripts of the spoken German with English translations (and corrections to the German if needed) to the episode pages on the wiki because, sometimes, what they say and what is given in the subtitles do not quite match. It has been a fun thing to do so far!
Full transcripts and translations:
Episode 58: "His Butler, Doing Fieldwork"
Episode 59: "His Butler, Sounding the Alarm"
The annotations and the table format make it difficult to turn this into a blog post, sorry!
Additional notes:
When the main trailer was released, I wrote that Hilde and the villagers said "Zuteiler" which I concluded was meant to be "Mitteiler." However, in the episode proper, Finnian and the unnamed villagers who speak right after him say "Zuträger" very clearly which is a correct word for "informants." (It is specifically a derogatory term for informants.) Hilde and the others, therefore, must likely be saying "Zuträger" too! (It is not as clear when they say it, but when you know what they are meant to say and strain to listen a bit, it fits.)
Ciel also said Sebastian's name the German way when talking to Sieglinde which was nice, and Sebastian pronounced the names of the food items well (though Bratwurst was a little rough), particularly rote Grütze.
#kuroshitsuji#black butler#kuroshitsuji: emerald witch arc#wiki stuff#honestly only a couple of mistakes so far! <3 they're doing well they worked hard on this^^#(they're also very much speaking High German and not East Franconian - that might have been a bit too much for them)#Hilde's Zuträger and the coachman's einigermaßen were the most tricky words but the rest I understood fine#but I know many others did not^^'

The Akudama Drive Wiki has a brand new desktop theme!
It was necessary for multiple reasons! (One of which is... SEO. Boring!) Visit the Wiki for yourself here ヽ(✿゚▽゚)ノ
This new theme is largely an improvement for its responsiveness to Akudama Drive's unavoidable dark mode:
It uses the Timeless skin, which is more responsive to dark mode than Vector-2022 and less likely to be deeply impacted by MediaWiki updates.
By "more responsive" I mean that it was easier to fix black-on-black elements, and those are less likely to be impacted by MediaWiki updates, so they should come up less!
Editor, which was barely legible as of the most recent update, is now back to normal.
Unrelated to dark mode - Junior is finally on the landing page! I finally found a way to make him fit.
Troubleshooting advice:
Note that Miraheze's cache can take a while to update. If after a long time, the theme still looks like the past theme or a mix of the two, try clearing your browser's cache, or potentially the site's cache and cookies.
If the theme doesn't look like Timeless and you have a Miraheze account, make sure that you haven't selected a different theme in your account's preferences. (Accessible in the top right of the page.)
If you find an issue with the theme that cannot be explained by either of these options, you can send me an ask or a message on my Talk page explaining the bug.
I will continue to improve the Wiki as time goes, but this is a huge change! See the previous appearance below:

Question, https://instarsandtime.wiki.gg/wiki/In_Stars_and_Time_Wiki
is this the proper wiki link? I literally finished the game today, and I'd love to contribute. I'm really glad it's not a fandom wiki! since I've heard horror stories about that corporate bloated mess. Why do you prefer wiki.gg btw? I don't know much about various wiki options, sksksks, I just look at the drama with fandom.wiki curiously
that is the correct link, yes! We actually forked from the fandom wiki in November. (though i only started contributing to the wiki directly after the fork)
Honestly, wiki.gg is just a very convenient option! I know ITR handled the entire fork with help from the wiki.gg team. It's an established site and pretty reliable host for the moment (I know people were talking about miraheze being shaky, but I don't really know.) We have support from an established team, we don't need to pay for independant hosting, we get a lot of resources and help, so it's a pretty sweet deal. (Thank you to the bureaucrat who made me admin this week~ mwah~)
All i remember is, I knew the wiki existed, and I said I'm not adding to it till we're off fandom, and boom, we were. (I wasn't the catalyst for it, mind, but I'd like to think I helped motivate the move at least a little bit.) (In the end, we are just one of many wikis that migrated in the wake of the Hollow Knight wiki and the famous mossbag video which motivated many, many wikis to finally ditch fandom).
Actually, watch that video for a good rundown on the troubles with Fandom. The tldr is: way too much censorship, too many ads with no control over them, basically no customization options, absolutely no respect for wiki editors, and the potential that your wiki will be subjected to corporate vandalism with no way out. Fandom sucks!
Hope you enjoy your stay on the isatwiki!! I'm actually so ecstatic my little post got people to contribute.
#Feli gets asked#wiki stuff#<- starting a tag for it cuz it'll probably be relevant#wikigg is a fast growing popular host that i havent really heard anything bad over! i didnt decide where to migrate (again i became active#AFTER the move) so only ITR could provide details#they've been pretty inactive though and i just filled the power vacuum by pretending to be the wiki despot#which eventually resulted in me actually being promoted#yes i was not admin before this week. but. i was basically in all but title since like. january lmao.

March (M)edit Madness!
This event is an attempt to concentrate work on the wiki over the course of the month of March!
Stretch goals for the month are:
Complete all LCB ID pages, including having all images uploaded
15% (or about 12) of the LC Abnormalities completed
The first two "floors" of Ruina transcripts completed (Though open to change from the Ruina editors!)
Even if these goals are NOT what you are working on, you're still eligible for the GRAND PRIZE: a $20 steam gift card to the person with the most edits* this month! Depending on turnout, smaller prizes may be given out!
Here is a presentation by our lovely host! We hope you can participate!
Discord Link
* Edits will be scrutinized for their quality over their quantity. Someone with a million edits that are all them writing one letter at a time in a transcript, for instance, will be considered spam and will disqualify them. Further action such as a ban from editing the wiki may also be taken.
* While these will not disqualify you, 'fix' edits such as fixing a typo on a large edit you've just completed will not count as additional edits.
