シンセ開発ログ 2023-08-06: Pico用シンセ「PRA32-U」を開発中／MCLKが必要なDACに対応／USB-MIDI変換の問題／UART MIDI制御は安定

Pico用シンセ「PRA32-U」を開発中

「Digital Synth PRA32-U」は、Raspberry Pi Picoとオーディオ用DAC基板（Pimoroni Pico Audio PackやWaveshare Pico-Audio）を使った、誰でも作れるシンセサイザー（MIDI音源）です。ソースコードはフリーで、Arduino IDEを使って改造できます。最初のバージョン（v0.1）はArduino UNO R3用シンセサイザー「Digital Synth VRA8-U」を移植したもので、これをベースに改善や機能追加を進めています。「Maker Faire Tokyo 2023」にv1を出展予定です。

MCLKが必要なDACに対応

前回の投稿で、Pico用DAC基板の供給不足について心配していました（PRA32-Uを簡単に作れなくなるかも）が、Pimoroni公式でPico Audio Packの販売が再開されました。他のショップでの売り切れも収まっていくのではないかと思います。 https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/pico-audio-pack?variant=32369490853971

USB-MIDI変換の問題

PRA32-Uは、USB MIDIによる制御が基本なので、ライブなどでPC無しでMIDIキーボードを接続したい場合には、USB-MIDI変換（USBホスト）機器を使う必要があります。しかし、変換機器経由でキーボードからPRA32-Uに大量のMIDIメッセージを送信（4和音ノートオン／オフをたくさん実行）すると、ノートオフメッセージを取りこぼす（音が鳴りっぱなしになる）場合がありました。楽器として大問題です。また、変換機器にMIDIメッセージがたまってしまい、処理が遅延するようでした。

以下の3機器、どれも問題発生しました。ただ、下に行くほど発生率は低くなる印象でした。

KENTONでは、KORG nanoKEY Studioのコードパッドやイージースケールで演奏した場合は、問題発生しませんでした。しかし、M-AUDIOb Oxygen Pro Miniで大量のコード演奏を行った場合は、問題発生しました。（実際にこのような演奏を行う可能性は低そうですが）

Adafruit TinyUSBコンフィグファイルでMIDI FIFO size of TX and RXを大きくしても、問題回避できませんでした。

Windows PC経由でUSB MIDI接続した場合、CME WIDI Uhostに接続した場合は、問題発生していません。

おそらく、変換機器とPRA32-U（Pico）の両方に原因があるのではないかと思います。低確率ですが、Roland S-1でもノートオフメッセージを取りこぼす場合がありました。USB MIDIの規格では最大通信スピードが規定されていないよう（詳しくは調べていません）ですが、31.25kbpsくらいに抑えて欲しい気がします。

この問題は将来的に改善したいところですが、とりあえず現状でヨシとして進めたいと思います。特に、オープンソース化される予定のPico用MIDI 2.0ライブラリに期待します。

UART MIDI制御は安定

PRA32-Uは、UARTでも制御できます。通信スピードを31.25kbpsにして、以下のような3.3V MIDI-UART変換に対応した拡張ボードを接続すれば、DIN/TRS MIDIでも制御できます。MIDIキーボードを直接接続したい場合には、この方法を使うのが安全そうです。

阿里云ECS迁移记录

Situation:

公司的原有服务器部署存在诸多问题。

原有的Linux服务器都是放在阿里云的经典网络中，只有一台流媒体服务器是 windows 系统，运行在VPC中，在 VPC 中的 Windows 与在经典网络中的Linux之间通过建立 ClassicLink连接打通内网。公司另有一个阿里云账号B，名下的服务器是在VPC中，需要与阿里云账号A名下的服务器之间通过内网通信，但是一台经典网络ECS实例只能连接到一个VPC（同账号且同地域），且业务要求阿里云账号B下的服务器是不能过户到阿里云账号A名下的，Linux服务器（运行着公司的核心业务）是无法与账号B名下的服务器内网打通。

放在经典网络中的服务器的安全组规则是黑名单的形式，公网入连接的缺省规则是允许，很多不应该暴露在公网上的服务比如 redis, mysql 还有系统自带的 postfix 都是从公网可以连接的，我刚入职没多久就发生公司的一台重要服务器被入侵并安置挖矿程序的安全事件，虽然后来我添加了一些规则弥补漏洞，但整个安全组的规则列表很复杂，不易维护。

公司以前购买的实例类型都是入门级的（共享型的），由于阿里云的价格策略的调整，入门级的实例比相同配置的企业级实例价格贵不少，性能却不如企业级实例稳定，更换实例类型需要重启，会影响业务运行。

应用之间的耦合度高，部署缺乏规范，服务器资源的使用也不均衡合理，有些服务器的磁盘空间告急，有些服务器的磁盘空间使用率却很低。有两台部署了DB的服务器负载很高，其它服务器的CPU和内存资源利用率却很低。

系统采用 CentOS 6，即将结束维护，在安装一些软件时会因为系统版本太旧遇到一些问题。

Task:

重新部署一套业务系统，合理分配服务器资源，重新设计安全组规则，打通两个账号之间的网络。

Action:

在VPC中购买服务器，系统采用CentOS7，重新部署好一整��应用，并进行一定程度的规范化，应用程序之间的交互改为使用域名替换原先的ip，通过ansible来管理服务器的 /etc/hosts 中解析设置。将数据备份、ftp和weedfs 等对io要求不高、但对磁盘空间消耗比较大的数据都放在高效云盘而非SSD上以节省成本。新的安全组规则采用白名单，使用云企业网打通两个账号名下的VPC。新系统测试完毕后，修改域名解析切换到新系统，旧的接入服务器的某些应用依赖ip，先使用TCP代理就请求导入到新系统，观察一段时间没有问题后，将接入服务器迁入到VPC之后将需要保留的ip转为EIP，绑定到实现配置好的SLB上。使用两台1核2G内存40G高效云盘的服务器替代原先一台2核16G内存 300G SSD云盘的服务器提供流媒体服务，由SLB提供负载均衡，原先 windows 服务器上运行的 active mq 迁移到Linux Server 上。额外增加一台低配但是存储空间足够的服务器作为文件服务器。

Result:

原先一些不便直接在生产环境中调整的问题得到调整，不用服务被清理掉，整体安全性大大提高，系统可维护性明显改善，应用之间的耦合度有所降低，DB所在服务器的负载和内存使用率均得到有效降低，整体费用与原先相当。

迁移过程中的经验教训:

最开始我是打算采用渐进的方式切换到新系统，后来发现这样操作比较复杂，需要对应用之间的交互情况非常了解，且每次切换都会影响到相关应用，每次都要跟开发人员协调安排应用的重启，导致事情的进度非常缓慢，因此挨上司的批评。后来重新设计方案，采用整体迁移的方式，现在新服务器上部署好环境，新系统与旧系统之间是分离的，对新系统进行测试，测试通过之后进行安排时间统一进行迁移，事情进展就顺利多了。我在这次迁移过程中，遇到困难，并没有及时向领导反馈寻求帮助，工作的进度也不主动反馈，也没有能力推动相关开发人员配合我的工作，直到后来是他要求我先把新系统完全部署好再统一进行迁移，并督促开发人员自己把需要修改的应用修改好。事情的进展才变得比较顺利。

迁移需要将数据从旧的数据库导入到新服务器上的数据库实例，我采用主从复制的方式，发现主从复制延时很大，就修改从库的一些设置，

原先的设置是

sync_binlog = 1 sync-master-info = 1 sync-relay-log = 1 sync-relay-log-info = 1

被我在命令行改为

SET GLOBAL sync_binlog=0; SET GLOBAL sync_master_info=10000; SET GLOBAL sync_relay_log=10000; SET GLOBAL sync_relay_log_info=10000;

我们有两个mysql主从复制集群，其中一个在这样设置之后很快主从复制延迟很快就降为0，但是另一个没有明显效果，所以当天切换的时候，一个数据库实例仍然使用旧的，使用nginx反向代理进行访问。次日该数据库的主从复制延迟降大大下降，但仍然有900s左右，不过延迟在不断增加，我觉得明天早上延迟可能会降为0，但是上司决定不等了，让另一个开发同事准备好sql脚本，当日晚上，停掉了主从复制，确定主从之间的差异，从库启用可写，然后将应用切换到从库，将差异部分的数据从原先的主库中导出来再导入从库。我事先虽然知道主从复制可能会有延迟，但是并没有提前做好应对措施，直到切换当天下午才导入备份数据并进行同步，结果到要进行割接时，主从复制的延迟仍然有10个小时左右，我本来应该早点配置主从的，或者应该重新备份主库（那个主库数据量相对并不大，备份对业务的影响应该不会很大），尽可能地减少开始复制前的主从差异。

我们的业务中有使用到 vsftpd, 我在新环境中部署 vsftpd, 测试正常，设备（公司卖给客户使用的设备）也能正常登录，但是上传的文件大小都是0，但是我可以正常上传文件，这个跟设备使用的ftp client 代码有关连，但既然设备与旧系统能够正常交互，部分原因也应该在新系统这边，不知道是不是因为 CentOS 7 带的 vsftpd 版本与 CentOS 6 版本不同的缘故，也许跟服务器在 VPC 中，从公网访问要经过 NAT，这个问题可能是 NAT 导致的，这个问题使得我并没有给所有服务器部署 CentOS 7，并且给设备 ftp 服务器配置公网IP时采用弹性网卡，弹性网卡绑定的 EIP 是操作系统可见的（就是不用NAT）。

切割时，DNS解析要10分钟才能生效，这段时间有客户反馈有问题，因为相关接入的流量已经切换到新系统，但是客户访问的平台网站仍然是旧系统的。我事先应该修改旧系统中的 SLB 配置，让用户能立即访问到新系统。

Astronomers Reveal That WASP-18b Has Smothering Stratosphere Without cellular router vendor Water

A NASA-led team of scientists determined that WASP-18b, a “hot Jupiter” located 325 light-years from Earth, has a stratosphere that’s loaded with carbon monoxide, or CO, but has no signs of water.

A NASA-led team has found evidence that the oversized planet WASP-18b is wrapped in a smothering stratosphere loaded with carbon monoxide and devoid of water. The findings come from a new analysis of observations made by the Hubble and Spitzer space telescopes.

The formation of a stratosphere layer in a planet’s atmosphere is attributed to “sunscreen”-like molecules, which absorb UV and visible radiation coming from the star and then release that energy as heat. The new study suggests that the “hot Jupiter” WASP-18b, a massive planet that orbits very close to its host star, remote monitoring has an unusual composition, and the formation of this world might have been quite different from that of Jupiter as well as gas giants in other planetary systems.

“The composition of WASP-18b defies all expectations,” said Kyle Sheppard of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, lead author of the paper published in the Astrophysical Journal Letters. “We don’t know of any other extrasolar planet where carbon monoxide so completely dominates the upper atmosphere.”

On Earth, ozone absorbs UV in the stratosphere, protecting our world from a lot of the Sun’s harmful radiation. For the handful of exoplanets with stratospheres, the absorber is typically thought to be a molecule such as titanium oxide, a close relative of titanium dioxide, used on Earth as a paint pigment and sunscreen ingredient.

The researchers looked at data collected for WASP-18b, located 325 light-years from Earth, as part of a survey to find exoplanets with stratospheres. The heavyweight planet, which has the mass of 10 Jupiters, has been observed repeatedly, allowing astronomers to accumulate a relatively large trove of data. This study analyzed five eclipses from archived Hubble data and two from Spitzer.

From the light emitted by the planet’s atmosphere at infrared wavelengths, beyond the visible region, it’s possible to identify the spectral fingerprints cost-effective industrial LTE router of water and some other important molecules. The analysis revealed WASP-18b’s peculiar fingerprint, which doesn’t resemble any exoplanet examined so far. To determine which molecule iiot s were most likely to match it, the team carried out extensive computer modeling.

“The only consistent explanation for the data is an overabundance of carbon monoxide and very little water vapor in the atmosphere of WASP-18b, in addition to the presence of a stratosphere,” said Nikku Madhusudhan a co-author of the study from the University of Cambridge. “This rare combination of factors opens a new window into our understanding of physicochemical processes in exoplanetary atmospheres.”

The findings indicate that WASP-18b has hot carbon monoxide in the stratosphere and cooler carbon monoxide in the layer of the atmosphere below, called the troposphere. The team determined this by detecting two types of carbon monoxide signatures, an absorption signature at a wavelength of about 1.6 micrometers and an emission signature at about 4.5 micrometers. This is the first time researchers have detected both types of fingerprints for a single type of molecule in an exoplanet’s atmosphere.

In theory, another possible fit for the observations is carbon dioxide, which has a similar fingerprint. The researchers ruled this out because if there were enough oxygen available to form carbon dioxide, the atmosphere also should have some water vapor.

To produce the spectral fingerprints seen by the team, the upper atmosphere of WASP-18b would have to be loaded with carbon monoxide. Compared to other hot Jupiters, this planet’s atmosphere likely would contain 300 times more “metals,” or elements heavier than hydrogen and helium. This extremely high metallicity would indicate WASP-18b might have accumulated greater amounts of solid ices during its formation than Jupiter, suggesting it may not have formed the way other hot Jupiters did.

“The expected launch of the James Webb Space Telescope and other future space-based observatories will give us the opportunity to follow up with even more powerful instruments and to continue exploring the amazing array of exoplanets out there,” said Avi Mandell, an exoplanet scientist at Goddard and the second author of the paper.

最优秀的浏览器应该可以直接翻墙。

下载并安装好 gogoCLIENT 软件之后，你就可以通过以下三种方法访问 Google、Twitter、YouTube 以及其他支持 IPv6 的被墙网站：

1、在网站域名后面添加 .sixxs.org 后缀，例如：通过 Google.com.sixxs.org 访问 Google 网站；

2、使用自动代理服务，即 “proxy.pac” 链接，例如:

3、在 hosts 文件里面添加被墙网站的 IPv6 地址。其中 Windows 用户可以在以下路径找到该文件：

以上所提到的工具都是用来直接突破网络封锁的，除此之外，你也可以通过以下 3 种方法间接翻墙：

如果某个被墙的网站有被 Google 搜录，那么你就可以通过 Google 搜索结果的网页缓存查看该网站。

SECCON 2017 Online

12/9-10の24時間、SECCONオンライン予選がありました。海外勢も含め計1028チームが参加していたようです。結果は53位でした。国内チームのなかでは12位なので、2月に開催される国内決勝大会へ進めそうです。

問題文はつぎのとおり。

SHA1衝突が発生する2つのファイルを作成するようです。 SHA1といえば、ハッシュ衝突するファイルが実際に生成されたと話題になった件ですね。

SHA1が衝突するファイルは既にあるので、あとはファイルサイズの条件を満たせばOK。ハッシュ値計算の仕組みから、ハッシュ値が同じ2つのファイルに同じデータを追記した場合、追記後のファイルのハッシュは再び一致するはず。上記サイトから衝突が発生した2つのPDFファイルをダウンロードします。

Windowsのデフォルトだとスクリプト実行がポリシーで制限されている。まずはスクリプトを実行可能にするために、PowerShellを管理者権限で起動して以下のコマンドを実行する。

スクリプト実行するとSECCONの画像が表示されるが何かのチェックで終了している模様。

難読化されているといっても所詮はスクリプトなので最後のほうでeval的なことをしているのではと思う。それらしいところを探して、デコードされて読みやすくなった状態のコード(があるはずと想定して)を出力してみる。

最後の行を変更してファイル出力

再度実行すると、デコードされたスクリプトが得られる。ちなみにこのスクリプト、デバッガによる実行を検知すると終了するようになっている。

といってもまだ難読化されているのだが。シンタックスエラーがあるので改行コードを若干修正すると実行できる。また、処理中に実行環境のチェックをしているのでその部分をスキップして実行するとピアノの鍵盤が。実際に音もなるらしい？(自分の環境ではうまくならなかった)

処理の後半では、正しいキー入力(ピアノ演奏)を基に生成した鍵を使って、XORでデータ復号している��

キーストローク入力を照合しているコード部分を読んで鍵を特定する。

ファイルが壊れていると言っているので、修復すればflagが表示されるということでしょう。

JPEG修復してくれるというツールを適当に探してきて実行しただけ。怪しげなツールだと困るので、ツール実行前にスナップショットをとっておいて後で戻しておきました。こういう時に仮想マシンは便利です。

這是我第一次參加King of the Hill類型的CTF 算是一個很特別經驗因此把過程寫成這篇分享給對CTF有興趣的朋友

King of the Hill 介紹

CTF(Capture the Flag)分成三種類型

Jeopardy 是大家最熟悉的解題拿Flag 拿到Flag送出就可以得到分數

Attack and Defense 每個隊伍都有屬於自己的服務主機因此除了要攻擊對方的主機之外還需要修補自己的程式漏洞防止被攻擊如果成功攻擊攻擊者會加分被攻擊者會扣分

King of the Hill 主辦方提供多台主機參賽隊伍同時去攻擊這些主機攻進主機後在首頁放上隊伍的Flag就會開始計分計分的方式為每分鐘計分一次如果隊伍有佔領主機就會加分因此佔領越多主機佔領時間越久累積的分數也就越高

這次的比賽題目幾乎都是已經公開的漏洞因使對於程式能力需求也比較低不太需要逆向工程或是原始碼審查而需要大量的工具去嗅探主機潛藏的漏洞

如果說找0day是用邏輯挖掘那麼找已知漏洞就是用資訊挖掘了！因此如何利用工具挖掘漏洞就是一個重點不只要挖得到還要挖得快

工具介紹

以下會介紹我們隊伍有使用到的工具

Kali Linux

這是一個Linux的OS 專門用來做滲透測試裡面內建了許多工具 (下面沒有特別提到的工具就是內建)

offensive-security有提供VM版本可以快速架設起來在設定VM時網路建議選擇Bridge 這樣可以直接與比賽的內網相連這樣在建立反彈shell的時候會簡單很多

但也因此建議把預設密碼及以及防火牆打開雖然比賽有VLAN切開各隊伍的網路也有規定不能對對手攻擊但防人之心不可無主機如果反過來攻擊我們可就糟了

Zenmap

Zenmap是nmap的GUI版

GUI版不用記指令快速上手主要的功能為掃描電腦端口可以快速地知道目標主機可能存在哪些服務

OpenVAS

最新版本的VM沒有內建安裝需要非常久的時間在安裝過程會產生admin密碼記得要複製起來方便之後更改

這是一套非常強大的弱點掃描工具也是我們隊伍得分最大關鍵他可以透過行為來分析目標主機可以獲得相關資訊或是可能存在的漏洞

Metasploit

這是一個漏洞利用framework工具當我們知道目標可能存在漏洞我們可以利用對應的模組透過Metasploit去進行驗證或是攻擊

Sparta

是一個滲透工具組合包但我們主要是拿來進行暴力破解

比賽過程&題目

這次的比賽有100台機器 20種類型每個類型5台 (這在比賽中才慢慢發現)

比賽一開始我們就用zenmap 對所有目標IP進行"快速"掃描掃描到的資訊

開啟OpenVAS一樣進行全盤掃描但OpenVAS需要花的時間非常多第一天比賽結束前都還沒掃完

我們的策略是在攻進主機後利用iptable把所有的port關掉只留下80port來計分

上面的作法可能只適用於這次的比賽很多的大型比賽會檢查服務的可用性所以攻進去之後需要去修補漏洞並且更新程式如果服務沒有正常運作分數也就不會計算但這次比賽沒有這樣的規則因此關掉服務不是一個好方法但卻很有用XD

有解出來的題目

Kali

這一題完全就是意外在開賽不到10分鐘就讓我們隊伍破蛋

我發現一台主機只開了22port 對於ssh沒有太大的印象有新漏洞因此直接嘗試了手動猜密碼 (這是壞習慣應該要開工具破的XD) 結果一下就猜到了root:toor 發現是一台kali主機沒有更改預設密碼

第一時間進去先改密碼望向記分板才想到要寫辨識碼到網頁才會計分 kali主機內建apache 因此只要執行

service apache2 start echo '$our_flag' > /var/www/html/index.html

就這樣拿到了一台主機

另外兩台是透過OpenVAS找到的掃描結果如下

RDP

RDP(Remote Desktop Protocol) 通常用來遠端桌面操控Windows系統

這一題首頁上就給了

rdp:user/123456

登入後一樣先改密碼但發現使用者的權限不足沒辦法修改網頁的內容可以得知這是一個Windows提權題目

系統是Win7 SP1 我們嘗試了幾個不同的payload 最後我們使用CVE-2016-0051成功提權之後只要進去xampp的目錄下更改index.html成我們的flag就可以了

VNC

VNC(Virtual Network Computing) 通常用來遠端桌面操控Linux系統

這一題是OpenVAS掃到的掃描結果如下

可以看到一樣是弱密碼的問題我們登進去發現其實有其他隊伍已經進來過了但他們沒有做正確的防守動作 (vnc的認證如果不是經由ssh 更改使用者密碼是沒用的)

因此我們換掉首頁後用iptable把服務關掉用同樣的方式刷了四台主機但沒想到過了一會兒只剩下三台最後心得那邊會提到這個失誤的狀況

PHPMoAdmin

PHPMoAdmin是一個由PHP構成用來管理MongoDB的工具

一樣是由OpenVAS掃到的掃描結果如下

可以看到這是CVE-2015-2208任意代碼執行的漏洞

Metasploit有exploit可以直接用這裡示範一下大概要怎麼使用Metasploit

拿到了shell原本以為結束了但沒想到才剛開始真正的難題進去之後發現權限不足才知道這一題還需要提權

提權首先要先了解系統版本我印象中是Ubuntu14.04 內核版本4.4.0-53 用searchsploit查找相關的提權方式

沒想到全部都沒有用... 最後嘗試之前通殺Linux的Dirty COW(CVE-2016-5195) 第一台主機成功佔據5秒主機就crash了...... 我們用了四個不同的exploit嘗試了另外4台每個的最終結果都是crash.....

原本要衝一波高分的沒想到獵物全部都變成了垃圾主機(別人也攻不破) 回來研究才發現要選擇寫入/etc/passwd 在getroot的方式是最穩定的例如這個exploit 但沒有嘗試過也不曉得會不會成功這個題型沒拿下來真的是我們隊伍的一大損失

沒解出來的題目

很多主機其實有看到漏洞但因為其他隊伍已經攻佔了很多都是推測跟想法還有跟其他隊伍賽後的討論

XVWA

XVWA(Xtreme Vulnerable Web Application) 是一個用來練習Web Hacking的框架可以在Github找到源碼

我們用了"OS Command Injection"打了進去但權限不足嘗試提權看看版本是Ubuntu 16.04 內核4.4.0-75都是最新的...

賽後討論沒有一支隊伍可以提權成功可能有其他的洞或是有其他提權方式 ~~但大家都覺得這是在釣0day~~

HFS

HFS(HTTP File Server) 用HTTP來管理遠端檔案系統

SMB-MS17

SMB(Server Message Block) 主要功能是使網路上的機器能夠共享資源

首頁上面寫了Windows 3.1 聽到最酷的解法是暴力解出FTP Administrator密碼正常解法應該用user帳號暴力就可以登入總而言之都是弱密碼XD

心得

分析方面

賽後發現用zenmap掃描所有目標是不太好的掃描全部的port浪費太多的時間應該針對有特定弱點的port先找出來分析 ex:21(ftp),445(smb),8080(hfs)...等等

防守方面

其中一台原本在我們手上的機器我們在打進去後換了首頁就用iptable鎖死了沒想到其實這台主機已經被別人藏了web後門這台主機就這樣被別人搶了回去...QQ 因此以後記得要檢查web後門然後也要自己藏web後門再利用iptable鎖上

技巧方面

雖然有記分板可以看到哪些隊伍佔據了哪些主機但記分板上沒有ip位置因此我們浪費很多時間在詢問主機的存活如果設計一個monitor來監看這些主機的狀態一定能大大的幫助我們找尋下一個攻擊目標

另外這次還有非常多時間浪費在打指令上如果能加強shellscript相關技能這次的比賽一定能更輕鬆

總結

這次的題目有相當多的弱密碼相信這是想告訴我們弱密碼其實比我們想的還嚴重除此之外很多已知漏洞都還存在現實中漏洞不會自己消失因此系統更新很重要

WhatsApp to industrial automation end support for these platforms soon: Here’s the fulllist

WhatsApp will end support for certain Android and iOS devices. The Facebook-owned company said in a blog post that it is ending support for older operating systems, such as Nokia Symbian S60, and more. WhatsApp users on older OS will not be able to access their accounts or create a new one. Do note that users will not have the option of migrating their chat history between platforms. Instead, they will need industrial wireless to send chat history attached to an email.

WhatsApp will stop working on operating systems including, Android versions older than 2.3.3. People will not be able to create new WhatsApp accounts. The app will not be supported on devices running Android 2.1 (Eclair) and Android 2.2 (Froyo). In addition, WhatsApp will also pull support for Windows Phone 8.0 and older, iPhone 3GS/iOS 6 as well as Nokia Symbian S60.

WhatsApp is also ending support for BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10. It is not surprising since BlackBerry itself has confirmed it will no longer be manufacturing or launching new smartphones, and the BlackBerry 10, BlackBerry OS have been abandoned. Instead new BlackBerry-branded phones are now manufactured by China-based TCL and powered by Android OS.

WhastApp has said the company will no longer actively develop for certain older OS systems and some features might stop functioning at any time. However, Nokia S40 will continue to support WhatsApp until December 31, 2018. On devices running Android versions 2.3.7 and older, the app will work until Febrary 1, 2020. Apple iOS 7 and older versions will also support WhatsApp until February 1, 2020.

WhatsApp users on older operating system are recommended to upgrade to newer Android devices running OS 4.0 or higher, iPhone running iOS 8 or higher as well as Windows Phone 8.1 or higher. “Once you have one of these devices, simply install WhatsApp and verify your phone number on the new device. Keep in mind th Industrial LTE router at WhatsApp can only be activated with one phone number on one device at a time,” WhatsApp sa industrial iot id in a blog post.
