Been getting super into wood burning lately!! These are the samples I've been working on to get a feel for the different tips.

Each tile exclusively demonstrates the respective tip; each number represents a different heat level + stroke. On the back of each tile is a drawing I did to see what each tip could do on its own! Wanna note that I traced everything here since I just wanted to jump in and test the pens, but I did my best to credit the originals. Most of the tips are at least decent at both line art & shading, but obviously they each play to their intended strength. It was fun thinking of good references for the two shading tips since (if the lettering was any indication) refined line art was gonna be out of the question, but I am rly happy with how it all turned out. Wood burning feels a lot like water coloring but you use heat instead.

Once these were done, I wanted to test finishes and was was like "Hmmm what four simple images can I use that won't be just four of the same thing, have decent detail while remaining simple, and would be at least somewhat thematic? Guess I'll figure it out later." Then ofc as I was taking a shower I remembered the CANONICAL FOUR:

Sadly I don't have polycrylic at the moment even tho I deliberately went to the store to get some, had it in hand, but then didn't buy it for some reason???

Anyway maybe it's for the best cuz I think it looks a LOT better without any kind of finish since they all have a slight tone to it that messes with the shading I do in the moment. Might just leave them unfinished tbh

anyway this hobby is rly fun and if u like water coloring but want to add the thrilling danger of fire, i highly recommend it

Random Eddie and Volt drawings that I made on stream yesterday. I really need to get better at drawing Eddie's 5 o'clock shadow, but I'm really proud of how Volt came out in my style!

Eventually I'm gonna design my homeowner character and bonk her with these two autism style (make the breaker box guys be on the receiving end of infodumping)

Song Review: Sierra Hull - “Come out of My Blues” (Live, 2023)

I think I’m beginning to come out of my blues

So sings Sierra Hull on “Come out of My Blues.” But she’s lying. Because Hull had clearly shed all melancholia by the time she performed the uptempo bluegrass number with her band at the 2023 Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival.

Just released on professional video, the performance finds the song fully formed some two years before it was released in 2025 on A Tip Toe High Wire. It also finds Hull smiling at her bandmates, bobbing her head to the music, cuing and appreciating the fiddle solo that follows her mandolin showcase, giving wordless props to the drummer and pointing to the audience to emphasize her returning good humor.

What it also shows is an electrifying live performer with an incredible band. Anyone who’s seen Hull live understands this is how she does it every single time.

Rn if I could make f1 drivers do any challenge, I'd make them play pool against each other's teammates. It is the ultimate rich boy sport! It's so addictive but infuriating. I just want to watch them slowly devolve into cheating and raging against each other when the other person makes an insane unbelievable shot. It says a lot about a person how they react when the other person wins dhfjkg at the last moment ....

Song Review: Sierra Hull - “Spitfire”

Sierra Hull really embraces her inner Alison Krauss on “Spitfire.”

Not just in the voice, which has always shown a resemblance to the singing angel, but also in the sparse, Dobro-dominated arrangement, which recalls Union Station while being entirely its own thing.

The song is an ode to Hull’s grandmother - She’s in my blood, Hull sings - and tells the story of woman who went from 18-year-old widow to elderly matriarch with one kidney. As single No. 3 from A Tip Toe High Wire, it also gives the LP its title.

She’s a spitfire, spitfire/queen of a tip toe high wire/no, you really can’t blame her/that nobody can tame her/she’s a spitfire

Everyone should have a song written for them. Getting a song like “Spitfire” is a particularly high honor.
