Happy 104th birthday to my dearest Peggy Carter! ❤️
For her birthday I have curated what I think her SHIELD file actually looks like, her timeline during the war, and some other things.
It all started because I watched a deleted scene from The Avengers where Steve is looking at some files, and we can see Peggy’s file, which is completely wrong and full of inconsistencies. Thank God it stayed in the deleted scene.

Before starting, this is information I gathered on my own, they are my headcanons, if you don’t agree that’s perfectly fine, just be respectful. If you want to share your opinion feel free to do so! Now, let’s get started.
Margaret Elizabeth Carter was born on April 9, 1921 in Hampstead, England. Daughter of Harrison and Amanda Carter, she also had an older brother, Michael, who was four years older than her. She attended Parliament Hill School from 1928 to 1936, obtaining her school certificate at the age of 15. Despite her wanting to attend college, she was not allowed due to her parents' belief that it was not lady-like. However, in 1937 she managed to join the Princess Mary's Royal Air Force Nursing Service (PMRAFNS) by lying about her age, saying she had been born in 1919, making her 18.
She worked and trained there as a Staff Nurse (it looks like all nursing staff had officer ranks but this one was the lowest, and it didn't have an equivalent in the RAF). In June of 1939 the Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) was created, she took the opportunity and transferred there. Her superiors realized she was rather good at math and languages so when operations started in Bletchley Park in 1940 she was sent there. While in the WAAF she was an Officer Cadet, as she was undergoing officer training, but this is not an actual rank. In Bletchley Park she worked as a code breaker and wireless operator.
Upon her brother's death in August of the same year, she joined the SOE which at the time was controlled by the Secret Intelligence Service aka Mi6, she trained there for the reminder of the year (4 months of training). She was parachuted into France in 1941 as a courier. She was a master at evasion and good at turning anything and everything into a weapon. After her mission was completed she was summoned to Cairo. There she stopped working for the SOE (but continued working in the MI6) and was transferred to the ATS obtaining a promotion to Second Subaltern. She was assigned to be the liaison between GHQ (General Headquarters in Cairo) and the newly formed Special Air Service (SAS). She provided them with intelligence and basic medical care, after a while she began going into missions with them.
She participated in the Battle of El Alamein where she was wounded by a gunshot to the shoulder. As women were not allowed to fight in active combat she was given orders to go home but Colonel Phillips recruited her to work for the SSR. In early 1943 she was sent on a mission to Germany to rescue Dr Erskine. In the US, the idea for Project Rebirth was born. Steve Rogers was recruited on May 5, 1943.
Because her rank is equivalent to that of a Second Lieutenant, she was in charge of a platoon (18-50 men), composed of three or more squads (6-12 men). Second Lieutenants are addressed as sir or ma'am, but because she worked with the SSR she was addressed as Agent. Steve received the serum on June 22, 1943, and was sent on tour to sell war bonds. She went back to Europe. They meet again in November 1943 when Steve rescues the 107th and forms the Howling Commandos. She worked all over Europe with and without the Howling Commandos, and also helped coordinate the operations of the SAS in Europe. In total she "... spent three years in the mud of the European theater. Eastern Front, Western Front, and everything in between." (Agent Carter s1e5).
At some point after the Commando Order was issued by Hitler in October of 1942, she was captured and almost executed by hanging, but she managed to escape.
At the end of the war in 1945 she was discharged from both the ATS and the MI6 but kept on the SSR, so she immigrated to the US. She was promoted from agent to Lieutenant after taking down Dr Johann Fennhoff. When the SSR began dissolving in 1949 she was recruited by Howard Stark and Colonel Phillips to direct SHIELD. Her role was Deputy Director until after 1955 because they do not address to her as the Director of SHIELD in AoS but they do say "she outranks us" (s7e3). She retired after 1989 but before 1995.
About her uniform; she wore a green uniform but it didn't match that of the ATS or FANY. It started as a regular ATS uniform, but being in the SAS gave her the opportunity to modify her uniform because it was a newly created detachment/regiment.
ATS uniform on the left, FANY on the right.

Peggy in uniform and battle dress. It could have been more historically accurate but who cares. (They took too many artistic liberties with her uniform)

I think she never wore the WAAF uniform which was blue because she was barely there like 4 months, she spent more time in the nurse's uniform.
Now! Military honors and awards. It took her some time to get recognition for her accomplishments but in total she has six military awards: the 1939-1945 star, the Africa star, the France and Germany star, the war medal, the Croix de Guerre, and the Medal of freedom.
She was a Dame Grand Cross of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (GBE), and also had one of these cute parachutists badges, on the left is the one awarded to other SOE members, and on the right the one belonging to the SAS. I can’t decide which one though.
I feel like I'm missing something but that's all I have for the moment, I hope you guys enjoy!

Coffee Tap
Congressman!Bucky Barnes x Congresswoman!Reader
Summary: You and Bucky check out the funky new coffee machine in the shared kitchenette
Warnings/ tags: fluff
Word Count: 448
A/N: welcome to the classified files! this is where all those scenes that ended up getting culled during last rounds of editing live on (because we shan't waste words in this economy!)
ps: this was supposed to the opening for FTR ch2!
off the record masterpost || AO3 || congressman bucky masterpost
It starts with coffee on the Rayburn House’s third floor common kitchenette.
More specifically, with the brand new ‘Coffee Tap’ that someone’s magically found the budget for. It had just been installed – the admin email announcing its operational status is still at the top of your inbox – and you’re just here to gawk at the new spectacle.
It is what it says on the tin – a tap, a faucet really – that sprouts out of the granite countertop and promises ‘barista-style brews on tap’. A wireless tablet with the menu sits innocently next to it, and you can’t see where the coffee grinder, the milk jar, or even where the rest of the machinery is.
As you approach it with great distrust, you find that Bucky Barnes is already there, staring at it with so much weariness, like it’s about to explode in his face.
“This feels wrong,” he says, eyeing the drink in his cup with suspicion.
You glance side sideways as you place your up under the faucet head and make the safest selection – a whole milk latte. The thing doesn’t splutter to life like every other coffee machine that you’ve used before, but you suppose, somehow, somewhere, it’s making your order as liquid begins appearing in your mug. “You mean the machine or the concept?”
“The whole thing,” he replies. “Coffee’s supposed to be earned. Ground, at the very least. Not summoned like beer from a keg.”
You hum in agreement. “My suite still has a Nespresso. Derek’s minimum standard for caffeine is a pod.”
Bucky lifts his cup, sniffs it, and grimaces. “Smells like battery acid.”
You grin, putting your cup to your lips. “And isn’t that the point?”
Objectively, the taste isn’t terrible but seeing (or not seeing) how it’s made does not inspire much confidence in its quality. At the very least, it needs some sugar.
The both of you must have had the same idea, and your hands both reach for sugar packets at the same time. Your fingers brush – just briefly – over his flesh hand. It’s nothing, a proximity-based mishap.
But it catches.
You both pause, and then, just as you start to pull back, he says, light and easy, “careful. Keep that up and people might start thinking we get along.”
The smile he gives you is crooked, harmless on the surface. But his voice dips slightly at the end, like the idea isn’t entirely a joke.
You say nothing and tuck a sugar packet into your palm and step back. “See you at the hearing,” you mutter, beating your retreat before either of you could make it any worse than it is.

Can we talk about just how bizarre it is that DBH androids ever pull back their skin layer to interact with things? Like the whole world has made massive wireless advancements, it's the Everything Is WiFi Future, and Connor can apparently literally connect to and hack a supposedly secure, closed video feed in a hyper-sophisticated tech company's building by fucking squinting at it, but for some reason he needs to pull back his skin and physically slap the electronic doors in the DPD to send the "open" signal? Markus can wirelessly send deviancy codes to androids in the street but he needs to hold North's hand to share some memory files? I'm sure the real-world explanation from the writers is "this will remind people the robots are robots by showing their robot bodies" but, like, the internal logic is just…not there.

Random Cog Headcanons: Memories
I'm back again with a slightly shorter yap than the last one, this time focusing on how suits process and store memories! Tried to go for the bullet point format again since my last post was pretty dense. Summary: Suits have different kinds of memories, with the two main kinds being consolidated and unconsolidated. Both serve different purposes and function in different ways, allowing suits to balance the preservation of disk space with the preservation of detailed memories deemed to be the most important.
The memories of suits are all contained in memory chips connected to a memory processor that interprets, sorts, and consolidates memories. ⠀
>> Damage to the former can result in loss of current memories, while damage to the latter can cause impairments forming new memories. ㅤ
Memories are immediately processed in a 1:1 visual form, but are quickly stripped down to the essentials and encrypted for the sake of both data security and saving valuable disk/memory space. This process is known as memory consolidation. ⠀
Due to this process, cogs often cannot 'replay' moments in their minds, especially if they're mundane. They may intuitively know what happened, when it happened, how it happened, how it made them feel, etc., but it's not like they're mentally seeing it. ⠀ㅤ
That being said, if a moment is really important to a suit, they can consciously choose to record memories and keep them in their original form. It's a sacrifice of space, but if it's something they really want to remember and be able to play back with every present detail, it might be worth it. Real wholesome potential for that, honestly. Though there's painful potential there, too. ⠀ㅤ
>> For example, some may choose to save precious moments from their wedding day, while others can’t stop mulling over a nasty breakup, unable to decide if they should just consolidate those old memories for their own good. Video evidence of workplace misconduct always makes reports stronger, too, so there’s that. ㅤ
>> Given that any process can be subject to malfunction, it may be possible under some circumstances for a memory to be unable to be consolidated by no fault of the suit themselves. This could, in theory, result in PTSD-like flashbacks when the memory is triggered (though that doesn’t mean consolidated memories cannot also be traumatic). ㅤ
Memories that have not been encrypted and consolidated can be accessed and shared between suits if desired. Typically, they are just transferred to an external device and projected in a video format, as one would a normal file. ⠀
Emotional data in unconsolidated memories is ignored when processed by normal machines, such as an office computer or projector, but can be experienced by another directly if two suits link up. ⠀ㅤ
The process of linking up is quite literal, being a wired or wireless connection established between two or more suits. Wired is most common, though some fancier suits may have some equivalent to Bluetooth. ㅤ
Because all memories start out as unconsolidated and unencrypted, it’s possible to feel another’s emotions or experiences in real time through linking up as well if that happens to be the goal. ㅤ
Linking up is considered to be very intimate, but typically non-sexual. It can occur among trusted friends or family in addition to partners. ㅤ
Linking up will not work if one or more parties does not want to participate. It is by definition two or more machines communicating with one another, with information requests going back and forth that can be easily denied at any time. ㅤ
Memory chips are physical, and are therefore subject to degradation and/or reorganization over time. Consolidated memories may lose some factual details or end up purged for space if deemed unimportant, while unconsolidated memories that are exceptionally old may begin to have a decrease in clarity or become a bit fuzzy, as if recorded on an old camera.

Viruses so far have been really disappointing on the 'disable the internet' front, and time is running out. When Linux/Mac win in a decade or so the game will be over.
Network [Explained]
Transcript Under the Cut
[Megan looking at a large screen with many green and red squares. The squares have writing in them and lines connecting them.]
[Side view. The screen is a huge LCD connected to a wireless router.] Cueball: Pretty, isn't it? Megan: What is it?
Cueball: I've got a bunch of virtual Windows machines networked together, hooked up to an incoming pipe from the net. They execute email attachments, share files, and have no security patches. Cueball: Between them they have practically every virus.
Cueball: There are mail trojans, warhol worms, and all sorts of exotic polymorphics. A monitoring system adds and wipes machines at random. The display shows the viruses as they move through the network. Growing and struggling.
[Cueball walks past the girl and touches the monitor.] Megan: You know, normal people just have aquariums. Cueball: Good morning, Blaster. Are you and W32.Welchia getting along? Cueball: Who's a good virus? You are! Yes, you are!

When We Silence The Music, We All Lose
Recently, I came across an instrument company called AeroBand that makes wireless MIDI ‘air drums’ with a sort of haptic feedback response, marketed as ‘silent’ drums, and the concept stuck with me for a while. The purpose of these ‘drums’ would be fairly obvious to anyone who has ever lived in shared or rented accommodation: keep the noise down, be a good neighbour! But it also signals a bigger problem with vanishing musical and communal ‘third’ spaces where loud music, loud kids and activity can exist, and the music in turn gets quieter and more invisible until you can’t hear what it is saying anymore.
We have gone from drum kits to electronic pads and deadened practice kits for the domestic drummer, to eventually having people in rented accommodation being so worried about noise complaints that they’ve had to create drum-less drums. No drummer prefers these, they are simply a way of protecting yourself from eviction. Living in matchbox houses with paper thin walls made of cheap and in-no-way soundproof material, packed so close you’re a stone’s throw from your neighbours, we’ve silenced the drumkit entirely.
Is it any surprise then that people are not forming bands in the numbers they used to 30 years ago? Is it a surprise that we moved from bands rehearsing in basements and garages in their houses, to samples, electronic kits, MIDI, solo ‘bedroom’ stuff; even as we lose more and more rehearsal spaces, and schools stop offering kids musical lessons because they must be inferior to subjects that lead to a job in IT or finance? We lose youth centres, community spaces, musical spaces, and everyone’s world gets a little quieter.
Gentrification. People move into the ‘fun’ parts of town and then file complaints against the very things that make an area ‘fun’ in the first place: music, noises, lights, life, later evening events and establishments. A residential permit accidentally granted to a builder in downtown Montreal’s vibrant entertainment and culture district and the subsequent noise complaints from residents who knowingly moved in next to an old, culturally significant music theatre, have recently led to the shutting of the 130-year old La Tulipe. Kingston, Ontario’s BLU Martini, a beautiful 400-capacity bar and music venue located right on the downtown waterfront, shut its doors this September after 41 years of playing an important role in the city’s homegrown music scene, ten in its final location. With no one else wanting to pick up the mantle, the space’s next inhabitants will be Chuck’s Roadhouse Bar and Grill, who aren’t particularly interested in ensuring the space continues to host emerging live musical talent. Cardiff grassroots venue The Moon, known for launching the careers of many of the UK’s best emerging musicians, closed its doors last month.

Tiny Horse (left) and The Wilderness (right) at Kingston's BLU Martini in 2024.
Elsewhere, city councils are so afraid of the word ‘rave’, they aren’t fully sure what it means but think it means ‘illicit drugs-taking event’ and want to ban any instance of it. The raves move out of the city, to obscure, remote locations, or abandon the city altogether. The city loses another piece of its existing culture.
Sometimes we stop the music right at the source: The Rehearsal Factory, a notable rehearsal space with spots all over Toronto, has dwindled down to 2 or 3 locations over the last 20 years, with their notable Richmond St. branch being sold off to a controversial Australian megachurch. Roswell Rehearsals lost its space in Kingston two years ago due to noise complaints, and its absence was sorely felt by the city’s many young, renting musicians who felt caught out by the lack of a dedicated musical space. Fearing hefty fines, potential police action and even eviction if they tried to practise indoors, the warm welcome it received on reopening its doors this October was evidence of how much it was needed in the local music community. As more and more artists live in rented or shared accommodations where practising out loud simply isn’t practical, the loss of rehearsal spaces within reasonable commuting distance is effectively the death of emerging music: it either is forced to spread itself thin hours outside of towns and cities, the congregation sites of culture and events, or it dies altogether, leaving the cultural fabric of the whole nation weaker and less colourful.
I wanted to take a walking tour of historically important music sites in London when I visited. As one of the music capitals of the world, London, and the UK by extension, have been responsible for a large amount of global popular culture: with an annual music export worth £2.5 billion in 2021, they are one of only 3 countries that exports more music than it imports, and the second-largest exporter overall.
The inner city of London alone has had many important venues, clubs, studios— the Blitz, where the New Romantic kids first congregated for their David Bowie nights in the 1980s, The 2i’s Coffee Bar, where many stars of the 1960s were discovered, including Cliff Richards, Tommy Steel, Francis Bacon and much of the skiffle movement, are just two examples.
New Romantic kids at the Blitz in Soho, London in the 1980s.
Neither exists anymore. Three-fourths of the planned London music tour involved looking for ghosts: empty spaces, corporate offices and residence buildings sitting on the burial grounds of moments of cultural significance. I didn’t end up doing the tour, I didn’t think I could bear to look at these places, to try and imagine what they once were and what their downfall means for the health of the modern music scene.
The London-based neo-jazz group Ezra Collective formed in 2012 as teenagers in a youth club: they were in the Tomorrow’s Warriors youth band, a music education initiative at the South Bank Centre in London. Eleven years later, they shone as the first-ever jazz winners of the prestigious Mercury Music Prize for their 2023 album, Where I’m Meant To Be, signalling a shift in how their musical movement blending traditional jazz with RnB, soul, electronic, alternative, Afrobeats and hip hop, has been steadily gaining legitimacy as a uniquely British sound, even within the traditional circles of jazz study where it was once treated as mongrel.
In his acceptance speech at the Mercuries, Ezra Collective percussionist Femi Koleoso took time to celebrate their youth club beginnings, praising the ‘good, special people putting time and effort into [helping] young people to play music’. Much has been made of the benefits music has for young people: everything from developing brains to keeping kids off the street, giving them a sense of community and purpose; something to look forward to and love. Ezra Collective are proof of just how far providing young people with musical spaces can go.
youtube
Sure, sites pop up and go down all the time, often shining brightly for a short period of time. That is part and parcel of being in the ideas- and coffee (alcohol?)-driven, volatile, passion-fuelled and chronically underfunded art scene that music is. But when over the years, we are left with less and less: fewer spaces, stricter laws, higher costs, less funding, decreasing importance given to the role musicians play in society, and ultimately fewer venues to play, fewer musicians, and certainly fewer of the vital working class voices that so often hold a mirror to our society, as music becomes the reserve of the rich, there is no doubting that its strength and conviction will dilute without conscious intervention.
It’s the same with the Bluetooth drums. I know the makers only want to do good, bless them for trying, and I don’t doubt a lot of people will find this a better practice solution than drawing MIDI notes on a quantized grid, because it still feels a little like playing live, albeit hitting the air with vibrating haptic feedback. It’ll be AR or VR drums next, inevitably. I’m aware of the passage of time and I don’t wish it ill.
What saddens me is that we lose so much of the spirit of art and culture to this dilution. The music getting quieter as to not offend the neighbours, even as musicians get slowly choked out of gentrified spaces. Writers being unable (or less freely able) to explore darker themes so as to not set the dogs of the ‘problematic writing’ police on them. Artists presenting as less dramatic so as to not appear ‘weird’ to an uninvested audience; TikTok’s adherence to a straitjacketed definition of correctly performed ‘authenticity’. Making fun of anyone who dares to dress weird, look different, say something new. You see it everywhere. Art gets diluted to become palatable with ever-diminishing returns, and in doing so it loses its ability to express itself and say something that needs to be said.
I don’t know. Some could look at it as the weird, twisted, fucked up plant growing through cracks in the pavement, doing what it can to reach the sunlight. Art surviving despite everything; changing, evolving, and somehow being more poignant and posing a stronger message as a result.
But even a 22h everlasting candle has an end. We’ve got to do more to protect our artistic spaces and outlets, and the ability to create without fear, or we risk losing them forever. It takes just one generation to train out habits; we see it with other obsolete things, let’s not let art be one of those.
Read on Sounds Live Magazine.

Well, McGee (Sean Murray) just learned he’s definitely right to be suspicious of Laroche (Seamus Dever). The realization comes after the agent saves the deputy director’s life from a hitman in the latest NCIS episode.
To McGee’s confusion, his wife Delilah (Margo Harshman) gets off the elevator at NCIS with Laroche and are seemingly getting along. (She calls him Gabe.) She thinks he’s nice, but McGee protests, showing a mint (Laroche’s brand) he found under his desk, an indication, as he sees it, that he’s been spying on him. And this isn’t about losing out on the job to him, he insists, but rather about him hiding things from the team and playing politics with cases.
After an anonymous tip, the team arrests and interrogates a hitman known as The Poet, only for him to die by suicide via capsules he had embedded in his arms. Laroche then gets involved in the case … and surprises McGee by asking about any dietary restrictions because it turns out that he and Delilah planned a dinner with their spouses (her idea). McGee, of course, tries to find excuses (including needing a babysitter and to work), but Vance (Rocky Carroll) sees it as a good time to exchange updates about the case.

Michael Yarish / CBS
Meanwhile, Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) goes undercover as The Poet to try to find out from the broker, Gemma, who hired him for his recent targets. The broker is a jeweler in the diamond district, and one of her clients is Parker’s (Gary Cole) nemesis, Kansas City mob boss Carla Marino. So, of course, he thinks she’s involved. But why would she order a hit on two naval officers and be interested in the nuclear fuel on the Atlas train? Well, it does run through her area. Parker’s ready to fly out to arrest her the moment there’s any evidence.
While the rest of the team finds the broker gone, the security guard at the jeweler’s dead, and a safe in the floor, McGee and Delilah sit down for dinner with Laroche and his wife, Tammy (Brooke Lyons), who talks about the advances made in biocompatible devices: They use AI to decode a brain’s messages and bypass spinal compression using a wireless implant. As Laroche puts it, she’ll have patients tap dancing by 2030, but he wonders, does the world need more tap dancers? That’s a sore subject for McGee, who tap dances. Laroche does, too, he shares — political tap dance, that is, which is what he calls what he does: To get what you want in this town, sometimes you have to tell one person one thing and another the complete opposite. To McGee, that sounds like lying. Laroche remarks the job isn’t for everyone.
Unfortunately for McGee, he can’t even escape: per photos in the safe, Laroche is the next target. Laroche, however, refuses to go back to NCIS for protection since the hitman’s dead. He also doesn’t want to scare his wife unnecessarily. But why is he being targeted? This is when the rest of the team begins to think McGee was right about him all along. It turns out that he was on the top secret board of directors for the Atlas train’s security protocols — and the drills to simulate a disaster scenario were run near Kansas City.
Thanks to Delilah giving him a good excuse — she pours raspberry sauce on his pants so he has to go clean it up in the bathroom — McGee sneaks into Laroche’s office. The deputy director catches him, just after he’s found a file on himself, with his phone and bank records. Laroche says he’s just keeping tabs on him since McGee is doing the same to him. McGee accuses him of being the mole back when Torres was undercover with Nexus, but Laroche seems genuinely surprised. As for why he kept his connection to Atlas secret, he says he couldn’t even tell Vance — and accuses McGee of being a sore loser. (Ouch.)
The team catches Gemma trying to flee the country, and she reveals that she knew the client was trying to clean house when she found her guard dead. There’s another hitman out there to eliminate all loose ends — including outstanding targets, like Laroche. She also insists that Carla isn’t the client. Rather, it’s someone not from Kansas City, and he had a tattoo.
With that, McGee’s in charge of Laroche’s protection (if he hasn’t shot him himself yet, he’s showing remarkable restraint, Parker says), and they prepare to head to NCIS. Laroche struggles to open his gun safe (Tammy has to remind him of the code), but before the four of them can leave, there are shots fired outside. The hitman’s there and has killed the police. Delilah and Tammy hide in a room without windows, while McGee stays with Laroche, even after the deputy director tells him to go, too, since anyone he’s with is also in danger. This is also when he reveals that McGee was supposed to get the deputy director job, but then he sent SecNav a report advocating for a shakeup and criticizing NCIS for being too close-knit and acting more like a family than a federal agency. He knows now that’s not a bad thing. He also doesn’t think he can tap dance his way out of this until McGee comes up with a plan: He poses as the hitman and makes the new one think he’s shot and killed Laroche, until the team can arrest her. And so, Laroche has McGee and the Kevlar vest that Vance got him when he got the job to thank. He thought he’d been joking when he said he might need it some day, and McGee says he was just looking out for his family.
They still don’t know who wanted Laroche dead, however, with the new hitman not talking. But they do know whoever went to Gemma about it was part of the Nexus cartel by the tattoo. They’re back and planning something, and they don’t know how Carla is connected (but we do know that both are part of the finale).
McGee and Laroche have now cleared the air … just in time for the reveal that the tip about the hitman came from inside the government. Thanks to a program from Delilah, they have the name Nocturne — which McGee saw written, with numbers and letters, on a Post-it on a notebook in Laroche’s desk in his home office. And so when Laroche stops by to thank him again for saving his life, McGee shakes his hand, then leans in close to warn him he knows about Nocturne and is coming for him.

Computer Networks: Basics, Types, and Benefits Explained
Computer networks are a big part of today’s highly automated world. They connect people, systems, and devices, making communication and resource sharing effortless. Whether it’s examining the internet, collaborating on projects, or sharing files, computer networks play a vital role in both personal and professional environments. We’ll cover the basics of computer networks, discuss their different types, and see the benefits they deliver.

What is a Computer Network?
A computer network is basically a system where multiple devices are linked together to share resources and exchange data. These devices can include laptops, mobile phones, servers, and networking equipment like routers. Networks enable smooth communication and allow devices to work together efficiently, making everything from browsing the web to managing complex business operations much easier.
Types of Computer Networks
Personal Area Network (PAN):
Personal Area Networks are designed as small networks intended for individual purposes. They usually span a limited distance and link devices such as.
smartphones, laptops, and tablets. For instance, connecting your phone to your computer via Bluetooth forms a simple PAN.
Local Area Network (LAN):
LANs are commonly used in homes, schools, and offices to connect devices within a limited area. For example, to allow employees to share files and printers seamlessly, all the computers in an office might be connected to a LAN.
Wide Area Network (WAN):
A WAN stretches over a significantly larger territory, often connecting devices or LANs across cities, countries, or even continents. The internet is the most well-known example of a WAN, authorized global connectivity.
Metropolitan Area Network (MAN):
Sitting between LANs and WANs, a MAN is typically used to connect networks across a campus or city. Cable TV networks are a common example of a MAN.
Wireless Networks:
Wireless networks use technologies like Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to connect devices without cables. They’re widely used in offices, homes, and public places, offering convenience and mobility.
Key Components of Computer Networks
Devices (Nodes): Servers that interact within the network these include computers and smartphones.
Connections (Links): The physical or wireless pathways that transfer data between devices.
Protocols: These are the rules that control data transmission, such as TCP/IP, to maintain smooth communication.
Switches and Routers: Switches connect devices in a network, while routers link different networks together.

Benefits of Computer Networks
Resource Sharing:
Networks make things easy to share like files, printers, and software applications, reducing the need for duplicate resources.
Seamless Communication:
With instant messaging, email, and video calls, networks ensure quick and authentic communication, no matter how far away are you.
Cost Savings:
By collecting resources and data storage, networks cut down on operational costs, especially for businesses.
Anywhere Access:
Modern networks allow you to access data from any connected device, whether you are at home or on the go.
Scalability:
As your needs develop networks will grow too, by supporting more users and devices over time.
Increased Productivity:
It reduces delays in automated processes and real-time data sharing and streamlines workflows, boosting efficiency.
Why Computer Network Skills Are Crucial for Entry-Level Corporate Roles
For those starting their careers, knowledge of computer networks can be a significant asset:
Essential for Office Environments:
In today's world, most workplaces rely on LANs and WANs for everyday operations. Knowing how these networks function allows employees to balance basic connectivity issues, making sure work stays on track without interruptions.
Supports Collaboration Tools:
Corporate tools like Microsoft Teams, Slack, and cloud-based systems depend heavily on networks. Understanding their underlying principles helps entry-level employees adapt quickly to these platforms.
Enhances Problem-Solving Skills:
Entry-level employees with networking knowledge can help IT, teams, by identifying and resolving minor network problems, exhibiting their value early on.
Boosts Technical Proficiency:
Networking skills indicate a candidate’s technical potential, giving them a head start in industries where tech literacy is required.
Prepares for Future Roles:
As technology makes progress, advanced networking concepts like cybersecurity and IoT integration are becoming integral. Early experience with networks lays a strong beginning for growth in these areas.
Challenges of Computer Networks
Security Risks: Networks are at risk of threats like hacking and malware, requiring robust security measures.
Cost of Setup: High-quality network infrastructure can be costly to install and maintain.
Technical Complexity: Balancing and managing networks frequently need specialized skills.
Conclusion
Computer networks are essential in today’s globalized world. From pushing day-to-day operations in businesses to enabling global communication, their impact is wide-ranging. For aspiring professionals, having computer networking skills can provide a competitive advantage, especially in entry-level corporate roles where technical knowledge is highly valued. By understanding the basics of networks and their benefits, individuals, and organizations can unlock new levels of productiveness and innovation.

How to easily stream your (New) 3DS to a PC
For a long time, capturing footage from a 3DS was a pain - streaming the 3DS screens either required a hardmod to install a capture card (which, if you can, should still do if possible), or use one of the several wireless methods (NTR CFW and HzMod) that gave poor results, especially on Old 3DS.
Today, thanks to the effors of zbash92, there is now a way to stream the New 3DS display to your computer with actually decent picture quality and low latency!
youtube
New NTR CFW test done back when it was firstly released
Here's a few applications of streaming your 3DS to a computer:
Playing on a bigger screen
Recording footage of 3DS games
Capturing audio for OSTs or music you made on 3DS
Below is a guide to setting everything up, including audio capture.
Requirements
A hacked New 3DS system (Old 3DS users might use HzMod via a separate guide but the performance is VERY POOR. Old 3DS can still have their audio captured by audio cable.)
A good network connection that both the New 3DS and your PC share
(If you want to capture audio) A 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable and either a microphone port or a Y splitter that has a microphone port
Setup wireless streaming (3DS)
Install the .cia file onto your 3DS from the latest release of this NTR fork
Run the newly installed app, go through the setup until prompted to run a desired version - pick 3.6 HR at the very bottom
Press X+Y to open the NTR CFW menu and choose Remote Play (New 3DS) - this will show you the IP address your console has, and will also let you configure quality and performance options
Setup wireless streaming (PC)
Install one of the following NTR viewers: - NTRViewer (Windows and Linux, x64) - Snickerstream (Windows, x86 and x64) - kit-kat-slim (Windows, allows using input redirection AKA controlling your 3DS with the PC) - Twix (Windows, also allows input redirection and looks fancy) - cuteNTR (Linux) - cuteNTR-OSX (Mac OS) There are other ones, including for Windows 10/Xbox and even Wii U, but the performance may not be ideal for these
Run the NTR viewer you chose and input the IP address you got earlier. You can also set quality and performance options in the viewer as well as rendering options if available
Connect to your 3DS and enjoy looking at your console on a bigger(?) screen!
Setup audio capture
Connect the 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable to your 3DS headphone port and PC's microphone port (directly or via the Y splitter in computer's headphone port)
You can test the audio by either enabling listening to the new microphone device or using a program such as Audacity or OBS
Notes and Issues
TRY NOT TO CLOSE YOUR 3DS LID! It can sometimes lead to black screens and no response from the console, in which case you should hold the power button until it shuts down
This CANNOT record your DS, DSiWare or GBA VC games. Those require a capture card or using an emulator instead. Audio can be captured regardless of what your system is running
Some games may disable your internet connection, which means that you need to use patching option provided by NTR CFW or your NTR viewer of choice
If your NTR Viewer doesn't work, check firewall and viewer's render settings first and then try other viewers for your system
If your viewer disconnects on still screens, increase the timeout/wait time of the viewer if available (for Snickerstream, it's in Advanced settings)
If you have choppy framerate, decrease the quality, fiddle with QoS value and Encoder Priority, or get a better internet connection :p
If you have audio issues, try switching between microphone out and line out

(ENG) Auf Deutsch unten #nfcdab2024 “Leise-Park” 6th Ed. Berlin Near-Field Communication Digital Art Biennale aka #nfcdab #nfcdab is a DIY or DIWO [DO IT WITH OTHER]? Digital art biennale that travels on wireless technologies, light waves and electromagnetic fields e.g.: Wi-Fi routers, QR codes or NFC tags to access content. the idea of the biennale is to take advantage of the potential of near-field (mis)communication[sic!] and other sharing technologies for making web-based digital art accessible in outdoors settings. it slack-keeps presence next to the frameworks of galleries and institutions. Hashtag: #nfcdab #nfcdab2024
Open call: for online artists link to facebook event: https://fb.me/e/1MHZXhXzO
Project title: "Leise-Park".
Project description: We invite online artists to participate in our disturbing project entitled "Leise-Park". In this project, we want to explore the issue of silence as an opposition to the anxiety we may feel in the context of the development of various digital trends and Internet technologies. The pervasive availability of mobile devices for spreading content and ideas through all types of Internet-based media, creates a sense of loss of self-control resulting from the pervasive information chaos. Our beloved smartphones are beginning to turn us into a kind of zombie addicted to absorbing information content from the Internet. What consequences does this have for us as well as for further social evolution? Do the emotions that accompany us at this moment allow us to analyze this phenomenon. Can we face this new reality? Can artists help us understand what currently surrounds and shapes us. Can we find distance from the world around us and calm down, or will we become technological zombies? That's why in the “Leise-Park” project we want to ask this question to artists who are willing to take part in our project with their work. Like all our projects this one too is based on the idea of DIY and DIWO. We often think of the park as a place with sculptures, traditionally made of stone, here those sculptures are to be works displayed on the smartphones of the show's viewers. Access to the links via a poster with a QR code pasted on a cardboard presenter cut to resemble a plant plaque. Presenters with the artists' works will be placed at various locations in Leise-Park. The show will run from February 2 - 4, 2024 and is part of the Vorspiel project, which is an initiative of transmediale and CTM Festival to showcase the richness and diversity of Berlin. So we invite you, as part of our project, to a creative exploration of a former Berlin cemetery turned into a publicly accessible Leise-Park.

Projekttitel: "Leise-Park"
