Embracing Redemption: A Journey to Healing Regret and Embracing Your Past Mistakes Shaina Tranquilino February 27, 2024
Tumblr media
Regret is a powerful and universal emotion that everyone experiences at some point in their lives. Whether it's a decision that led to unintended consequences or a choice that we wish we could take back, regret has a way of lingering in our minds, casting a shadow on our present and future. However, it's important to recognize that healing from regret is not only possible but also a crucial step toward personal growth and self-discovery. In this blog post, we will explore the process of healing regret and how to embrace your past mistakes as catalysts for positive change.
Acceptance: The first step towards healing regret is accepting the reality of your past mistakes. It's natural to feel a range of emotions – guilt, shame, disappointment – but dwelling on these feelings without acceptance can hinder your ability to move forward. Acknowledge your actions, take responsibility for them, and understand that mistakes are a part of the human experience.
Learn and Reflect: Mistakes, no matter how painful, are valuable lessons in disguise. Take the time to reflect on the circumstances that led to your decisions and understand the underlying motivations. What can you learn from the experience? How can you use this knowledge to make better choices in the future? Learning from your mistakes transforms regret into a tool for personal development.
Practice Self-Compassion: It's essential to be kind to yourself during the healing process. Understand that everyone makes mistakes, and self-compassion is crucial for personal growth. Avoid self-criticism and negative self-talk, as these only perpetuate feelings of regret. Treat yourself with the same empathy and understanding you would offer a friend facing a similar situation.
Seek Forgiveness: If your mistakes have affected others, seeking forgiveness can be a crucial step in the healing process. Apologize sincerely, express remorse, and be open to understanding the impact of your actions on those around you. While forgiveness may not be immediate or guaranteed, the act of seeking it demonstrates your commitment to growth and change.
Focus on the Present: While it's essential to learn from the past, dwelling on it excessively can hinder your ability to enjoy the present and plan for the future. Shift your focus to the present moment, appreciating the opportunities for positive change that exist every day. Set realistic goals, cultivate healthy habits, and surround yourself with supportive relationships.
Embrace Change: Regret can serve as a powerful catalyst for change. Use it as motivation to redefine your priorities, values, and goals. Embracing change requires a willingness to step outside your comfort zone, but it also opens the door to new possibilities and opportunities for personal and professional growth.
Healing regret and embracing your past mistakes is a transformative journey that requires self-reflection, acceptance, and a commitment to positive change. By learning from your mistakes, practicing self-compassion, seeking forgiveness, and focusing on the present, you can turn regret into a stepping stone toward a more fulfilling and purposeful life. Remember, your past does not define you, but your ability to grow from it shapes your future.

i love imagining a cinematic sort of montage of scenes that show the juxtaposition of Viggo's upbringing against the life of the dragon riders; going from a young Viggo being told by his father and grandfather that dragons are witless beasts of vicious nature, to an older Viggo watching the riders share a deep bond with those same creatures.
young Viggo being told by his grandfather that dragons are without mercy, harsh as nature's own hands, power given flesh—to adult Viggo watching a night fury risk its life to save a boy, using its fire not for threat but for warmth, its claws not to maim but to hold, its wings not to attack but to carry.

#we trade pain for wisdom#whatever the case may be if it’s you or if it’s me growth and change and learning from the mistakes are all that we can do#to add to it didn’t deserve to know me like that* or appreciate my time etc#but throughout all the hardship I’ve been through with people that I didn’t work out well with (familyfriends romantic relationships)#ive learned a lot throughout my life from people and myself included#I’m grateful and appreciative of the wisdom I’ve gained and how I’ve overcame it but sad & angry at the thought of remembrance#I know what I’m saying is vague and this post isn’t about a specific person but just looking at it as a whole#people who genuinely like you and care about you want the best for you and will want to make things work no matter what#people who value you don’t treat you like shit people who value you show appreciation for you#people who love you let you know just like people who don’t they all let you know#but there’s been some instances where I’ve been the one who made mistakes and caused issues and things of that nature#I’ve taken those mistakes and learn from them and have grown from them since they happened#that’s the point of life learning experiencing understanding and growing#with or without you I will be fine :) I’m happy whether you’re in or out of my life#that statement alone if I had been told that before I would’ve cried my eyes out but now I’m like I’m fine with or without I don’t need#anyone or anything but if you want to tag along that’s fine if you don’t want to that’s also fine the freedom is there#it’s freeing in my heart to say that tbh#I know my worth and what I deserve I’m not going to settle for less

Crying over Athena's development how she went from 'I'm not looking for a friend' in My Goodbye to not only calling Odysseus her friend in We'll Be Fine but also befriending Telemachus and saying it outright to Ares during God Games. You could say she swallowed her pride, realised her mistakes, and went onto do better.

I’ve got another Headcanon for Kon-El!
Kon-El can initiate the Scolding Parental VoiceTM— I’m saying when he calls out the full name of a troublesome kid, that kid will feel the weight of disappointment and potential reprimanding of an adult figure, on their shoulder.
He developed this voice during his time in Gemworld. He’s super-abilities caused him to finish farm-work faster than most. As a result, he would babysit the other Gemworld farmers’ children and be the one to reprimand them if he sees them do something reckless and be the one to save them if they get into dangerous trouble.
One time, Kenan or any of his friends saw him Full Name a kid, and straight up told him, he kinda sounded like a disappointed-but-not-mad Superman. And it genuinely made his brain stop for a moment.
My guy experience psychic damage being reminded he ain’t the young person to be reprimanded in the situation but the adult who does the reprimanding.

“My case is not that the nation state is the only answer to the problems of modern government, but that it is the only answer that has proved itself.
We may feel tempted to experiment with other forms of political order. But experiments on this scale are dangerous, since nobody knows how to predict or to reverse their results.
The French, Russian, and Nazi Revolutions were bold experiments; but in each case they led to the collapse of legal order, to mass murder at home, and to belligerence abroad.
The wise policy is to accept the arrangements, however imperfect, that have evolved through custom and inheritance, to improve them by small adjustments, but not to jeopardize them by large-scale alterations the consequences of which nobody can really envisage.
The case for this approach was unanswerably set before us by Burke in his Reflections on the French Revolution, and subsequent history has repeatedly confirmed his view of things.
The lesson that we should draw, therefore, is that since the nation state has proved to be a stable foundation of democratic government and a secular jurisdiction, we ought to improve it, to adjust it, even to dilute it, but not to throw it away."

5 hours left in the night and the tooth pain is only ramping up despite the painkillers I took 🫠
At this point I'm considering taking one of the stronger meds I got after my surgery, but it's an opioid class med and I don't just want to take those willy nilly... On the other hand I'll be running on 0 hours of sleep at this rate and I was planning to go to rehab and a Christmas dinner tomorrow (today?).
Sorry my blog is so full of vents lately but I have several piled up health issues at the moment and yelling into the void when they don't let me sleep is therapeutic 😭 Can't fix the pain, but it does ease my mind at least.

I snapped today at work, and by snapped I mean I politely commented on a help desk ticket by summing up an mess of an (type of) issue that's come up for at least the fourth time in the 2+ months I've been managing user accounts, and asked the person responsible to fix it (himself for once) because last time I fixed his mess-up it took me two whole days to work out the details with at least four other colleagues from different departments and I really don't want to do it again. there's other shit that needs doing, I've been working 10+ hour days for most of this week already, so I need to cut down not add on more.
(good thing tho - at least we managed to fix the issue where the dataset of a newer employee got mixed up with another one of the same name and therefore wasn't able to apply for any of the access/accounts she needed. technically not entirely my area but it does impact us not being allowed to create an account for her so I figured I might as well track that issue down. took three days and at least three other people, but hey - it should all work out now. yay for that)
#been feeling anxious af ever since bc it's the first time I've been this firm in a reply and idk how they'll take it#there's underlying issues in inter-departmental communication that need fixing that cause these issues to happen again and again#but my boss is on parental leave and his substitute is sick not that she cares or is up for doing her job where communication is concerned#so there's no real sense in addressing that rn esp by me who's only been there since June. but it does frustrate me a lot#anyway. I'm sure I'll get over this too. but yeah.. ppl not thinking things through for the two mins it takes to create an account#or the twenty seconds it takes to check if one already exists before creating a new one#or the minute it takes to check if folks still have an active contract past their time working in your department before deleting an accoun#just jfc. put in a smidge of effort and five mins total and save the rest of us from spending half a day to fix your mistake#oh well. if I get a pissy response I'll just blame it on being new as an intern and being too motivated and idealistic I guess#god forbid I expect people to do their jobs thoroughly or with at least a singular thought..#anyway. I feel like I'm allowed to be grumpy abt this since we are the folks who end up having to fix this shit#and by we I mean pretty much mostly me at this point bc one colleague is sick atm. my boss barely has time for this and is on leave#and my other colleague only works half time so I'm the one who's been handling most of these over the past month or so#which.. is still insane considering how I'm a goddamn intern who shouldn't even have admin rights tbh#but without them I couldn't do anything at all lol so here I am. nice that they trust and believe in me I suppose#that's why I try to do my best. (who am I kidding that's always the case anyway)#but yeah. definitely a 50% staff support job and only 50% of the other important things that need doing rn it's more like 90/10#and it's funny how I still dread my two hours of hotline. but every time the line is too busy I still jump in#we are also only 6 people atm out of 10 and three of us are still in training. and one of the trained folks had to come back in mid time of#next week we'll likely be 4#depending on if our substitute boss lady is back.. not that I'd look forward to it. she's a mess and she's been horrible to deal with latel#sure. she's stressed. but she's either snapping at me when I ask abt shit I can't know yet or she's ignoring me. great basis for team work.#so honestly I'd rather she not return on Monday. esp not if she's gonna spread her germs everywhere#but now sleep. sorry for the rant. it's certainly been quite the month since I returned from my own wisdom tooth rated sick leave..#gotta be up again in 6.5 hrs so I can be at work at 6 to let the electrician in. I'm gonna sleep so hard over the weekend I stg#a day in the life of..

Set yourself up for stressful times.
Build resilience.
Stressful moments are useful
Chronic, unnecessary stress is to be avoided.
Errors are valuable and have the purpose to open possibilities for profit.
Be a proprietor of your "mistakes".
Prepare to respond efficiently.
Things will go wrong, you WILL be wrong, and that is ok, desirable actually. It's your response that is the important part.
Strengthen your ability to respond effectively.
Be responsible.
Train your mind to see that every miscue is a great gift that you must seize.
