Geralt and Yennefer are Ciri's parental figures, Geralt having adopted her with Yennefer being around long enough for Ciri to get attached. Geralt and Yennefer don't love eachother in *that* way, but they're still close and Yen is fine with being seen as Ciri's "mom". Ciri has assumed the entire time that Geralt and Yen are together which is why she decided Yen would be her new mom, and both Geralt and Yen haven't told her the truth yet since they believe she's too young right now to know.

Though, having to hide it from her might become a bit more difficult, since Geralt has begun to catch feelings for one of the local independent musicians new to town, going by the stage name of Dandelion...

I would kill for an RPG that takes place in the witcher universe... and by RPG I mean full on RPG experience where you can create your own character (not just male option) and customise their appearance and buy your own horse and name your horse and screw the local pretty elven prostitutes etc.

I need to point out that @dragneto wrote this post about Ships in a Desert at the beginning of July and this painting idea just moved into my brain and would not leave alone. I kept muttering "Vilgefortz looking at Geralt like an absolute fuckboy" 24/7 for a whole week. That whole scene in Art of the Illusion. look at him looking at Geralt. i meaaan. Then all the words started falling out of me. and then. and then the second half of the season drops at the end of July. and the show fucking staged their fight scene on the beach. and I'm now fucking TURBOCHARGED from all the fucking imagery. look at that old boat. man. I was never going to be okay.

look, look. okay, i love a lot of character dynamics and ship a lot of things. but oh my god. the show had FED ME for this particular dynamic. and i been writing and kept running with what I loved about the show and began running even harder with all the things i love about the books...and riding my own brainwaves about too many things. whewwww.

I've had a fantastic writerly summer. been fannish nirvana for me. I've been playing so hard in my sandbox. and it's been so much fun. anyway. the first two chapters are up on ao3 and it's full of horny symbolism and supreme levels of vilgefortz wankery. more fantasy and philosophy to come. I'm hoping to finish editing on the next part tonight or tomorrow and post that soon.

Ships in a Desert

ohhhh boy.

I think this is a story in which Geralt of Rivia and Vilgefortz of Roggeveen are strolling through Aretuza’s Gallery of Glory, and I think Ships in a Desert is the title of a painting that they come across—it’s a reinterpretation of the first landing of men which, while obviously not historically accurate, evokes the sense that the sea upon which the first humans were borne into this world has long since dried up, and the beach they found themselves strewn upon is an endless expanse of sand and cracked earth and stone littered with worn shards of old ship-wood. it speaks to the passage of time, the changing of the world long after the era of human colonialism began, though whether because of humans or in spite of them is a contentious topic among mages and artistic admirers.

the story’s actually about Vilgefortz trying his very best to convince Geralt that the lifetime of a Witcher compared to that of a mage is the classic metaphor of two ships passing in the night (a poem which does not exist in this world, yet in classic Sapkowski style is reinvented in the same way, just delivered by Vilgefortz himself). it seems at first like he’s offering Geralt a chance at the same immortality that mages have, and then it seems like he’s suggesting that long after Geralt’s gone, Yennefer will still remain, and it’s cruel of Geralt to involve himself with her knowing that his lifespan is so short, and then it becomes apparent that he’s actually suggesting a one-night stand somewhere in Tor Lara, like an absolute fuckboy.

Geralt takes the painting very literally, though, and not only misses the proposition, but assumes Vilgefortz is talking about the conjunction of the spheres, and after the conversation he walks away pondering the possibility of a world where men, thrust suddenly into a world not their own, might have crashed upon a shore that was barren and hostile and unfit to sustain human life, and appreciates the notion that somewhere, there was a world where mages didn’t mutate men into monster-killers and manipulate them for their own whims.

Geralt feels a brief yet significant sympathy for the short and confusing lives of people who likely never existed, and Vilgefortz ends the night horny and dejected.
