"But if college was free, then people would abuse that and get useless degrees" hell yeah I would! If I could go to college without debt I would make it my job to get a degree in every little thing that interested me. I'd get a doctorate in film studies. I'd have a bachelor's degree for every science I like. I'd try to learn at least 5 languages with varying results. I would learn something "useful" like coding and then follow it up with a ""useless"" degree like art history. I'd be the world record speed run holder for getting every degree possible.
But I can't afford college without going into massive debt, so instead I spent the last 5 years trying to figure out what I am passionate enough about to consider going into debt over, because unfortunately being passionate about everything is extremely expensive to pursue.
#simon says#i love learning so much and I hate the USA's college debt system#once they make that shit free I will be unstoppable#this topic sprung up because I had the idea that im very academic and annoyingly analytical that I might as well get a degree in it#because without a degree you just seem like an autistic asshole#but with a degree? then you look like a CREDIBLE autistic asshole#don't worry I will still learn but I still want that funky piece of paper to tell everyone I learnt it#also there's some things that are VERY difficult to learn#like I would love to persue this topic further but unfortunately I would need help with that#also before you say 'try taking [blank] classes instead! it's less expensive than a degree!' im broke#my only learning resource is the library sorry about that#also this is not the post to give me unwarranted financial advice#finances are one of the topics I DO NOT care about and I WILL NOT listen to a word you say

being aromantic is like. hey btw you're going to live a life that is the culmination of most of society's worst nightmares. sorry lol ✌️ but then you turn around and take a really good hard look at it and it turns out that living in that nightmare is fucking awesome and you get to wake up every day and take that fear that other people have and laugh and hold it close until it's a great joy for you instead. and being happy is a radical act that you define instead of someone else. and you're sexy as fuck that's just a fact of life i don't make the rules on that one
#aromantic people are just sexy i'm not making the decisions here it's just facts#course ur hot as fuck. it came free with the aromanticism#being sexy is just default settings for aromantic people 👍#hope this all helps. anyway i'm on my 'i hope i die alone <3 i can't wait to die alone <3' kick rn#i think the existential fear that people have of Not Partnering specifically is so. well.#obviously that shit is strong and it is SO awesome to be free of it.#realizing you're aro and you don't Want a partner can be such a hit to the solar plexus#cause society says that's the only thing that'll make you happy. so either you go without that thing or you force yourself#into doing something you don't want which would make you unhappy anyway.#so you think it's a lose lose situation and you have to come to terms with what amatonormativity presents as the worst possible situation#but then! whoa! turns out personhood is inherently valuable in and of itself and romantic partnering is just a construct!#and that nightmare is now your life to do with as you please... define as you will... structure as you want...#best case scenario. is what i'm saying.#every day i wake up ready to spit all that amatonormative rhetoric back in life's teeth by being alone and being happy#and it's so fucking satisfying. every day.#fucking JUBILANT being by myself. and i love being a living breathing 'fuck you' to the romantic system#you need a partner to be happy? oh that's sooo fucking crazy guess i'll go be miserable then. in my perfect fucking dream life lmao#yeah obviously it's the worst possible outcome on earth to die without a partner. so terrible. can't wait for it :)#aromantic#aromanticism#aro positivity#aroace#arospec#sorry to bitches who are sad about not having a partner. i could not give a fuck though get better soon#you couldn't EVER pay me enough to go back to a mindset in which my inherent value wasn't enough by myself.#FUCK that shit. absolutely miserable and a bad life outlook in general. like genuinely do the work w/ amatonormativity and get better#life is something that can be so fulfilling whether someone wants to kiss you or whatever or not#i'm on antidepressants and i have people i care deeply about. what the fuck would i need a partner for lmao

[ID: Ask from @storiesandsquirrels, transcribed in alt text]
also: link to Cow Lore
There's one major misconception here I've gotta correct before answering earnestly; Holsteins do need Super Duper Food. This is one of their major problems as a breed, you need to give them high quality feed for high quantity, low quality milk.
But! That said! These are valid questions that deserve real responses. In spite of the quick correction, I actually want to answer them as you phrased them because I think it would be more illuminating. I'm going to try and summarize them as I go along;
Question 1: "Why wouldn't we want to use The Most Efficient Cow?"
The simplest answer is disease. My ""prediction"" came true, and bird flu has mutated to spread extremely easily through the infected udders of Holsteins. No one has died of bovine-contracted HPAI yet, but with Brainworm Bobby and his love of raw milk in charge of the CDC...
well. my last prediction was prophetic. let's hope this one's not.
Minmaxing a breed for one specific purpose always means intensive inbreeding. Like I mentioned, 9 million Holsteins are genetically equivalent to 60 individuals. A more genetically diverse population is one that will be better at preventing disease outbreaks, and reducing their severity when they do.
And what even is the Most Efficient Milk Cow? If you're only selecting for pure milk production to drive down its cost, you get a breed of cattle that lacks every other important trait that would make it good livestock;
They get sick more often, due to inbreeding depression and lack of physical fitness, requiring more antibiotics and veterinary care.
They are bad parents who will need more human intervention to birth and raise calves
They won't be good grazers, meaning they need a specific food grown for them, increasing how much "functional" land is actually dedicated to cattle husbandry.
Their carcass won't yield as much meat, so more cattle have to be raised and slaughtered to meet demand.
Their bodies will burn out much quicker than a healthier animal, meaning you need to replace your livestock more often.
When it comes to living beings, "efficiency" is "fragility." It's not a stable system to begin with.
Even with the pure logic aside, just, step back here and look at the situation with a heart. We'd be making unhealthy, short-lived animals lacking critical instincts to lead good social lives. AND we probably haven't even fixed the "less land" problem, just shifted the land off-site.
For what? For more milk? We have SO MUCH milk we don't even know what to do with it!
Question 2: "Isn't an overabundance of cheap milk a good thing?"
no.
Under the infinite genius of Capitalism, thousands of gallons of milk just gets poured into the sewer daily because there's too much of it. Transporting it to a processor would cost more than it's worth, sometimes the processors turn milk away because they don't want to overproduce products, and even the US government can't subsidize every last drop; it still has 1.4 billion pounds of cheese in various caves and warehouses across the country.
The price of milk cannot get any lower because it's already being sold below the cost it takes to produce it, and yet, we're still here literally pouring it down the drain.

[photo from bill ulrich who photographed a farmer dumping milk back during the pandemic. this isn't even a recent photo. this happens every time there's a milk surplus. im using this photo because i like the farmer's cunty little pose. look at him. "just ain't right"core.]
And milk being dumped into the sewer is more than just wasteful. It's a biohazard.
Milk doesn't stop rotting when it's dumped. If you live downstream of a milkhouse, improper milk disposal reeks.
It's full of nutrients, too, which causes diatoms, cyanobacteria, and other types of algae to go into overdrive-- causing a Harmful Algal Bloom event in the water, or HAB.
HABs are horrific. There's HUNDREDS of different types. They can suck up oxygen and create "dead zones" which kills all aquatic life, they can poison the water supply for an entire town, and some can even cause toxic fumes that make it hard to breathe on land.
Now, listen, I don't want to scare you into never dumping out rotten milk or anything! It's that on an industrial scale, it's REALLY REALLY bad if a farm overproduces milk-- especially crummy milk that can't be made into decent cheese or other dairy products.
In fact, if we did produce milk on a smaller scale, it would be better for everyone! Unless you're a Milk Guzzling Fiend like I am, you probably wouldn't need to buy a whole gallon at a time. In countries like Italy, it's sold fresh and in smaller containers, and you're just expected to pick it up as you need it.
This is why milkmen used to exist, and still do in places that are cool; they'd deliver your supply fresh from the creamery. Less waste, less stress! The "subscription model" is actually sooooooooooo much better for milk production, since it helps to stagger out those "surges and drops" of demand that leads to milk dumps.
Question 3: "If the cow eats less, doesn't that mean less land for pasture, which is a good thing?"
There's a lot to unpack within this sentiment. It's actually based on a couple of common assumptions on a few levels, which are incorrect in fascinating ways. Challenging this means opening up your worldview on how complex keeping livestock actually is!
I'll start with the simpler part;
You could cut fresh pasture out of the equation entirely and shove a cow into a concrete pen with a food box-- but are you counting the land growing the fodder?
When you grow corn the way that we do on industrial farms in the US, it's unbelievably destructive. Unending oceans of monoculture. Fogged with pesticide, pumped full of fertilizer which causes HABs like dumped milk does, sprayed with thousands of gallons of wasted water.

When you look at this image, I need you to understand you are looking at a dead zone. Like a suburban lawn, just because it's green doesn't mean it's good. Nothing grows here but corn and pests of corn, which gets poisoned and dies without returning any of that energy to the ecosystem.
This is usually what is being given to "grain-fed cattle," either when they're sent to a feedlot to hit their slaughter weight, or when they're lactating so they need the extra nutrition. It's also so nasty it's inedible to human beings.
Now, a lot of cattle farmers will just supplement their cow's diet, doing a mix of pasture feeding (much cheaper) and grain feeding (quicker gains). But the facts on this are clear; pasture-kept cattle result in LESS emissions and need LESS total space than cows in confinement.
In fact, there were a LOT of benefits!
Overall gas emissions from the cows dropped by 8%
Ammonia pollution was down by 30%
Not needing to run farm equipment for fodder planting and harvest reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 10%
Rotated crop fields didn't sequester carbon; but the newly converted perennial grasslands store as much as 3,400 pounds per acre.
The outside cows did produce less milk volume, but the milk they did produce was higher quality. So, looking at all the benefits here, it's clear that pasture is actually something that should be embraced for ecological reasons, not rejected.
In FACT, it should be EMPHASIZED. Because, this is the mind-blowing part,

Pasture can ALSO be an ecosystem.
In fact, I'm a Warrior Cats guy who once did a deep dive on moorlands just so I could write WindClan better. There are entire biomes that only exist because of grazing, and British lowland heath is one of them!
Keeping cattle in a sustainable, ecologically sound way is going to look different depending on where in the world you're doing it. So many earnest, good-willed people have bought into the lie that humans are a problem, and that everything "associated" with us becomes a barren wasteland as if we are tainted. YOU are not the problem! The problem is, and always has been, exploitation. Unsustainable relationships with the land we're part of.
Indigenous people in Europe, Asia, and Africa have been keeping cattle for thousands of years. In North America, cattle can be used to maintain ecosystems that have been badly affected by the colonial eradication of the American Bison. In South America, Brazil specifically has been making incredible advances with highly efficient integrated crop-livestock-forestry farming.
Generally, pastures here in the US are not as intensely managed as an equivalent crop field. Some people fertilize them, or water them mid-summer, but absolutely not to the same extent as industrial corn farms. Cattle are typically rotated between pastures, allowing each to re-grow before they come back to graze again.
Obviously, yes, overgrazing can be an issue. Not every open space should be converted into a pasture, and the destruction of other environments to turn into cow land is a problem. But that is an issue of bad land stewardship, not the mere practice of keeping livestock.
Bottom line, though? Cattle who can graze and survive outside are better for the environment than cattle that can't.
...but hey, you know what Holsteins happen to be really bad at?
EVERYTHING. GRAZING.
They are notoriously terrible grazers. They can't do megan THEEEEE thing that cows are known for. Fragile frames, a lack of fat to keep them warm outside, increased demand for food, distaste for any rough forage, horrible mothering instincts, the list goes on. Holsteins are a NIGHTMARE to try and keep outside all year round compared to other breeds.
(especially heritage breeds, like the Milking Devon, Florida Cracker, or Texas Longhorn. Between these three, you'd be totally covered in 80% of American climates.)
I've already explained why it's not actually very good or important that we minmax milk volume, but even if that was actually something we should value, there are so many downsides that they would absolutely not be the dominant cow breed in a truly "efficient" system.
"Less cows means less cow food and cow land" is sound logic, but Holsteins are not the right cow for that job.
Question 4: "How could this be done in a way that doesn't increase cost of living?"
I'm not sure how to answer this question, simply because I'm not Bonestar, Leader of AmericaClan. Wish I was. I would rule tyrannically.
It's worth noting that Brazil is the second largest producer of beef in the entire world, AND the number one largest exporter of it, AND only puts 30% of its land to total agricultural use. The USA dedicates over 50%. And also Brazil is net reducing its amount of agricultural land while increasing output.
It seems clear to me that the USA actually has a massive food waste and resource distribution problem, to the point where the price we pay for stuff is actually wildly disconnected from the actual value of the goods and labor.
I think the way that us Americans tend to frame our conversations on these topics as "growth" vs "cuts" instead of asking how to minimize waste by making existing systems more efficient prevents us from solving problems. We're also just... really culturally resistant to the idea of anything being more "expensive," even if it ends up costing us a lot more money in waste or mismanagement later.
Penny wise and dollar foolish ass country.
Question 5: "What can we personally do about this?"
I mean, I wasn't making a call to action in Cow Lore, I was just explaining to one of my regulars why I don't like Holsteins LMAO. Since you're asking though...
I don't think we can change the wider trend in the dairy industry without actual government intervention and regulation, though, and that's very unlikely in the current political environment. they just sent random dudes to Ausalvador-Birkenau and when the Supreme Court said "bring this specific person back" they said "nuh uh." fellas I don't think we're getting better dairy regulations in the foreseeable future.
So I think the most productive thing to do is focusing on supporting small farms and heritage breeds. Get involved in your community garden or heritage society if you have one.
Not only is that generally a very rewarding thing, but it will be helpful to you in case The Situation Gets Worse. Knowing your neighbors and having real human connection is your best defense against economic recession.
Supporting the locals is always a great thing to do, which can be as simple as going to farmer's markets. You don't need to buy fancy food every day to make an impact on your community-- it can be a treat sometimes!
You could also subscribe to the Livestock Conservancy's free newsletter, where they talk about the work they're doing and upcoming events. If you're a knitter, crocheter, or any other kind of fiber artist, you could even join in on a challenge they're running where you make items out of rare wool for prizes!
Should you end up liking the work they do, you can become a member for 4$ a month, or go to one of their educational events.
Even just talking about the problem can do a lot! Did you know the Highland Cow was actually critically endangered in the USA within the past 10 years? It was the work of the Livestock Conservancy, plus a surge in their popularity, that helped to bring their numbers up. Word of mouth is a powerful thing.
All that said, remember, you can't solve every problem. It's a big world and there's a lot of them. Being made aware of an issue doesn't mean you have to drop what you were previously doing-- just care a lot about something that you want to improve, and let that guide you.
#Funfact: My great-something-grammy boinked the milkman#and that's how my great-something-grandparent happened lmaoo#Straightup parody level family drama#queen behavior tho ngl#Perhaps I simply respect my Milkmancestor's game too much#got milk in my blood#bone babble#cows#i like. tried not to say it TOO much besides the powerpuff girls meme. but.#capitalism is the core problem under everything here#it doesn't actually encourage efficiency on a large scale; it *encourages* overproduction and *incentivizes* artificial scarcity#under a capitalist system it is a good thing to crush your small farm competition by literally flooding the market with cheap milk#because it's more profitable to dump sour milk onto the nearest poor community than lose sales to Meemaw Moomoo And Her Heritage Herd#and yeah the cows are sick and dying from genetic issues and infections. but it's cheaper to feed them antibiotics#because it's not like the dairy industry is the one who pays for the medical care of antibiotic-resistant superbugs that jump to humans!#the questions were genuine tho so I was trying to answer them without a Degrowth Rant lmaooooooooooo#will say as an aside though that when Cost of Living comes up as a concern there's a red part of me that is like#''comrade. ANY cost to live is too high.''

here i am. laying in bed. just thinking shooter arc thoughts. like, buck having his insane suisidal streak in him, probably thinking about eddie laid up in the hospital. and the little ammount of sleep he got on the diaz couch last night was guilt-riddled and scattered with imadges of eddie in the hospital, buck crying on chris's bed , buck in the hospital, eddie comforting chris. and buck is so angry, not even at the shooter but at himself for losing composure and probably scaring chris half-to-death at the relief that eddie was going to be okay. eddie. eddie. eddie. his heart thumps, and buck thinks that had that call gone diffrently, he probably would have been useless to chris, keeling over and dying of a heart attack on the spot. how could he keep going without his best frenid? hiw could his heart keep punping blood to his lungs and brain when eddie wasn't able to breathe, or think without him? and buck thinks bitterly, i was right there. i was right there, had the shooter moved his gun the slightest ammount and it would've been me; it could have been me, and i deserve it, but eddie doesn't. not when he has a bright, sunshine, smart kid at home who everyone loves. not when he's served the country buck calls home. not when he's eddie, a little perfect, just a little, and rough around the edges, but he's the better half of their frenidship. but then buck makes one small comment, that same thought thats been running around for days, "it would be better if i had been shot", and buck doesn't know it but it sends eddie into a spiral. becuse eddie is thinking 'how can he not know? how can he not know how important he is to me and my son?' and eddie is restless, becuse here is his best frenid, who took care of chris when he was down, who always has his back, who will fight for anyone he deems family like it's the last thing he'll ever do. here is this man who saved his son, rescued him through a tsunami, and still had the nerve to feel awful for every scratch and scar chris gained in the storm (physcal and mental) like it was his damn fault the tsunami happened!! how does he not know the eddie would intentionaly throw himself on front of that bullet so that buck wouldn't be hit? and eddie thinks back to the well incident. how does his best frenid not know that eddie had so much faith in him and his ablity to raise chris? every call, EVERY call that even went a little sideways since the well, eddie has it in the back of his mind that he MIGHT die. and his comfort lies in his saint christopher metal, and the man who is standing right beside him for all of it, who would get that call and would FIGHT for his heart walking around outside his body, his son. and so eddie is sitting there, restless in the hospital, and he comes to the conclusion that he has to tell him. becuse how dare buck insinate that his life is nothing? he's a protector of chris now, and he needed to hold that weight. yes. eddie was going to tell him. tommorow, when they discharge him. becuse buck deserves to live knowing the permenant teather he has to the diaz family. buck deserves it.

some accessibility tools and disability aids are not always needed. some aren't life saving. some do help people but aren't necessary for life.
pluralkit is an accessibility tool for systems, but is not vital to existing. both those things can be true.
#reading the tags and like. yall know people can also live without wheelchairs n stuff right?#it makes things worse if you don't have it but a lot of that stuff isn't 100% needed to exist and live#and i'd say pluralkit is low on my “needed accessibility tools” list but it's still there to help systems#(who are often disabled by their systemhood)#syscourse

yall are about to piss me off by not having any PASSING basic knowledge of the way the u.s. military manipulates its recruits into joining by typing up one of your uninformed, unresearched, unempathetic, individualistic, unbelievably annoying posts about how 100% of the people in the military ended up there because they just Love America So Damn Much! they're extremely mature and informed at time of recruitment, they can totally leave anytime they want, they totally had tons of other avenues in life they could've taken, there was no rush at all to get income as fast as possible, and everyone in the military also totally is part of the combat divisions and personally enjoys being IN the military very much, big believers of violence. everyone in the military is shooting guns all day, that's how that works. they LOVE BLOODSHED. also I love the "amewicans haha" twang to this type of shit because you're actually TOTALLY stealing our Thing, which is turning systemic issues into Individual Issues. Instead of talking about the powers that be, it's so Personal Choice up in here. It's, "well you shouldn't have done it then. I totally wouldn't because I know better." you don't wanna talk about the military industrial complex as a whole, and you don't want to talk about recruiters, you just want to pin the blame on Specific Individual People one-by-one, as if they're responsible for the system that they're being ground up in. someone was in the military? bad person, no matter what. it's easier to believe that, I guess, than to acknowledge that Normal People (with high school educations) are manipulated and incentivized into joining a system that is Bad. at like age 18. but yeah no that 18 year old should have just been smarter lol haha anyway here are some screenshots for no particular reason
side note this reply of someone going "umm just get loans and go into a high paying field it's easy XD" as a direct response to someone trying to explain how most americans joining the military are being funneled in that direction out of a need for money.
and another person who Decided that americans join the military just CLENCHING their teeth thinking of other people, and not thinking completely selfishly about their own selves and their own income/housing/healthcare.
#I had a longer post w more bullshit in it but ukw nobody's even gonna read THIS one. so.#dumb ass cunts seriously LMAO just the individualism of it all....#we're all just selectively forgetting that most people join the military straight out of high school / after failing to kickstart#their lives so they don't know shit yet and they are categorically not educated and don't have money#you NEED money and have been groomed by recruiters ALREADY into believing this is#The Best and Only to make a survivable amount of money without a college education-- bc they can't afford college btw#and they don't want to take on student debt either bc everyone already knows what a big fuckeroo that is#recruiters WILL DO ANYTHING TO GET YOU TO JOIN. they will KEEP CALLING YOU. they'll answer your questions#to make it sound like this is going to be a GREAT life decision. you can get all KINDS of jobs (true)#they love to say the thing about how only about 15% of the military will actually see combat in any way#they love to list all the jobs where you will literally just be working at an office or a pharmacy or in tech etc etc etc#the recruiters are offering housing healthcare steady pay and BONUSES if you sign on for longer.#so you let your guard down because you were so scared of the actual fighting. BECAUSE YOU'RE 18 IN THIS SCENARIO BTW.#you cunts will not meet anyone who hates the military as much as people who are NOW DONE working in the military#you don't know enough when they get you and then either you stay placated by the benefits or you scramble away as fast as possible#the number one military haters are people who know what goes on bc they already did it#source: I LIVE NEXT TO A MILITARY BASE LMAO PEOPLE HATE IT HERE!! they are NORMAL PEOPLE#I need you to get it into your head that the people committing atrocities in war were NORMAL when they joined#and that for every person in the military who's actively shedding blood there's 20 who do PAPERWORK#and they both are being put in the same category by you!! and they are BOTH being controlled by the same system!!#sergle.txt#I hate yall I really do.

Jin-Woo is the "introvert who got adopted by an extrovert and...okay, guess we're friends now" friend and Jin-Ho is the "extrovert saw introvert and adopted them" friend, but at the same time, neither of them has ever made a friend before, Jin-Ho imprinted on the first person to offer him any kind of guidance and protection, even incidental and half-hearted as Jin-Woo's efforts were, and Jin-Woo has no idea why this human golden retriever puppy has started following him around. Oh, and Jin-Ho thought he was a serial killer for a hot minute when they first met. Their relationship fascinates me.

If Hunger Games is about the innateness of human dignity and what happens when you try to strip people of their humanity, BoSaS says an innate part of human dignity is responsibility for others and for your choices and is about the dehumanization that happens when you lose that
#that’s one thing I was struck by is that Snow IS in effect in his own version of the hunger games#and they start to look a lot like his version afterward#he’s always hungry but being in the hunger games as a mentor brings more food for him and sometimes his family#he realizes that anyone may try to kill him—Dr Gaul. the other tributes. he does think he’s going to be hunted and murdered#and maybe part of that IS leftover from the war and some of it is because the games are perpetuating it#(controlling the war pfft that just means be able to do whatever violence they please without consequences)#the way he’s performing like it’s all normal anyways#and when he feels pressured into something wrong he justifies it as someone else’s fault he has no choice#which is what the games are and furthermore what they become#a performance like it’s all normal and entertaining#he faces the snakes first he’s bombed just like the others#there’s a ridiculous discrepancy that’s absolutely sickening in the way he thinks about the games while watching and comparing his#experience to that of the kids in the arena and you go this is nothing alike!!#and then other times you go oh. it is a lot alike actually#and that’s because the same system that runs the capitol runs the hunger games#and what’s really fascinating is if the hunger games og books are about the struggle to be a person in the dehumanizing environment of the#games then tbosas is about Snow’s struggle to retain humanity in that environment#and the way you do is by claiming responsibility#by growing up! the same way Katniss and peeta do#and saying that’s not how I’m going to be actually!#but snow doesn’t claim responsibility#he renounces it. he’s not sejanus’ keeper! but if he had been he would have been a man#not a jabbering little spy. not a monster#magpie reads tbosas

i am not ready to get pissed off today but can we not ruin people’s positive fandom experiences. can we not. if someone makes a post saying “i love sophie foster!!!!” can we not go to that post and immediately comment “well i don’t like her”. if someone shares a headcanon and it clashes with yours can we not go to that post and reply “well that headcanon is WRONG because HERE’S WHAT CANON SAYS”. if someone talks about a ship can we not go on that post and start ripping it to shreds. can we not. you are aware that just scrolling past without engaging is an option, right? you know you can tamp down the urge to express your negative opinion where inappropriate, right? make your own damn post!!!! can we not ruin positivity posts for the people that like/made them. can we please not. please.
#none of the examples i cited are actually what i’m pissed about. they’re just examples#if you don’t agree with a post you can do this magical amazing thing called SCROLLING PAST WITHOUT ENGAGING#when posts are all “sokeefe is so cute!!!!” do you see me commenting shit like “actually they’re toxic and they suck”?#no because i have basic fandom decency and have a semblance of self-control. do you think the sokeefers care about my opinion????#the only exception is when the person explicitly says they welcome debate#and usually a post that just says something like “omg who loves biana vacker here?” is not the sort of post that is inviting debate#jfc you all are you not ashamed#sorry for the vent i needed to get that out of my system. saw some responses to a post about a certain character that pissed me off#kotlc#kotlc fandom#keepblr#<- what i wrote this about#someone’s going to ask for the actual details that inspired this but i’m not giving them out publicly. dm me if you want to know#mine

as I dig into making an update for the Dalish Rook mod, I get more and more frustrated with the way "elven" dialogue currently works in the game.
why is it an elven Rook of any background knows that "anvallenim" means "womb" in ancient elven, but then only a Veil Jumper elf knows what the way of three trees is when it's one of the basics of elven culture? and, furthermore, only a Veil Jumper Rook (regardless of race btw) can recognise that Assan is named after the elven word for arrow? why are these requirements such a mess?
#it's already bad enough that only VJs can be canonical Dalish elves WITHOUT any indication by the game that's how it works#but why is the game so random about what only a canonical Dalish elf would know and what isn't#it's not even “why won't the game let me be Dalish” (I don't care about making a Dalish Rook) it's “why won't it be consistent about it”#the womb thing is so egregious to me. like why is *that* the non-gatekept bit#veilguard critical#< what does it say about me that my first ever public veilguard critique is about something like this#apologies I'm a stickler for details and it really grinds my gears when something doesn't follow a proper system#like pick a struggle smh!!!!#flowers.txt#flowers blogs

Genuine question for those of you who say that you want the dissolution of all states. What do you envision in place of states in terms of:
Logistics (i.e. making sure every area has the basic resources it needs in order to function and people not die for lack of water, food, fuel, medical supplies, etc.) Like not assigning these things necessarily but literally just getting them to various far-flung places.
Security (how do you prevent people from outside the area coming in and taking everything including resources, land, people, etc.) How do you prevent authoritarian groups coming in and occupying your formerly peaceful, non-hierarchical society?
Supporting people outside of affinity networks or within rigid social systems (a lot of disabled people, queer people, and other people on the social, familial, and religious outs are gonna die without some kind of appropriate systems in place to meet these needs.)
Addressing major environmental challenges that require cooperation over vast areas of land, if not global cooperation.
Rule of law, especially when it comes to human rights, freedom of movement, freedom of religion/culture, dispute resolution between governing bodies of whatever variety that doesn't involve war, etc. but also just like, basic laws governing interpersonal relationships (preventing rape, murder, theft, etc. and addressing the aftermath of those things in a humane, just way.)
Peaceful transition from states to whatever it is you imagine taking their place, without hemorrhaging lives from the most vulnerable populations.
And like, there's more that I'm sure I'd have questions about too, but these concerns are so basic that I just cannot continue the conversation without knowing what the plan is for these essential tenets of an organized society.
Don't get me wrong: I don't love states and wish we had a better system too. I am also painfully aware that states are failing many if not most of these all the time. However, what I would need to know is how what you are proposing is better than trying to improve what currently exists and isn't going to come at the cost of catastrophic loss of human life, human cultures, animal life, and land destruction. And not in a pie-in-the-sky way, a realpolitik way.
#yes this question was originally prompted by the ''I'm not [just] anti-Israel‚ I'm against all states everywhere'' leftists#but I'm not talking about that specific conflict in this post#I am genuinely asking what you envision in place of all states everywhere in the world and how we get there#it's not enough to just say ''states bad''#that's a long-range criticism that's valid but unactionable without a real plan that doesn't get people killed#if your answer is ''just dissolve [X]'' and you don't have a Plan B?#you are a deeply unserious person and I will be giving your geopolitical opinions the corresponding weight#if your answer is ''the future we work towards should have in mind the replacement of states with a different system but#for now we will try to improve things in [X] [Y] and [Z] ways'' then sure#I'm listening#if you have a plan for an immediate overhaul I'm deeply skeptical but listening

As the US election closes in and the final states take to the polls, I want to remind people to turn out and protest.
Yep, protest. Strike, disrupt, be out there on the street regardless of who you voted for or who wins. I expect to see you all out there demanding; access to abortion nation wide, protections against discrimination, free universal healthcare, a free Palestine, anti war, prison abolition, to increase the minimum wage, and for a US free of the electoral college and that counts votes as votes.
Yes, you can say "you should vote for Harris" and do so as much as you like, but do not forget the power you have through your own everyday actions away from the polls and that of protesting. Do not use the excuse that your right to vote means it's somehow more foundational or important than the right to protest. You have the ability to create direct action and that is so so important, please don't just expect a rich representative to stick to their promises every time you vote; you have power too, never forget that.
This system will not change until we, the people, make it. There is NO representative that can ever change the system that allowed them in, and likewise; this system will never allow a candidate that would stop it from continuing and/or ensuring its designated purpose of oppression and subjugation. Resist, regardless of the results.
Long live the resistance.
#not to be a “far leftist extremist anarchist commie” but I'd even go far as to say let's tear down the US imperialist empire#I'd also go as “far” as to say land back to the nations that would make sure to grant all the above without the useless bureaucracy#but some of y'all might see handing sovereignty to the land councils elders and chiefs as “too far” but anyway#point is don't just think “all I can do is vote” because thats the minimum and in the us it has far less power than everywhere else#- due to the electorial college#like some of y'all's votes arent going to he counted and even if Harris gets a majoroty it could still be trump#don't place all your hopes on a corrupt voting system and a rigged electon believe in the people around you and protest#Eat the rich and make a better world#We can do better and we WILL create better with our own hands#Again (and I i can't believe I have to say this yo be heard) I'm not saying “don't vote blue” or whatever#I'm saying regardless of what you do there should still be protests and regardless of the result there should be protest#I'm saying this system won't change until you make it bevause there is NO representative you can vote for that will do that#usa#usa politics#us elections#kamala harris#donald trump#from the river to the sea palestine will be free#free palestine#resistance#long live the resistance#long live the intifada#protest#free gaza#palestine#politics#also this applies to Australia too our gov won't change until the system is torn down and replaced#I am holding you all and shaking you to go out there and do something for yourselves beyond picking one of the two rich overlords#“trump is dangerous” and “this entire system is inherently dangerous” are two things that coexist now get out there and start causing mayhem#and don't stop until the world changes

staring at that post in the jgy tag like.... just @ me next time. lol.
anyway sure, whatever, i'm a fandom bully for having a salty blog tagline, occasionally asking people in the tags not to tag their character hate if the hate is really egregious (no ability whatsoever to control their behaviour, ftr! and no interest in doing so!) and for clapping back at people on reddit who are already bringing the cunty energy to the discourse. or for getting cheesed off when people ignore me politely asking them to keep shit out of the notes on my posts here, or out of the replies on posts intended to be positive on reddit. cancelled.
you know you can just block me right. you can do that.
#salty peak sect 🧂#the only thing i am doing is not caving to pressure to shut up#i'm not going into the wangx!an tags or posts about them on other platforms to dunk on stuff you like#which is a courtesy you guys do not extend to us#lmfao. wild.#anyway i'm leaving anon turned on for now but i'm currently just waiting for the other shoe to drop with this#also i hope this goes without saying#but please do not @ that user or go into their DMs or send them hate of any kind#let them get this out of their system#talking to them directly will not help

I understand not liking all of Harris's policies. I understand not wanting her as president. I understand believing she will not improve things for the vast majority of people. what I don't understand is looking at the two choices we have and choosing to focus on how much she will not help, because if we're honest at worst she will maintain status quo, whereas Trump is vying to make it worse. like at a certain point you gotta man up and understand that sometimes you're not voting for who wins but rather who loses. why would you rather Harris lose than Trump
#uspol#this has been a post#also please note that I am not saying the status quo is good! it's terrible in a lot of ways for most people!#why would you want it to get worse#'we already survived one trump presidency' a lot of people didn't!!!!#also you may have noticed things did get demonstrably worse as a result of his policies!#there's a lot I hate about the Democratic Party. and their policies and the things that aren't THEIR policy but that they're too weak#or apathetic to change#I wish we had more than a two party system#but that won't happen without election reform

excuse me, you recently related a post with a tag asking if people remembered when people cared about recoining things and I’ve been thinking about it and I’m wondering if you meant that caring about recoining was good or bad?
We dislike re-coining. I don't have the spoons to explain the full part of it, but it mostly comes down to our more general criticisms of the extent of individualism in the MOGAI community (recoins, especially when they are of terms that have already been coined many times, often feel as though they are disregarding the contributions of other coiners, as well as ignoring the community symbol purpose of flags) and it feels disrespectful to the work of archivists. Every time we see another gender related to the song I/Me/Myself by Will Wood and nothing else, we feel like our work and our efforts in not only preventing terms from being lost as well as making them so easy to search for is, uh. Pointless. Not valued. We've spoken about this with some other archivists who have said they feel the same.
There are five (5) genders related to that song on our blog alone, by the way, and that's only counting the ones that have no other specifications. There are also five (5) related to the album Everything Is A Lot, and four (4) related to the song Thermodynamic Lawyer, and four (4) related to The Normal Album. Again, this is only counting ones without any other specifications, and are only the ones posted on our blog. This is a regular thing.
#We have bigger criticisms of the MOGAI community. This one is rather minor at the end of the day.#We thus don't make posts about it. We'll complain about it in semi-public but we won't post about it publicly.#We also are still mulling over something rabidbatboy said once while we discussed it and trying to re-evaluate#our thoughts with that comment in mind. Which was‚ why should someone have to be the first#to get to coining a term for an experience for their interpretation of it to be considered the most...#Valid? For lack of a better word? Valid really isn't the right word here. Authentic maybe.#It's a multi-faceted topic and we wish we'd had the mental capacity as of late to really think about it#since we think it's fascinating and we like discussions like this.#We have a lot of criticisms of the MOGAI community. We love MOGAI so incredibly deeply and thus we#criticise. What was it that Sojourn said? How shallow it would be‚ for us to love without opinion.#We are generally a petty person. We have a perception of ourself as being an utter asshole and while we're repeatedly#told that we are not‚ this perception persists nonetheless. As a result we... I completely lost track of this thought#because I was too busy laughing at the body's mum's reaction to seeing the whole ham that we‚ alongside#our brother‚ bit directly into‚ repeatedly‚ extensively. She took so long to notice. What was I saying?#I have completely lost this damn thought. Going to keep the tags about it in case I remember later and can finish the thought.#I don't actually know if this answers your question.#Please look up Will Wood things before you coin a Will Wood thing thank you.#Ask#Anon#{you're not posting this long fucking ramble in the tags without noting who you are#Fine. For our own reference‚ this post written by Jon arn Jonathan of PV. Happy system anniversary to me.
