SeaWing mythology thing that probably biologically makes no sense.
SeaWings shed their gills plates as dragonets, usually around the age of 3 or 4, and then never again.
According to SeaWing mythology, if someone takes your gill plates they can control you. (Possibly rooted in old tales of the Breath of Evil).
SeaWings historically hate RainWings. There used to be a myth about a RainWing prince stealing an Animus SeaWing princess' gill plate to force her to marry him and bring animus magic to the RainWings. (Possibly inspired by old IceWing tales about Foeslayer and Arctic) The night before the wedding, the SeaWing princess took her gill plate he'd stolen and shattered it, killing herself in a heroic act of sacrifice. After the RainWings-are-pathetic propaganda, the myth shifted to be about a SkyWing prince instead.

Sandwings, Draco arenicolus
My lovely babies. Mostly the same as my original ones, but a bit more armored like an armadillo. Also new chin spikes and a forward facing nose spike for funsies. They're well built for walking long distances and do so quite regularly, and have good low-light vision, as walking during the night is much less energy-taxing than flying during the day. Their flat feet and blunt claws help with this as well.
This Sandwing is doing a very good example of a defensive posture, as Sandwing bellies are much less armored than their backs, they lower themselves and may even flatten themselves entirely when engaging in a fight.
Also I will be continuing my long-eared Sandwing propaganda and no one can stop me :)

What if skywing were coloured based on the hotness of their fire?
Darker and red skywings are looked down upon and lighter yellow/white sky wings are treated better.
Blue skywings are treated almost like royalty and light blue ones are extremely rare.
Lighter white blue skywings are often mistaken for icewings by other dragons.
There hasn’t been a white blue skywing born in centuries, and they are talked about like angels.
(Btw all of these skywings are free adopts! Y’all can ask for one :)

Thanks all for the compliments and I hope the ppl who got the adopts enjoy! <3

Was originally going to shade this but I added the eye sparkle and just did not want to continue.
Anyways I’m resurrecting the “alternate DoD au” for the umpteenth time. Also just kind of wanted to make an artfight reference for Arroyo as I like their design the most.
Anyways some notes about my sandwing design
-The little “cobra hoods” as well as sails and wing doo-dads are used for letting off heat and keeping cool. Not every single sandwing has them, but it’s not a rare trait.
-The square scales along their back and legs are thick and rubbery; meant to protect from potential stings. I also HC that sandwings are partially immune to their own venom. Fatality is rare, but bad stings can still make them pretty sick.
-I’m still jungling the HC that the Sandwings breathe lightning/a mix of fire and lightning instead of just fire. It’s just kind of strange that (so far) their is no tribe in WOF that breathes lightning/has lightning powers (I feel like WOF follows follows some of the bigger fantasy world building tropes, so it’s just kind of odd not to see that one). Also allusion to D&D blue dragon or whatever.
Also here’s some of their baby pictures, both from September 2021

Unsorted WOF thoughts part 255:
I just had a lightbulb moment.
Why would Palm name her daughter Onyx? The Eye of Onyx was a well-known item in the SandWing Treasury, and Palm didn't want her daughter to have anything to do with the throne.
Consider this:
Onyx named herself that.
Which might imply:
Transfem Onyx.

I wonder if Glory ever got sick from not having enough fruit in her diet. Maybe she was thin and sickly from getting none of the needs specific to RainWings. I wonder if she ever spent long nights under the mountain throwing up into the river, before sneaking back into the sleeping cave. Maybe she learned how to camouflage from when she had to avoid the other dragonets seeing her if she woke them up. Maybe they did eventually find out and Sunny, knowing she's the favorite, started asking Dune and Webs for more fruit and berries as treats. None of the other dragonets actually ate their's, it all went to Glory. It didn't help much but Glory felt a lot better on days when she had gotten some fruit. Maybe part of the reason she kind of liked her prison in the Sky Kingdom was that she was never sick.

I made egg designs for the 7 wof tribes! I did my best to make them as “evolutionary accurate” as I could, but they’re mostly just all my headcanons :)
I’m making some hybrid eggs so if anyone has any suggestions feel free to ask!

Everyone wants a pirate Seawing oc but no one wants to work out how piracy works in wof you can't tell me that the dragons are building and boats and robbing other dragons who are also on boats.
I imagine that after Pantala is discovered Seawing criminal groups start targeting travelers and creating hideouts in underwater caves and on islands that are off the grid. Maybe even targeting merchants and selling their stuff in the Scorpion's Den or other places at high costs
Most are missing limbs, eyes and are heavily scarred due to service in The army from a young age. They many missed out on an education because of the war or just out a shitty one with Coral whole thing about them focusing on her scrolls over actual important subjects. Most Pirates are ex- military after the war left them scarred and with PTSD or missing a home they joined pirate organizations that offered better pay. Many feel that they would be better with criminals than under the Seawing monarchy. Many deserted so we're already considering criminals.
The islands they live in are hard to find and are rumors to be protected with Animus magic.
The world Pirate comes from the ancient Pantala language a combination of the words" sea" and "robber" in the language or just a word used to describe Seawing criminals.
I will post more about this when my OCS go up because Seawing pirates can be so much cooler then the fandom make them out to be.

Nightwings, Draco melanoalatus
While they may appear to be pure black-scaled at first, Nightwings have lots of color deep in their scales that appear in the light. Blues, purples, greens, and many other colors shine through.
They are based on gargoyles mainly, and are known to stand so still that they can be compared to one. (Also bats, condors, and owls.) They are the only tribe that shows reverse countershading, with a lighter back and a dark underbelly, so they more easily blend into the night sky from below. They commonly have dark spots and stripes to break up their silhouette even more. Just like icewings, they have folds and layers to their wings to make their wingbeats quiet like an owl.

Younger and older Freedom version :] 💖
Hi y’all I got busy in college and don’t have time to post until now lol
Anyway I did read all of the books in third arc except the dragonslayer one 😭 and i rlly enjoy the part where Freedom was in! I wish we can get more from her haha
Anyway I decided to have fun with her design! Since the book mentioned her eyes r kinda similar to rainwing so I imagine she was leaf/rain so that’s why she have these neat frills plus it’s one of my au hc that ancient leafwing and rainwing would have these until it faded away as it became rarer hehe
