SHORT PREVIEW:
══════*.·:·.✧ ✦ ✧.·:·.*══════
you pull away from jake, panting, trying to catch your breath. you hear him breathing in the same pace as yours, and your brain short-circuits for a moment. you couldn’t believe what the hell just happened.
who the fuck leaned in first?
was it me? him?
and why did i enjoy it so much?
“s-shit, i…” you try to say, clearing your throat. you weren’t so sure what to say after that. wow? you’re an amazing kisser. we should do this more often! oh no you would sound insane. but then again, you were never even sane in the first place.
jake continues to stare at you, still trying to catch his breath. he looks at the unfinished project beside you, biting his bottom lip to keep himself from smiling. you notice this, raising an eyebrow, “what are you smiling about? is this funny to you? we just—“
“yes. we just made out. in my bed.” he cuts you off, looking you in the eye once again. you wanted to look away, growing shy under his gaze, but you find yourself not doing so. “didn’t think you were capable of that. always thought you were the saving yourself after marriage type of girl.”
your eyes widen in surprise, pushing him off. “e-excuse me! you act like you just fucked me in your mattress, which you didn’t, and we won’t ever do!” partially a lie. now that he mentioned it, you couldn’t stop thinking about that scenario now after that incredible almost experience. “and besides, i am that type of girl. i have huge respect for myself.”
jake smiled even wider at your response, “right. i’m not saying you don’t. but i gotta say, i wouldn’t mind doing that again.”
did you hear that correctly? did he just say he wouldn’t mind doing that again?!
well, to be fair, you honestly wouldn’t mind either.
you shake your head, “oh, shove off! let’s pretend that never happened. keep that between us.” you point a finger towards him, “say a word to anyone else and i will cut your balls off. that isn’t a threat, it’s a promise.”
“oh y/n, i know better than to disobey you.” jake replied, holding your hand in his and pressing a kiss to the finger you pointed at him. you could see the mischievous glint in his eye and you wanted nothing more than to slap (kiss, no, scratch that) smirk off his face, but that would mean you were in the losing round in a game that was never played in the first place.
not yet at least. oh god, what the hell were you thinking?
you gulp quietly, nodding at him, and quickly turned to the project in front of you. “right. we’re finished with our short break, l-let’s continue working. we’re not nearly done with this.” great. distract yourselves from what happened. that’s a good idea. put it all behind you and him.
you couldn’t exactly look him in the eye when saying that, so you could probably guess all that jake heard from you was blah blah blah. fortunately for you, jake hummed beside you and continued to work, acting completely oblivious (or so you’d like to assume) to what you were feeling right now.
once you went home, you were going to spend the whole night thinking about this. not just about what happened, but what jake responded to your embarrassing outburst.
“right. i’m not saying you don’t. but i gotta say, i wouldn’t mind doing that again.”
now why on earth would he say that to you?

Hehe hello everyone! Imma just say it right away, I’ll be inactive for.......idk how long. Life is just going rough and honestly my mind is all over the place and I need time to get back on track. This would mean that I’ll focus more on my mental and physical health along with academics. I would still try and log into my account everyday, so that I won’t go off radar for months or anything (hopefully). There are chances that I’ll use a new account (or completely switch), because ngl I was about to deactivate months ago but kept the account for the sake of memories lol. So yea if I’m inactive for a long time, it could be one of the cases I mentioned before.
Idk how many you’ll will see this so I’m just tagging the moots I talk frequently to @moonsclover @woniehugs @en-ternity @postalenha @maplecornia @themoonlightin

══════*.·:·.✧ ✦ ✧.·:·.*══════
the clock seemed to tick so slowly, and all you wanted to do was rip your head off out of boredom. mrs. smith had been droning on and on about physics for half an hour now. you had been listening of course, but only for the first 30 minutes before your mind drifted away.
midterms were coming up. you couldn’t wait to get it over with, looking forward to the week-long break ahead. you were exhausted, or no, that didn’t seem like the right word. you just didn’t feel like following your usual routine anymore.
wake up. go to school. listen to discussions. write notes. study. go home. study again. finish writing notes. review them. sleep. and the cycle repeats.
life had always been like that for you for as long as you could remember, maybe even since you were born.
now, you were burned out. or maybe just bored. yep, that seemed like the right word for it. just straight-ass bored. you wanted to deviate from your daily routine. anything to keep your mind off of everything, especially academics.
you knew you were doing well. you barely had to worry. you were more-so worried about your nonexistent sex life. for the past few months, you’d been really craving for some action. not out of peer pressure of course. you weren’t so sure if it just had something to do with realizations of a teenage girl or if someone just accidentally poured a dose of viagra in your drink when you first went to a club all by yourself. tons of overthinking happening there. that was months ago, so there was no way the drug could’ve lasted that long.
you’re not so sure who you are anymore, to be honest.
nonetheless, the truth is that you were a horny teenage girl who craved some action. no one in your school could have ever guessed that since you’re the goodie two shoes who’s almost always the top of her class and puts on extra work to earn extra credits from teachers. that excited you in some way. no one else knew about that fact but you.
at last, the bell rang. mrs. smith ended the discussion right on time (you weren’t listening anymore. did she say anything about laws of conservation of energy?). standing up from your chair, you quickly packed your things and left the classroom, on your way to the the soccer field. your safe haven, you’d like to call it.
why there? well, because the cafeteria was too crowded for your liking. you were claustrophobic (you just hated everyone). you loved being alone anyway, and you’ve always went there to eat lunch because it was peaceful and windy outside, unlike the cramped canteen that smelled of sweat and food so disgusting you would not dare put in your mouth again.
passing by some of your favorite teachers, you greeted them with a smile on your face.
you never liked being known as the ‘teacher’s pet’, because it made you seem like you were only close with the teachers for extra credit, when in reality, you really were just a friendly person. people just liked to talk and all. at this point in your life, you really just didn’t care anymore and let them say whatever they wanted to say. as long as they aren’t going anywhere near you, you’re sure you’ll survive this school year (like previously) just fine.
once you arrived outside, you sat yourself on one of the bleachers, the middle part to be more precise. you quietly ate your lunch, looking out on the field. the only sound audible was the clanking sound of your utensils. it was mostly empty, except…
a familiar figure caught your eye in the middle of the field.
munching on your food, you squint your eyes to try to make out who it was. a part of you was a 100% sure it was one of the school’s soccer players since he wore a jersey with a number and his last name on it.
05 sim
oh. you knew exactly who that guy was.
sim jaeyun. everyone in school calls him jake. right, everyone knows him. you’d be surprised if there was someone who doesn’t unless they were a transferee. jake was one of the few guys high school girls disgustingly swooned over. apparently, he was everything a girl could ever want.
looks? check. intelligence? check. height? slightly. athletic? check. hot voice? double check. sex god? triple check. or so that’s what you heard from those giggling girls that hangout near your locker every after class.
you didn’t get the appeal at first, especially since you thought he was just a good old nice guy who happened to be one of those who accidentally became popular because his looks. based on rumors, it turned out you were completely wrong.
you hate to admit it but as time passed, you did eventually find him attractive (and still do). you could see why everyone liked him. now that you wished you could feel what it’s like to be well taken care of by a guy who could not only make everything in your life better but also fuck the living daylights out of you, you couldn’t help but imagine jake being that guy.
“oh what the fuck am i thinking.” you muttered out loud, shaking the thoughts out of your head. you couldn’t believe you were having those kinds of thoughts while eating lunch and staring hard at jake.
you gaslit yourself into thinking it was fine and totally normal since he was the only guy you found good looking in your school, and happened to be in your view. you could eat him up if you wanted to—
god not again.
mentally praying to god to forgive you for those intrusive unholy thoughts you were having, you shut your lunchbox shut and grabbed your things. trying (a bit too hard) not to drop them, you scurried off and out of the soccer field, hurrying back inside the school to pull yourself together.
because what kind of girl, especially who everyone thinks is “innocent”, thinks of having sex with a guy, who probably isn’t even aware of her existence, and way out of her league, while eating lunch? you were definitely going insane.
“i need therapy.” you whined quietly to yourself, clutching your things tighter to your chest.
you were completely oblivious to jake catching a glimpse of you ever since you walked into the field. it was definitely better that you didn’t know about that because god knows what worse things you would’ve thought if you knew and stared right back at him too.
• • •
you weren’t so sure if god was by your side or against you at this point. was he secretly listening to your secret unspoken prayers of having an opportunity to talk to the one guy you’ve been thinking about (unnecessarily too distracted. you only ever pass by him in the hallways) for weeks? or did he just want to see you suffer for having sinned and going against what you were supposed to believe in?
you aren’t a very religious person, but you sure are debating now if you should become one.
because sim jaeyun is sitting right next to you in class, looking a bit too good-looking with his stupid ruffled hair and plump lips, since when did he have such clear skin and luscious hair?
life was so unfair. unfairingly amazing. this is one of the few moments where you silently thanked god.
two weeks after midterms, classes officially started for the final term. you were more than prepared and a bit excited to receive your grades, knowing you did well in the exams. what you weren’t prepared for was how sim jaeyun entered your classroom, with his bag slung over his shoulders, your teacher introducing him to the class, and how he’ll be moving to this classroom due to his excellent grades and performance during the midterms.
what the fuck. that’s all you were thinking the whole time your adviser was talking, while jake stood beside her in front of the class with that ridiculously handsome grin on his face. you weren’t so sure what to feel. pissed? relieved? thank the heavens above that this god of a man can finally know about your existence?
you shake your head, realizing you’ve been staring too long at your new seatmate before you turned your attention back to the board and listen. this was it. maybe god really did answer your prayers and provided you with the opportunity to do whatever you wanted for the past couple months. on a silver platter. a full-course meal.
side-eyeing jake, he catches your stare and you immediately look to the front again. why’s he staring at me? is there something on my face? why’d he have to have that look? it’s so annoying. please look away. you mentally ranted, tapping one foot lazily against the ground.
the entire session, you didn’t try to look at him again after that. however, that didn’t mean you weren’t thinking about him the whole time.
• • •
“y/n.”
were you daydreaming again? why’s jake saying your name in the middle of biology? you really should’ve slept earlier last night. you quietly blame the caffeine that was slowly leaving your system for this hallucination.
“pst. y/n.”
you blinked twice, slowly turning your head to your seatmate. okay, so he was calling you. that was a first. and hopefully not the last.
jake leans towards you and you felt your heart lurch a bit in your chest. god, y/n, pull yourself together! this is the first time you’ve interacted. you better not mess this up.
“i just wanted to ask if you had an extra pen? mine just ran out of ink, and mr. lewis is about to move on to the next slide.”
blah blah blah, proper name place name, backstory stuff. that’s all you were hearing in your head.
his voice really did sound sexy with that australian accent laced in it.
nodding your head at him, you open your pencil case to lend him a pen you didn’t use yet. it was your favorite brand. you would never let anyone else use it. but if it’s jake? you can buy him all your favorite pens in the world if it meant hearing him ask from you every day.
“here you go. you can have it.” simp. that’s what you were, and nothing has even happened yet. you like to cling to that thin string of hope that maybe something could bloom from this small exchange.
jake gives you a smile, as he took the pen from you. you feel his hand linger against yours for a bit before he pulls away. “really? thanks. i appreciate it.” he goes back to writing his notes on his notebook, and you take notice of the way he bites his bottom lip in concentration and squinting his eyes to see the slides on the screen better.
as for you, you were still listening of course, but also thinking about how you’d never have to squint your eyes or try too hard to see how charming sim jaeyun really is.
although, maybe you could try a bit harder if you wanted to test his and your bed chemistry in the near future.
• • •
no. it’s final. you’re going to die a virgin.
the old you would’ve never saw this as something bad or sappy since you didn’t really give a shit about that type of stuff. well, time has passed, things have changed.
“what on earth is wrong with me?!” you grabbed your hair in frustration, throwing a little tantrum in your bedroom. you’ve just finished doing your homework for the day and some extra reading for your literature class.
a month has passed since you’ve started interacting with jake, and you’ve been putting meaning in every single interaction you’ve had which was not helping with your little crush on him.
”i’ve seen you around. i hear teachers talk about you in the faculty all of the time.” so you knew about my existence before we interacted? you definitely like me.
”careful, pretty. there’s some freshmen fooling around in the hallways.” he thinks i’m pretty? full-on delulu mode.
”mrs. smith was looking for you. something about you passing an extra page of solutions way beyond the lessons discussed.” or was he finding an excuse to talk to you? those solutions were done out of boredom anyway.
”you prefer listening, don’t you? or do you just not want to talk to me?” are you kidding? i do want to to talk to you. i just prefer listening to your australian accent. besides, i could do something better with this mouth of mine.
not that you’ll ever admit any of those things out loud.
“no. i do not have a crush on him. i’m just ovulating.” you convince yourself, pacing around your bedroom in small strides. you clearly weren’t convincing yourself very well either. who ovulates for months?
was it still even considered a crush when there isn’t even a time in the day where you don’t think about all the things you would let him do (god would be disappointed) if you just talked to him first? listening was not going to get you anywhere. he might not approach you anymore.
you did not want that to happen.
at the end of your pacing session, you stopped being in-denial and come into terms with your feelings. not only were you extremely attracted to jake, but you also wanted to get laid. who else to do the job for you other than the sim jaeyun who definitely looks like he’d do an amazing job?
that gave you a new goal for this school year.
you opened your notes app on your phone and typed it out.
GOALS FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR:
- finish the school year maintaining my rank as a top student.
- fuck sim jaeyun. (badly want to be done!!!)
• • •
the buzz of chatter filled the classroom as mrs. smith talked about having a demonstration project that showcased the principles of electromagnetism. the whole term will be given for everyone to work on the project and present it before the final term exams.
a classmate raised their hand, asking if it will be done individually since it sounded like a huge project to do alone. for you though, you wouldn’t mind if that was the case.
mrs. smith smiled sweetly, motioning for them to put their hand down. “that was the next thing i was going to say. the project will be done in pairs. before any of you ask, i’ll be the one to choose your pairs. i have a list right here.”
you bit your lip in anticipation, the groans and complaints of your classmates filled the room. a part of you was nervous about who your partner will be because it was highly likely that you’ll be doing the project all by yourself.
unless…
mrs. smith started naming the list of project partners and you feel your heartbeat start to speed up when you realize your name wasn’t called yet, and half the class already was.
you kept your gaze on the board, barely listening anymore until…
“and last but not the least, sim jaeyun and y/n l/n.”
your pulse quickened at the sound of jake’s name. whispers and mutters could be heard among your classmates the moment both of your names were called. “isn’t that cheating, ma’am? you’re pairing two of the best students together!” one of your classmates blurted out, earning a few laughters.
that was a compliment you could take.
“i promise you, macky dear, the pairs were chosen randomly.” mrs. smith replied, assuring the class that everything was fair and square, even though you were also debating in your head if it really was.
you peek a glance over at jake, just as he turned and caught your eye. he gave a small nod and a friendly smile, sending your thoughts into a spiral. a huge part of you was excited, but a small part also was making you feel nervous of spending time alone with him outside of school.
mrs. smith turned her wrist to look at her watch, “alright. i’ll give you the rest of the period to discuss with your pairs. go on, everyone. chop chop!” oh god, this is it. you thought, mentally preparing yourself for what you were going to say. you needed to take the lead or you were going to go insane.
a screech of the chair against the tiled floor snapped you out of your thoughts, eyes widening a bit when you realize jake had moved his chair closer to your desk. you keep yourself compose, clearing your throat and dusting off imaginary dust off your uniform.
“hey again.” jake greeted with a grin, pushing his hair back, “have any thoughts on what we could do for this project?”
darn that gorgeous hair. “hey to you too.” a hint of a smile tug on your lips, mentally giving yourself a pat in the back for staying composed. “well, i was thinking we could build a model on electromagnetic induction. per se a simple generator that shows how changing magnetic fields can produce electricity.”
jake nodded thoughtfully, resting his chin on his hand. “i like it. we could even add a small light bulb to show when it’s working. as for materials, we’d need some copper wire, magnets, and maybe a hand crank.”
you blinked twice in amazement, finding yourself drawn in by the way he explained things. jake’s voice was steady and confident, and you couldn’t help but notice the easy charm in the way he carried himself, how his eyes seemed to sparkle when he talked about physics.
“i can get the copper wire and magnets. i know a shop downtown that has them.”
“perfect.” jake replied, his lips curling into a half-smile that made the room a little warmer (why were you sweating), and your thoughts wander to places you probably shouldn’t let them go.
“i’ve got some spare parts from my dad at home that we can use for the base and crank.” you wondered if his voice would sound different in a more private setting, if he’d be as confident about things that had nothing to do with physics.
okay there, y/n. hold your horses.
nodding away your intrusive thoughts, you force yourself to stay in topic and keep the conversation going. “so, when do you want to start? i’m free whenever.”
jake leaned back slightly against his seat, putting his hands behind his head. you clench your hands into fists about how incredibly hot you were feeling right now. why did him doing the barest of minimums make you feel like you were going to explode?
the thoughts. put them at the back of your mind. we’ll think about the way his biceps flexed against his uniform later. just not now of all times!
“hm, how about this weekend? we could work at my place.” you squeaked, grateful that jake didn’t seem to notice your reaction. “it’s quieter, and i’ve got a good setup and place for projects.”
“y-your place?” you repeated, mentally cursing yourself for stuttering. a mix of excitement and nerves running through your veins. this was totally it for you. “sure, that works for me. saturday afternoon?”
jake’s glance held yours for a moment longer before nodding, “yep. saturday’s good. can you give me your phone number? i’ll text you the address.” without a second thought, you gave him your phone number with ease. you were totally keeping things professional.
after he texts you the address, you changed his contact to his name. “i’ll be walking my dog before we get to work though. hope that’s fine with you.” jake mentions all of a sudden.
“no problem at all.” you assure him, having found a new interest at the mention of his dog. “what’s your dog’s name?”
“layla. she’s a border collie.” jake sits up from his chair, smiling even wider with the fact that you asked about his dog. “she’s a sweetheart, you’ll love her. you’ll see her this weekend, and don’t worry, she doesn’t bite.”
you let out a sarcastic scoff, “hardly doubt that. i have severe trust issues. the last time i tried petting someone else’s dog, i ended up with a huge bite on my wrist. definitely not something i would want to risk experiencing again.”
jake laughs, “really? that’s insane! i’ve never seen dogs that aggressive before.”
“when you meet a shih-tzu, you’ll understand.”
“trust me, layla’s really nice. she likes meeting new people and can get really clingy once she gets to know them.”
you smile, “we’ll see about that.”
with the project plans settled, there was a brief silence before you spoke up again, not wanting the conversation to end just yet. it was now or never.
“you’re pretty good at this kind of stuff. physics, I mean,” you started. “have you always been into it?”
jake shrugged, a hint of a grin on his lips. “i guess I’ve always liked figuring out how stuff work. always have, though most people just know me for soccer.”
that was true.
“soccer and science,” you teased lightly. “that’s a combination you don’t see every day.”
“yeah, well,” he said, leaning in slightly, “what about you? you’re always at the top of the class. do you ever get tired of being the overachiever?”
you laughed, a little caught off guard by the question, but you’re glad he seems to want to keep the conversation going too. “i guess,” you shrugged, “i’m used to aiming for the top in everything. but honestly, i’m kind of hoping for a little more excitement this year.”
jake’s gaze lingered on you, and you couldn’t help but wonder if he could tell that there was more to your words than you were letting on. that was something you’ll never know for now.
you tuck a strand of your hair behind your ear (not on purpose ofc), growing shy under his gaze and looking anywhere else but his face. “so, besides physics and soccer, is there anything else you’re secretly amazing at?” you asked with a playful grin.
jake raised an eyebrow, a spark of humor in his eyes. “well, if I tell you, then it won’t be a secret, will it?” he smirked before adding, “but, fine… i make a mean instant ramen. like, gourmet-level stuff. think: chopped scallions, the works. not to brag or anything, but i can easily add a soft-boiled egg without breaking it.”
you try to hold in your laughter at jake’s randomness but failed miserably. “how fancy. i guess that means you’re ready to survive college. instant ramen mastery is a pretty big deal.”
he chuckled, leaning in as if sharing a secret. “yeah, i’m prepared for all those ‘late-night study sessions,’ if you know what I mean.” his tone carried a hint of innuendo, just enough to send a jolt of heat to your cheeks.
guess those rumors of him being a natural flirt were true after all.
you tried to keep your composure, fiddling with your pen to distract yourself, and dropped it on your desk. “late-night study sessions, huh? you shot back, trying to match his teasing tone. “i hope you’re as good at cramming… as you are at cooking.”
jake blinked, momentarily taken aback by your response before breaking into a laugh. “touché,” he said, his grin widening as he looked at you. “you know, you’re cute when you get all bold like that.”
there he goes again. the way he said it, like he was genuinely amused and maybe a little impressed, made your pulse quicken once again. there was something thrilling about the way he could fluster you so effortlessly, and the fact that you’d managed to catch him off guard, even for a moment, made it all the more fun.
gosh, you could hardly believe yourself right now. you let out a laugh, shrugging it off.
“don’t worry, y/n. I’ll keep my late-night ramen skills to myself… for now.”
you giggled, shaking your head. “deal. but if you really want to impress me, you’ll have to show off those ramen skills eventually.”
jake bit his bottom lip and chuckled. you could see a glint of playfulness still in his eyes, “we’ll see,” he said softly. it was a shock you haven’t said anything that would scare him away, thankfully.
WHAT THE HELL. STOP BITING YOUR LIP!
the playfulness in his eyes made it hard to look away, and for a moment, it felt like you were already friends. more than that, even (delulu). It was an easy kind of chemistry, one that made you wonder how many more conversations like this you’d have in the weeks to come.
ugh, i still got a long way to go, and you’re barely even getting there, y/n.
you cleared your throat, breaking the moment before it could get too intense. “well, i should probably start listing down other of the materials that we need,” you said, a hint of reluctance in your voice.
jake’s smile softened, and he gave a small nod. “right. we can’t slack off, can we?” he handed you your pen and notebook from your desk before you could. he steals a glance at you for a moment before dragging his chair back to its proper place. “i’ll see you saturday then. don’t be late, layla hates it when people keep her waiting.”
you laughed and waved him off. “I wouldn’t dream of it.”
someone from the other side of the room calls jake, catching his attention. he nods at them, turning to you and nodding once. he stands up from his chair, giving you one last smile as he heads to their direction. you feel your cheeks heat up at his departure.
as soon as jake is out of your vision, you couldn’t help but feel a little giddy, smiling to yourself. the rest of the class continued chatting on around you, but it all seemed muted compared to the pulse in your ears. if today was any indication, working with him was going to be… interesting, to say the least. you’re partnered with sim jaeyun for goodness sake.
as you jotted down the materials list, you couldn’t help but sneak another glance at him across the room. this was just the beginning. you had a lot more planned than just a physics project.

you hadn't planned on ending up in jake’s room that night, let alone on his bed. but there you were, heart racing as his lips moved against yours, each kiss growing deeper and more urgent. the project lay abandoned on the desk, your notebooks and papers forgotten the moment he pulled you closer, his hands firm on your waist.
the rush of it all, the heat of his touch, the way he whispered your name—made your head spin, drowning out the voice in the back of your mind warning you to slow down. it felt good to lose yourself in the moment, to let go of the pressures and expectations for once. but just as your hands moved to trace the lines of his jaw, a sudden surge of doubt stopped you cold.
"jake, wait," you breathed, pulling back and putting a hand on his chest to create some space. "w-we need to talk about this first."
he froze, his dark eyes searching yours, still catching his breath. "what else is there to talk about? we’re on the same page, aren’t we?” jake said softly, his voice tinged with uncertainty.
“we are… i think.” you whispered out the last part, looking away from jake and sitting yourself up on his bed as he gives you some space to do so. you wrap your arms around your legs, “but i just want to make sure. it’s best we know what we want from each other, right?”
jake tilts his head at you, and to be frank, you found the action quite adorable, if it weren’t for his messy hair, swollen lips, and cheeks tinted red. now, he just looks like something out of one of your daydreams. that was all your doing, you were acutely aware of it.
he gives you a small smile, brushing his hand through his hair. "of course. just want to make sure of something real quick." his tone was casual, almost teasing, but there was something in his eyes—something that made you wonder if he was just as conflicted as you were.
you opened your mouth to ask, but then jake leaned in and kissed you again, catching you off guard. it was different this time—softer, as if asking for permission. you felt the world tilting, his warmth pulling you back into the moment despite your doubts.
when he pulled away, you found yourself breathless once more, your heart pounding against your ribcage.
"well?" he said with a crooked smile. "you didn't hate that, did you?"
nah. do it again please.
you rolled your eyes to hide the fluttering in your chest, but you couldn't ignore the truth in his words. "no, i didn't," you admitted, voice barely a whisper.
drawing in a deep breath, you sat up straighter, steeling yourself. “jake, if we’re going to do… whatever this is, there has to be some rules.”
he raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement flickering in his eyes. “rules? are we signing a contract now?” jake teased, but his tone remained light, like he was testing the waters.
you shot him a look, resisting the urge to laugh. “i’m serious,” you said, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear. “i’m gonna be straight with you. i’m not really looking to jump into a relationship, not ready for all that right now. so, whatever this is—” you gestured between the two of you, “—it’s strictly casual.”
jake’s lips twitched into a smirk, his gaze never leaving yours. “you sound like you’ve been planning this for a while. should i be worried?”
there was a bit of (no. whole.) truth in his words, and you weren’t really sure if you’ll ever admit it to him, especially not this early on. “you’ll have to find out on your own.”
“strictly casual,” he echoed, leaning back slightly on his hands. you’re grateful that he decided to let the previous question slide. “got it. so, no swooning over me in the halls, writing love poems, or any of that cringey stuff?”
you couldn’t help but roll your eyes, though the corner of your mouth twitched upward. “get off your high horse, jake. but exactly. no expectations, no labels. just… this.” you said, letting your voice trail off as you tried to find the right words. “we don’t let it interfere with anything else, and we definitely don’t make it more complicated than it needs to be.”
jake tilted his head, his expression turning thoughtful. “alright, no complications. but what if i buy you a coffee one day? is that off-limits, or are casual coffee dates allowed?”
a small laugh escaped you. “casual coffee is fine,” you conceded. “just don’t call it a date.”
“noted.” jake leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a low murmur. “and if i kiss you again, like right now, does that fall under ‘strictly casual,’ too?”
your breath hitched, but you held your ground. “as long as we both know it doesn’t mean anything,” you replied softly. “and it ends the moment one of us says so.”
jake’s smirk softened as he studied you, his eyes flickering with something that felt like curiosity, or maybe a hint of a challenge. he moved closer, his fingers tracing light circles along your arm. the touch was casual, but it sent a shiver through you, making it harder to stay focused.
“i’m assuming casual means i can still do... this." his fingers skimmed up your arm to your shoulder, a faint smile tugging at his lips when you didn't pull away.
you swallowed hard, trying to keep your voice steady. "it means no strings attached, jake. no acting like we're something we're not." you caught his gaze, determined to keep the conversation on track even as your heart pounded in your ears. "we don't get jealous. we don't make this complicated."
he tilted his head, looking at you with that familiar glint of mischief. "and if i happen to like having you all to myself for a night?" he asked, his thumb brushing against the side of your neck now. "that doesn't count as jealousy, does it?"
you almost laughed, shaking your head as you placed a hand on his chest, more to keep him from getting any closer than to push him away. "as long as you don't start acting possessive or territorial, i think we're good," you said, your tone light but firm.
"this isn't supposed to be some dramatic thing. we’re just two people who enjoy each other's company. that’s it."
jake’s hand slid down to your waist, resting there as he considered your words. "alright," he said slowly, "no drama. no jealousy." he let his fingers trace the hem of your shirt, his touch warm against your skin. "but if i call you over to see you and talk, that's still within the rules, right?"
you hesitated, feeling his hand slip just slightly under the fabric, his touch making your skin tingle. "it depends on what you want to talk about when you call me over," you replied, your voice lower now.
a smirk tugs at the corner of jake’s lips as he moved closer, his hand drifting from your waist down to your hip, his fingers tracing the curve there. “what if i want to do more than just talk?"
you felt the heat rise in your cheeks, but you held your ground. "if you're talking about hooking up, then sure. but I'm serious about keeping it simple. no mixed signals."
jake chuckled, the sound low in his throat as he leaned in closer, his lips grazing your ear. “so, if i told you that i’ve been thinking about fucking you since last saturday," he murmured, his hand slipping beneath the hem of your shirt, "that wouldn't be breaking any rules, would it?"
bingo.
your breath hitched, and you couldn't help the shiver that ran through you at his words.
"as long as you're not expecting any strings attached afterward," you shot back, trying to maintain your composure.
"i don't think I've ever heard you sound this serious before," he teased, leaning away from you. "it’s almost like you’re scared i’m going to break your little rules.”
he’s right. maybe you are scared. but who cares? that’s the reason why you set the rules. to set boundaries and not cross them. this was all just going to be a fun game for you (that you started) so you can have some excitement before you graduate. and what better way than to fool around with the hottest guy in school?
you pushed gently at his chest, keeping him at bay while still meeting his gaze. "i’m just making sure we're clear," you said. "i don't want either of us to get the wrong idea. if this starts to get messy, we stop. simple as that."
jake’s smile widened, a glint of mischief returning to his eyes. “good. because i’m not ready for all that relationship stuff, either,” he said, his tone earnest beneath the playful facade. “just two people having a little fun, right?”
“right,” you echoed, feeling a mixture of relief and nervous anticipation as you set the terms. it felt good to put some boundaries in place, to have some control over whatever was happening and about to happen between you.
“i’m allowed to touch you like this, right? because i gotta say, i’m kind of enjoying it."
“you’ve been doing it since earlier, jake, and i haven’t said a thing about it. what do you think?”
before jake could say anything more, you clap your hands together. "okay, then. we both know what we want from this," you said. "and we're not letting it interfere with anything else."
he gave a slow nod, his fingers still resting lightly on your skin. "agreed. and just so we're clear, i’m not saying i won’t keep wanting to kiss you like this," jake added with a playful glint in his eye. "but i’ll play by your rules."
you stood up, grabbing your bag from the floor and feeling the weight of the
agreement settle between you. "good. then i guess i’ll see you around. it’s getting late.” you said, turning to head to the door.
a thought suddenly stopped you, and you turned back to jake, meeting his gaze. “oh, and one more thing,” you added, voice firm. “i don’t want anyone else to know about this.”
jake’s lips curved into a small, knowing smile. “keeping me a secret already?” he teased, “don’t worry. i’m good at keeping things quiet, as long as you are.”
you felt a flutter of something at his words, but you brushed it aside, nodding once before finally turning to leave.
but before you could, jake caught your wrist, pulling you back in for one last kiss, slow and deliberate, like he was making a point of savoring it.
when he finally let go, his voice was a low murmur against your ear. "just don't forget to call me if you ever need to break the rules a little."
a thought lingered in your mind, wondering if “strictly casual” was going to be as simple as you’d hoped.
“i think you’ll be the first one to call out of the two of us.”
• • •
jake: hey, can we meet up?
you: but it’s so late? we have school tomorrow, jake.
jake: you said we could meet anytime.
you: well, yeah, but i didn’t think you’d also mean this late. i literally just finished doing homework :’)
jake: then i’ll come over to yours then.
you: you don’t know where i live???
upon reading jake’s message and realizing that he won’t be replying in the next 10 minutes, you dragged your chair across the tiled floor and ran to your closet, quickly rummaging through your clothes to wear something more appropriate.
you weren’t about to let jake see you in your home clothes that looked like lingerie since you’ve had these since you were a teenager, and you couldn’t care less about who’ll see you in those.
tonight was a different story.
“y/n, i told you not to drag your chair or stomp your feet so loud on the floor. we can hear it from down here!” your mom scolded, and you winced a bit at her tone.
“sorry mom! panicked a bit, and all…” you replied, your voice coming to a whisper at the end.
you picked out a pair of shorts and an oversized hoodie that covers up to your thighs. it definitely looked too big on you, but you also didn’t want jake to think you were desperate.
not that you were, of course. (you were)
it had only been three days since you and jake had the talk and set your boundaries if you both wanted to make this work. you’ve been a giddy mess ever since, always looking forward to seeing jake whether it was at school or not. at school, you would continue your usual routine of eating together at lunch and bringing the other to each other’s classes.
when the two of you were sure no one’s looking or that you were out of plain sight, jake’s hand would linger against yours for more than a few seconds, intertwining his pinky with yours, and you’d feel the ghost of a smile forming on your lips.
there was even a time after classes, you two had purposely got out of your rooms a bit later than usual, and before you could process what was about to happen, jake kissed you softly on the lips.
“i’ve been waiting to do that all day.” he whispered against your lips.
you touch your lips upon remembering the memory. you suddenly needed jake, right now, by your side, so badly. luckily for you, the heavens above seemed to listen to your prayers.
you heard a light knock outside your window, startling you. quickly putting on your hoodie, you grabbed your phone from your desk to see if jake had messaged you.
jake: i’m outside your window
your heart skipped a beat as you read jake’s message. hr was actually here, outside your window, in the middle of the night. you pulled on your hoodie, took a deep breath, and walked over to your window, heart pounding.
sliding the window open, you saw jake standing below, hands shoved into his pockets, his face lit by the glow of the streetlamp. he looked up, flashing you a grin that was both mischievous and a little sheepish.
“hey,” he whispered, a glint in his eye.
“what are you doing here?” you whispered back, trying not to sound too excited. “you’re insane, you know that?”
“maybe.” he shrugged, then glanced around, as if to check if anyone else was watching. “come down?”
you glanced back at your bedroom door, wondering if your parents were asleep yet. “if we get caught, we’re dead.”
jake smirked. “then we’ll just have to be careful, won’t we?”
you couldn’t help but smile back, the thrill of sneaking out making your pulse race. slipping on your shoes, you quietly tiptoed down the stairs, each step feeling like a mini victory against the silence of the house. finally, after what felt like an eternity, you slipped outside, and there he was, waiting for you with that same, soft smile.
you walked over to him, crossing your arms to fend off the night chill. “so, what’s the plan, mister ‘i-show-up-outside-your-window-at-midnight’?”
jake took a step closer, so close you could feel the warmth radiating from him. “no plan. just wanted to see you.” his voice softened, and for a moment, it felt like the world faded you
your breath hitched, and you suddenly felt like words were pointless. instead, you looked down, your fingers finding his, your hands intertwining naturally. you stood there, holding hands in the quiet night, as if there was no one else in the world but the two of you.
“how’d you know where i live anyway?” you ask, ignoring the butterflies you were feeling in your stomach. it was your first time experiencing something like this, and you weren’t so sure on what you should do. either way, the fact that jake came over to see you had you thinking of other things outside your original plan.
“you did mention before that you lived nearby. i also happen to catch you enter your house just one time because i was going around the neighborhood.” jake answered with a smile, and you swore you could die right then and there at the sight.
“that’s very stalker-ish of you, sim jaeyun.” you teased, “what would the others think?”
jake chuckles, “don’t really care. besides, it’s not like i was trying to figure out your address. like i said, i just happened to be there.”
a comfortable silence fell between the two of you. you’re surprised he hasn’t let go of your hand yet, and a part of you is glad that he hasn’t.
he glanced at your window again and raised an eyebrow. “so… mind if i come up?”
your eyes widened, but the thought of jake in your room sent a thrill down your spine. “are you serious? i literally just went down because you told me to.”
“well, unless you want your neighbors to keep watching me stand here,” he teased, nodding toward a window across the street where a curtain had just shifted slightly. “or we could always go somewhere. whatever you want.”
without another word, you took his hand and led him inside, carefully closing the door behind you and tiptoeing up the stairs. every step felt louder than it was, and your heart pounded as you reached your room. you nudged the door closed with your foot, feeling a strange mix of excitement and nervousness.
jake glanced around, taking in the cozy mess of books and clothes, the walls decorated with photos, and the fairy lights strung above your bed. “so, this is your space,” he said softly, his eyes meeting yours.
“yep, this is where the magic happens,” you joked, trying to calm the fluttering in your stomach.
jake chuckled, his gaze lingering on you. “magic, huh? maybe i should come over more often.”
you felt your cheeks warm, and before you could respond, he walked over to sit on your bed, patting the spot beside him. you joined him, sitting closer than you normally would, his knee brushing against yours.
a comfortable silence settled over you both. after a moment, he lifted your hand, intertwining his fingers with yours and gently tracing circles on your palm. “i’ve been thinking about you all day,” he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper.
you looked up at him, caught in his gaze. “yeah?”
“yeah,” he replied, his eyes softening as he leaned in. you felt his hand slide up to cup your cheek, and he kissed you, slow and gentle, as if savoring the moment. it was the kind of kiss that made everything else disappear.
when he pulled back, he rested his forehead against yours, both of you breathing softly. “i’ll probably get in so much trouble for sneaking out here,” he whispered, grinning.
you laughed quietly, your heart racing. “me too. but right now? i don’t really care.”
as you sat there, your faces close enough that you could feel his breath on your skin, jake leaned in again, deepening the kiss. his lips moved with a new intensity, and you could feel your heart racing in response, echoing the thrill coursing through your veins. you wrapped your arms around his neck, pulling him closer, his hands finding their way to your waist-his grip firm yet gentle, grounding you even as your head began to spin.
your fingers tangled in his hair, feeling the softness beneath your touch as his hands slipped from your waist to the small of your back, pressing you against him. the warmth of his touch seeped through the fabric of your hoodie, making your skin tingle beneath. his hand began to trail up your spine, hesitating slightly as if checking to see if you were comfortable. you responded by pressing even closer, your bodies fitting together as if they were always meant to.
a soft smile escaped his lips against yours, and you felt a rush of heat flood your cheeks. he began to trail kisses along your jaw, his lips brushing against sensitive skin, making you shiver involuntarily.
"you’re driving me crazy," he murmured against your skin, his voice low and sultry. the way he said it sent a thrill of desire coursing through you.
"maybe i like it," you replied, your voice barely above a whisper, the teasing tone escaping before you could fully consider the boldness of your words.
his hand moved back down, resting at your hip, while his other hand stayed at the nape of your neck. he gently massaged the spot there, his fingers dancing against your skin as he brought your face back to his for another deep kiss. you could feel the heat radiating between you, the urgency of the moment intertwining with the sweetness of your connection.
you both moved in sync, exploring each other's touch and finding that perfect rhythm together. each kiss, each caress felt like a promise, igniting something primal and raw within you. your breaths came faster, filling your quiet room with a soft, unspoken language, each touch and glance saying more than words ever could.
"god, I can't get enough of you," he breathed, his hands brushing up your sides, his touch igniting every nerve in your body.
"you make me want to do things I've never even thought about before."
the tension built with every second, electric and charged, making you ache for more. "is that so?" you teased back, feeling bold.
"what exactly do you want to do to me?" the challenge hung in the air, making your heart race even faster as you felt his eyes darken with desire.
"maybe I want to take my time," he replied, his voice deep and husky. "to feel every inch of you." his fingers slipped under the hem of your hoodie, brushing against your bare skin, igniting a spark that made you gasp softly.
"maybe i’d let you," you breathed, your voice breathy, filled with longing as his touch sent shivers down your spine. you could feel the heat pooling in your core, an ache that was becoming harder to ignore. "but only if you can handle it."
jake’s breath hitched, and a low, throaty chuckle escaped his lips. "oh, i can handle it, believe me." his hands trailed higher, brushing against the sides of your body, making you moan softly as the warmth spread through you.
eventually, both of you pulled back slightly, lips swollen, cheeks flushed. jake looked at you with a soft, almost awed smile, and you couldn't help but smile back, feeling both exhilarated and slightly dazed. "you’re incredible," he said, his voice a mixture of admiration and lust.
you rested your head against his shoulder, still holding onto him as if to keep yourself steady. "so are you," you whispered, feeling vulnerable yet safe in his embrace. "i never imagined it would feel like this with you."
"neither did I," he admitted, his fingers gently tracing patterns on your arm, sending warmth through you. "but i think we're just getting started, yeah?”
your heart raced at his words, anticipation swirling within you. you lifted your head to meet his gaze, the heat in the room palpable.
"then show me," you challenged softly, your voice laced with desire. "show me what you really want."
jake leaned in closer, the warmth of his body radiating against yours, his breath mingling with yours in the space between. "oh, i intend to," he murmured, his lips hovering tantalizingly close to yours, teasingly brushing against your mouth as if he were savoring the moment.
with a sudden burst of confidence, he captured your lips again, this time more fervently. you melted against him, the world around you fading as the kiss deepened into something more desperate. the sensation was electric, igniting a fire within you that begged to be fed. you could feel his hands roaming your back, fingers trailing down to the curve of your waist, pulling you even closer, as if he wanted to fuse your bodies together.
"tell me how it feels," he breathed between kisses, his voice thick with desire. "i want to hear you."
your heart raced at his request, the weight of his gaze making you feel exposed yet exhilarated. "it feels... amazing," you managed to gasp, feeling the warmth pooling in your stomach as you wrapped your arms tighter around his neck. "you make me feel things i didn't know i could."
a smirk played on his lips at your honesty, and he leaned in again, his lips trailing down your neck, sending shivers of pleasure coursing through you. "good," he whispered against your skin, his breath hot and inviting.
"because I want to make you feel so much more." his mouth found the sensitive spot just below your ear, and you couldn't help but moan softly, the sound reverberating between you, fueling the fire of the moment.
jake paused for a moment, lifting his head to look into your eyes, a mischievous glint dancing in his gaze. "what else do you want?" he asked, his voice low and teasing.
"because I want to give it to you."
you felt emboldened by the intensity of his gaze, the need in your chest surging. "i want you to take control," you said, your voice barely a whisper, thick with desire. "show me how much you want me."
his expression shifted, the playful glint replaced with something darker, more serious. "you asked for it," he replied, capturing your lips once more, the kiss turning urgent and demanding. his hands gripped your hips, guiding you to straddle his lap, the shift in position igniting a new wave of heat between you.
you gasped at the sudden closeness, feeling the unmistakable evidence of his desire pressing against you. "jake..." you breathed, the thrill of the moment making your head spin as your body instinctively moved against his.
"god, you're incredible," he murmured, his hands sliding down to your thighs, fingers digging in gently as he held you against him.
"i can't believe how much i want you." the raw honesty in his voice sent another jolt of heat through you, causing your breath to hitch.
"then don't hold back," you urged, the thrill of the moment overwhelming your senses. "i want all of you."
his eyes darkened with a mix of hunger and admiration as he took your face in his hands, his thumbs brushing against your cheeks.
"you’re making it hard to think," he said with a chuckle, his voice laced with desire. "but i’ll do my best." with that, he kissed you again, this time with a ferocity that left you gasping for breath, his hands moving to explore the curves of your body.
the kiss deepened, and you felt his tongue brush against your lower lip, seeking permission. you opened up for him, a soft moan escaping your lips as he tasted you, exploring the depths of your mouth with an intensity that left you dizzy. his hands continued their exploration, finding their way beneath your hoodie, fingers splaying against your bare skin, igniting sparks of pleasure with every caress.
"jake," you breathed, your voice tinged with desperation as his touch ignited every nerve ending in your body. "you’re driving me wild."
"i can't help it," he admitted, his voice desperate as he pressed his forehead against yours, his breath mingling with yours.
jake lifted you slightly, positioning you so that you were straddling his lap fully. the fabric of your shorts brushed against him, and you felt the unmistakable heat of his desire pressing against you. the sensation sent a thrill of excitement through you, and you instinctively ground down against him, your breath hitching as the friction intensified the ache building inside.
"god, yes," he groaned, his hands gripping your hips to guide your movements as you rocked against him. "just like that."
you met his gaze, feeling a mix of exhilaration and hunger as you continued to grind against him. each movement sent ripples of pleasure coursing through you, and you could feel the tension building as you found your rhythm. the room was filled with the sound of soft gasps and whispers, a language of intimacy that only you two understood.
"jake," you moaned, feeling the heat between you intensify. you leaned forward, capturing his lips again, your tongues dancing as the urgency of the moment escalated. his hands slipped beneath your hoodie, fingers grazing your skin, making you shiver with every touch. he groped your sides, fingers digging into your flesh as he held you against him, anchoring you in place.
"damn, you feel incredible," he breathed against your lips, his voice thick with desire.
you could feel him shift beneath you, pressing up into you with a delicious urgency that made you gasp. "i could get lost in you."
you smiled against his mouth, feeling emboldened by his words. "then get lost," you whispered playfully, your voice laced with challenge. you ground down harder, the friction igniting a fire in your core that made you moan softly, your body craving more of his touch.
jake responded immediately, his grip tightening on your hips as he guided you to move in a way that sent waves of pleasure crashing over you. "you have no idea what you do to me," he murmured, his lips trailing down your neck, planting soft kisses along your collarbone.
you reveled in the sensations, feeling your body respond eagerly to each of his movements. the heat built between you, a heady mix of lust and connection that made the world around you fade even further. "i think I'm starting to understand," you gasped, the pleasure nearly overwhelming as you continued to grind against him, lost in the rhythm.
"just don't stop," he urged, his hands gripping your thighs tightly, encouraging you to move faster, deeper. "you feel so good, y/n."
as you picked up the pace, the pressure in your lower belly grew, a delicious tension that left you breathless. each thrust against him sent jolts of pleasure coursing through you, and you couldn't help but moan louder, completely lost in the moment. the sounds of your bodies meeting, the soft gasps and murmurs, filled the room.
"jake, I'm so close," you panted, your breaths coming in quick gasps as you pressed against him, feeling the heat pooling deep within you. the combination of his hands on you and the friction between your bodies was driving you wild, each movement pushing you closer to the edge.
"me too," he admitted, his voice raw with need. "just a little more."
with every grinding motion, the world outside ceased to exist, leaving only the two of you, lost in each other, wrapped in heat and longing. you could feel the tension building, ready to snap, and you knew you were both teetering on the edge of something explosive.
"just let go," jake urged, his hands tightening on you, his voice low. “you can do it.”
with one last grind, you felt the wave of pleasure wash over you, crashing like a tidal wave as you moaned his name, completely lost in the moment. the sensations flooded through you, every nerve ending alive with pleasure as you clung to him, feeling the intensity of your connection as you both rode the waves of ecstasy together.
as the waves of pleasure began to settle, breathless and exhilarated, you rested your forehead against his. you both took a moment to catch your breath, the air still thick with intimacy. jake shifted under you, his expression softening as he reached for you. “hey,” he murmured, brushing a stray hair from your face, “you okay?”
you nodded, a smile creeping onto your lips as the afterglow washed over you. “y-yeah, that was amazing,” you replied, feeling a warmth spread through you at his concern.
jake leaned in closer, pressing a gentle kiss to your forehead. “i’m glad,” he said softly. he then settled you slowly on the bed before slipping out, moving towards the bathroom just near your desk. you could hear the sound of water running, and moments later, he returned with a damp washcloth.
“here, let me clean you up,” he offered, his voice warm and tender. as he gently wiped away the remnants of your encounter, you felt a rush of affection for him. hr moved with care, making sure you were comfortable, and you couldn’t help but smile at his thoughtfulness.
“thank you,” you said, feeling both cherished and secure. jake smiled back, his eyes sparkling with sincerity. once he was done, he tossed the cloth aside and climbed back into bed beside you, pulling you close into his embrace.
“i just want to make sure you’re okay,” he murmured, wrapping his arms around you protectively. you nestled against him, feeling safe and content.
you were definitely more than okay.

The Touch of Extinction
Tumblr media
—✧ summary: in a future plagued by a deadly virus, scientist Y/N is unexpectedly paired with the enigmatic government official, Lee Heeseung, as they work to save a fractured continent. What begins as a mission for survival transforms into an intense, forbidden connection, only to be shattered when Heeseung’s own secrets come to light. With danger lurking and time running out, the truth behind their mission and their connection unravels in ways neither could foresee. Will their shared sacrifice be enough to leave a lasting mark on the world they tried to save? This isn’t a love story, it’s a story about love.
—✧ pairing: lee heeseung x fem! reader
—✧ genre: dystopia, futuristic fiction, not really romance
—✧ warnings: mentions of blood and abuse (only brief), non-consensual sex, let me know if i missed anything!
—✧ word count: 4.3k
—✧ author’s note: putting this out here in the meantime because i’m not finished writing the next chapter for “operation: fuck sim jaeyun” yet. i wrote this for a school project, and no, i didn’t actually use y/n and heeseung’s names lmao. and also, this is actually inspired by the handmaid’s tail and manacled, so if you’re familiar of those, you’ll know.

Who would’ve thought the future would end up like this? We could never have predicted that life would slowly cease to exist.
50 years ago, in the country of Netherlands, a group of young and intelligent scientists from BioCorp worked on experiments that focused on enhancing human genetics. After much hard work, they had made vast progress, thanks to the advancement of technology over the years and took a week-long break to celebrate Christmas. However, during a hazy night on the 24th of December, the night of Christmas Eve, one of the scientists had gone inside the laboratory that contained their equipment and supplies, completely out of their mind— drunk. The scientist had accidentally knocked one of the containers used in their experiments, breaking each flask containing what seemed to him as “mystery fluid” and spilling it all over the laboratory floor.
Knocked backed into consciousness realizing what he had spilt, he panicked, and tried to clean it up before it could contaminate the entire room, but because of the state he was in, the broken flasks and test fluids had caught onto his dazed and drunken state, causing the scientist to drop on the floor, unconscious. It took 12 hours until the whole building was contaminated due to the open vents, notifying security and the other scientists about the situation.
Luckily, the scientist woke up the next day, completely healthy and well, which was a surprise. Authorities had brought him to the hospital, along with his colleagues who waited for him to wake up. While the other scientists continued working on the experiments a week after Christmas, they were stopped by the news of another colleague’s sudden death in the comfort of their own home, exactly a month after the laboratory incident. Days after, the scientist’s own wife was laid to rest on her deathbed, a month after she had made contact with her husband who had gone home from the hospital. This prompted BioCorp into a mass crisis. Taking multiple hours of rigorous research, studying, and hypothesizing, the scientists discovered that the incident had caused a new infectious virus to erupt. …Infectious, how? With the knowledge of the deaths of the scientist and his wife, the scientists concluded that the virus was transmitted by skin-to-skin touch and that the virus’s effect didn’t accelerate despite how much one has touched another infected person.
By the time the scientists had made this horrible discovery, hundreds and thousands of people had died in the lower parts of Europe. The virus had spread rapidly, with no one knowing who had it or didn’t. There weren't any symptoms showing and one could only know they had caught the virus when they had taken their final breath. The moment the Dutch government was made aware of this tragedy, they took in scientists from BioCorp, while in the meantime, putting the whole country on lockdown to protect the people from the virus and could conjure a cure. They supplied the scientists with everything they needed for their research, but as they did so, many Europeans died at their expense, the number of deaths increasing with every single day that passed. Choked up by guilt, the scientists persevered, but even so, they still had little knowledge of what they could do to solve the pandemic they had caused, and some died never seeing the day they could fix this mess.
Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months, and months turned into years, the European population dropped to an all-time low. Due to the pandemic, the continent of Europe was divided into two: the Eastern and Western Parts. A boundary was placed, dividing the Netherlands, Germany, France, Italy, and more countries in the eastern part, from the entire western part of Europe. A military base was placed upfront on the boundary to prevent anyone from trespassing. This sent the Netherlands government into turmoil, as the situation had not been handled well years prior, affecting their neighboring countries, most especially their own population.
The division wasn’t enough to make anything but a benefit. Soon, the governments of each country worked together and came up with a repopulation effort, a program attempting to revive the dying population. Women, from the lower class, and the ones who are single will be assigned to men and will bear children for them. Whether the men have wives and children is out of the question, they will still have to participate in the program. They will be monitored frequently by authorities if they have done the job, if not, a punishment shall be done. The selected women were quarantined in a prison-like building, yet still being fed well. However, because of how many of them were trying to escape the hell they had to go through, having to bear children they didn’t want with men they didn’t even know, the government grew strict and eventually became a totalitarian regime. For all the women, it was hell on Earth.
Y/N L/N, the daughter of one of the scientists who took part in the failed experiment, and followed in the footsteps of her parents, happened to be a part of the selected women for the repopulation program. With your last name at the forefront of people’s minds, “the daughter of one of those evil scientists who caused this animosity”, you get assigned to one of the higher-ranking government officials in Europe.
On your first meeting, you had been dragged by the authorities, hair secured in a bun at the base of your neck, wrists manacled behind your back, lip busted, one of your cheeks bruised purple, and your face bloody fighting off the authorities. You wore a robe as white as snow, streaks of your blood painted the areas near your waist, a skirt spreading down to your feet, and long sleeves covering your entire arms.
Screaming at the top of your lungs to let you go, the authorities pushed you until you fell to the ground, your face first hitting the ground with a loud crack. You heard the door close behind you, clicking with a lock as you groaned in pain, tears falling down her face. As you slowly tried to stand up from the ground, you hear a chair creak, someone standing up from their seat. You look up, coming face to face with the man you had to endure. Lee Heeseung, the son of the prime minister of the Netherlands. He had an unreadable look on his face, his eyes dark as he examined you carefully, looking you up and down. Filled with disdain, you gathered enough saliva and spat at his feet, a drop of spit landing perfectly on his polished shoe.
Before you could get any more disrespectful, you were brought up to your feet, Heeseung’s hand gripping your forearm as you yelped in pain. Dragging you across the room, he turned you around and pushed your body down on his desk, pressing your manacled wrists behind your back with one hand. You struggled to get out of his grip, trying to kick him but to no avail. He was too strong, and so much taller than you. You feel tears prickle on the corners of your eyes, one side of your face scraping against the wood of the table.
With your eyes shut, Get this over and done with, you think to yourself, hope slowly leaving your body as you count down the seconds until he is done with you. Barely 5 minutes had passed until he stopped moving, and as swift as a fox, backed away from you. You felt your wrists free from the manacles, and planted your palms on the table, slowly guiding yourself to stand up and turn to face him, but before you could utter a word to him, he was gone. Uncontrollable tears fell from your face then. You felt pain, disgusted, and used. Your whole world had been reduced to a room where you’d be forced to do things you didn’t want to do, and that hurt you. You could do better things than this. But no. For now, you fall back down on the ground, your body sprawled out on the floor as sleep takes you in.
You wake up the next day on a bed and in a room you don’t recognize. This wasn’t where I was yesterday, you think to yourself. Looking to your left, you see a doctor scribbling on his notebook with medical equipment laid out on a small table on top of the bed. The doctor notices you, a sad smile on his face, “How are you feeling, dear? You passed out on the floor yesterday and Mr. Lee had to carry you to your bed.”
Confused, you shake your head, “After being forced to do things against my will? Yes, I believe I’m feeling a lot better.” The doctor lets out a sigh, letting you drink your medicine before leaving your room quietly. You take in your room. It was huge and filled with everything she needed to survive this hellhole. Keeping yourself busy, you took a shower, changed into clean clothes, and read. There was a long shelf of books at the side of the room, so you grabbed everything that caught your eye. You read, and read, and read until you couldn’t anymore.
Food was served by two maids during breakfast, lunch, and dinner. When you asked if you could get out of your room, one of the maids answered that you needed to rest and could only get out the next day as said by their master. Rolling your eyes, you nodded your head, grabbed the dinner from their hands, and sat back on the bed. As you ate, you thought about how grateful you were that Heeseung hadn’t gone into your room and took advantage of you again. Peacefully, sleep takes you in once again when you finished eating.
The third day. “It’s not so bad here”, you think — yet. While you ate breakfast on your bed, the door opened. Your eyes looked up to see Heeseung close the door behind him. You feel your heart race, dropping the utensils on the plate. The sound catches Heeseung’s attention, quickly looking at you to see what’s wrong. He takes a few steps towards you but you raise a hand to stop him. “N-not yet.” you managed to speak out despite your voice and hands shaking. Heeseung shakes his hand, and continues his way toward you, “I’m not here for that. Not this early, at least.” Releasing a breath you didn’t realize you were holding, you nod at him in relief, picking your utensils up to continue eating. You feel his eyes on you the entire time, hands trembling.
“I wanted to let you know that you can come out of your room now, anytime you want.” Heeseung starts, “However, I expect that you’ll be back here by 6 pm. I have duties I need to attend to later that night, so we’ll have to…” he clears his throat to get his point across, “...do it, before I leave. Is that okay?”
“It’s not like I have a choice. You’ll do it anyway.” you hear his breath catch at that.
“How frequently does this have to happen?”
“Once every two days.”
“What? Who do they think we are? Rabbits?” you try to joke but Heeseung’s face remains expressionless. “I have something to ask from you. It’s the least you can do for, erm… me.” You cringe at your words but proceeds nonetheless when Heeseung doesn’t say anything. “I need a laptop so I can research, and books and studies on anything that could help me on knowing more about this virus. I can’t not do anything here but bear your children, the thought disgusts me as it is.” you explain, your tone desperate. “That’s all I ask for. I’ll do anything you wish, just let me continue my research. Please.”
Heeseung nods his head, “Of course. I’ll provide you with everything you need.” you thank him. He hesitates for a bit before returning to the door, about to leave. Before he does, he looks back at you, “I apologize for how I acted before. I had just been made known about you that day, and I acted… out of remorse. I’m sorry.” you nod your head at his apology, “It’s quite alright. I acted irrationally too. I was scared.”
“We all are, aren’t we?” Heeseung replies, a ghost of a smile forming on his lips. “Let me know if you need any help with your research. I’ll see you tonight.” The door shuts close behind him, leaving you alone in your room. That night, Heeseung visits you in your room, only this time, he acts gently and — you let him. Your business was finished as quickly as it had started. When you fall asleep in his arms, he carefully positions you back on the bed, covering you with a blanket, and delicately pats your forehead. Once Heeseung is sure that you are deep into your slumber, he leaves.
You immediately rise from your bed to start your fourth day with some research. A stab of pain erupts from your abdomen, making you groan in pain. You slowly get up on your feet, to the chair in front of the desk placed on the right side of the room. The moment you sat, you noticed a stack of books placed neatly on the table and your very own laptop that you were sure you left behind at home. You smiled at the effort that Heeseung had put into making sure you had everything you needed. Shaking your head, you began as you took a bite of mango and chocolate toast specially made for you. Hours passed and you were able to read most of the information you had already known: about the incident years ago, the non-existent symptoms, the lockdown, your parents along with other scientists locked away and dead, and the division. Searching on the Internet, most of the articles you came across were more on people’s predictions and not based on scientific evidence. That was all you did that day. Research, read, study, and make your hypotheses. — Why aren’t there any symptoms? you think to yourself. It was the most bizarre thing you had known, it was a virus with no symptoms. No wonder everyone was dying around you because, to this day, no one had found the answer to that question.
“I see you’re still up.” A voice interrupts you from your reading, dropping your highlighter on the book she was reading about viruses. You had been so distracted you didn’t even hear Heeseung enter your room in the first place. “I can’t seem to figure this out on my own. I’ve been reading for hours.” you answer, rubbing your temples with the pads of your thumbs. Heeseung hums behind you, taking a peek at what you were reading. “What I’m about to tell you might help.” you turn your head to him, “I’ve been feeling some strange sensations. My head’s been feeling light since yesterday. I’ve taken some painkillers but it doesn’t seem to go away.”
Your eyes widened in shock, “A-are you implying you’ve caught the virus?” Heeseung shakes his head, “No, or wait, maybe a little. I’m not so sure honestly. But seriously, anyone could have caught the virus by now, even indoors. We’ve also already made skin-to-skin contact. Shouldn’t we not be surprised about that possibility?” You think carefully before answering him, “I’ve never thought about that, but you’re right. Anything could happen.” But I don’t want any of us to die. A few moments pass before you clap your hands together, bringing Heeseung’s attention back to you, “You’re right. I’ll keep that in mind, just in case, however, it doesn’t mean you have the virus.” you send him a look that makes Heeseung sigh, “Right, but I just thought I should tell you.”
“And you didn’t do anything wrong by telling me. I appreciate it, Heeseung. Really.” you assure him, placing a hand on his shoulder. Heeseung looks you dead in the eyes when you do, and you quickly put your hand away once you realize. “Right. It’s getting late. You should be going. I don’t think I’ll be getting any sleep tonight.” Heeseung didn’t end up leaving you that night, and it wasn’t entirely his choice. He stayed with you until you fell asleep on your desk, and he carried you once again over to her bed. Half-asleep, you manage to pull Heeseung towards you, whispering “Stay with me.” and Heeseung does, falling asleep next to you.
The next morning, you woke to the sound of soft breathing beside you. You blinked, momentarily disoriented, before realizing Heeseung was still in bed with you. The realization brought a mix of emotions—confusion, and fear, but also a strange comfort you hadn’t expected. You gently removed yourself from his embrace, careful not to wake him, and moved to the desk where you had been working the night before. Your thoughts were swirling with everything Heeseung had revealed to you. His admission about the strange sensations he had been feeling gnawed at you. If he was indeed showing symptoms, this could be the breakthrough you had been desperately searching for—a lead that could explain the virus’s behavior. You needed to gather more data. If Heeseung truly was infected, how much time did he have left? How much time did you have left? If Heeseung was infected, then that would mean you were too. You both didn’t have much time left.
You pulled up a document on your laptop and began typing down everything you remembered from Heeseung’s account. You noted the onset of his symptoms, their progression, and any possible environmental factors that might have contributed to his condition. If you were going to make any progress, you needed to treat this as a case study—methodical, detached, and purely scientific. The hours slipped by, and when Heeseung finally stirred, you had already compiled a preliminary report. You turned to him as he sat up, running a hand through his tousled hair. His expression was unreadable as he glanced at the clock, noting the late hour.
"How are you feeling?" you asked, trying to keep her voice steady. Heeseung frowned slightly as if considering the question. "A little better, I suppose. The lightheadedness hasn’t completely gone away, but it’s manageable. Why? Are you worried about me?"
You hesitated. "I’m just trying to understand what’s happening. If you’re showing symptoms,” You hesitate finishing your sentence, “...if I’m showing symptoms, it could be critical information for my research. But more importantly, I don’t want anything to happen to you."
Heeseung’s eyes widened at your words. "You think you’ve caught it too?” you nod your head, “It’s plausible since we’ve been together… for the past few days.” You cringe at your choice of words, “So it’s best that I entertain the possibility. If we both don’t have much time, we should stay here until we’ve figured this out. Together.”
His gaze softened, “I agree. I appreciate what you’re doing. I didn’t expect you to care so much, given the circumstances."
You shrugged your shoulders, "I may not have a choice in this situation, but that doesn’t mean I’m heartless. We’re both victims of a system neither of us controls." He looked away, a muscle in his jaw tightening.
"The world has gone mad, hasn’t it? People reduced to numbers, in a repopulation program, and those responsible for the mess are either dead or hiding behind closed doors." You sighed, feeling the weight of his words. "We’re trying to survive in a world we barely recognize anymore. But if there’s even a chance that what we’re experiencing could lead to a solution, we have to pursue it." Heeseung nodded slowly. "Then let’s work together on this. If we’re both infected, we need to know how it’s progressing and what we can do to stop it … if anything."
Over the next few days, you and Heeseung settled into a strange routine. During the day, you focused on your research, cataloging Heeseung’s symptoms with clinical precision, while also poring over your parents’ old notes and the limited data available on the virus. Heeseung made sure you had everything you needed, from medical supplies to access to secure networks that could aid your research. At night, you did what you had to. The only difference is that afterward, the two of you shared a bed, a tenuous bond formed out of necessity, and a growing, unspoken understanding.
Heeseung continues to visit you daily, and with every visit, you sense that he is hiding something. There’s a restlessness in his eyes, a kind of weight that he carries with him each time he steps into your room. One night, as he sits at the edge of the bed, a quiet question slips from your lips before you can stop yourself.
“Why are you doing this, Heeseung? Why did you bring me all these things when you could have just kept me locked away like the others?”
He looks at you, a flicker of something like regret in his gaze. “Because, Y/N… I owe it to you. I owe it to everyone who’s been affected by this virus. My father and his colleagues may have failed, but I… I won’t. If there’s any chance you could help find a cure… I’ll give you everything you need.”
His words stir something deep inside you. You can’t decide whether it’s hope, resentment, or both. You’re still unsure whether to trust him, but as days turn into weeks, you notice a subtle shift in the way you interact. There’s a tension that lingers between you, unspoken but palpable—a tension that is not entirely borne of fear or obligation.
As time goes on, you and Heeseung start to talk more. He tells you about his childhood, about his strained relationship with his father, about the weight of expectations that had always loomed over him. It’s not much, but it’s enough to remind you that, like you, he’s just a person caught up in the chaos of a world turned upside down.
One evening, as you sit together in silence, you find yourself blurting out, “What if this virus can’t be stopped? What if we’re all just… delaying the inevitable?”
He meets your eyes, his voice soft. “Then we fight it anyway. Because that’s all we can do, Y/N. We fight until there’s nothing left to fight for.”
You don’t respond, but his words echo in your mind long after he’s left the room.
The next evening, as you sat together, you noticed a slight tremor in Heeseung’s hand as he passed you a cup of tea. Your heart sank, but you kept your expression neutral. "Heeseung," you said softly, "Have you felt any other changes? Anything new?" He shook his head, setting the cup down with more care than usual. "Just the tremor. It started yesterday, but it’s not too bad. I can still control it for the most part." You bit her lip, your mind racing. "We need to accelerate our research. If the virus is progressing, we’re running out of time." Heeseung nodded, his expression grim. "I’m with you, Y/N. Whatever it takes."
Weeks pass, and the once suffocating atmosphere of your confinement begins to change. The tension between you and Heeseung continues to grow, evolving into something more complex. Conversations that once revolved around the virus and research now include moments of shared silence, subtle glances, and small admissions. There’s an unspoken understanding between you, as if the mere act of surviving together has created a fragile bond. You can sense that he’s struggling with something more than just the weight of the world outside—something personal that he hasn’t yet shared.
Days after, the usual routine is disrupted when Heeseung arrives later than usual, his expression troubled and distant. You notice his hands shaking as he sets down a tray of food. Before you can ask him what’s wrong, he steps closer, his voice low and strained.
“There’s something I need to tell you, Y/N. It’s… it’s about the virus.”
Your pulse quickens as you watch him take a seat across from you, his head bowed as if weighed down by a burden he can no longer carry alone.
“My father wasn’t just one of the researchers involved,” he begins, his voice barely above a whisper. “He was one of the first to become infected. They kept it a secret, covered it up because of his position, and… they used him as a test subject for the early trials of the cure.”
The revelation hits you like a cold wave, leaving you speechless. The pieces begin to fall into place—the rushed experiments, the hidden agendas, the urgency in Heeseung’s actions. You feel a pang of anger for being kept in the dark, but it’s quickly swallowed by an unexpected sense of empathy. Heeseung’s determination to find a cure isn’t just about the greater good; it’s personal.
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” you ask, your voice trembling with a mix of frustration and understanding.
“I didn’t know how,” he admits, his gaze finally meeting yours. “And… I didn’t want you to think that I was using you for the same reasons they used him.”
For a moment, the room is silent. You look at Heeseung, seeing the torment in his eyes and recognizing a kind of vulnerability that you hadn’t allowed yourself to acknowledge before. It’s as though, in sharing his secret, he’s offered you a glimpse of the person he is beyond the government official, beyond the virus. And perhaps, you realize, it’s the same for you. This whole time, you’ve been hiding behind the walls you built around yourself to survive, afraid to let him see the parts of you that long for connection in this cold, fragmented world.
“You could have told me,” you say softly. “I would have understood.”
Heeseung gives a faint, bitter smile. “I didn’t know if I could trust you to understand, or if you would see me as just another monster.”
Before you can respond, a wave of emotion sweeps over you, and without thinking, you reach out and touch his hand. It’s a small gesture, but it’s enough to break down whatever was left of the barrier between you. His fingers curl around yours hesitantly, as if he’s not quite sure if he should accept the comfort you’re offering, but then his grip tightens, and you realize just how much he needed it.
The days that follow are marked by an unspoken shift in your dynamic. The tension that once existed has transformed into a closeness that you’re both wary to acknowledge, and yet neither of you can deny. When he’s with you, the air feels warmer, the silence less suffocating. But in the back of your mind, you know this fragile connection is built upon the uncertainty of a world ravaged by disease—a world that could take everything away in a heartbeat.
It’s in this closeness that you begin to notice Heeseung showing signs of fatigue. He tries to hide it, but you see the subtle winces, the way his hand trembles when he thinks you’re not looking. The truth becomes impossible to ignore when, one night, he collapses in front of you, a fever burning through his skin.
“Heeseung!” you cry, rushing to his side. As you help him to the bed, the realization hits you with a brutal clarity—he’s infected.
The weight of the situation crashes down on you like a tidal wave. Everything you’ve come to understand, every unspoken moment between you, is now overshadowed by the one thing you feared most. Heeseung is dying, and you don’t know if there’s any way to save him.
The next few weeks were a blur of research, testing, and increasingly frequent moments of quiet despair. You were relentless, pushing yourself to the brink of exhaustion as you combed through every piece of data you could find. You reached out to the few remaining scientists who had survived the initial outbreak, sharing your findings and seeking their input. But the virus remained an enigma, its origin rooted in the nightmarish accident that had taken place decades ago. The more you learned, the more you realized how little you knew, and how close you all were to the edge.
As Heeseung’s condition worsened, you felt a growing sense of urgency. The lightheadedness had evolved into dizziness, the tremors into violent shakes that left him bedridden for hours. You continued to document everything, but your fear for him, something you had tried to keep at bay—began to overshadow your scientific detachment.
Then, one night, as Heeseung lay in bed, his breathing labored and his skin pale, he reached for your hand. You took it, feeling the tremor in his grip, and held on tightly.
"I’m sorry," he whispered, his voice barely audible.
"Don’t be," you replied, your throat tight with unshed tears. "We’re doing everything we can."
He managed a weak smile. "I know. But if this is it...if this is the end...I want you to know that I don’t regret these last few weeks. I’m glad we met, even if it was under these circumstances."
You swallowed hard, unable to find the words to respond. Instead, you leaned in and kissed his forehead, your tears finally spilling over, with Heeseung sharing an embrace.
"I’ll keep fighting," you promised. "For you, and everyone else. I won’t let this be in vain."
Heeseung closed his eyes, his hand tightening briefly around hers. "I know you will."
In the early hours of the morning, Lee Heeseung took his final breath. You stayed by his side, holding his hand until it grew cold. When the sun rose, you gently released him and began writing down the final stages of his symptoms, your tears blurring the words on the page.
Two days later, your symptoms began to manifest. You felt the same lightheadedness Heeseung had described, followed by the tremors. But you didn’t stop working. Every moment you had left was dedicated to your research, to the hope that your final notes might contain the key to stopping the virus.
When the end came for you, it was peaceful. You had finished your last entry, detailing the progression of the virus within yourself, and had left instructions for the remaining scientists on where to find your work. You lay down on the bed you had shared with Heeseung and closed your eyes, a sense of calm washing over you.
Your body was discovered a day later by the authorities, just as Heeseung’s had been. The room was quiet, save for the hum of the laptop that still displayed your final research notes.
On the desk, beside the neatly stacked books and papers, laid a single handwritten note:
"To whoever finds this, remember us not just for what we did, but for what we tried to do. The virus may have taken our lives, but it will not take our legacy. The answers are here. Please, finish what we started.”
Signed,
Y/N L/N
And with that, Y/N L/N and Lee Heeseung’s story came to an end, but their fight continued on in the hands of those who followed.

@armysantiny @ddeonuism @bloom-bloom-pow @simpingforsim @enhyels @jeontaeil @woniehugs @softbbyg0rl @build-a-roleplay + anyone else who sees this!
If you're a fanfiction author and you haven't done this already, start backing up all of your fics on a Google Drive.
When Post+ goes live (it will despite the backlash - Tumblr is owned by Automattic who also owns WordPress), it's going to be mass purge of fandom accounts.
You've probably already seen the posts going around stating that if you make fanworks, you legally cannot monetize (EDIT 2: APPARENTLY THIS IS FALSE. EXPLAINED HERE. Check sources and come to your own conclusions. I've been getting messages with different takes on this). As soon as the idiots at Automattic realize this (EDIT: actually, they definitely know this), they're going to purge fan creators. Why? Because they're also going to be dealing with lawsuits, not just the creators.
And they can write out all of the rules and terms and warnings they want before a user signs up for Post+, but that isn't gonna stop all of the fandom babies from Wattpad coming in thinking they can make money off of writing fanfiction. So the solution? Shadow banning all people who create for fandoms, driving us into a dark corner, and ultimately kicking us off the platform so it can bring in more outsiders and normies, therefore becoming more appealing to investors and advertisers.
I implore you, please read up on the history of fandoms and the great purges of fan content here and try to tell me that's not where we're headed.
(EDIT 3: What I'm trying to say is, I'm pretty sure that the big men up top want us gone so they can try to make this site profitable. Back your works up. Let your voice be heard. Know your roots as a fan. All hail AO3.)

the week passed by as fast as the wind, and before you know it, it was already saturday.
your footsteps echoed along the quiet street, breath fogging up in the cool afternoon air. on one hand, you held a paper bag that contained the materials you bought and needed in constructing your generator. you were surprised to know that jake’s house was just around the corner, three blocks away from yours. that’s why you decided to walk the distance instead of taking a taxi.
as you approached his house, you stopped in your tracks, taking a moment to admire its charming, ivy-covered brick facade. the neighborhood is quiet, and his home stands out, nestled at the end of a cul-de-sac. today would be the first time you two would work together outside of school.
“alright, y/n. you can do this.” you tell yourself, walking towards the house. your heartbeat quickened, not from the chill in the air, but from the uncertainty about what the day would bring. you can feel that something in the air lingered between the two of you ever since the conversation about the project, the vague promise of tension.
the door opens suddenly, and you see jake emerging from the front door, tugging a leash as his dog, layla, bounds out with him. “come here, girl!” he calls out to layla, and you smile at the sight.
jake looks up and sees you, “hey, you made it,” he says, surprised to see you this early. he’s wearing a light gray long-sleeve shirt paired with jogging pants, his hair slightly tousled as if he just rolled out of bed.
how blessed is he to look that good even when his hair is all ruffled? you thought, chuckling at him. “of course i did.”
layla immediately trots over, sniffing your shoes before giving your hand a lick. surprisingly, you didn’t inch away. “see? i told you she was nice. i was just about to take her for a quick walk. wanna tag along?”
you felt a little caught off guard but curious nonetheless. “guess this is the first time you’ve proved me wrong, sim.” you teased in reply, “and sure, it’s still early.” you may or may not have arrived earlier than usual to use the time to talk with jake before working. your plan was surprisingly working.
as you two stroll down the tree-lined street, layla excitedly tugs on the leash, leading the way. walking side by side, you and jake make small talk about the project and upcoming deadlines. but there’s a shift in his tone when you mention the group presentation, as if something else is on his mind. the conversation lulls for a moment, the only sound the crunch of leaves underfoot and layla’s panting.
did i say something wrong? was i not suppose to talk about school?
jake glances sideways at you, his eyes searching your face briefly before he turns his attention back to layla.
“so, have you always been this serious about school stuff?” he asks, a slight smirk tugging at his lips.
“guess so,” you shrug. “but i didn’t peg you for a dog person.”
he chuckles, “yeah, layla’s my neighbor’s, actually. but they left the country now, so i’m stuck taking care of this furball. not that i mind.” he reaches down to give layla a quick pat, and his arm brushes yours as he straightens back up.
“she’s cute, i’ll give you that. i wish i had a dog this nice.” you reach down to pet layla as well, admiring her soft streaks of white fur. you look up at jake, “if she gets pregnant, please do give me one of her pups. i bet they’ll be even more adorable.”
jake shakes his head, smiling, “nuh-uh. highly doubt she’ll have babies anytime soon. she steers away from any dog that tries to go near her, so the possibility is pretty low if you ask me.”
“may be low, but never zero.”
his laugh rings in your ears, and you swear it’s the most beautiful sound you’ve ever heard.
the walk back is silent as you walk beside jake. his presence beside you overwhelms your senses in a way that haven’t been before. you sneak a glance at him, and he’s smiling to himself, looking down at layla.
eventually, jake strikes up a conversation again, turning to random topics like favorite movies, mutual friends, anything to fill the silence that seems to grow heavier with each step. the kind of silence that makes you hyper-aware of every little detail: the space between the two of you, the way his arm brushes yours every so often, and the warmth of his voice when he laughs.
when you finally arrive back at his house, he opens the door, letting layla scamper inside. the tension seems to thicken as you follow him step through the front door. the house is quiet, save for the distant hum of a refrigerator. jake gestures toward the living room.
“make yourself at home. layla will be okay here alone, she usually sleeps after a walk.” he says, his voice a little softer now. “i’ll grab us something to drink before we head to the work area.” he disappears into the kitchen, leaving you to stand awkwardly in the middle of the living room. you take a seat on the couch, looking around the house as you hear him rummaging around for glasses.
jake returns with two glasses on one hand and a pitcher filled with orange juice on the other. “alright, follow me. unless you want to stay with layla.”
“i think i’d rather be with you, jake.” you blurted out, not realizing the implication behind your words. you shift in your seat when you realize.
jake’s hand pauses just briefly on the pitcher before a faint smile tugs at the corners of his mouth. he glances at you, his eyes warm with a mix of surprise and something else you can’t quite place. “alright, then,” he says, his voice quieter than before, almost like he’s trying to process your words.
oh my god, i did not just say that.
yes. yes, you did.
you stand up with the paper bag in hand, following jake as he leads the way to a small room just off the hallway, where a cluttered desk filled with technical equipment and materials, and an array of books and papers await. you look to the other side and notice a well-kept bed. you assume jake probably sleeps there whenever he’s too tired to go up to his room after studying.
as you settle in, the air still feels thick with unspoken words. the room is filled with an ambient sort of closeness, an awareness that every movement, every shared look seems to carry weight.
two chairs are placed in front of the desk. jake sits down on one and you follow, as he sets the glasses and pitcher on the side of the desk. “so,” he begins, his voice steady but his gaze flickering to yours with an intensity that makes your breath hitch. “let’s get started.”
as you and jake worked on the project, your hands would linger a bit too long when passing a pencil or paper, fingertips brushing in a way that sent subtle sparks up your spine. you’d catch each other stealing glances instead of focusing on the work at hand, eyes meeting for a second too long before one of you would clear their throat and look away with a shy smile.
while discussing how to approach certain tasks, the two of you would naturally fall into a rhythm of banter, cracking jokes and laughing in a way that made the air feel lighter, more effortless. you found yourself feeling comfortable with jake, so much that you almost forgot your original plans involving him. in those moments, you were just living in the present.
after a while, the project materials were pushed to the side. “i think we deserve a break,” jake said, leaning back in his chair with a grin. “we’ve made enough progress for today, don’t you think?”
you nodded, letting out a relaxed sigh. “yeah, we’re basically experts now,” you joked.
“exactly,” jake chuckled, pouring more juice into your glasses. “so, what do you like to do when you’re not drowning in schoolwork?”
you leaned forward, propping your chin on your hand. “i guess I’m pretty into photography,” you admitted. “it’s like… a way to capture moments exactly how i want to remember them, you know?”
jake’s eyes seemed to brighten at the mention. “really? that’s cool. i actually have an old camera i’ve been playing around with. i’m not great or anything, but it’s fun.”
“maybe you’ll have to show me some of your shots,” you teased, raising an eyebrow. “unless you’re too embarrassed.”
jake gave her a playful scoff. “only if you promise not to judge too harshly.”
you two continued talking long after the project was forgotten—about random favorite memories, and even plans after you graduate. at one point, layla wandered into the room, curling up at jake’s feet, as if sensing the calmness that now filled the space.
—
“you want to be a physics teacher after you graduate?”
“mhm, seems like the only suitable option for me, and i don’t really mind. all i know is that i won’t be doing soccer forever.”
“you don’t see yourself doing it for a living?”
“nah, just a hobby. i’m starting to grow out of it. what about you? you want to make a breakthrough in the academe?”
“hmm, possibly. i’ll try but i have a feeling i won’t be pushing myself so hard by the time i graduate. i’ll take things a step at a time, not overwhelm myself so much like i used to.”
“that’s good. from what i’ve heard, college is totally different from high school, so it’s okay to lay back a bit.”
—
“uh, i’ve never been in a relationship.”
“really? how about a crush? a fling? a one-night stand?”
“haha very funny, jake. have you seen me? not a single experience.”
“well, it’s bad to judge someone, you know. who knows, maybe the smart girl has a freaky side to her.”
“…”
“do you?”
“no. but you certainly do look like someone who does though.”
“not sure if that’s a compliment or an insult.”
“well, do you?”
“you’ll have to find out.”
—
“i noticed the photo card in your phone case. you like bts?”
“oh my god, yes!”
“cool, i like them too! who’s your bias?”
“pretty sure mine’s self-explanatory, hence, the photo card. it’s jungkook.”
“well, you definitely seem like a jungkook girl.”
“i’ll take that as a compliment. how about you, jake? who’s your bias?”
“i don’t have one. i like all of them equally.”
“right, all armys are ot7. i find it hard to believe you don’t like one member more.
“no really, i really do—“
“—maybe you’re a taehyung biased.”
“i’m really not.”
“you do kind of look like him.”
“w-what? no i don’t—“
“you do! maybe with the right hairstyle and makeup.”
“stop lying, it’s not funny.”
“i’m not!”
—
as the afternoon slowly drifted into evening, you realized how easily the time had slipped by, how natural it felt to be there with him, just sharing these moments. with a big smile on your face as you listened to jake talk about his experience with the soccer team, you found yourself wishing this moment will never end.
• • •
weeks went by, and jake’s presence beside you had become a regular part of your life, though you were still trying to adjust. you’d meet up every saturday at his house to work on your physics project, and you looked forward to it every time. you’d catch yourself thinking about him more often than you’d like to admit, whether he was actually talking to you or just doing mundane things like tapping his pen against the desk or running his fingers through his hair.
today was no different. you were supposed to be paying attention to mr. lewis’s lecture on mitosis, but all you could focus on was how jake kept stealing glances at you when he thought you weren’t looking. maybe it was your imagination. or maybe he actually noticed you just as much as you noticed him. you didn’t want to get ahead of yourself, but that flicker of curiosity only fueled your daydreams further.
when the bell finally rang, releasing everyone for lunch, you packed your things a bit slower than usual. jake, however, was still standing near his desk, and you could feel his eyes lingering on you.
“hey, y/n,” he called out, catching your attention.
you looked up, somewhat startled. “yeah?”
he rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. “you’re heading out to the soccer field again, right?”
you blinked in surprise. how did he know that? “uh, yeah. why?”
“i thought I’d join you—if that’s okay,” he added quickly, as though worried you’d say no. “i noticed you go there a lot, and the cafeteria’s just… not my vibe today.”
you hesitated, unsure how to respond. the soccer field had always been your place of solitude, your escape from the chaos inside the school. yet, the thought of jake joining you didn’t seem as intrusive as it might have before. in fact, a small part of you was secretly thrilled.
“sure,” you replied, trying to sound casual. “i mean, if you don’t mind the wind and all.”
he grinned, grabbing his backpack. “you’re talking to a soccer player. i think i’ll survive.”
as you walked side by side across the school grounds, you kept your gaze forward, but you could feel jake’s presence closer than ever. you could hear the whispers from students as you walked pass them. jake didn’t seem to mind, and you decided to pretend you didn’t too. their opinions didn’t matter.
once you reached the bleachers, you took your usual seat and started unpacking your lunch while he sat down beside you.
for a few moments, neither of you spoke. you weren’t sure what to say, and the silence seemed to stretch on, almost becoming awkward.
“so… you come out here a lot.” jake broke the silence, glancing at you with that familiar, easygoing smile.
“yeah,” you nodded. “it’s quiet. peaceful.” you gestured towards the empty field. “no crowds. you know, just to clear my head.”
“i get that,” he replied, his tone softer than you expected. “sometimes you just need to get away from everyone. the school field is the best place, definitely.”
you looked at him, trying to gauge his expression. there was something about his voice that suggested he wasn’t just talking about today. “you don’t seem like the type who’d need to get away,” you remarked. “you’re always surrounded by people.”
he chuckled, but it didn’t quite reach his eyes. “that doesn’t mean I don’t get tired of it.”
the honesty in his tone surprised you, and for a brief moment, you saw a different side of him—the side that wasn’t just the popular, charming soccer player. there was a quiet vulnerability there, one that made you wonder just how much of jake’s life was a performance.
remembering the time you saw him out the field during lunch, you decided to ask, “you come here often?”
“sometimes,” he replied, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. “usually after practice. it’s different when it’s quiet, without everyone running around.”
you shared a small smile, feeling a bit of your tension ease. it’s nice to know you shared the same sentiments. “i didn’t think you’d be the reflective type.”
jake shrugged. “i guess there’s a lot you don’t know about me.”
“maybe,” you agreed, “but that goes both ways.”
jake turned to you with a glint of curiosity in his eyes. “what about you, Y/N?” he asked. “you’ve got that whole ‘perfect student’ thing going on, but… do you ever feel like you just want to do something crazy?”
his question caught you off guard. yes, i’ve felt like wanting to do something crazy for months now. it totally isn’t trying to get you to fuck me senseless. i am exhausted.
you hesitated, wondering if he could sense how restless you’d been feeling lately. “well, yeah,” you admitted. “i guess… sometimes i just want to break free from all the expectations, you know?”
jake’s gaze deepened, as if searching for something in your words. “yeah,” he said quietly. “i get that.”
you took a breath, the conversation feeling strangely intimate. it was the first time you’d spoken to anyone about this, let alone jake. yet here you were, sharing bits of your thoughts with the boy who’d been living in the back of your mind for weeks.
the conversation fell into a comfortable rhythm after that, with the two of you chatting about everything. it was easy, natural, like you’d known each other much longer than you actually had. you found yourself laughing more than you expected, feeling more at ease than you had in a long time.
before you knew it, lunch was over. you hadn’t finished eating, and jake didn’t seem to care about the time either. but the bell was a harsh reminder that you both had to return to reality, and whatever small escape you’d found out here was over, at least for now.
as you both stood to leave, jake paused and glanced back at you. “hey, y/n,” he said, his voice low and thoughtful, “maybe we could… do this again sometime. you know, go somewhere outside of school. besides my house.”
you felt your heartbeat quicken, the faintest hint of a smile tugging at your lips. things were really going to take a turn from here.
“yeah,” you replied, “i’d like that.”
• • •
it wasn’t long before you and jake began seeking each other out more frequently. sometimes, you’d find him waiting for you outside your classroom when you had different classes, and other times, you’d spot him at the library, sitting in the back where he’d save you a seat. it was as though an unspoken understanding had formed—a subtle promise that you’d always find each other, no matter how busy or chaotic the day became.
one saturday afternoon (you’re not sure how many weeks have passed), the two of you were finishing up the final adjustments to the generator. you were bent over the desk, scribbling some notes while jake tested the output voltage. you were standing so close that the faintest movement would have your skin brushing against his. as you handed him the screwdriver, your fingers touched his, lingering just a moment longer than necessary.
jake froze, his gaze snapping up to meet yours. for a heartbeat, everything else seemed to fade away. there was a quiet intensity in his eyes, a question lingering in the air between you. the proximity of his face made your heart pound in your chest, he was close enough that you could feel the warmth radiating from him, and you thought, just for a second, that he might lean in. you weren’t entirely sure what you’d do if he did. maybe you’d close the distance too.
that’s what you wanted, right?
your breath catches, and you feel your pulse quicken, then the spell breaks. jake clears his throat and takes a step back, the moment shattering as if it had never existed. “we should get back to it,” he says casually, his voice steady despite the unspoken tension lingering in the air.
“r-right…” you nod frantically, dropping your gaze back to your notes. your hand is still trembling slightly as you pick up the pen, trying to ignore the way your skin tingles where his touch had lingered. you force yourself to focus on the adjustments needed, pretending you hadn’t just felt that small, reckless urge to close the distance between you.
get it together, y/n.
• • •
the following monday, you spot jake in the hallway before your first class. he’s standing by his locker, casually chatting with a few friends, his usual easygoing demeanor on full display. as you approach him, your stomach knots with anticipation, replaying the memory of that saturday afternoon—the lingering touch, the almost kiss. you’re not sure what to expect, but you can’t shake that anxious feeling.
but when jake turns and catches your eye, there’s no trace of the tension from before. his face lights up with a friendly smile, and he gives you a quick nod, as if it were just another ordinary morning. “hey, there you are,” he says, his tone as casual as ever. “did you check the generator’s voltage log yet? I think we might need to recalibrate it before our next test.”
you hesitate for a split second, your heart sinking just a little. his nonchalance feels like a splash of cold water, dispelling the warmth of that near-kiss with a stark clarity. you force yourself to return his smile, trying to mask the uncertainty tightening in your chest. “uh, yeah. i can look at it during lunch,” you reply, your voice coming out more neutral than you’d intended.
as you walk together to class, jake continues talking about the project, updates on the generator, plans for the upcoming test—but you can’t help but notice how effortlessly he steers the conversation away from anything personal. there’s no mention of last saturday, no hint that anything unusual had happened. it’s as if that almost-moment between you had been wiped away, swept under the rug without a second thought.
the rational part of you tries to follow his lead, to convince yourself that maybe it hadn’t been a big deal after all. maybe you’d just imagined the way his gaze had lingered on you a little too long, the way his breath had hitched for just a second. but there’s a part of you—an irrational, persistent part—that can’t help but wonder if he’s pretending not to remember, or if he’s simply choosing not to acknowledge it.
as you settle into your seat, jake gives you one last friendly nod before taking his place beside you. you catch yourself glancing over at him throughout the class, searching for any sign of the tension that had hung between you so heavily just days ago. but jake doesn’t look your way; he’s absorbed in his notes, laughing quietly at something the person next to him says, his attention entirely elsewhere.
it leaves you with a strange emptiness, a gnawing uncertainty about what, if anything, the two of you are really moving towards. and as the bell rings, signaling the end of the period, you’re still not sure how to feel—whether to be relieved that things haven’t become awkward, or disappointed that they haven’t changed at all.
maybe i should bring it up. but then that would show that i might be interested.
you technically are. but i thought the plan here was to make him do the first move, y/n. not the other way around.
well, nothing’s going to happen if i don’t let him know what i want. and i can’t wait anymore.
simp.
perhaps i am.
“ugh, fucking hell.” you curse under your breath, grabbing your things and shoving them into your bag. without looking back or waiting for jake like you usually do, you storm out of the classroom and head to your next class, ignoring his voice calling after you.
• • •
you and jake were back at his house, hunched over the generator once more. the quiet hum of the machine and the occasional clink of tools were the only sounds in the room. as the afternoon wore on, the work slowed, and a familiar tension began to seep back into the air. you could feel it every time jake’s shoulder brushed against yours or when your hands met over a tool, but neither of you said a word about it.
eventually, you set your wrench down and leaned back against the chair, crossing your arms. "can i be completely honest?” you started, even though you could feel yourself shaking by starting off a conversation this way.
“you’ve been... different lately," you continued, your tone casual but your eyes searching his face. "i mean, not that I'm keeping tabs or anything, but you're not exactly acting like the same jake I know. did i… do something wrong?"
jake glanced at you, then back at the generator, fiddling with one of the wires.
ouch. holding eye contact while talking would be nice.
"what are you talking about?" he replied, keeping his voice neutral. "i should be the one asking you since you’ve been leaving me behind the classroom since monday. i’m the same as always."
you cringe upon remembering, "oh really?" you retorted, raising your voice. "because even layla senses that you’re acting indifferent. she kept whimpering the entire time ever since i got here, jake.” you feel tears prickling in the corner of your eyes, and you can’t help but feel like you’re being overdramatic about the whole thing. you couldn’t care less anymore. it was now or never.
“last saturday didn't feel like nothing to me, neither are the past couple of weeks." you whispered the last part. your words hung in the air, heavier than you intended, but you couldn't take them back now. it had been said and done.
jake’s hand stilled over the wires, his jaw tightening. he lets out a deep sigh, "we were just... close. it didn't mean anything. you’re making a big deal out of nothing.”
you scoffed, rolling your eyes, “spoken like a true fuckboy, huh? how many girls have you said that to? bet it’s half the campus. i’ve probably walked pass by almost all of them in the hallways. they’re always giggling about ‘oh jake, yes, oh he’s so amazing, oh i could—“
“stop talking, y/n. or you’ll regret it.” jake glares at you for a moment, a hard tone in his voice before turning his attention back to the wires.
okay, that was too far.
"right. back to the subject at hand. if i was to walk up to you right now and try to kiss you, it wouldn't mean anything?"
he turned to you then, a flash of something unreadable in his eyes. "we’re project partners, y/n. and became friends because of it.”
jeez, how many times has he said my name now? and second, ouch.
“and you wouldn't dare." jake finished, but there was a hint of uncertainty in his voice.
"i might," you shot back, standing up from your seat and putting one hand on your hip, taking a step closer. "or maybe i just want to know why you keep pretending like it didn't almost happen."
jake let out a short, frustrated breath, standing up and taking a step toward you as well. you quietly gulped at how much taller he is than you. "because it didn’t happen, okay? we stopped ourselves, and that was probably for the best."
"then why are you still thinking about it?" you countered, your voice quieter now, but every word laced with challenge. “you know how much it hurt me when we saw each other last monday and you pretended as if nothing had happened, that everything was alright. i’ve been an overthinking wreck since that day, jake!”
“what are you trying to say?”
“i-“ you started, trying to find the right words without having to explicitly tell him. you didn’t think you could handle being the first out of the two of you to admit what you were feeling the whole time. or be rejected, and find out it was one-sided all along.
“i don’t know…”
“no, you do know. why don’t you just tell me so we can understand each other and what’s going on.” jake was close enough now that you could see the tension in his shoulders and the way his gaze kept flicking to your lips, like he was struggling to hold himself back.
you groaned in frustration, running your other hand through your hair, “goddamnit jake! you really want me to say it out loud? i don’t know if i can, okay?! i’m freaking out!”
"well, then, what do you want me to say?" he murmured, his voice low. even though you were already raising your voice at him, you were glad that jake still spoke in that soft tone of his. that made your heart warm.
"that i do want to kiss you? because i... i do."
you met his eyes, your breath catching. "then what's stopping you?" you whispered, a slight tremor in your voice. "because i want to, too. badly."
silence engulfed in the room, only yours and jake’s heavy breathing could be heard, and you aren’t sure what that insinuated. you could hear a ringing in your ears, and you didn’t think you could bear the heavy atmosphere anymore. you blink your tears back before turning away from him and heading towards the door.
that seemed to break the last thread of jake’s restraint. before you could even take a step, in an instant, jake grabbed you by the wrist and pulled you towards him. you yelp when he closed the distance between you, his other hand curling around the back of your neck as he pressed his lips on yours.
the kiss was hard, desperate, as though all the weeks of tension had finally snapped. you let your eyes fall close as you kissed him back equally as desperate. you can feel the plumpness of his lips that you’ve been staring at only a few weeks. you’ve been anticipating this for so long. and now that it’s happening, you’re not so sure what to do, but you let jake take the lead.
you put one hand on his chest, the other tangled in his hair, eliciting a small groan out of him. you barely registered the moment jake guided you to his bed, your back hitting the mattress as he hovered over you. his hands slid down to your waist, pulling you closer as you wrapped your arms around his neck. the kiss deepened, turning hungry, both of you lost in the heat of the moment.
you weren't sure how long it lasted. time seemed to blur together with the feel of his lips and the warmth of his body against yours. for a while, there was no hesitation, no second-guessing. just the two of you, tangled up in each other, with all the things left unsaid now spilling over into every touch and kiss.
the kiss grew more heated, and the room seemed to shrink around you. jake’s hands roamed your sides, slipping under the hem of your shirt to touch your skin, the warmth of his touch sending a shiver down your spine. “i-is this okay?” he asks you, voice shaking with need. you responded eagerly, pulling him closer, your fingers tangling in his hair as if trying to anchor yourself in the moment. every kiss, every brush of his lips against your skin felt urgent, like you were both trying to make up for lost time.
jake pulled back just enough to catch his breath, his gaze searching yours for any sign of hesitation. but you met his eyes with the same intensity, your lips parting slightly as you whispered, "don’t stop."
he didn't need to be told twice. jake’s lips were back on yours, more insistent this time. he lowered himself over you, his weight pressing you into the mattress in a way that made your pulse quicken. you could feel the heat radiating from his skin, jake’s breath warm against your cheek as he kissed a line down your jaw, then back up to your lips again. it was like he couldn't get enough, like he was afraid if he stopped, this would all somehow slip away.
his hand slipped under your back, pulling you even closer, and you could feel his heart pounding as fast as yours. the world outside seemed to disappear, leaving only the two of you, and the unspoken tension that had been building for so long finally had an outlet. it was a release, yes, but also a beginning—of what, you weren't sure yet.
for now, you didn't need to know. all that mattered was the way jake was kissing you like he'd been waiting for this moment just as much as you had.
you felt the edge of the mattress dip as jake adjusted his position, pressing his forehead against yours as you both caught your breath. his voice was low and rough when he spoke. "you don't know how long I've wanted to do that," he admitted, his thumb brushing over your cheek.
you let out a soft laugh, your fingers tracing the line of his jaw. "then why didn't you?"
jake’s expression softened, his eyes searching yours. "i wasn’t sure if you felt the same way. i didn't want to ruin things... didn't want to make things complicated between us."
you reached up, your hand cupping his face. "maybe it is complicated," you whispered. "but I'm okay with that." jake lets out a breath, his forehead resting against yours. "are you sure?" he asked, his tone hesitant despite everything you'd just shared.
instead of answering, you pulled him back down for another kiss, your lips telling him everything he needed to know. and as his arms tightened around you, you could feel something shifting between you both—something that couldn't be taken back now, but you weren't sure you'd want to even if you could.
you’re steps closer away from the goal.
