the innies at mammalians nurturable seem to be there permanently. or they seem to be unable to leave.
most of them appear to be unclean, or have no access to personal care or are unclear on how to interact with people. if ms. huang was acquired by the company as a child, or if lumon has no issue taking on children, who's to say at least some of the employees at mammalians nurturable weren't also brought in as children, severed young enough that their memories were split before their minds could fully develop, flocking to the sound of a bell - like a school bell, maybe? (we see in ms. cobel's shrine that the Eagans owned schools)
What if they were the very first to be severed and they were hidden down below as failed experiments on young children? mammalians nurturable is also an interesting name. humans are mammals too.
his outie excelled at stargazing - glow in the dark stars in a child's bedroom.
#severance s2#severance theory#severance#do I think this could be true? honestly idk#but the words ms casey gave at wellness were always layered with alternative meaning#theres something more to the stargazing bit and the employees at MN are... weird#there's something going on there#they give off a vibe that they've been there a long time#Ive seen theories as well that they are homeless#he excels at stargazing because hes often outside or without a roof#but they are bringing up that lumon has a long history#without really mentioning when severance as a process was first introduced

The story of Microsoft's meteoric rise and IBM's fall has been on my mind lately. Not really related to any film, but I do think we're overdue for an updated Pirates of Silicon Valley biopic. I really think that the 80's and 90's had some wild stories in computing.
If you ask the average person what operating system your computer could have they'd say that if it's a PC it has Windows, and if it's a Mac it has macOS. All home computers are Macs or PCs, but how did it get this way?
In the 70's everyone was making home computers. Tandy was a leather supply goods company established in 1919, but they made computers. Montgomery Ward was a retail chain that decided to make their own store brand computers. Commodore, Atari, NEC, Philips, Bally and a million other assorted companies were selling computers. They generally couldn't talk to each other (if you had software for your Tandy it wouldn't work on your Commodore) and there was no clear market winner. The big three though were Tandy (yeah the leather company made some great computers in 78), Commodore and Apple.
IBM was the biggest computer company of all, in fact just the biggest company period. In 1980 they had a market cap of 128 billion dollars (adjusted for inflation). None of these other companies came close, but IBM's success was built off of mainframes. 70% of all computers sold worldwide were IBM computers, but 0% of it was from the home market.
IBM wanted to get into this growing and lucrative business, and came up with a unique plan. A cheap computer made with commodity parts (i.e. not cutting edge) that had open architecture. The plan was that you could buy an IBM Personal Computer (TM) and then upgrade it as you please. They even published documentation to make it easy to build add ons.
The hope was that people would be attracted to the low prices, the options for upgrades would work for power users, and a secondary market of add ons would be created. If some 3rd party company creates the best graphics card of all time, well you'd still need to buy an IBM PC to install it on.
IBM was not in the home software business, so they went to Microsoft. Microsoft produced MS-DOS (based on 86-DOS, which they licensed) but did not enforce exclusivity. That meant that Microsoft could sell MS-DOS for any of their competitors too. This was fine because of how fractured the market was. Remember, there were a lot of competitors, no one system dominated and none of the competitors could share software. Porting MS-DOS to every computer would have taken years, and by that point it would be outdated anyways.
IBM saw two paths forward. If the IBM PC did well they would make a ton of money. Third party devs like Microsoft would also make a lot of money, but not as much as IBM. If it failed, well then no one was making money. Either way the balance of power wouldn't change. IBM would still be at the top.
IBM however did not enjoy massive profits. It turns out that having cheap components and an open architecture where you could replace anything would... let you replace anything. A company like Compaq could just buy their own RAM, motherboards, cases, hard drives, etc. and make their own knockoff. It was easy, it was popular, and it was completely legal! Some people could order parts and build their own computer from scratch. If you've ever wondered why you can build your own computer but not your own tv or toaster, this is why. IBM had accidentally created a de facto standard that they had no control over.
In 1981 IBM's PC was worth 2.5% of the marketshare. By 1995 IBM PC compatibles were 95% of the marketshare, selling over 45 million units and IBM had to share the profits with every competitor. Apple is the only survivor of this time because the Macintosh was such an incredible piece of technology, but that's a different story for a different time.
And Microsoft? Well building an OS is much harder than putting together a few hardware components, so everyone just bought MS-DOS. With no exclusivity agreement this was also legal. That huge marketshare was now the basis for Microsoft's dominance.
IBM created a computer standard and gave the blueprints to every competitor and created a monopoly for Microsoft to boot. And that's why every computer you buy either is made by Apple with Apple software, or made by anyone else with Microsoft software. IBM is back where they started, having left the home computer business in 2005.
It's easily the biggest blunder in computer history. Other blunders have killed companies but none were quite as impactful as this one.
This story, and many others I know of, I first read in "In Search of Stupidity", a book authored by a former programmer and product manager that was able to see a lot of this first hand. I make no money advertising this book, I just had a great time reading it.

Powerpoint and Word are partners, lovers even. Excel is some kind of nerd that gets shoved into a locker. Access and Publisher are the high end couple barely anyone dares to talk to. And Outlook is.. kind of a whore.

HATE it when you’re talking to someone about excel and then it turns out this whole time they’ve been saying excel and meaning google sheets, like it’s the same thing instead of a vastly vastly inferior product
#like most the google vs microsoft stuff i’m neutral on#docs is better for formatting mostly but i prefer the interface of word#powerpoint vs slides; again; google has a little edge in formatting#google draw will NEVER be ms paint#and google sheets will never be microsoft excel

If your Microsoft 365 Subscription Price went up, this is relevant to you:
youtube
Hoping this saves someone some $$$$. In short, Microsoft auto-upgraded people on the Basic tier of their 365 subscription to the middle tier that includes copilot (with no option to turn it off), renamed the middle tier to Basic, and renamed the original Basic tier AND hid it from the subscription types options, in hopes that people won't realize they've just been auto-"upgraded" to a more expensive tier that also allows them to train their AI on your work. If you contact Microsoft support and are stubborn, or possibly (according to some of the comments on that youtube video) if you turn off auto-renewal and then look at options for re-subscribing, you can still get the original Basic tier that you had before, for the same price as you had before. Given that they are obviously not trustworthy has a subscription service, though, I'd recommend instead trying the LibreOffice (my personal favorite) or OpenOffice software suites (including Word Processor software, Spreadsheets software, etc) - both of which are 100% free. And both of which can save documents in Microsoft 365 formats so that others can still open and read your documents using Microsoft products.

Oh no.
LibreOffice has a whole application dedicated to mathematical formulas, with a little menu that gives the meaning of each symbol.
Oh no.
#I'm absolutely going to memorise them all and then misuse it for artistic purposes#stuff#it also has something called libreoffice draw that I'm going to have to take a look at#might be similar to ms paint? let's see#last time I had libre was on my ancient laptop#I've had two short lived ones since with actual microsoft office#but all I really used it for was actual school/college/uni work (that thing was long lived)#so I never explored beyond the basic word/powerpoint/excel equivalents

Mine has "Optional diagnostic data" and various "Connected experiences," but no "Optional Connected Experiences" setting, so I just turned off all connected experiences to be safe. Hoping this doesn't break anything 🤞
Microsoft Office, like many companies in recent months, has slyly turned on an “opt-out” feature that scrapes your Word and Excel documents to train its internal AI systems. This setting is turned on by default, and you have to manually uncheck a box in order to opt out.
If you are a writer who uses MS Word to write any proprietary content (blog posts, novels, or any work you intend to protect with copyright and/or sell), you’re going to want to turn this feature off immediately. How to Turn off Word’s AI Access To Your Content
I won’t beat around the bush. Microsoft Office doesn’t make it easy to opt out of this new AI privacy agreement, as the feature is hidden through a series of popup menus in your settings:On a Windows computer, follow these steps to turn off “Connected Experiences”:
File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Privacy Options > Privacy Settings > Optional Connected Experiences > Uncheck box: “Turn on optional connected experiences”

Step-by-Step Guide to Mastering Computer Basics for Beginners

Introduction
In today’s digital world, having a solid understanding of basic computer skills is no longer optional—it’s essential. Whether you want to enhance your career prospects or simply keep up with the fast-paced technology around us, mastering the basics of computer use is the first crucial step. This guide will walk beginners through practical steps to build a strong foundation in computer skills and explain how formal training can help accelerate your learning.
Why Learning Basic Computer Skills Matters
From everyday tasks like browsing the internet and emailing to professional skills like document creation and data management, computers play a vital role in our lives. Beginners who gain confidence in these basics open doors to more advanced learning, such as MS Excel Training in Yamuna Vihar or Advanced Excel Course in Yamuna Vihar, both of which are highly sought-after skills in various industries.
Step 1: Understand the Hardware and Software Basics
Start by familiarizing yourself with common computer components: CPU, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and storage devices. Knowing how hardware and software work together is key to effective computer use.
Learn to operate an operating system like Windows or macOS.
Understand how to install, uninstall, and update software.
Local centers offering Basic Computer Classes or Basic Computer Coaching can provide hands-on experience with these essentials.
Step 2: Master MS Office Fundamentals
A significant part of basic computer literacy is knowing how to use MS Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. For beginners, focusing on MS Word for document creation and Excel for spreadsheets is particularly useful.
Join MS Office Training or MS Office Coaching Institute to get structured learning.
Practice creating documents, presentations, and simple spreadsheets.
Step 3: Dive into MS Excel and Advanced Excel Skills
Excel is widely used in business for data organization and analysis. Starting with an MS Excel Course builds your capacity to handle data effectively. Once comfortable, progressing to Advanced Excel Coaching Institute in Yamuna Vihar equips you with skills like pivot tables, macros, and data visualization.
Many institutes offer these courses not only in Yamuna Vihar but also in areas like Uttam Nagar. For example, Advanced Excel Training and MS Excel Training Institute provide excellent platforms for upgrading your skills.
Step 4: Explore Computer Application Training
After grasping basic computer operations and MS Office, expanding into broader computer applications enhances your versatility. This includes learning about databases, presentation software, and introductory coding concepts.
Look for Computer Application Training or Diploma in Computer Application for comprehensive courses.
In Uttam Nagar, institutes providing Computer Application Classes in Uttam Nagar or DCA Course in UttamNagar are good options.
Step 5: Develop MIS and Data Management Skills
Management Information System (MIS) skills are increasingly valued in offices and organizations. Training in MIS can boost your profile significantly.
Enroll in a MIS Training Institute or MIS Training Institute to learn how to handle organizational data efficiently.
Step 6: Consistent Practice and Real-World Application
Theory alone won’t make you proficient. Regular practice on a computer, working on projects, and applying what you learn in real-world scenarios are crucial.
Use practice exercises from your courses, or simple daily tasks like creating a budget in Excel or preparing a presentation.
Stay updated by enrolling in refresher or advanced classes such as Advanced MS Excel Classes or MS Office Coaching Institute.
Step 7: Choose the Right Training Institute
Selecting a reputable training institute can make a huge difference in your learning journey. Whether you are in Yamuna Vihar or Uttam Nagar, look for institutes that offer:
Comprehensive Basic Computer Training or Basic Computer Training in Uttam Nagar
Experienced trainers and practical coursework
Certification upon course completion
Support for career guidance
Local centers like Basic Computer Coaching Centre or Basic Computer Coaching Institute offer specialized courses that suit beginners aiming for professional growth.
Final Thoughts
Mastering the basics of computer use is a foundational step for anyone aspiring to succeed in today’s tech-driven world. With proper guidance from Computer Training Institutes in Yamuna Vihar or Uttam Nagar, and by progressing through essential courses like MS Excel Training and Computer Application Courses, beginners can build strong skills that open many career doors.
Remember, the key is to start simple, practice consistently, and advance step-by-step. Whether you want to excel in administrative roles, data analysis, or broader IT careers, learning computer basics remains your stepping stone.

Using a phone is what's clunky. I can accomplish in seconds what takes forever in a phone! You can do multiple processes instead of flipping through tabs on a 2 inch screen. (Plus, then I'm not getting text-neck.) I can flip through multiple tabs in seconds, a single click, instead of pulling open my tiny web browser and opening all my tabs and then clicking. And then, apps aren't plumbing my phone for personal data, either.
And when you get into the work force? You'll be using a desktop. You'll need to know how to use a folder. How to find things quickly on your desktop. You'll need to know shortcuts to quickly accomplish tasks. Command prompts and bios settings and just...right clicking and hitting 'open file location' are all important! You can prefer slower touch screen phones (literally - moving your mouse and clicking is faster, I'm not being pedantic), and the inaccuracy of a touchpad screen that requires multiple attempts to get a word right... but you need to know how to use a PC to get a job... in America, at least. You need to know how to organize your desktop. You need to not just leave everything in the downloads folder, etc.
You also need to realize that 'the Cloud' isn't safe. Putting personal information on the internet isn't safe, and never has been. 'The Cloud' is just someone else's computer. It can be hacked, it can go down, etc - saving important things on a usb or external hard drive is incredibly important if you don't want them to just be gone, or inaccessible one day!
Ultimately, phones have less processing power, less good graphics, and smaller screens - they were intended to be a supplement... not a replacement for desktop PCs. Even laptops aren't as good as having a Desktop PC most of the time! The industry has also tricked people into thinking that building your own PC is hard, because it's cheaper for the consumer to buy parts and build a PC on their own... but it's not a challenge at all these days, especially with guides all over the internet.
With AI on the rise, and Gen Z being left behind/refusing to learn how to use a PC, I'm genuinely worried about their job market being overtaken by AI, since that won't need job training on how to navigate a desktop, or how to use MS Word/Excel. And can you imagine the rising pay for programming jobs, as a whole generation enters the workforce with no idea how to even navigate Windows 10/11... much less how to code? My partner does programming work and its stupid how little work it seems like he does for how much he gets paid, but... the older programmers are retiring, and very few are entering the workforce. So his skills are in high demand... and hilariously/sadly, there's times where a remote call is just him helping an end user navigate their cluttered desktop! Which is FAR from what his job entails.
Phones are objectively clunkier and slower to use - it just feels like a desktop is clunkier because no one taught you how to use it. As someone who has grown up using both kinds of technology at their worst and their best... believe me. Trying to accomplish the same task on my phone just 2 days ago, I gave up bc of how annoying it was, and just went to my computer because it was so much faster! Both things have their merits, but refusing to learn how to use a PC isn't a powermove. It's cutting off your nose to spite your face.
You've got to help yourself, if you weren't taught how to navigate a computer - you've got to ask for help or look up guides, because adulthood is here, and it wants you to have 5 years of experience, and a working knowledge of Miscroft Word and Excel at minimum.

this can't be true can it
#computer literacy#genuinely your life will not always be tiktok on your phone#you have to be an adult and work at a desk one day#and if you can't do basic computer navigation you will end up in retail/food service#no company wants to waste precious dollars teaching you what a folder is or how to quickly get around your desktop#they want you to know MS Word and Excel at LEAST#I know Gen Z was failed by older generations by not being taught in school how to use a pc#but you've got to learn if you want to get by in college or be able to get a job#that's just reality#crazy to me how ppl will insist that something worse is somehow better xD#phones are a supplement for when you're away from a pc my friends
