I love how in Monkey Man, when Dev Patel is fighting the brothel owner, he's just fighting because the guy started it. But as soon as he sees the little girl there? The implication? He instantly goes batshit and is ready to kill this motherfucker, chase be damned.

Aurum didn't think he was a xenophobe but he did think that some species were too...delicate. They were too emotional, what with their snot and tears when things got to be too much. It was a terrible evolutionary trait to keep. Your telling others, friend and foe, that your currently vulnerable. A terrible sign of weakness.

Thank the heavens his species didn't have that.

And thank the heavens the two humans at the centre seemed to be the least delicate of their species. Why, what would they do if the children made them too emotional? They'd burst into tears surely!

The poor things.

'Speaking of them' he paused as he saw the two humans in the halls, arguing with someone. Rather...passionately, to the point where half the large hall was taken up by a crowd gathering to watch.

'Wouldn't want to miss a free show' he grinned to himself. How he loved drama.

The gist of the fight was a new co-worker of theirs was fired after they had reported them to the Calis, the first mate of the ship. The reason for was unknown but there were some theories about how it was about workplace bullying, the firee being bad at their job, or perhaps speciesism from the humans.

Aurum watched in glee as words were exchanged, some plain and boring, others witty and clever, with some having him along with the whole crowd gasping. He nodded to himself in approval of the human's cool headedness. If only all emotional species where like them.

Seeing as the argument was going nowhere Aurum decided to take his leave. But the gasping of the crowd drew him right back in. He pushed back to his ideal viewing spot and looked. The humans were acting strangely. One was crying and the other was laughing.

"What happened? Why are they crying why are they laughing?" he whispered.

"I don't know, they were arguing when the humans just...broke." whispered back another.

The humans spoke.

"You...you are the most infuriating being I have ever met...do you feed off all the bullshit you cause?" hissed Kim, tears slipping out from her eyes.

"Oh my god why are you like this? I pity your previous boss." giggles Max, his laughs not all cheery or joyful.

"What, what are you doing? Why are you crying? What's so funny??"

"I'm crying because I am so fed up with your bullshit that it is driving me to tears." seethes Kim. "Congratulations, you are now the second person to make me angry cry!"

"This...this is a new one for me...I've never laughed because of how angry someone made me." the laughs coming Max make Aurum grimace, they don't sound at all natural. It sounded even worse when the laughs turned wet and tears began to threaten to spill.

Aurum had always thought that tears were horrible. Not the emotions but tears. As they are a sign of weakness. A sign you are vulnerable. But watching these two...it was truly unsettling.

To not sob Kim had begun to whisper, her voice quiet but so full of rage. Max didn't care and simply continued with his current volume, allowing the tears to pour into his smirking, giggling mouth.

Their tears did not make Aurum think they are weak. Their tears made Aurum lean back from the horrifying combination of emotions. The quiet rage. The maniacal laughter.

He heard later that the fired co-worker was indeed rather terrible and left that very day with no more fighting or protests.

For you divorce baby Au: Jetstorm and Jetfire. It's a comedy film in my mind, I can just imagine the chaos two (flying?/hovering?) baby orbs can chaos in elite guard headquarters, driving everyone nuts, dodging all the hands trying to grab them, the go to baby sitter who can keep up is Blurr.

they cant fly until they get limbs and little baby thrusters but they sure can use their other powers. also the part about blurr i drew something stupid and then remembered rise of safeguard actually takes place during season 2. have it anyway

I think Curly being fired a long with the rest of the crew even with the recommendation still invokes he did not get what he wanted through that.

Curly was feeling unfulfilled at work and in his career, yes. He was considering quitting along with sticking it out cause it’s what he’s known and feel secure in, even if not satisfied. You think getting fired would be a great thing for him, that’s a part of Jimmy’s scathing thought process and twisting of the cock pit conversation. However, the most important aspect is that Curly got to make that final decision for himself.

Curly does not get to decide if he’s actually ready to take that step and branch out and it likely worsened whatever was spinning in his head into a spiral because now he has to think of what he’s gonna do. It can’t wait and I believe his misplaced idea of Curly in telling the crew was his way of not invoking the same feeling within them. For him to be able to sit on it for months while they couldn’t, it was not fair the same way it isn’t fair to assume he would wanted that as an excuse to leave piloting.

It’s good to note that no one really got to fully choose what they wanted to do. Just a whole lot of reactions…. And inactions.

Whatever People Say I Am - the rock opera!

So...I have created a rock opera using all the songs from WPSIATWIN (some songs have been re-ordered)

The plot tells of a sexually confused young Sheffield lad and the events of a night out in his local city centre

Act 1

View from the Afternoon

Our hero ‘the lad’ gives us a summary of what is going to happen over the course of the next few hours.

Mardy Bum (sung by The Lad’s Dad)

Before he goes out, the Lad witnesses his parents arguing yet again giving him a negative view of relationships.

I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor

At the first club he visits, there is a boy on the dancefloor who catches his attention, but being sexually confused, he doesn’t know how to react or if the signals being given are real. He says to his mates who don’t know of his confusion that they ought to leave.

Fake Tales of San Francisco

At the next club, they are let down by the rubbish band who are playing there, and despite this being a ‘cool’ club, it is still as disappointing as everywhere else in town.

They move onto another club…

You Probably Couldn’t See for the Lights

The Lad sees a ‘The Boy’ who his mates know, who he finds attractive, he finds really hot but he’s too scared to talk to him and instead acts stupid. He goes to the gents and ‘has a word with himself’ that he needs to be straight.

Act 2

Dancing Shoes

The Lad returns to the dancefloor and tries to summon up the courage to talk to a girl because his future is mapped out for him, he has to end up marrying a girl and be straight.

Still Take You Home

Deciding to go for it, he chats up the only girl he finds attractive, ‘Top Shop Princess’ but her boyfriend is there and it all kicks off.

Perhaps Vampires are Too Strong But….

There is a mass brawl and now very drunk, ‘The Lad’ and his mates tell everyone in there exactly what they think of them. 

Riot Van

The police turn up to arrest everyone in the club, but our heroes escape. They run off, the ensemble are fighting and being arrested, and ‘The Lad’ narrates from the side of the stage.

When the Sun Goes Down

The boys get some chips and find a wall to sit on, away from all the trouble. They watch the comings and goings from the red light area across the road. It gets a bit scary and they leave to get a taxi.

Red Light Indicates Doors are Secure

The boys get a taxi home and each recount things that have happened to that night.

Ritz to the Rubble

The next morning, the boys meet by the swings near their houses and dissect the night before.

A Certain Romance

The ensemble act out various scenes of the night, whilst The Lad walks along, narrating about the night before and the town he lives in. He sees The Boy talking to the boy from the dancefloor. and laments that he won’t necessarily get the romance he wants.

Curtain Down

Went and saw Monkey Man today and it was fucking incredible! The action was brutal and the acting and writing were phenomenal. The sound mixing was a tad rough and it was hard to follow when characters mumbled, and there was a lot of shakey cam shots, so if those make you motion sick, be mindful. But the story and the message were amazing and people were cheering and gasping and at the end the whole theater sat in silence while the credits rolled. No one moved or said anything for a while as we all processed what we watched.

Absolute triumph for Dev Patel, especially as a first time writer/director. Even more so considering he starred in it too! It was beautifully written and hopeful while also being hopeful.

Also the soundtrack fucking slaps.
