2024 APRIL POEM-A-DAY CHALLENGE: DAY 1

For this year's challenge, the first prompt of the April PAD Challenge is a "two-for-Tuesday" prompt.

For the first Two-for-Tuesday prompt:

Write a "Best of Times" poem and/or...

Write a "Worst of Times" poem.

Yes, because it's the opening prompt of this challenge, I pulled today's prompt from the popular opening of Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities:

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way—in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only."

Write a poem about the "best of times," "the worst of times," and/or "the everythingest of times."

And remember:

These prompts are springboards to creativity.

Use them to expand your possibilities, not limit them.

#hades would absolutely *control* a lot better on 3DS but i bear a massive grudge against that console. og DS has a million times more charm #3DS is weirdly one of the worst ways to play DS games. they look bad on it both upscaled and 1:1 + the dpad is in an uncomfortable spot #the 3DSs mismatched screens‚ asymmetric controls & 3D feature all made it so much harder for new games to use the screens in cool DS ways #eg holding it sideways or making 2 screens form 1 long screen. 3DS sideways means no 3D‚ bigger top scrn pushes gameplay away from btm scrn #nintendo ds #ds #balatro #baba is you #hades #hades game #hades supergiant #tower bloxx #city bloxx #rogue #undertale #mario #mario kart #super mario kart #mario kart super circuit #zelda #zelda 1 #tloz #the legend of zelda #legend of zelda #metroid #super metroid #nes #snes #windows xp #minesweeper

There’s that post that’s like ‘everyone should get into a tiny niche fandom at least once’ fully agree, that was really fun -- but I would like to add that everyone should get into a fandom where their opinions run counter to major fanon because it really teaches you about sticking to your guns and trusting your interpretation of the text without having to rely on peer validation

I, honestly, need Jason picking up Bruce's arguments during fights and using them back on him. In the most unexpected moments. Just imagine Bruce getting mad during another of their patrols, and in the middle of the screaming session, Jason just switches and doubles him with his own phrases.

Jason: Okay, that's enough. You are benched from being my side-kick.

Bruce, flabbergasted: Excuse me?

Jason: You heard me. This is unspeakable violence you are displaying here, by the way.

Bruce: ???

Bruce: You are not going to berate me for smashing CRANE to the wall a few times.

Jason: Oh, why not?

Bruce: That was— That is justified.

Jason: Well, who do you think you are to decide what is justified and what is not? Huh, lad?

in desperate need of a superhero who has every conceivable superpower...but isn't "overpowered" bc they're mediocre at everything. flight? i mean yeah they can fly. with all the grace of a drunken butterfly, bumping into multiple surfaces in the process, but yeah technically they're flying. super strength? sure with super butterfingers built-in, but it counts. laser eyes but their aim's for shit. they've saved the world as many times as they've endangered it by making a bad situation worse. the "good guys" and "bad guys" are equally apprehensive of having this person on their team

#telepathy but it also picks up static and pop radio stations that can't be filtered out #visions of the future that average 33% accuracy #telekenisis but again dangerously bad aim #teleportation but occasionally you end up in the middle of the pacific #superhearing but they can't choose what they're hearing #x ray vision that induces car sickness #pyrokinesis but I don't need to spell out why it's gotten them banned for life from multiple jurisdictions #can freeze time but can't reliably restart it at the correct speed #the worst part is they're versatile enough that having them on your team is still better than nothing #it's just a huge headache that everyone (including them!) wants to avoid at all costs
