Hyde being a manifestation for Jekyll of desire to exist as someone visibly different in a time where like. Disabled people were lobotomised or put into freak shows their whole lives. Can anyone hear me.

I do think the whole "scary" thing with Hyde being centered around his appearance is very interesting though. It can very much be seen as a critique of the author too. Because it IS ableism. Cause YES, in the time Stevenson was writing J&H, disabled people WERE hated and having a man exist as clearly disabled in some way would have been enough to unnerve people. I think Hyde is a great depiction of how physically and mentally disabled people are treated by the wider society when they actually try to exist within it without watering themselves down.
