hey guys, it’s been a minute! I’m whimsy-of-the-stars, and since my main projects have kinda shifted around, I thought it would be a good time to update my intro! ngl it’s a pretty inopportune time to do a re-intro, since I’m close to the end of one draft and planning two more… it’s just overdue!

some info about me:

I’m gonna start college in the fall majoring in English with a concentration in Creative Writing! :D

learning languages is a passion of mine! I’m focusing on Spanish right now but I’ve dabbled in both Esperanto and Toki Pona (yeah I’m a nerd!)

I’m a video essay enjoyer and possibly maker, eventually

fiction podcasts and actual plays slap???

I have “I want to do too many things” disease and want to try making stories in many different mediums!

ttrpgs are really cool but I have yet to play them with other people! does that stop me from trying to make games… no

elements I like to write: Found family! Chosen ones (+ the subversion of)! Big Emotion™️! Organized crime (idk why it doesn’t leave me alone)! Gay people, of course!

genres I like to write (YA and middle grade): high fantasy, low fantasy, different -punk stuff, sci fi maybe, superheroes, fairy-tale esque, romance, coming of age

I am in a weird stage with a lot of my wips, but a re-intro was overdue so I decided to do it anyway!

wips I am currently writing:

apocalypse story!

status: first draft, 24k (almost done with part 1)

the basics: mg/ya apocalyptic + queer ?coming of age? story and its sequel, except they’re both short so they’re melded into one two-part book! it’s told thru diary entries with lots of extra ephemera glued in! part 1 of 2 is ALMOST done but I’m not inspired to finish it rn! ! I’m not gonna continue with part 2 right after, though, since I still need to plan it!

summary: stressed-out eighth/grader Allison goes to her old hideout in the forest to decompress, but one thing leads to another and she can’t find her way back home. the forest is seemingly ever-expanding, ever-changing, and even when she finds her friends who’ve come to rescue her, they still have to face the actual, real life botanical apocalypse that’s becoming more and more of an issue for the outside world. can they find their way home alive and well? and if they do get home, what will their home city even look like?

extras: fun fact I started this in April 2023 for camp nano and it has taken me this long to write the next 10k words! Also the main character is a bit of a self-insert, but of the person I was in lockdown in 2020!

Both of these have existed in different-ish iterations for years, however I am currently in the weird process of developing both of these into all-new things from an existing groundwork! Neither of them currently have “statuses” because it’s hard to explain where exactly I am right now!

heist story!

the basics: ya fantasy heist novel (maybe eventually a trilogy?) set in a faerie world that rapidly advanced not too long ago into a dieselpunk/decopunk society rife with corruption and crime!

summary: Logical and inquisitive teen Calliope is relatively normal. Her offbeat parents, however, have raised her in a house full of strange curios and old tomes of faery stories. But only when she starts to exhibit unwieldy shadow magic, and her parents invite a prim woman she’s never met before into their home do things really start to get strange. The woman whisks Calliope away through one of the aforementioned curios to a noir hubworld where ancient faerie bloodlines and newfangled magitech collide. Why? To take part in a high-stakes heist with a surprising trio of other teens who want nothing more than to take down the crime boss who runs their town.

extras: this one’s a weird one imo. it’s one of the oldest wips that I am still working on, tho this one had a break of about 3 years!!! also I originally wrote it in hot pink comic sans XD

new superhero story!

(I am also revitalizing this one, but it’s in a way less put-together state! not much to say yet lol!) (also it’s not very new I just call it that)

it’s a ya superhero thing that features teenage (often queer) antiheroes trying to balance their heroic + civilian identities!

featuring: the shittiest entertainment/hero management company you’ve ever seen, shared trauma, gray morality, two different rock bands, and heroes that are at once government agents, influencers, and corporate concoctions!

considering making a “help me name my characters” post because i desperately have to name/rename like 3/4 of all of these characters!!!

old ya romance wip i need to revitalize about two teens enter a competition to make a demo album and end up falling in love in the process (also they’re lesbians XD)

offbeat, ya supernatural + historical fantasy about a girl university student who is buried alive, and upon getting rescued, starts to transform into a strange underworld creature. also features a cute gravedigger :D

a musical about standardized testing (yeah lol) that’s goofy and queer and explores how seniors + juniors are so freaking stressed out all the time lol

Hello, and welcome to my blog! See- I’m making this blog because I found this old trucker-like radio in my grandpas attic when I was cleaning it out some time ago.

I have fond memories from when I was a kid- sitting on grandpas lap while he messed with settings and turned dials until he heard what he wanted from the radio. Once he found a channel, he’d reach out to see if anyone was open to chat on the other end, and he’d ask whatever question I wanted if anyone picked up! I remember being ecstatic whenever that thing came out!

That thing’s practically a dinosaur now, this was back when I was about 5-8 years old, and the machine was already pretty old when grandpa and I had that tradition. The tradition only stopped because the radio broke, and grandpa didn’t have the money or the time to fix it himself. Grandpa was too proud to hire someone to do it for him, too. I guess grandpa kept it all these years- for sentimental reasons.

Now that I have it, I’d love to fix it up, I already found someone who will for a decent price! I’m hoping bringing back the tradition, even just doing it alone, will help keep the memory of my grandpa alive. Plus, who knows, maybe I’ll meet a lot of interesting people out there!

Anyways- I’m hoping to post the transcripts of the conversations I have with the people I meet on this blog. I’d like to think my grandpa would’ve wanted me to share our tradition and pass it on somehow, now that the radio is going to be back in business. I’ll even keep a list running of all the people I meet, so you all can send in questions, and I can ask them!

The radio should be fixed sometime within the next week or so, stay tuned to see who i meet!

Welcome to my blog!

Hello! You can call me Retro, I'm 19 and I write about my favourite characters in my free time!

I'm currently trying to work on a few things that I plan on sharing on Ao3! But writer's block is kicking my ass really hard at the moment, so I thought that maybe making this blog and interacting with other fellow writers/readers would help me a bit with that.

As you've already guessed, I mainly write about My Hero Academia and I really like Shigaraki, so expect a lot of him in my works!

My first language is Italian, so I apologise for eventual mistakes, especially when it comes to basic grammar. I was considering writing my works in both languages, but I don't know- I'll have to think about that.

As I said previously, I made this blog because of writer's block and whatnot, but this blog could also come in handy for updates on my fics (when I'll start posting them obviously) and reader interaction! From what I understood, not a lot of people interact on Ao3 (especially when it comes to leaving comments), so hopefully this blog will help with that!

Another reason for the creation of this blog is the fact that I'm an extremely slow writer and I don't trust myself with a deadline. I'd rather completely finish a fic before starting to post it. On one hand it's good because that'd mean regular updates for readers, but that'd also mean it's going to take me ages to write and post something new. Maybe this blog could be useful for sneak peeks, updates and everything of that sort.

An Immortal Laid to Rest - WIP Intro

Freedom is the death of self, The act of letting go one’s past And the pressures forced upon you. It is a concept only obtainable By leaving behind the wasteland You once called your home. This is a journey of two souls— the ordained archivist Vincent Helio, whose inexperience has doomed him to a stagnant life of discipline as he tries to live up to the title of “Regis Vicaria”. And the shapeshifter Orias, whose idle life is upended when the shadows of his past re-emerge after being buried for over a millennium. Vincent is offered a change of pace when he is asked to investigate a mysterious shrine that has appeared in the Trigala Desert. There he meets Orias while exploring the ruined depths, and the two of them find a chapel where a beast of oil and ink awaits them. Once awakened, it begins to hunt Vincent and will only stop once it has ripped into his body and stolen away a power locked deep within him. Unable to return home, he joins Orias on his travels, discovering the truth about the shrines scattered among the desert, about the beast hunting him, and about his new companion’s past which he has so desperately tried to forget.

● The Protagonists ●

Vincent Helio - The current Regis Vicaria, an archivist ordained by the Deities to record the history and status of the world. However, having stepped into the role at such a young age, he has had to spend the last several years training in the city of Trin. Yet despite all this, he still can’t seem to meet the expectations set before him.

Orias - A shapeshifter from a time long forgotten. He has been trapped within the Trigala Desert for over a millenium, yet he has found a quiet life for himself in the little town of Maramagia as the town’s medic. He would have been happy to spend the rest of his immortal experience here, but one thousand years is a long past, and that past has finally caught up with him.

● The Antagonist ●

Niv - A shapeshifter who was once a brilliant researcher and leader who now seeks a body that can stand up against the ones that took everything from him. After realizing the potential power lying within Vincent, he will stop at nothing to steal away the young Regis, even if it means crossing paths with a former brother-in-arms.

● The Supporting Cast ●

Briar Fulcanelli - A former apprentice and long time friend of Orias. She was a traveling doctor before eventually moving back to Maramagia to help her old teacher. A strong-willed woman, she is one of the few people that can coerce Orias out of his physical and mental isolation.

Reese Cypriene - The retainer and mentor of Vincent. He was close to the previous Regis, Vincent’s father, and studied under him as an apprentice. Now he teaches the new Regis all he knows, his strict tutelage being an excuse for his fear of losing another person he cherishes.

Writeblr Re Intro

Friends and fiends, I welcome you to the reimagining of the direction of my humble writeblr. Mind the angst on the way in, the way around, and the way out. Take some fluff if you’d like, the found family is no extra cost. I am your gracious host, Eve (or Noah), who will be introducing you to the motley cast of characters floating from my brain to your page.

A New Infection is old, mostly abandoned but has a small host of short stories for your entertainment. Featuring three children fighting off an apocalyptic world of zombies, Blue, Zach, and Freddie are struggling to get along in a world that demands survival. Have a gander under the matching tag for related asks, lore, and teasers. Keep an eye on some of the characters for reappearances in future collaborative works with my delightful bestie

Take a turn and feast your eyes on the nebulously titled WIP, A Quest of Cards and Calamity, or House of Cards. Four acquaintances, Alex, Bendis, Cuckoo, and Maggie, cross the continent to retrieve a gadget for their mutual and only friend, Elestial. After the goddesses were banished by a noble adventuring party, the quartet fight through a world that just lost its major source of power. If found family, early industrial technology, and magic are your style, this is the WIP for you.

In the final corner is the most beloved work. Disregard the scaffolding and construction paper, Not My Magical Destiny is a short story being slowly expanded when inspiration strikes. Follow Kodi, the best friend of the chosen one, Gabriel, in a world Kodi can’t keep up with. Kodi learns to set boundaries and reforge relationships with customer-turned-queer platonic partner, Sofia. The modern world clashes with the seven deadly sins and their heavenly virtues in a unique perspective of the classic modern fantasy novel.

Childhood: 

Family: She grew up in a loving home with a mom, a dad and a brother. Most of her time as a child was spent with one of her family members.  

She often accompanied her father to his secret workplace (that nobody knew about) and learned all the secrets of his actual work(place). From a young age, he taught her about computer science, programming and AI. Luce had always been a nerd about many topics. But what her father had to tell, was her favorite one of all. 

Her brother Adam was obsessed with quantum physics. She also spent quite some time with him. Either playing or listening to what he had to say. Sadly, it all had to end when he began his studies and had barely any time for her (much to his regret, he loved his little sister).

Her mother was an astrophysicist. Similar to the other family members, Dorothy taught her many things too. She was the one who took care of her the most. They would spend many nights outside in the garden. They would set up a camp and a very good telescope to watch the stars and planets very closely.

When nobody was home, especially when she was younger, her uncle and aunt took care of her often. A love for science seemed to run in their family. Then they were a neuroscientist and an anthropologist. You can guess how they entertained Luce.

School: Luce was homeschooled. It does not come as a surprise that Luce would have been underwhelmed if she stayed at a normal school. She didn't solve complicated math equations at five years old, but she definitely already understood how to multiply numbers up to 100. Teachers also often got frustrated with her. She would always ask them the kind of questions she would ask at home, and always wanted to learn something that was not age appropriate.

Her parents could afford it and even knew a teacher personally, who would become Luce's teacher for quite a few years. He too helped raise her of sorts.

Friends: Being homeschooled, Luce didn't make too many friends in her life. She did go to the park occasionally to play with other children, but didn't really make any long lasting connections. Additionally, she would also be rejected sometimes. After all, she was a kid who they knew didn't fit into their school, meaning she was not seen as one of them. An outsider. 

As she got older she knew that she really lacked something during her childhood.

Conclusion: Luce had a wonderful homelife, but wasn't good at making deeper friendships, therefore having weaker social skills.

Personality:

Type: INTJ/Architect (possibly)

Definition: The INTJ personality type is Introverted, iNtuitive, Thinking, and Judging, which means they are energized by time alone, focused on big picture ideas and concepts, led by logic and reason, and organized. This combination of personality preferences produces people who are analytical, innovative, and strategic. 

Interview: The Luce from this interview will be from the year 2093, so her personality might be a little different. Though I might make one for 2045. I will link it in here too.

Protoversions:

1: I think it began when I was about seven years old. Like most little girls, I thought stuff like fairies and superpowers were super cool! So I imagined a hero who was something like that. She could fly, had fairy wings (sometimes) and was a robot. Fun fact: The robot part was inspired by Lego NInjago's Zane. I remember there was that one scene, where he opened his chest and revealed the mechanical parts inside. Protoversion 1 liked to do the same. Now, this little world I had was purely fantasy, no science fiction yet. (I didn't see being a robot as Sci fi as a kid). Protoversion 1 was an absolute Mary Sue. She had all the powers in the world! You see, there were a bunch of hearts inside her torso, every single one of them holding a different power: Fire, water, lighting, poison and maaaany more! Silly seven year old me…

2: When I was about ten or eleven years old, I absolutely fell in love with astronomy. I was obsessed! All I wanted was space, the universe and the cosmos. Logically, this is where my new fantasy world began to take place. Protoversion 2 didn't have wings anymore and wasn't a robot anymore either. But they were the queen of a star system. I think I must have had something with elements and stuff like that, because the system had a bunch of planets that were all themed after different elements and other stuff like that. They even had names! I drew a picture of it all these years ago:

With Protoversion 2, Sci fi elements began to take place, though it still was a world that was mostly fantasy. (Verum was meant to start 2000 years in the future, where they live in space)

3: Protoversion 2 didn't exist long, then she soon was replaced by 3. I think I was about 11 or 12 years old. And oh god was I weird and edgy! Ewgghhhh! (I mean, I'm probably still slightly edgy, but I was serious about that shit during that time!!!) I had the wonderful idea to create a secret organization! They were called the Spreatures, which is a mix between spirit and nature. At the time, I believed in subliminals and that humans had powers buried deep inside of them. And the Spreatures used these powers to help save the world! Their leader was called XVerum and later just Verum. Verum is the Latin word for truth. Today's Verum doesn't actually associate with that meaning though.

4/Verum: I suddenly changed all my views when I was about 13 years old and the actual Verum came to be! My nerdy ass couldn't leave science alone and changed up the whole world again. This time: Space, robots, aliens and the attempt to be scientifically accurate. When I was 14, I think, I began writing the first three parts of Verum as a final school project.  The first part was called How to be Immortal and it was what I call a Bridge today. This bridge played 2000 years in the future though.  The second part was Birth of a Digital Mind, which is actually the third part in Verum I: The Awakening. Discovery of the Undead and Interdimensional Beings was the third and last part. How one might notice, this part obviously had fantasy elements. Verum was at the very beginning supposed to be Sci fi fantasy, but I scrapped that idea. This is the first drawing of Verum:

Luce Balton: Verum obviously needed an actual name, especially if I wanted to write about her before she became Verum. I attempted to write the beginning of the book 2000 years in the future. But it didn't work. So what do you do, when you don't know how to begin a story? You jump two millennium into the past to tell the whole fucking story from the beginning! Fucking hell… This is the first drawing of Luce:
