Reach for the Stars: Day 3

Only 130 words today. I was honestly hoping to write more than that, but I'm working 2 jobs now and almost forgot to do this before heading in for the overnight one. Which means my word count for tomorrow will (hopefully) be a little higher than this since I'll try to write again when I get home.

It's hard to not be disappointed in myself because my counts are so much lower than I'm used to producing, whether it's for an event or me just actually writing. I keep reminding myself every word matters and is more than I had before I started.

When did this happen?! I knew I was close, but the numbers are usually so slow and steady, I was really surprised when I got on a saw the number!

Thank you guys so much for deciding to follow me. It is truly a joy whenever I see a new person discover my stories! I love seeing all your reactions and hearing from some of you that my stories have brought some joy and comfort to your lives. As a writer, that is all I ever truly wanted out of sharing my work, to see people enjoy it. I know I have been a very slow poster over the last year and I haven’t gotten to a lot of my asks, but I truly appreciate you all for sticking with me and continuing to read what I post.

I usually write a snippet when I reach a milestone but this time I wanted to do something a little different that involves all of you: a choose your own adventure story! This will be a several part story that will be directed by all of you! At the end of each section there will be a poll so that you can vote on what path the protagonist should take. I’ve never done anything like this before, but it should be a lot of fun!

The very first thing I need to decide is what type of story you guys want to read (I have a guess but we’ll still vote 😜) So here’s the first poll and we’ll get started!

ELA, grades 5+, Free-writing activity Note: I made a Google Sheet that lists all of these words, plus their categories (tweaked to be school appropriate), and includes a simple randomizer. Plotto is an old reference book that is now in the public domain. Credit to garykac for hosting it on github with a much better randomizer.

Writing Activity:

Provide students with a prompt to begin writing a story (perhaps using a random Plotto entry). For every line of dialogue, they must use the "Words for Said Randomizer" to randomly select a word to use instead of said, one that communicates more tone and intention. As the students write, they must improvise the flow of the story in order to match the tone of the randomly selected said-word.

Emphasize to your students that the writing does not need to be great, but that it should be challenging.

Edit: People, I’m an English and creative writing double major in college; I understand that there’s nothing wrong with simply using “said.” This was just for fun, and it comes in handy when I need to add pizzazz.

not to sound like a boomer, but I need some people to learn how to write emails in a semi-professional (at the very least) format so you're not cold emailing a business/potential employer/any other stranger about formal matters in the exact same way you'd DM a close friend on instagram

the formality/language can loosen up in the email chain once you've established a rapport and you match the other person if they're being less formal, but please don't have the very first email you send a stranger be written in all lowercase ultra-casual sms slang with no greeting or signature and a billion emojis

gojo's relationship with sleep was… complicated. he seemed to view it as an optional activity, like flossing or paying taxes. you, on the other hand, considered sleep a sacred ritual, and dragging him to bed felt like trying to convince a hyperactive hummingbird to take a nap.

"psst," he whispered, loud enough to be heard in the next apartment. "hey."

you groaned, pretending to be a particularly heavy sleeper.

"hey," he repeated, poking your shoulder. you swatted his hand away, a silent leave me alone conveyed through the power of sleepy aggression.

"sweetheart. darling. my bestest friend. my favorite person in the entire universe. sugar-plum. chickadee. kitten-kins. schnukapussy."

"what?" you mumbled, your voice thick with sleep.

"do you want to play a game? like, a card game or something?"

"what?" you repeated, your brain still trying to process the concept of coherent sentences. "it's the middle of the night. why are you awake?"

"i'm bored. my brain won't shut up. it's like a radio stuck between stations."

"and you thought waking me up would fix that? now we're both going to be miserable," you grumbled, turning over.

"…so, about that game?" he asked, sounding genuinely hopeful.

you stared at him, resisting the urge to express your frustration with a well-placed pillow. "this is what happens when you eat a whole bag of candy before bed. you turn into a nocturnal gremlin."

he shrugged. "oops."

"don't 'oops' me. i'm trying to sleep."

"but you're awake now," he pointed out, with infuriating logic.

"that's not the point!" you sighed, pulling the covers over your head.

he gave you a look that said, "please? with a cherry on top?" and, against your better judgment, you caved. you sighed, pulling him closer. "fine. no games. but i'll do the hair thing. the one that makes you sleepy."

he settled against you, all warm and impossibly comfortable. "until i'm asleep?"

"yes," you said, keeping you eyes trained on him. "until you're asleep."

as you ran your hands through his white locks, he was out in minutes, snoring softly. you smiled, finally feeling yourself drift off.

then, just as you were about to fall asleep, your brain decided to stage a revolt. wide awake. you stared at the ceiling, wondering if you could convince gojo to share his ability to function on zero sleep. to say the least, this would be a long night.

There should be a fanfic writing game called the showrunners challenge where someone writes a story and partway through someone else can play things like "actor leaves after 4000 more words" or "topic now too politically sensitive due to unforeseen world events" or "lost rights to that reference"

okay but why are so many medical professionals focused solely on getting their patients back to their jobs and not actually helping the patient feel better. like you will be literally unable to digest food or eat or do anything and they'll be like "that's not good we gotta get you BACK to WORK!!!!!!!!" and so they drag their heels and take up a bunch of time and give you treatments that don't work or take forever to give you ones that do and when you tell them. hey i still don't feel good the first thing is "BUT YOUR JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

fuck my stupid job. i'm dying. i'm a person not a walking job. help me. a lot of medical professionals will refuse to do their job and instead lecture you about being unable to go to your job instead. unreal.

Reach for the Stars: Day 25

233 words so far today. I say 'so far' because I want to make an earnest attempt to not only write when I get home from the main job, but also for a little when I get home from the part-time one, too. Not sure how well that'll work out because I like to nap between shifts, but we'll see.

Ok, I'm definitely doing this. I even set reminders in my calendar - my plan is when I get home from work, I'll do at least 100 words. It should be easy for me because I type stupid fast, especially when the ideas are there and whooo boy are they there! Will I finish any of my WIPs? Probably not - there are far too many of them and my brain jumps from idea to idea. Will I get further along in my stories? Yup! I sure will!

Final manifestations for Book 7?

I'm trying REALLY hard not to build up any solid expectations, because I wanna go in ~fresh~! they're already so far away from anything I thought would happen (not in a bad way, I'm just accepting that I'm on Miss Yana's Wild Ride at this point and we're seeing this thing through 'til the end, by gum). so it's nothing too major, but:

they've been handing new crying expressions out like candy lately, I want to see some delicious Malleus tears.

honestly I want everyone to cry buckets. their tears sustain me. the more Silver angst specifically I get the happier I am.

When I tell people they can simply shift with daydreaming and they hit me with "but I daydream all the time, why haven't I shifted?"

Because you perceive it as a daydream and not a actually reality you are living and experiencing.

If you are daydreaming and you are so focused on the fact you are "not there yet" or the fact you wish to be "actually" experiencing that daydream right now is the reason why you didn't shift through the daydreaming.

Shifting doesn't take much, and telling yourself otherwise is sabotaging yourself. Realise your dr is real and take it in. Immerse yourself in your dr and simply be there and don't overthink it.

The moment he stepped into his apartment, water met his feet, and Dick held back a suffering groan. His apartment was flooded.

He is sore, tired, and just wanted to lay down. Sleep.

Plans changed, apparently, looking at the water. Taking measured breaths, he makes his way to his small bedroom, taking out all his vigilante stuff and packed them in a bag, thankfully dry. It was annoying, but what could he do?

Certainly not go back to the mansion.

With everything stored away, the bag was slightly overpacked, it didn't dether him as he returned to the hallway just as his landlord came. Others were already outside complaining about their own flats and Dick left for now, he would... handle this after he got rest.

Dick doesn't ponder long on who to call, not really. Jason is out of question, Bruce isn't even considered.

He didn't want to leave Bludhaven... which meant there really was only one option.

"Hey Danny? My flat got flooded, could I...—"

"I didn't even finish asking—"

"What—"

"Danny, I'll be over in... 10, thank you, really."

His coworker had an enthusiastic response to his request, Dick felt unbearably fond of it. Him.

Or, Danny is a Detective in Bludhaven that occasionally visits Gotham.

The thing is, Dick figured it out pretty quickly when he started working in Bludhaven, that Danny was genuine in his business.

Not corrupted, not bought, not fake.

It made him a big target in the city. One that Officer Grayson and Nightwing made sure to protect. He, admittedly, admired the man at the police station quite a bit.
