I didn't write as much as I did last year, but 90k is still a lot, so I'm happy!

I did kind of burnout a bit at the end of the year because things got stressful, but I still did really good :D

In January of 2024 I wrote (according to my logs) approx. 21,484 words across my various projects!!

Which is a personal improvement from November and December 2023, where I barely managed to hit 15,000 words in either month :D

I honestly thought this year was a wash - with a dissertation, family drama, and severe case of Burnout™ (partially ongoing) I figured I'd been too busy to engage much. It turns out I was a busier bee than I had realised.

This year, I wrote a total of 213,261 words, spread across 196 fics!

December Writing Stats + 2024 Round Up

Thank god it's over, because I was running out of colours.

Okay lets start with December. I only set myself one goal, lets refresh our memories, shall we?

So this month I'm giving myself a strict deadline: Seasons must be finished by 31st December. Why that one? Well, it should be the easiest, it was never meant to be this long and it started from an ask from the Spotify Wrapped prompt tag game, submitted by the lovely @hbyrde36. I'm not taking a prompt from 2023 into 2025, dude, that's just fucking ridiculous, this is so overdue. It's happening this month!!

Anyone want to guess how that turned out? So anyway, I'll be taking Seasons into 2025 with me...

But! I got stuck into FOBD. I added another 5k to that and the first draft of the first chapter is very nearly done!

This month I wrote over 3k for a Corroded Coffin event that had a 2k word limit... those who know me know this is SOP. 😆 So I'll be posting it outside the event once it's finished... shut up, it grew legs!

I also wrote my first Holiday Drabbles! Didn't make the deadlines, but I still wrote them. 😁

Writing Reflections:

This year, majority of the writing I finished & posted fit one of two categories: "event" or "I had this fun little idea and wrote it out real quick". I think what I can draw from that is twofold. First, I really do thrive when writing is a community activity. I like to write when it's part of a greater effort at engaging with people and building friendships and spreading joy. Second, I got way happier about writing when it began shifting from something I felt like I had to do / should be doing, to something I could just do for fun with quick little things and then toss out into the world. Majority of my fics this year were only cursorily checked over for SPAG issues or not beta'd at all, and a significant number of the short ones were written directly into the ao3 text box and posted without further thought, including "A Guide to Putting Your ADHD Gremlin to Sleep," which ended up being one of my most popular works of the year & honestly all time. This is not to say I put no thought into anything I wrote, because my other most popular work ("So I Choke on Sun") is one I spent weeks working on, despite how short it is, because I knew what I wanted to try to convey in it, and I ended up intensely proud of how it turned out. But I think I wrote so much this year because I really fell back in love with writing for fun first and foremost, and writing as an act of community involvement as a close second, and I really hope to carry that into the new year!

no one asked, but i still want to records the stats for 2024 somewhere for posterity.

Total posted word count: 1,035,503 Across two fandoms (HOTD/Rutshire Chronicles), 37 fics and 12 pairings. Includes five multichapters started and finished in 2024, two of them over 120k words. 13 of the fics written in 2024 were gifts (35%) Wrote more canon (19) than modern (14), also did magic, historical, vampire, etc. AUs. Most common pairing is still Daemyra (28). Most common tags/tropes are loss of virginity (16) and breeding kink (8). Honorary mention to parent/child incest (5) - it was certainly a year of it lol. Just by self-assessment, 10 fics had high angst levels, but 14 had none (but my tolerance for it might be skewed lolol). Titles were mostly my own, but when it comes to lyrics, Taylor Swift took the cake (8 fics named after her lyrics). Hozier came second with 4 fics, Chappell Roan and Charli XCX tied for the third with one title each. Fic that got the most kudos: "you should see your faces" (2,273 since April). Fic that I enjoyed writing the most: "hold me like a knife" Most productive month: April (120,133 words published) Least productive month: October (50,059 words published)

Huge thanks to everyone who supported me throughout this year: my readers, my discord friends (who have also become irl friends tbh), people offline who were ready to listen to me yapping and understanding of me cancelling plans to write my stuff. Without our discord server, I certainly wouldn't have written even a tenth of this crazy word count - support really matters in these things.

With that, writing is done for 2024 - let's see if I keep doing this in 2025. ;)

Summer Podfic Stats!

Back in January, I said I wanted to do this monthly but then I instantly got too caught up in life. However, this summer was my most productive season yet so I thought I'd do a little stats round up for the season ~

January-August Quick Stats:

Summer Round Up!

JUNE: I waffled on including June in my "summer roundup" but technically my summer starts mid-June. It just so happens that right after work ended, we moved. And it took a minute for my podfic space to be set up. So, in June, I made 1 hour & 41 minutes of podfic. It was quite literally just Chapter 47 of the Sansukh multivoice project. I posted more in June but it was all recorded/edited in May.

JULY: July brought 7 hours, 31 minutes, and 53 seconds of podfic. Much of this was not posted until August when Summer Podfic Swap revealed but it was all recorded in July! In July, my most recorded for event was Summer Podfic Swap with 11 podfics. My longest podfic was The Jedi Within at 3 hours & 16 minutes. My shortest podfic was Red Bones at 6 minutes & 37 seconds.

AUGUST: In a weird coincidence, I made 7 hours, 32 minutes, and 38 seconds of podfic in August. (I've never had two months in a row be almost the exact same.) My most recorded for event was again Summer Podfic Swap with 19 podfics recorded for it this month (I used one podfic I'd recorded another month for the exchange). I also began recording for CCPA this month and did one Pod Together project. My longest podfic in August was Aliit Ori'shya Taldin (Family is More Than Blood) at 37 minutes & 28 seconds. My shortest podfic was Race at 1 minute & 11 seconds.

SUMMER SWAP BREAKDOWN:

For my main giftee, I made 14 podfics that totaled up to 4 hours & 12 minutes of podfic. Some of these treats were also treated to others! I made 12 podfics as treats for Flowerparrish. Again, many of these were also treated to others. These treats totaled up to 2 hours & 7 minutes of podfic. In total, there was 7 hours & 16 minutes of podfic that I posted for the event. I recorded 51,787 words! The top fandoms I recorded for the exchange were DC(+ crossovers) at 15 & Star Wars(+ crossovers) at 12. This includes the three SWxDC I recorded (so it would be 12 DC and 9 SW if not)! I did 5 DPxDC podfics, despite how recently I got into it again. The other fandoms included were Mass Effect (2), Stranger Things (2), & The Locked Tomb (1). Crossing over with DC, I had one Tomb Raiders and one Leverage.

WRITING: I actually wrote this summer! I wrote 3 works that can be read now and have more that will reveal for later events! All writing was for DPxDC x Stop trying to make the Olympic Village Tinder Trend happen, Dick! (Jay/Roy, Batfam dynamics, side DP characters) x gold medals and golducks (POV Damian, Jazz Fenton is an Olympic fencer & his hero, Pokemon Go shenanigans) x falling in the dead of night (eyes so green) (Danny/Jason soulmate AU)

2024 Writing Stats

What a beautiful year it has been. In July of 2023, I wrote my first piece of fanfiction. I didn’t do any writing stats for last year, mainly because I didn’t really put any stock into what I was doing. I didn’t think it’d turn into my obsession, but here we are!

Now that I’m a full year (and then some) into writing fanfic, I’ve got loads of data to share, but I’ll try to keep it short and interesting.

These were my ending stats from last year. I figured I’d include them to see basically a starting point for this year. So this is how the year started.

And this is how it’s going. As you can see, there were some big changes! Let me give y’all some cool breakdowns.

In 2024, I:

Wrote 277,212 words!

My fics were hit 9,357 times!

I got to experiment in writing. I tried fluff and dark fics, but I’m still doing the best with smut and angst. 

“I’m Pregnant” with Ikemen Prince is my highest kudo and viewed fic (impressive since it’s multi-chaptered and you can only kudo it once.) It’s a fluff/angst set of drabbles and headcanons about the princes’ reactions to reader being pregnant.

Memento was my highest kudo and viewed fic for a very long time. That was honestly the first smut I ever wrote. First smut and first fanfic, really. It’s reassuring to see that it still gets a lot of love.

Memento (Gilbert - IkePri), The Perfect Distraction (Okazaki - CxM), Between His Teeth (Gilbert - IkePri), and Incomparable (Nokto/Dahlia/Licht - IkePri) are all smut fanfics.

I wanted to add in my hit stats since Deceit and Decay is in here, which is a multi-chapter dark long fic I’m in the progress of writing. It won’t receive as many kudos due to being multi-chapter, but it has gotten a lot of views, and that’s pretty cool. I think having fluff, angst, and smut all on my top viewed fics is really fucking cool. It kind of makes me feel like I’ve managed to do something memorable with each genre I’ve tried.

I joined Tumblr May 28th, 2024. I guess I have a thing about starting things mid-year, haha. There are a lot of small ideas and headcanon posts that aren’t listed on my ao3, but there are no easy Tumblr stats for writing.

I did, however, create my first OC this year, and two others that I really love as well. I made an RP blog for one of them! I've gotten art done of all of them! And countless stories were written for all of them - some only in my head, but same same.

All-in-all, it has been an amazing year for me as a writer. I hope to do more next year, and do bigger and better things as well. I'd like to play around with ideas more. I'd like to write more long fics. I'd like to have an overwhelming amount of stories written for people to feast on.

A Year of Dreamling - Here's to the next Million!

A year ago today I started posting my first ever Dreamling fic! (It's a Shadowhunters crossover I am still, to this day, very proud of.)

In the past year, I have written 75 Sandman fics with a total of 871,718 words posted (not including a Certain Fic). An average of 11.6k! (I never denied being a wordy bastard.)

Including Colour Forecasting (which is, as of this post, has 567,326 words written, and 137k posted), so my half would be another 283,663 words.

1,155,381 words in the past twelve months seems wild to even contemplate, and yet here we are!

That also pushed me over 5 million total words posted to Ao3, and more than 4 million total hits across all my fics - which is still absolutely incredible to think about!

With Season 2 still on the horizon, and the Sandfam still wonderfully active in all sorts of different spaces (the entity formerly known as Twitter, Tumblr, Discord, Ao3, Pillowfort, etc), I can't wait to see what the next few years will bring!

I love looking at AO3 stats because I can go year by year and see how much I wrote in a given year. What was wrong with me in 2017, I barely wrote at all. What the hell happened this year, I wrote more this year than almost any other two years combined. The jump from word counts below 50k to word counts above 125k from 2019 to 2020 is fucking hilarious, I can't even list all the factors that went into that!

Also somehow I had an actual social life this year and a busy work schedule and STILL wrote over 200k words??? Who is she and how can I keep being her forever.

Crossovers

Who loves crossovers? I love reading and writing them! So much so, I've been nicknamed the Crossover Queen in one of my servers. And now I'm curious -

My fellow writers: If you write them, how many Crossover fics do you have? How does that work out in percentages? Do you stick with the same fandoms or do you dabble in many? Do you find you have one or two main fandoms you like to mix with everything else under the sun? (Looking at my own list, that's exactly what *I* do lol)

Stats: Out of 443 works (over 3 million words which also include: 27 art posts, 10 podfics and 2 collabs), 47 of those are CROSSOVERS! (for a total of 612,031 words) hitting around 40 different fandoms?

(I lost track trying to break it down, especially with things that bleed into each other. Do I count each type of Star Trek as separate or as a whole?)

That's only 10% of my fics! And only 18% of my total words! But I still feel like I've written a ton of them!

Still percolating things and still excited about it, I just wanted to get something that would finish sooner done for that sweet hit of dopamine actually finishing something would give me. Conference fic: 7867 I am that far in and they haven't actually attended the conference at all yet. Ooops? I feel like this one is going to be a bitch to name. I made Langdon the baby of his family and his sister is super fun to write (she conveniently lives where they are attending said conference). I don't want to say too much because I like a little mystery.

I had intended to do a post of headcanons and such for a Battlestar Galactica fusion for today with Kingdon week (Spec Fic) but I don't think that's going to happen. Sad, because that was such a rush last week when it popped into my head (when I had no time to do anything, of course). Maybe some other time.
