Yeah it's this post where I talk about how Jayce has the vibe of, "Intimidatingly hot girl that is so hot no one has ever asked her out before so she thinks she's unlovable."

I think Mel thought Jayce was a fuckboi. I mean, look at him! He totally looks like a muscle jock with a 1000 watt smile, who seems to soak up the adoration of the crowd, who seems based on his looks like he must have a vibrant sex life of sleeping with whoever he wants. To my eyes, Mel 100% thought that by sleeping with Jayce she would just be one of many and she could use the influence from that encounter to continue to manipulate him, but it would be a totally casual, sexual encounter.

Her belief he's a fuckboi seems to be confirmed when he's not there in the morning after they sleep together. You can see what's going through her head. Basically, I think it fits that if Mel's not his actual first, she could very well be near his first. Jayce has been busy lately! To be fairly honest, he wasn't technically adopted, more so kidnapped. But they weren't doing anything wrong to him or using him as a ransom, so there's a redeeming factor.

Did he like it? No, not at first. He wanted to go home and see his friends and not be in the clutches of pure evil right now. But over time he grew to accept it and despite his better judgment, he grew a liking to the Beasts.

He doesn't quite forgive Shadow Milk cookie for pushing him and his friends of the spire, so he was quite iffy around him. He also didn't make any effort to apologize, so the distrust was understandable. But the two made it work, with time.

Mystic Flour cookie, oh how she scared him. As monotone and expressionless she was, something about her just intimidated him. But he got used to her and even started looking to her for guidance. He knows Shadow Milk cookie was the fount of knowledge, but in his eyes Mystic Flour cookie was the smartest and probably most reasonable person in the group.

He never went anywhere NEAR Burning Spice cookie. And with very valid reason. The guy was aggressive and always looking for either a challenge or something to pulverize into dust. so obviously it was going to be harder to hide it, mainly because you lived together, but also because she was asked 24/7 to do a new house tour. she eventually did it, but without your office being in the video. it worked out well in the beginning but then people started wondering what was in the last room/your office/. you were worried about it, while she ignored it and acted like no one had asked about it. that of course didn´t help and only grew more suspicion to the last room. she eventually had enough and started asking you if she could say it, following up with her saying that her fans won´t come after you for it.

On-stream: she teases you, every time she has a chance too, and i mean EVERY time. she normally does that a lot, but not this much. she also doesn´t like when anyone else teases you. you´d say she´s possessive, but if you actually said that when she´s streaming, you would be banned from entering her office for a few months(at least).

Off-stream: she´s WAY sweeter when no one is watching, mostly because she doesn´t have that evil look in her eyes all the time. and then she´s with you so ofc she´ll behave(if you ask nicely). she would also kiss you more passionately than when she´s in front of chat/she doesn´t need chat to spread pics of you kissing all over twitter, that´s why/and she also hugs you more gently. over all she´s just softer with you but don´t tell her that.

she loves you, even more than chat loves her.

how chat found out: they didn´t really think that you were dating at first, but just some affectionate roommates. maybe it was because they didn´t think that she would be dating anybody/or maybe you looked too good to be dating silver wolf hehe/. but either way, you ARE dating, you just thought her chat knew already. but when you found out they didn´t/because they called you her roomie, not her partner/you tried to show more affection.

so when you were home while she was streaming you made some food for her. walked in and gave her the food, after you just left a little kiss on her cheek. leaving the chat stunned, she just started eating her food, acting like nothing happened. she asked if anything was wrong and they flipped out even more, like wtf they just kissed you. she didn´t think it was that big of a deal and tried to move on. but they wanted answers, she didn´t care ofc, and didn´t answer any of their questions. after she was done eating and she just continued the stream like normal. you on the other hand was a little worried that she got upset, because you just kissed her on the cheek, and in front of all her viewers. she eventually revealed to chat that you were dating, and they should shut up abt it. only because she didn´t want you to worry.

On-stream: she doesn´t really care if you´re there or not, but id happier with you there. she shows affection, but not much. the reason: she doesn´t want to ruin her reputation.

Off-stream: when she´s not streaming or in a call you play with her instead. she loves when you play with her, wanting to share her interest with you. she does this while hugging you/maybe from behind/and kisses you to distract you.

she loves games, but loves you even more.

Seele

How chat found out: they properly noticed the person walking around in the background all the time/since her streaming setup is in the living room/and they didn´t know who it was other than a person with [h/c] colored hair. they tried to ask about it, but Seele didn´t pay them any mind and moved on. she kinda thought they were joking and already knew who you were/but there kinda clueless and thinks she kidnapped someone/but ofc you´re just her partner and she didn´t force you to live with her. actually, it was your idea to live with her. so they should quit thinking that.

but anyway, she was streaming(like usual)and she was in a call with some friends/like Sampo, Bronya, Natasha, etc/and she kinda got into an argument with one of them/Sampo/. because he wasn´t playing well enough and it turned into a thing of them dissing each other. the others wanted to stop them, but they didn´t in fear of getting into it as well, so they kinda just listened in on it. she then revealed one of his secrets, witch lead to him saying that you and Seele were dating, and not just roomies. she then got confused, and asked f they didn´t know/bc she really fricking thought they did, oh well/the chat went wild. and when she found out they were clueless the whole time, she just laughed her ass off.

On-stream: she doesn´t have you around that much/other than in the background/but when you are there beside her, she has most of her attention fixated on you. she likes kissing, hugging and sitting with you, even if in front of everyone. and she doesn´t get embarrassed about it.

Off-stream: if possible she´s even more affectionate, the only reason is because she doesn´t want you to be embarrassed. but if you gave her permission, she would be all over you at all times, at parties, events, on stream, in front of friends and family... you get it.

How chat found out: she streams a lot, like a ton. so of course you´d either get home while she´s streaming or just be home in general. she´s very busy so you don´t say anything other than "i´m home", when you check on her after being out. or other times it´s you delivering food to her. in general chat mainly thinks that your just some friends living together, but thats only because they don´t know that you´re dating, and you don´t plan on revealing it right now. maybe because you either were busy, didn´t want to or you were scared of her viewers reaction/but she does comfort you, and tell you that they will accept it/.

the way they knew you were dating, was mainly because of you two being stupid. she was on a little break/since she had been streaming the last 5-6 hours, with only 3-4 breaks(send help)/and you walked into her room giving her a snack and kissed her on the cheek. that would have been okay normally, but this time she forgot to turn off the mic. leaving you to realize that after you looked at the chat, because it was going wild. you both then got embarrassed and she turned the stream off. she was supposed to stream for a few more hours but ditched the idea. and in the next week or so she now had to introduce you, when you were fully ready of course.

On-stream: she doesn´t show that much affection, since she gets easily embarrassed and looks almost identical to a tomato. but sometimes she will do cooking streams with you, and try to show off a little/that would be even cuter if you were a baker or cook, just saying(totally not trying to say anything)/but it doesn´t end that well.

Off-stream: she loves to hug, kiss and cuddle you. she feels so much more confident when you´re the only one watching, so she tries to show that she loves you as much as she can. she also feels safer when its only you and her.

she loves her job, but not as much as she loves you.

Not a Agathario thing but simply an Agatha thing I'm mad about.

Billy knows more magic and engages with more magic than Agatha. It fucking pissed me off and I have let it simmer for too long. We got more scenes of Billy talking technical magic than Agatha which is utter bullshit, Agatha as established in Wandavision is someone who loves the analysis, she loves picking apart what makes a spell work, why it works and more, she's the type of witch to have a grading system for all the other witches like she's Ash Ketchum who's going to be the Pokemon master and defeat all the other trainers.

Comics Agatha yaps so much about magic it gets annoying, in an endearing way but like yeah this woman knows what she's talking about and she sure as hell isn't stupid enough to not be able to survive without her 'purple' (it's adorable okay I love that Nicky calls it that). In the finale we have Agatha do like three spells, three? Motherfucker that lady forced the scarlet witch down the trauma central memory lane and had enough audacity to comment about her dead parents after she watched them die, she's got guts, she's got balls. She's not gonna mess around when it comes to a battle unless she's playing her opponent, she's fucking ruthless. like the whole scene with her having a noose around the twins' necks? You think that lady will whip out three spells and just not do anything else????

It is simply not realistic. Especially when it's against Rio, because let's be for real these two probably go hard in their fights as shown in the first episode. To have that condensed down to a little play fight of a thing so Billy can come in made me flip the fucking table.

It's stupid af, for a comics comparison it's like having Magik aka Illyana put down her sword forgo her wards and spells to karate chop someone or bringing a nerf gun when your opponent has an ak-47.

Agatha has two fight modes, fucking go for the kill or, slowly manipulate everybody give and give Doofenschmirtz monologues while she does it then bite heads off. Both end the same way. Agatha uses wit and charm alongside her magic.

If Jac really wanted high stakes she wouldn't have nerfed Agatha or have her go out without a proper verbal battle and one weird Billy thought invasion. So yes I'm beyond fucking mad.

Can I just say I shouldn't have laughed so hard at this (affectionate). I'm telling you if Jac had saved her coins for the final battle the show would have been so much better. I was craving a Agatha/Rio showdown. Mama had her magic for not even two minutes and even then she was struggling?? Rio knocked her on her ass one time and she was laying there like wtf??? I think another Anon referred to it as a light show and they werent wrong. It's so crazy to me. Hell, Comic, even What if...? Agatha is goated and so powerful. I get she had the darkhold in Wandavision but she's always been gifted she does not need it. She was done so dirty in her own show i will never forgive them 😭😭

Experiencing joy and whimsy in an au idea that should be supernatural horror but is turning into a cryptid romcom (mc and Mr. Puzzles) with a side of horror/thriller (for smg4 and co.) but in a comedic way where everyone experiences the ‘horrors’ but no one dies; they all just end up needing a lot of therapy.

Mc is blissfully unaware of Mr. Puzzles and the smg4 crew terrorizing one another for the longest time as puzzles is affectionate and calm around Mc and therefore Mc is unaware of the ridiculousness going on.

Mario is somehow the normal one despite his actions and is the only one immune to experiencing hallucinations.

Luigi is a ghost hunter brought along by his brother to help out with cryptid hunting; Luigi is particularly immune to the hallucinations but he is liable to scream and accurately smack Mr puzzles if Mario is around and in the hallucination.

Smg4 is determined to get footage of a cryptid but keeps getting into situations a normal person would die in and somehow manages to survive anyway.

Smg3 is there to one-up smg4 and is mad as hell (scared) whenever he ends up in a hallucination because wtf is smg4 there being useless in the apparent danger?

Meggy is ready to throw hands with received danger to protect her friends and is partially immune to hallucinations after being caught in them so many times trying to help her idiot coworkers/friends.

Tari misunderstood the assignment and is attempting to make friends with Mr. Puzzles, so she’s the only one with non-terrifying hallucinations if she gets too close (meanwhile puzzles is all ??? Cease approach your aura is strange).

Bob is there for the lols as he IS a cryptid of sorts too and is chill with Mr. Puzzles and Bob is the one to offer useless advice, see it not work, go lol ok and dip out.

Saiko is there to help Meggy keep all the idiots in line and just powers through hallucinations faster than puzzles can maintain them.

Boopkins is the one who knows everything about cryptids and other things but is a little stumped by puzzles so he asks questions wherever puzzles is near (puzzles likes to talk about himself but until he communicates better it is eldritch horror and tv noises-Boopkins is somehow not terrified by this).

Melody is there because she was curious about other cryptids (Axol is a cryptid in this au and alive and he just is swimming in a lake where melody finds him and is all. Ok. This random person is ok with me being not all human and it’s nice to talk to someone). Axol actually ends up at the mansion with melons and they as well as mc have a nice time together just chatting while it rains (and Mr puzzles and mario and smg4 and everyone is that one image of walk in into the room with pizza and everything is on fire).

Maybe Wario and Waluigi are out there in the woods competing against smg4 and co to find footage first. And they have Whimpu and the others with them. Maybe they’re in a completely wrong area and just film normal wildlife to pass as cryptids while smg4 and co are fighting for their lives and have strong plot armor as the situations get more dangerous.

Also at some point Swag and Chris are there, probably in the knock off version of an SCP containment place but Mr. Puzzles just. Escapes a room but is lost in the building and you keep hearing Swag doing things to get to puzzles that have Chris resigned to inevitable of an unusable building by the end of the day. Couple this with smg4 Mario and some others in the building and Mr puzzles doing an eldritch contortionist routine around the building scaring the shit out if everyone and things look bad and then Mc just. Shows up wondering wtf. Everyone has ranging emotions.

Mr puzzles has Mario and smg4 wrapped in clawed hands. Mc just sighs and says they wondered where puzzles had gotten too. Going to come back home to the mansion with them? Had found some material for the main living space and wanted puzzles opinion.

So, everyone who experienced the ‘horrors’ and terror and running for their lives and name puzzles being harassed and attacked and dragged away from his home territory is just. Standing there. Then puzzles sets down his captives and reverts into a thin tall humanoid version of himself with an actual expression on the screen instead and tells Mc yes he’d like that. Cue confusion as Mr puzzles lets Mc take his hand and lead him toward the buildings front entry and everyone like wait that’s a legit cryptid why hasn’t he killed you and Mc is confused and says he just scares people away from the area of the mansion he hasn’t actually killed anyone.

More confusion; bonus free-for-all if wario, waluigi and the others show up and Mr puzzles is a little feral/showing Igbp eye horror when Mario is too close asking about watching tv. Puzzles has to consider finding a new haunt since all these people have seen him and he’s exasperated but Mc just threatens them all with a restraining order for harassing puzzles on mc’s property (mansion plus a few aches of land around it). More arguing. Mr puzzles just straight up decides to leave with Mc.

Bob maybe just reveals his nature as a cryptid which is distracting enough cause everyone’s all WTF you talking about and bobs all you’ve known me for over ten years and you still don’t notice I’ve got swords for hands? Bowser inexplicably is in the building after looking for smg4 and co for stealing from him to be able to afford their ghost hunting/cryptid hunting equipment. Everyone scatters while fire is breathed at them by an angry turtle-dragon.

In a corner of the falling apart building, oblivious to Bowsers righteous fury, Yoshi is leaving after learning that despite pretending and succeeding in being a cryptid for years, it’s failed to prevent him from being sought out for tax fraud.

Maybe earlier on Karen shows up with her kids having a vacation in the forest or something. And having to defend them because somehow she was seen as a cryptid by Wario and co.

I saved this to answer once I read Cry to Heaven and then I forgot, naturally! so here are my thoughts:

I was completely normal and fine about The Vampire Armand. highlights: 1) when he hacked his way into Marius's bedroom with an axe, 2) when he got so drunk he fell in the Grand Canal, and 3) when he lay down with Lestat's unconscious body and drank his blood, which in MY humble opinion was the most erotic moment in the books hands down. the This Better Not Awaken Anything In Me final boss.

(also this review ended up being provably false, as I immediately read Merrick which seemed like it was gonna be interesting and ended up just being weird and pointless, and then dragged myself through Blood and Gold which was BORINGGGG (my fault for reading all the books in like 2 years, instead of 20 like Anne intended).)

oh Uncle Julian...................... it's impossible to talk about SO MANY CHARACTERS in the Lives of the Mayfair Witches books without talking about Anne Rice's Weird Thing About Children Having Sex With Adults. as normal human people reading these books we obviously want to condemn every man who touches a child, but Anne Rice isn't writing them as pedophiles to make us dislike them; she genuinely just doesn't think there's anything wrong with it. it's so strange. Uncle Julian, Michael Curry, and David Talbot (pre-vampirism) all spring to mind as leads - if not heroes! Michael is named after her grandmother's family! - of her books who are attracted and sleep with to pre-teen and teen girls (and sometimes boys).

so saying that, I try to judge the characters without that aspect of them factored in, cos Anne CLEARLY views it as a neutral (and sometimes positive!!!) action. I erase every instance or mention of it from my mind ASAP so I can read these books and continue to be sane. 'Anne Rice's bullshit (affectionate)' is so accurate.

so OTHER THAN THE FACT HE HAS SEX WITH CHILDREN, I fucking LOVE Uncle Julian. I need - NEED - his ghost to meet Lestat at some point. the drama in Lasher when you find out that Julian is ALSO sleeping with Lasher and then starts secretly working against him... diva. icon. the moment. etc. he's not my favourite Mayfair but it's a close race.

as for Cry to Heaven: AAAUUUGGGGHHHGHGHGHGHH. changed me. stunning. beautiful. breathtaking. I immediately looked up the price of flights to Naples. I keep bringing up facts about castration to confused people in my life. I listened to the recording of Alessandro Moreschi singing in 1902 and cried. certified 5 star banger. after reading Merrick (bad) and Lasher (worse), this book redeemed Anne Rice for me.

next up I have copies of Blackwood Farm, Christ the Lord and The Feast of All Saints; just trying to decide what vibe I'm in the mood for. other than 'Anne'. the vibe is ALWAYS Anne.

she grabbed the back of beetee's neck, dragging him through the forest, while you held tightly onto wiress and ran. the blood wasn't slowing down, instead pouring even harder.

suddenly, you heard the screams of johanna's district partner and turned around. you and johanna began calling for him—you even turned around and tried to follow the direction the sound had come from; after a minute of silence, everyone heard the sound of a cannon and jumped out of their skin. he was gone forever.

the group of four finally made it to the beach, you snapped your head to the sound of someone running up to you and calling out your name. still running on adrenaline, you held out your sword—ready to swing—before realising that it was finnick as he shouts, "johanna!"

"finnick!" she cried, you both lowered your weapons before she ran up to greet him. sheathing your sword, you swiftly made your way to johanna's side, hugging finnick tightly; you were glad to see another person you could consider your ally.

you spot katniss and peeta hiding in the trees; noticing the absence of mags, your heart sinks as you realise that one of the cannons you'd heard from before must have been hers.

the moment of relief passes when finnick was joined by the two figures who were hiding in the foliage, "rain started. thought it was water at first. turned out to be blood. thick and hot. we were choking, staggering around blind," johanna answers, talking quickly, "that's when blight hit the force field," she shakes her head, trying to hold the tears back. "he wasn't much, but he was from home."

you reach out for her hand, and she looks down at it at first, before sighing softly and taking it—she offers you a weak nod.

"what's wrong with her?" katniss asked, nodding at wiress. you shrug, looking over your shoulder to see the woman mumbling something to herself.

"she's in shock. dehydration isn't helping," betee replies, taking his glasses off to clean them.

johanna looks behind her, yelling at wiress, frustration evident on her face, when katniss shoves her to get her to stop. "hey!" johanna cried, shoving her back, "I got her out for you!" your eyes widen as you realise what johanna was saying.

you grab her by the arm, softly dragging her to the water. she grumbles, wanting to swing at katniss, but you sigh and shake your head. "you know what she means. you can't just hit her because she's annoying," you explain, wincing at the cool feeling of the water.

you only went to your waist, before dunking your head underwater and scrubbing the blood off your body. johanna does the same, mirroring your movements. as she washes out her hair, you pull her into a soft embrace, nuzzling your face into her neck and sighing. "this is so unfair," you mumble.

she hums in agreement, tentatively placing an arm around your waist and pulling you in closer. she hated being affectionate in public—she felt weak and vulnerable knowing that snow would target you next if he knew. she supposed it didn't matter much anymore; you either both died in the arena or you ended up in district 13—and johanna was going to make sure that you made it out of the arena alive.

katniss nods to where the two of you were standing, "what's going on with them?" she asks finnick.

he sighs and shakes his head. "you and peeta aren't the only star crossed lovers forced to compete against each other," he replies, digging his trident in the sand.

"but they're from different districts," katniss states, hoping for further clarification. peeta also looks up, squinting at finnick as he waits for finnick's answer.

finnick snorts, betee and wiress also smirk knowingly at each other. "doesn't matter to them, they make it work," his hand shields his eyes from the blaring sun, as he watches the two of you kiss passionately in the water.

it was such an intimate moment, that they all turn away and talk about something else, hoping to give the couple privacy—well, as much privacy as you can for someone being constantly filmed for the capitol's entertainment.

Lucy of course has the reins for this interview cause Tim wants to pop this guy ha. Classic Tim/Lucy. She is the empathetic one and Tim is doubtful af. 'Grumpy x Sunshine 'at it's finest in this moment.

It is delightful to watch Lucy tag along while he’s in T.O. mode. She is enjoying herself haha The heart eyes as she watches him in action making my shipper heart happy. Although her stepping in when he’s sweating Celina is too hilarious. God I love we are in this place with them. She can step in and gives Celina a break and Tim won't eat her.

Then she continues on to give him crap for not giving her any praise. Wifey being extra wifey in this moment. Oh my word their banter after Celina leaves. My heart. ‘Have I not softened you at all?’ Oh you have Lucy. The man went from granite to butter. Just continually shows you Lucy was always different. He doesn't treat any other boot like he did her.

Oh my god he looks sinfully delicious getting dressed while she’s waking up. Scruffy and in a black shirt. I’m fanning myself. Oh my lord. I wanna climb that man like a damn tree. Those buttons are meant to be ripped apart and off him. Phew lord. What a view to wake up to. Also never be over him just always having stuff at her place. Basically living together *screams into pillow* That sweet smile of his too good lord I'm faint. God he loves her so much. Just exudes out of this man in the smallest ways like this.

That black shirt he’s buttoning up mmmm making all kinds of feral with seeing part of his chest. He is so confident as he speaks about her resting. No regrets letting her sleep in. I bet you he watched her sleep for a bit before getting ready fully*happy sigh*. My god the looks he gives her when she thanks him. I cannot. This was such a lovely moment till she gets a text her test was in 20 minutes…..

Poor Lucy of course she’s the last one in. This made me so angry to watch her waiting. Hate this Primm putz so much. Stresssssssss watching this entire scene. Oh my lord. Hate Lucy having to defend herself to this prick. Of course he brings up the 6x01 crime scene bleh. I think she defended herself pretty well IMO. I was on edge and anxious as I watched this unfold. Feeling sick for her and angry too. Her career has been exemplary. Wanted to protect her from this absolute BS assault on her.

This scene GUTTED me. The music plus Melissa's expression I wanted to cry for her. Hug her. I knew when Grey walked up it wasn't good news. Ughhhhhhhh 17 blooody 17... I'm so angry for her it’s insane. What a shit Primm is. Like that man didn't benefit from that 5 player trade she did. My rage knows no bounds for her in this moment. Melissa's conveying so much in this moment. Well done madam. Nolan gets everything handed to him she fights tooth and nail and gets screwed for helping the man she loves out. I’m livid for her. Sure the depths of my anger will be more detailed in my summer review. For now I want punt Primm into the sun.

17th sucks a lot. If that score is combined with her written. Maybe she did over prepare. Or it's a mixture of that and her Oral not going well due to Primm. Either way it sucks. I will say I love this puppy of a man. He wrote a 7 on the award afterwards. Just to make her laugh. My damn heart. Upped his romantic game so much for her. He got this BEFORE she passed. So convinced she would be number one.

Look at the smile on Tim's face as he hands her it. He's so happy he's made her laugh. Even before they were together he always took it upon himself to make her feel better. He has sharpened that skill ten fold since they got together. Her Metro joke is cute haha Joking right back feeding off his energy. Love this. Look at her at the start of the scene and the end of this portion. He got her in a much better mood.

I love how sincere he is when he says yes he thought she’d be first. Of course he did. He believes in her SO MUCH. Why the lie detector got it wrong in that regard. This man loves you so much Lucy. She doesn't have an ounce of regret for that 5 player trade. Not once has she voiced that or hinted at that. In this moment all she can think about is how she disappointed him. The sweet kiss after he tells Lucy she could never disappoint him. *heart clutch* How far we’ve come people. Still blows me away. Lucy saying how cute the award is. It really is.

God damn I love how this relationship has made Tim so adorably romantic and soft. He's her marshmallow. Tim is so proud of himself for doing good with this. I’m beaming from how cute this moment is. The heart eyes as she tells him he did a good job. I’m dying. Friggin love this ship so much everyone. Makes my heart so happy he’s there to pick up the pieces. Makes her smile and laugh after a crushing defeat. Look at this goober of a man. Getting her to laugh and lifting her up at the same time. It’ll be interesting to see where Lucy goes after this.

Sucks she was sabotaged but a new career path might not be worst idea? I feel slightly relieved this SL of the exam has gotten its conclusion. Might not be the one we wanted for her...but I am excited to see where this goes for her career wise. It's Lucy whatever she puts her mind to she will dominate. I do love this final scene so much. How much lighter I felt after it. Gave me all the feels in best way. Look at our babies figuring out life together. I love them so much. Sucks we won't have anything for 3 friggin weeks but I understand with only having ten eps to play with.

Gonna be real honest could care less bout Nolan and his honeymoon. Snooze fest nation. Never been a huge Bailey fan. I was always a Grace fan personally.... Also them touching everything without gloves WTF LOL

Poor Aaron and Celina so awkward. Hope they inch back toward their original friendship.

Only good thing about their honeymoon is Harper and Angela showing up like BAMF's.

Love Grey checking in with Tim about Lucy and Celina. Their friendship is a dark horse. I love it when we get it. Underrated gem.

something i love about spy family is that its a very funny manga, but it isn't afraid to be serious and talk about serious things (and its also really good at transitioning between the two)

Tatsuya Endo has an amazing grasp of balance. There are a lot of posts going around about how Spy x Family goes from something as heavy as "war makes monsters of us all" to something as silly as "Anya finds Loid's tourist fashion choices lame" and it somehow works.

It's one of the things that made me fall in love with the story from the second if not the very first episode of the anime. It dares to be realistic about how war impacts humans and how it takes them into a path they wouldn't normally take, but at its core it's a story filled with humor and love and connection, because this is how humans are supposed to live like. I mean, not to break it down to a "live laugh love" moral, but at the end of the day it does prioritize people living happily together and in peace. Even the "enemy" is shown in a sympathetic light from time to time.

And the humor and silliness attributes to that. It makes the story light-hearted despite the heavy issues it tackles. It would be hard to find hope in a story that focuses only on those heavy issues, if its vibe was constant grittiness and violence and dark themes. Not that there's anything wrong with stories with such themes; but you wouldn't usually watch such a story and expect to feel full of hope afterwards, nor expect it to have the humor that SxF has.

What is amazing is how Endo manages the balance of it all. How he works in the silliness amidst an environment of a cold war, of hardened spies and assassins, because it would be very easy to veer right into tone-deaf cheesy territory that gives you (unintentional) emotional whiplash. I think it's due to how the characters are only slightly exaggerated versions of something you'd see in real life. Anya behaves as any five-year-old would, where her focus is to work in protection of peace, make sure the family won't break apart, and above all, have fun. Yor's view of the world has been impacted by how long she's worked as an assassin, but her "naivete" is mostly her tendency to see good in everyone, even the "bastards" she's sent to kill. Twilight keeps telling himself everything he does is "for the mission" but he's only human and can't help bonding with his family even if he doesn't realize it.

The characters may behave in an exaggerated way from time to time, but they're not caricatures. The humor and ridiculousness (affectionate) in their actions are based on real human traits and behaviours we can see in real life. The want to have fun, the tendency to see the good in people, the desire to love. Endo simply takes those and has three people whose special traits clash with those three mentioned traits. Anya grew up as a science experiment in a lab where she wasn't allowed to have fun, so now that she has people who care for her emotional growth she goes all out with fun activities. Yor was forced into the choice of becoming an assassin, having to be told "This person is BadTM so you play judge jury and executioner", but with Yuri being her motivation (and later on the Forgers too) she managed to keep her kind heart. Occasionally she can't control her monstrous strength and may also consider killing people who inconvenience her and then go like "Yo wtf chill maybe". Twilight became a spy and distanced himself from human connections, but now that his job brought him into the position of staying long term with a kid and a wife and a dog, his desire for such a connection is rearing its persistent head. And so you get a Professional Master SpyTM playing "Rescue Princess Anya from the Evil Clutches of Count Scruffy Head".

It's the contrast that makes the humor of it all, and in such a way that it never takes only one character's side. I think that also adds to the "flexibility" of the story. It's easier to connect to a story when there's multiple sides explained and understood by the audience; and I mean, the only thing the story looks to be trying to "convince" you of is that humans live best when they live in peace and surrounded by people they love, and that's an undeniable fact of human nature. The characters can and do make mistakes but they're shown to be able to grow from them, and even someone radicalized and extremist like Yuri has understandable motives and a very human nature - just one that was taken advantage of by people in power.

Overall yeah, I think it's how focused on the characters' humanity the story is that it makes the balance between humor and heavy issues work. Again, though it can be exaggerated at times, it's not a caricature or slapstick, just for the sake of making the audience laugh. There's a depth and a genuine reaching out for the audience's emotions and understanding.
