Intro

I wanted to update Selena's Character Profile and Relationships Chart 💜🪷

Decided to remake an old post of mine to include Selena centric rambles and update her usage of pronouns.

Figured it's been a long time since I posted about my nyanbinary wife, Selena~ 🐈‍⬛🪷

Nguyễn Selena is my KHR OC who is a Vietnamese non-binary assassin. Her Vietnamese name is Nguyễn Nguyệt Vân Liên.

Her name, Selena, means "moon" 🌙

Her Vietnamese name, Liên, means "lotus flower" in Sino Viet 🪷

In my KHR AU, she joins the Varia as one of their members and lives at their headquarters with the rest of the core Varia members. My wife has NB flag colours~ 💜🖤🤍💛

I mainly ship Selena with Xanxus.

In KHR, Xanxus is the leader of the Varia, an independent assassination squad under the Vongola mafia family. He was initially one of KHR's major antagonists.

Selena was born in and grew up in Huế, a major city in Central Vietnam, which was once Vietnam's capital.

Huế (in Central Vietnam) is Selena's birth city. It's a famous tourist spot for its historical monuments like the Purple Forbidden City (紫禁城, Tử cấm thành)

The city served as the Imperial Citadel for the Nguyễn dynasty in the past. The Forbidden Purple City was closed off and reserved only for the nobility.

Purple was considered the colour of the nobility. The colour purple was historically seen as the colour of royalty in EA and SEA cultures because it was considered expensive and difficult to make.

Personality (Part 1)

Selena is a Vietnamese non-binary assassin with a soft and earnest personality. She is the protagonist of my KHR AU, which focuses on her daily life after she joined the Varia as one of their members and started living with them. XanLena (Xanxus/Selena) is the main ship.

As a child, she was often seen as unapproachable and emotionally distant and cold, so she "mended" her outer image to appear more approachable to others.

Her personality is gentle and warm, soft and aloof, reserved, calm and collected, sweet, open and thoughtful. Usually seen smiling, friendly. She's the type to get excited around people she's comfortable with, and when talking about her interests.

I associate her with a black cat aesthetic and with plants/flowers: Lotus (her namesake), Wisteria, Hydrangea (beautiful but poisonous purple flowers) 🐈‍⬛🪷💜✨

She likes "strong people and those who are intelligent at their field of expertise." She has an interest in fashion (cute fashion, lolita, traditional clothes), and is a florist and gardener, and plant/flower enthusiast. Very hardworking and passionate about her interests.

She has semi conscious man-eating plants and poisonous plants that respond to her emotions. They can grow larger in size depending on what they take in. She dips her blades’ tips with poison from poisonous plants. Generally knowledgeable about plants.

She has her own garden and likes taking care of many varieties of flowers, plants. She also likes learning about herbs, medicinal remedies, and poisons. Originally very aloof, shy, and reserved. Secludes herself and becomes more withdrawn if left alone.

Personality (Part 2)

She's not one to get involved too much in things that don't concern her, and because of that, she mainly keeps to herself, but can get along with others when necessary. Usually calm demeanour.

She's more aloof and wary at first around people she doesn't know/isn't too familiar with, but she slowly gets more comfortable and casual with the Varia members as she gets to know them, and eventually opens up more.

Really likes cute things, so she likes collecting fluffy, frilly clothes, historical fashion (traditional clothes), lolita and cute/girly fashion, and plushies. She gets her clothes personally tailored for her (she has some made by her family members).

A soft and gentle person with a rather modest personality. She gets rambly when talking about her flowers and plants. Interested in her gardening and fashion hobbies.

She tries to keep her emotions in check and keep up a level of pragmatism. And is very deliberate in fights with her fighting style... I feel like everything she does about her work is carefully curated. She's interested in fighting and takes pride in her work ethic.

Selena is friendly, so she tries to befriend the other Varia members, whom she considers her co-workers. A calm/level-headed person who’s hardworking and dedicated to her work.

She doesn't get angry often but if she does, she’d definitely be biting peoples’ heads off for it after (verbally first, but he resorts to violence if she's really mad). She has some degree of control and detachment from her work. She has a tinge of insanity, but she’s in control of herself.

She doesn't really think of things like romance so she's a bit dense. So she won't realize if someone's flirting with her unless they're really pushy and assertive. Generally oblivious to flirting cues unless they’re really obvious. She gets flustered easily when her S/O flirts with her.

She likes "strong, intelligent people, someone skilled in their field of expertise." She considers Xanxus a "splendid, wonderful person." To her, a wonderful person is "someone who is strong, someone who has many strengths, is outstanding in terms of their abilities, charismatic, powerful."

Selena's hostile towards Tsuna, the KHR protag, due to Xanxus' context and the Varia's opinions of him. She doesn't like how irresponsible Tsuna is, and his lack of ambition. She hates his ignorance, and his whole goody goody shtick.

As Cinna said, personality wise, Selena and Tsuna would be ok with each other, but morals wise, they're just way too different so they wouldn't get along. Selena is very capable of desensitizing herself from murder and accepting crime, while Tsuna is very hesitant to do that and holds onto the idea of murder being immoral

I think she's aware of how intimidating Xanxus' personality is, especially at the start, (and with how cold and standoffish and emotionally distant Xanxus is, in general), but since she is a nice and sweet, empathetic person, she'd like to bridge the gap with him, but she's also mindful and worried of how to approach him, so she gives him his personal space and respects his boundaries.

Selena's Name (Part 1) 🖤💜🤍💛🌙☁️☂

I wanted to add to Selena’s info sheets. Since I’m still working on my personal arts for Selena, I used a Neka (CN avatar maker) maker for this along with the arts I commissioned of her. I just edited the colours on the Neka one to be more saturated for personal use.

I’ll just post the name etymologies post I have for Selena.

Her name is Nguyễn Selena, but her alternate Vietnamese name is Nguyễn Nguyệt Vân Liên. This name describes the lotus flowers under the clouds and moonlight.

The moonlight reflected on the lotus flowers and clouds above. Selena's flame attributes are Cloud and Rain. Purple and blue flames :)

Selena's Vietnamese name, Liên, means “lotus” in Viet. The lotus flower is Vietnam's national flower. It's often called “the flower of the dawn,” and it represents purity and innocence. Lotuses bloom on the surface of water, and shine brightly in light. The lotus flower is Selena's flower, since the symbolism of the lotus flower fits her perfectly.

The lotus flower is a very important sacred flower in Eastern cultures and in Buddhism.

“The lotus grows in muddy water, and yet the dirt and muddy water fall off its leaves and petals, keeping it clean and pure.”

I'm really happy I managed to come up with such a pretty name meaning for Selena~ It fits her perfectly. If you ever want to know how to pronounce my Viet KHR OCs' names, you can ask me! I could probably make a video clip or something.

I’m Viet diaspora, so I’ve been wanting to reconnect with my culture in recent years. Viet names can be really poetic and pretty, so they’re fun to come up with!

Selena’s Name (Part 2) 🖤💜🤍💛🌙☁️☂

Her full name is Nguyễn Selena, but I also wanted to give her a pretty sounding Vietnamese name. I first came up with it around December 2021. Her full Viet name is Nguyễn Nguyệt Vân Liên.

Thankfully it was easy for me to come up with Selena’s name, and Linh’s name, (my other KHR OC).

If I remember correctly, most Viet names and words are pronounced as a single syllable. Some peoples' full Viet names are 2 syllables/words, most tend to be 3 or 4. There's not really any limit in Viet names tbh. I don’t think it’s common, but there are people who have more than 4 syllable names, like 5 or 6.

I think a lot about meanings when I come up with EA/SEA-Asian names for OCs... Selena's name definitely sounds “out there” and unique and irregular.

Selena’s name doesn’t really seem far-fetched to me, since Viet names can be 3 ~ 4 syllables or longer. There's no limit, but it's usually 3, sometimes 4 ~ 5. I think it's fine if her name stands out, given the tradition of Viet names.

From what I understand, Viet names can be almost anything. They’re either super poetic or genuinely funny, like some people have names that are common words. The duality of Viet names LMAO. So it definitely sounds like Selena’s name is plausible and reasonable.

Selena's Abilities 💜💙

Selena is my KHR OC. KHR stands for Katekyo Hitman Reborn!

It’s a shounen that was really popular in EA spaces from the mid to late 2000s.

In KHR, there's the concept of a flame called a “Dying Will Flame” and it literally represents... how strong your dying will, or resolution, is. And in later arcs, it introduces worldbuilding/lore concepts that people have different flame types that each have unique attributes, based on elements found in weather.

I actually love KHR's power system setup, it's very unique. The flame power system is based on elements in weather, which is really neat. And this is exactly why Selena’s stayed as a KHR OC. You can create really interesting powers with this setup. 🥰💞

The power system needs to be fleshed out more tbh (though that’s what I’m here for). KHR's setup gives one of the best environments to make OCs. The different flame types of KHR have a certain “attribute” or “characteristic,” unique to each type. 🔥

Selena is themed with the moon, clouds, and lotuses. This shows in her name. She's also themed with rain and water. Lotuses are aquatic/water flowers, so it makes her having a nice pond to relax by, even more fitting :) 💜🪷🌙☁️

Selena has two different flame attributes. She has Cloud (purple) and Rain (blue) flames. Her main flame attribute is Cloud. 💜☁️

Her secondary flame attribute is Rain. Selena is able to limitedly make rain clouds with her Rain flames. 💙🌧️

Selena could then use her Cloud flames to make her plants grow exponentially out of control. I imagine that when Selena gets mad, her plant weapons just grow giant and grow across the walls and go after people and drain their life force and everything <3

KHR characters use either specialized weapons, or cute Digimons powered by flames.

I still wanna flesh out her powers more since you can come up with all sorts of fun ideas with plant based powers. Anyways, I love my wife. Selena is so wifey wife wife 💜💗💘

I will try my best to offer some crumbs for enjoyment, thank you for sending in this ask Jojo 💜💜🥹🥹

Dan and Squalo often share this long suffering look when Xanxus is being unreasonable, bratty, extra pissed or just plain crazy. They both just go: "Why do we love this guy again?"

Dan actually likes braiding Squalo's hair. He won't do it for his own hair because he can't be bothered and the angle is awkward but he frequently helped Rina with her hair and he misses it, so occasionally Squalo will walk around the castle with elaborate braids. The first time it happened was before Xanxus realised he got conned into a relationship, so when he saw Squalo in the new hairstyle, he kind of just went nuclear. Because Squalo looked pretty and Xanxus' messed up brain couldn't handle that thought so he just got super pissed, then he was confused by the additional anger (because Xanxus is always at least 24 % angry) which of course meant he got even more pissed and started to make fun of Squalo, which naturally escalated into a huge fight. Lots of furniture was destroyed in that event but Squalo looked amazing during the entire fight trust 🫡

They are all equally possessive and protective of each other. Xanxus and Squalo get unreasonably jealous of Dan's past partners because he's the only one of them that has previous dating experience (in my head Xanxus was too paranoid and mistrusting to date and Squalo was too focused on becoming Sword Emperor for romance). Squalo and Dan get prissy when some Mafia randos try to suck up to Xanxus because he's the Ninth son/Varia Head/strong sky etc. And Dan and Xanxus also get territoral over Squalo when he spends too much time with Dino (they are friends) or finds other sword people to fight. They are all disasters but somehow they make it work.

Both Xanxus and Squalo don't really know how to handle drunk Chief, because he behaves so out of the norm and they are not used to all the emotions he ususally hides under his blank default face. While Dan is more open with his expressions and touch when they are in private, drunk Chief is on a completely different level because he ups the flirting by 100 and doesn't give a fuck if they are in public. While Squalo reacts by being super flustered and generally tongue tied, Xanxus defaults to anger again and tries to rile Chief up (he fails, drunk Chief is difficult to provoke cause he ran out of fucks to give). Note: these reactions will change during the progress of their relationship.

Since Selena is my KHR OC and my wife, XanLena is my go-to ship to commission (also because they have refs that are readily available, which makes things easier for the artists I commission)

My Oc's Relationships with the Varia

Okay! Fair warning before I start on this oc, there will be a lot on her lol. I've been able to play around with her the longest of my KHR ocs and I have her entwined with a handful of other ocs (That I might post some other day).

Secondly, she's the wife of the Arcobaleno and partially cursed as such, so Viper/Mammon will be done later when/if I ever get around to writing out her dynamics with that group lol.

Thirdly, Fran will be on a different post too if/when I get to the Kokuyo Gang.

Celeste Thorne or Celeste Épine is naturally a very caring and kind woman. If she's not actively taking care of someone, she's inevitably mother hen-ing someone. The type of person who's always wanted to be a parent; someone who's always dreamed a big family. However, her chances of being a mother were mostly dashed when her spouses were cursed into infantile forms and her own age permanently frozen no matter how many years pass. Even so, she did everything to keep herself hopeful and positive for the sake of Aria who she was now raising.

Squalo: Celeste is best friends with Squalo's mother and is his godmother. She was one of the first few people who held him as newborn and basically helped raise him throughout his life. Right there for almost ever major milestone of his life, and for the few she wasn't, she showed up not long after. She adores him with all her heart, having a slight tendency to still view him as the ambitious little boy she knew so long ago; the baby who'd stubbornly fuss in her arms no matter what she did as his mother got some much needed rest.

One thing she still does for him that she's done since he was young is get him at least one birthday gift with his birthstone, something she does for anyone she loves. For Squalo, he has plenty of jewelry and charms with aquamarine, but his favorite (though he'd never fully admit it to her) is the bloodstone locket that has the Varia logo on it with a picture of him and Xanxus inside. She got it for him for his first birthday after he became part of the Varia; the bloodstone being both March's second birthstone and a bad joke about him being an assassin now.

Nowadays, when she visits him, she tends to fuss over his hair a little. Celeste knows full well that he can take care of himself and his hair is doing just fine with how he cares for it, obviously. However, as someone with really long hair herself, she instinctively wants to take care of it for him. In fact, she tends to fuss over his health in general, if he gets snippy about it she will point out all his near-death experiences and how he cut off his own hand when he was young. In her eyes, this perfectly warrants her concerns over him.

Bel/Belphegor: Since she was a little girl and knew she wanted a family of her own, Celeste would go on and on about wanting twins. As she got older and older, she was certain one day she'd have twin sons. And well... She wasn't wrong per se, but the method wasn't exactly conventional at all.

She met Bel and Rasiel when they were 4 years old, or more specifically, 3 years old and 11 months. She was in their kingdom after their father contacted the Giglio Nero Famiglia, wanting to discuss the idea joining the mafia life. She was hesitant at first, but after learning he had young sons and running the idea of the visit past Aria, she couldn't help agreeing. Thus, her and the then 12 year old Aria, ending up staying in their kingdom for almost a year. She thought she'd be getting into a situation where the boys were loved dearly by others and that their father was an actual parent to them. That was not the case and she was so angry for the sake of both boys. If she could've, she would've killed their father a million times over and taken them far away from there. The only thing that held her back is the risk that regicide would pose for Aria and the Giglio Nero Famiglia as a whole.

Bel's first memory of Celeste is of him opening a birthday gift she got him. The toy inside was a simple stuffed animal, but it was a mink stuffed animal. To a little him, the fact she took effort in getting him his specific favorite animal instead of just grabbing him something generic meant the world. To this day he has that toy, far more weathered and aged, but still the same. Its also where his dear box animal, Mink, gets its name from.

Celeste tried everything she could to get the boys to stop fighting each other entirely. She could get them to pause for moments, namely by distracting them with activities or singing for them, but it'd never last for too long. Even so, she never yelled or used force or do anything that could hurt them forever. She'd gentle scold, explain why the actions were wrong, then tend to any injuries that may have happened or would clean them both up.

She did everything she could to make sure both twins knew they were loved, but especially Bel. She knew the pains of being the spare heir(ess) very well herself. She knew what it felt like to have everyone's eyes on an older sibling rather than you. So she made sure he knew that she was always there for him. That her eyes were always on him too, not just on Rasiel. Celeste also did this by giving both unique and kinda silly nicknames. Bel's are: Little prince, mon loup, and Baby-Bel Cheese. She still calls Bel these to this day.

I don't think we're ever given a proper timeline as to when the twins gave each other laxative and worms. So! When Bel got sick after being force fed worms by his brother, Celeste stayed right by his side. She took care of him and made sure he got better instead of force. At the time, he was bitter because she'd done the same for Rasiel a week earlier when he poisoned him. However now, whenever he's sick, he will often find himself missing her soft words and gentle touch and how she'd only leave to get things he needed, to check on Aria, or when he was asleep.

Both of them equally hate when she had to leave and leave him behind. Celeste just also hates that she had to leave Rasiel behind too given she loved both twins as her own after all.

Celeste met him again basically right after he joined the Varia. When Viper had called her and said they had a gift for her, one of her lost babies wasn't what she'd expected. But she was so happy to have Bel back in her life, even if she couldn't be right there for him full time. Of course it hurt to learn Rasiel was gone, but she'd never tell him that directly. And it's not like it was a big surprise to learn given that she was the only trying to actively curb their violent tendencies towards each other, there was a part of her that figured one of them would end up killing the other as much as it hurt to think.

To this day, he's the Varia member she spends the most time with outside of Viper. She loves taking him out to places he wants to see or to events or even just short shopping trips. She wants to give Bel the best sense of normalcy that she can despite his upbringing and the fact both of them are so deeply involved in the mafia. As, she knows he'll never fully be able to get it for himself.

Lussuria and Levi: Combining these two because there's not much to them and her! However, that doesn't mean she doesn't care for them at all. She simply didn't get to know them well until after Xanxus got frozen. Celeste did small thing for them to show she cares for them too. Though, her biggest act involving one of them has to be when she bought Lussuria a whole set of diamond jewelry (necklace, bracelets, and earrings) because he's an April birthday like her.

Xanxus: On all level except physical, Xanxus is her son. That's how she sees it at least. They met at a Vongola party when a then 8 year old Aria dragged a less than happy 8 year old Xanxus right up to her, declaring the boy her new best friend. From that day on, he became her own son in her heart. She hated Timoteo, but she was willing to set all of that completely aside so Xanxus could spend time with her and Aria. She doted on him like any spoiling mother would. She showered him with attention and praise. She helped him with homework and made sure to reward his good grades. But she knew that she wasn't the one he wanted that from.

Celeste wasn't stupid. She knew all the boy wanted was his father's acknowledgement. Part of her wanted to fight Timoteo until he gave Xanxus what he wanted. In her eyes, her baby was more than deserving of it. But she held back, knowing it'd just hurt him if he ever learned she had to step in to get him what he wanted most. And she doesn't want him in pain after all. She didn't know what eventually caused Xanxus to hate Timoteo too, but she supported him.

For her, like with the rest of the mafia world, Xanxus simply disappeared. She mourned like any mother would when their child is missing without a trace. However, it wasn't hard for her to learn the real story from the others she's close to in the Varia. She was pissed, beyond pissed even when she learned. At Timoteo, at the rest of Vongola, at the rest of mafia in general, and even at herself.

To her, she failed Xanxus. She didn't love him enough clearly. She didn't give him everything he needed, that's what caused this. Maybe she should've fought Timoteo into give Xanxus the attention he wanted, even if it hurt him emotionally. Hurt feelings are better than being frozen in ice after all... She should've done more for him...

The main reason she hates the rest of the mafia for this though is for a simple reason: They don't miss her son. They miss Timoteo's heir. They don't miss the boy who always struggled getting up in the morning after sleepover with Aria. They don't miss the boy she helped finish hard math homework. They don't miss the boy who loves ligers, who's favorite color is orange, and who loves to read. They don't miss the boy who'd struggle to fall back asleep after a nightmare. They don't miss the boy she taught to swim. They don't miss the boy she carried to bed when he and Aria fell asleep on her couch. They don't miss that Xanxus, her Xanxus. They miss the Vongola Decimo candidate, Xanxus.

For every year he was frozen, she still got birthday gifts for him. Of course, she wasn't sure if he'd actually like them at that point, but she took an educated guess of what he might've liked as he got older. His first birthday after he got unfrozen, she sent him every last one of those gifts.

Nowadays, she still love him with all her heart as her son. He'll always be her baby after all. But, he's not a kid anymore and she knows it. He doesn't need her to hold her to hold his hand and guide him around anymore. Her little boy is all grown up now. Yet... She can't stop herself from showing him her love the same ways still. She can't help herself from fixing his hair when there's a part out of place. She still calls him all the little nicknames she came up with for young him. She still buys him opal cufflinks and suit pins and more for his birthdays.

She also will still carry him to bed if he falls asleep around her. And I do mean will, she can be frighteningly strong when she wants to be.

Also this applies to Squalo, Bel, and Xanxus. But she does loves sharing those "embarrassing" stories parents will tell about their kids. Like odd games they played, silly mishaps they had, and things like that.

OCtober Challenge Day 17 - Greedy

Tyr never liked being dragged out to talk to Timoteo, yes it was part of his job but he'd very much rather stay home. Admittedly though, despite their usual back and forth it was less that he didn't like talking to the man and rather he just didn't want to leave the Varia HQ if it wasn't a mission.

As he reported details to the older man in the garden, someone passes by, despite the room outdoors, made sure to try to bump him as they do. Of course he moved slightly to avoid, only to lower himself slightly as he looks behind him, darkening his visage as he pulls a smile.

"Did ya need somethin' from me?" The only response from Xanxus, the brat that Timoteo took in be a slightly annoyed face. Tyr could tell the kid was testing his limits here. To most people he always seemed like Timoteo's dog, listening to the man's orders despite clear contempt at time. But that's how he likes them to see him, because it means when they make mistakes, they never suspect him to be able to act.

He always can use Timoteo's words as a shield and Timoteo knows this, having to constantly fight him to keep him in this dance, and even then the leash Tyr gifted him had never existed. He was no dog, but much like a coyote, he was easily mistaken for one. And if this child who is so full of himself, despite his clearly greedy nature when it comes to his power, were to be tasked with this, Tyr knew he would fail.

Not only because he would ruin any leadership position he touched without his own leash, but because he already had assumed what everyone else did.

"Tyr, can you stop trying to intimidate my son?"

He looks back to his boss, he had honestly forgotten his slight annoyance at the situation so whatever look he had on his face was incidental.

"Hm? Ah that's not what 'm doin' that's just my face. Where were we again?"

Yeah fun fact, Tyr fucking deeply dislikes Xanxus and his personality, he sees him as an inherent failure of a leader. Even though Tyr himself is a man who is filled with selfishness, he understands that leadership requires you to make sacrifices for your men.

As a leader you are to serve your men as much as they serve you.

But to him Xanxus is an eternally greedy little brat who only wants to take and take and take until there's nothing left to take. Tyr knows damn well, that it kills people.

and while he doesn't care about the lives of his men, he does need them in order to continue operating the Varia. He does need them to keep the comfortable position he has, and his ability to continue fighting strong fights. But if you keep destroying your own men, you will weaken your own forces, and then what?

You won't have anything.

Tyr may know he's only a teenager right now, but he knows at this point the way he acts will keep up unless something changes.

Intro Rambles

Nguyễn Selena (Nguyễn Nguyệt Vân Liên) is my Viet NB KHR OC and beloved wifey wife 💜🪷

She's a calm and aloof assassin with a cheery personality who's a flower enthusiast (florist and gardener) with an interest in fashion and collecting traditional clothes, including lolita fashion, girly fashion, and historical fashion.

I mainly pair her with Xanxus, my fave KHR meow meow mf (my no. 1 KHR fave tied with Hibari)

I've been thinking about drawing XanLena for Xanxus' birthday on 10/10. Most of my midterms are after the 1 week break we get during mid October. I'll post it whenever I get started on the sketch. I'll probably post the whole thing on main whenever I get it done

I definitely want to draw XanLena in Việt phục ("Viet traditional clothing"). I'm either gonna go for Xanxus wearing Áo Dài ("Long dress") and Selena wearing Áo Tấc ("Ceremonial dress"), or Selena wearing some kind of Việt phục (Áo Tấc) with a big Nón quai thao.

The big hat is called Nón quai thao ("Wide flat palm hat with fringes/strap tassels"). It can be worn with any Việt Phục. I was thinking of having plants and lotuses on her big hat. Maybe her smol little cloud puppy could be resting on it too… That'd be cute.

Picking flowers for XanLena based on Flower symbolism is easy since Selena is Xanxus' cute florist assassin gf/wifey.

I want gifting flowers (based on their symbolisms in the Hanakotoba, Japanese Floriography, etc.) to be one of their love languages.

Like I imagine it starts with Selena gifting flowers to Xanxus because of her interests, and then he starts getting the servants to gift her bouquets of flowers she likes (and then also hands gifts personally to her himself, too) 🥰💘

I haven't decided on Selena's birthday yet.

Selena is a Central baby who was born in Huế, a city in Central Vietnam. Huế was the former Imperial capital.

I want her birthday to be in the lotus blooming season in Huế.

Selena's Viet name is Liên, which means "Lotus" in Sino-Viet, and the lotus is Vietnam's national flower 🪷

XanLena Art Ideas

I had a couple different art ideas in my head. I usually imagine Xanxus wearing Áo dài ("Long dress") since the shape language of it suits him most. I think he'd also look nice in Áo giao lĩnh ("Cross collared dress"). Since Xanxus has a very masculine presenting appearance and mannerisms.

Examples of Áo giao lĩnh. I love the soft purple colours. Reminds me of Selena 🥰💜🪷

Admittedly Viet men's fashion isn't as diverse as Viet women's fashion so I'll have to think of ways to differentiate my masc meow meow mf faves' outfits from each other

I think GNC masc charas like Douman (FGO), Judar (Magi), Kuroha/Saeru (KagePro) would look nice wearing both masc and femme Viet clothes ^^

Selena's design is NB flag colours 💜🖤🤍💛

I would consider purple, blue, and pink to be her theme colours, but purple is her main one. Her main colour palette and main theme colours make up the NB and Bi flag colours. My Bi NB icon~ 💗

Selena’s main Flame attribute is Cloud (purple flames) ☁️

Her secondary Flame attribute is Rain (blue flames) 💙💧

I consider pink to be her secondary theme colour since it's also the colour of the lotus flower. She looks great wearing soft pinks 🩷

Idea 1: Couple art with XanLena wearing Việt Phục where Xanxus wears a black Áo dài ("Long dress") with red accents and gold flame shaped earrings with a red gem, and Selena wears a pastel purple Áo Tấc ("Ceremonial Dress") and khăn đóng (purple headwear) with lotuses and flowers on it, while holding a lotus.

Xanxus could also be holding a fan. It’d be super pretty if they were wearing fairy style Áo Tấc with either semi-translucent sleeves, or a semi-translucent sash or outer coat on top...

I’d want Selena to have the flowers on her khăn đóng, or in her hair, because it’d fit her very well!

Idea 2: Selena wearing a purple Việt Phục with a big Nón quai thao ("Wide flat palm hat with fringes/strap tassels") that has lotuses and flowers resting on top of it. Perhaps her cute pom pom (pomeranian) cloud pupper could be lying asleep on top of it as well? Like dog, like owner, they both like falling asleep in random places 🥰

Selena has a tendency to fall asleep in random places like a cat cot, including in her own garden, so Xanxus orders his men to go fetch his cat gf like the overbearing bf he is 🐈‍⬛🦁 Black cat gf x lion bf. I love the look of the Nón quai thao sm… The hat varies in size!

Idea 3: Selena wearing Áo Nhật Bình ("Square collared dress"). The Áo Nhật Bình is one of my favourite Viet traditional clothings because the patterns are SO gorgeous. The traditional Áo Nhật Bình is usually in red, but there's all types of colours! I recently bought pastel purple and traditional red ones with gorgeous patterns. The pastel purple one has coincidental trans flag stripe colours~ 🏳️‍⚧️ She'd look so pretty in it!

Iirc, this dress was worn by women of high status/royalty (princesses)

Selena falling asleep in flowers like harvest mice 💐🪷

In my KHR AU, Selena falling asleep in giant flowers is based on harvest mice (field mice) falling asleep in flowers like tulips. Xanxus who goes like (Huffs) whenever Selena loses track of time and falls asleep in her flowers/garden and has to send his men to fetch her

She's like a cat so she can fall asleep even in random places (her giant semi conscious plants will make a plant/flower bed for her). Selena being very eepy is sooo cute. It's always a good time for a nap to her. Xanxus who goes overbearing bf mode whenever Selena falls asleep in random places… It’s his own way of looking after the sleepy gf~~ She’s basically this cat. Snork mimimimi 🐈‍⬛😴💤

I love the colours of this one, especially the purple and pink gradient of the Áo Tấc, but I wanna redraw it to make it consistent with my current style cuz I've improved a lot since then

Trưng Sisters (FGO) by Takegarou

It's based on Takegarou's chibi style, one of the main Pokémon artists for Pokémon Sun and Moon, Sword and Shield, Legends: Arceus, and Scarlet and Violet.

Take is the character artist for the Trưng Sisters, known as Hai Bà Trưng ("Two Ladies [Named] Trưng") in FGO.

I love Take's aesthetic sense. Take's sense for picking colours and designing is fantastic. You can very clearly see the Viet traditional clothing inspirations~

Art Rambles

When I do an initial sketch, I just focus on making the face + eyes look good so I tend to draw multiple versions of each, and then choose the best one. I refine my doodles many times, making the sketch neater everytime. So I just clean up my sketch. I just realized I hardly get to colour and properly render cuz I need a cleaner sketch to guide my colouring. Hopefully I can change that and get the opportunity to colour more

I remember a bunch of times in 2020 - 2023, my friends had sentiments like "I hardly get to see you colour, but I love your aesthetic sense in picking colours."

I love picking colours! I can try leaning into a messy painting style…

Oh and just if people are curious. I'd call myself Yume (lit. "Dream") and Yumejin (lit. "Dreaming person") since I do Canon/OC content for my KHR AU, and prefer gender neutral terms as someone NB.

Misc KHR Rambles

Just gonna put the context for mutuals who don't know much about KHR but wanna tune into my rambles

Xanxus was named for his flame as a kid (the Flame of Wrath), since he was born on 10/10, so he has two of the Roman numeral X's in his name, and so believed that he'd become Vongola 10th boss.

As my friend Cinna said, "Xanxus' sheer existence was made for rising on top of the mafia. He was born, named, and raised, to be a leader."

Xanxus' name has the roman numeral X for Decimo = 10, having dreamed to be the Vongola 10th (Decimo) since birth. He was named for that very reason. He was also born on 10/10.

Born on 10/10 to be a 10/10~

Easy to remember: Hibari: 5/5, Mukuro: 6/9, Xanxus: 10/10

I'm gonna be real honest like these three are the only KHR birthdays I remember just cuz they're easy to remember. I always find out about others after their birthdays pass like oops 😭
