Much carding to be done.

I will sit outside and do it but under a cape and a wide brimmed hat because I am not going to become the lobster.

I finished this at the beginning of December but completely forgot to post it (>﹏<;) I was inspired by the other fine people making yarnfellows based on @sleepnoises' lovely work and decided to make my own little amigurumi fellow
#sock of the art#fiber art#plushies#crochet#'twas a fun challenge to figure out how to make it from scratch without using a pattern as a base#all made from scrap yarn bc yay stashbusting#still dialing in my gauge for amigurumi work. looser stitches than i would have liked but that's all part of the learning process 😤

When you get to a point in fiber arts where you start wanting to learn other crafts just so that you can better make what you're making, that's when you know you're screwed
I keep eyeing inkle looms because I need to make woven straps for the handspun crochet bags I keep making and the knit icord strap is so annoying to make. And I will never know peace until I can make the Perfect Bags.
#this is how i got int9 fleece processing too#wanted to make something iron age but knew commerciap roving would be a shit substitute fot hand prepped fiber#spinning#knitting#handspun yarn#weaving#inkle loom#crochet#q

Some absolutely beautiful tools arrived late last week. The double pitch combs & hackle were custom made for me by Celestial Farms to mach a set of hand carders & small hackle I already had from them. The flicker brush is also from Celestial Farms, bought as a premade from their etsy store.
The two spindles are hand carved by the artisan Carry Cherry Spindles from Russia.

I made this yarn myself with a drop spindle and I am proud. Many bad things are happening. But I have this yarn and I worked hard to make something I care about during these terrible times.
Finished yarn is 2 ply made with 4 oz variegated jacob wool roving.

There's a post about like being in the B plot of a sitcom and the only phrase I remember is "a bird is very here" but today I feel like I was a sitcom B plot Which is a long way to say I just got a new bottle of vitamin D3, opened it, and it smelled like rotting meat???? And when I called the company's customer service number to try to get a refund, there was pushback about me identifying the smell of rotten meat correctly*??? Up until the customer service representative said "each batch can have a distinctive scent based on the source, like when we use lanolin" and I said "lanolin is not listed anywhere on the ingredients of this product" and then I was suddenly good to get a refund So yeah anyone have any recommendations for good vitamin brands? I don't think I want to go back to the rotting meat secret lanolin D3 *with each new person I got passed along to I had to be more specific with my description of the smell to get them to understand I was not misidentifying it. Rotting meat is a very distinctive smell and I was VERY surprised to smell it from a bottle of supplements lol
#the person behind the yarn#I am not going to describe the smell but oh man it was horrible#ahhhhhhhhhh the sort of grey area of supplements in the US legally when it comes to like FDA stuff#frustrates me to no end. I want my supplements to have a consistent dosage and known ingredients#I do not mind them being made from lanolin. I honestly don't care. but I want to KNOW it's lanolin#because I have so many allergies!#again not getting into details but one of the other supplements I take is made from an ingredient I'd never eat#but in pill form sure! it works! It's an effective way to get the nutrient my body does not process correctly from food!

Knitting project - advice please

I started making these granny squares some time ago. My goal is to make a blanket thats 90 by 180 cm big. However I have found some problems since this is my first time crocheting ever!
I wanted to ask if anyone knows how to make the sqaures the same size? As you probably can tell, the skull sqaures are a bit smaller in size. I am afraid that they will stretch the blanket in an unpleasant way.
My second question is how to even crochet them together? Since they are different they don't have the same amount of stitches on the edge which makes me worried about crocheting them together.

Why yes, I did spend half an hour gathering dead leaves and individually washing them for a dyeing project.

Don’t be deceived by the angle, this is a large pot full of several inches of crushed leaves.
They all come from a tree in my front yard. I’m 90% sure it’s a tree in the camphor family, because when the leaves are broken, they have a pungent spicy smell.

I’ve tested some swatches, but I’ve never done a larger dye batch with them. This is ~400 g of hand spun wool yarn that I mordanted with alum earlier today, and if things go right, I’ll end up with a sort of reddish brown.

I’ll post an update once I’ve let the yarn process and dry.
Do you all have any ideas for what I should make? I’m in a knitting mood, so I’m thinking hat or scarf, but suggestions are welcome.

Curly hair update! I think I got past the slightly awkward hair length where it was like hitting my shoulders and negating the curl a bit, and I absolutely love the way my white hairs look in the curls (not much of my hair is white or gray yet but I think it’s going to end up very dramatically salt and pepper and it delights me)
Also I couldn’t figure out how to get a photo that showed the white hairs without also showing my entire face so I just scribbled over it lol
#the person behind the yarn#figuring out how to take care of curly hair to keep it curly is still an ongoing process for me#but my mom lent me some of her curl defining hair product stuff to try#(I had not tried it yet in this photo)#and it makes me so happy to see my hair looking like this it’s exactly what I wanted it to look like as a teenager#also re: the photo thing idk if I mentioned this here#but I discovered recently talking to friends I am maybe a little bit faceblind?#and I genuinely do not know how much of a face is a recognizable amount of face#so I am erring on the side of caution#though to be fair the phone case is also probably pretty distinctive#oh well too late now y’all know about the salt goblin#and yes part of the reason I am so excited about having salt and pepper hair is for the pun potential#I am so sodium georg even my hair wants to be salt lol

You know how some clay artists make a little kiln god to protect their pottery? I need to crochet a little yarn god to make sure my projects always have good omens near them because I think I need that 😭😨
#crochet#art#if anybody has ideas for a yarn god PLEASE i think that would be cute#context: using a thin acrylic yarn (oh no) for a new project (fuck) that uses a stitch i'm okay with but not an expert on (SHIT)#and the only way to access the pattern is by video (thankfully the video maker is alright 🙏)#you know how people say that chunky yarn is hard to work with? i'm the opposite#i'm finding this acrylic yarn to be really fussy and i'm not sure i like it as a yarn at ALL#and some people make CLOTHES out of this yarn? i think i fear those people the most in this world#fiber art#holy shit this yarn is also a navy blue and this pattern is classed as intermediate#you know how they say to 'trust the process'? well i'm not trusting the process rn!!!! let me off!!!!!!! 😭😭
