Much carding to be done.
Tumblr media
I will sit outside and do it but under a cape and a wide brimmed hat because I am not going to become the lobster.

I finished this at the beginning of December but completely forgot to post it (>﹏<;) I was inspired by the other fine people making yarnfellows based on @sleepnoises' lovely work and decided to make my own little amigurumi fellow

When you get to a point in fiber arts where you start wanting to learn other crafts just so that you can better make what you're making, that's when you know you're screwed
I keep eyeing inkle looms because I need to make woven straps for the handspun crochet bags I keep making and the knit icord strap is so annoying to make. And I will never know peace until I can make the Perfect Bags.

Some absolutely beautiful tools arrived late last week. The double pitch combs & hackle were custom made for me by Celestial Farms to mach a set of hand carders & small hackle I already had from them. The flicker brush is also from Celestial Farms, bought as a premade from their etsy store.
The two spindles are hand carved by the artisan Carry Cherry Spindles from Russia.

I made this yarn myself with a drop spindle and I am proud. Many bad things are happening. But I have this yarn and I worked hard to make something I care about during these terrible times.
Finished yarn is 2 ply made with 4 oz variegated jacob wool roving.

There's a post about like being in the B plot of a sitcom and the only phrase I remember is "a bird is very here" but today I feel like I was a sitcom B plot Which is a long way to say I just got a new bottle of vitamin D3, opened it, and it smelled like rotting meat???? And when I called the company's customer service number to try to get a refund, there was pushback about me identifying the smell of rotten meat correctly*??? Up until the customer service representative said "each batch can have a distinctive scent based on the source, like when we use lanolin" and I said "lanolin is not listed anywhere on the ingredients of this product" and then I was suddenly good to get a refund So yeah anyone have any recommendations for good vitamin brands? I don't think I want to go back to the rotting meat secret lanolin D3 *with each new person I got passed along to I had to be more specific with my description of the smell to get them to understand I was not misidentifying it. Rotting meat is a very distinctive smell and I was VERY surprised to smell it from a bottle of supplements lol

Knitting project - advice please

I started making these granny squares some time ago. My goal is to make a blanket thats 90 by 180 cm big. However I have found some problems since this is my first time crocheting ever!
I wanted to ask if anyone knows how to make the sqaures the same size? As you probably can tell, the skull sqaures are a bit smaller in size. I am afraid that they will stretch the blanket in an unpleasant way.
My second question is how to even crochet them together? Since they are different they don't have the same amount of stitches on the edge which makes me worried about crocheting them together.

Why yes, I did spend half an hour gathering dead leaves and individually washing them for a dyeing project.
Tumblr media
Don’t be deceived by the angle, this is a large pot full of several inches of crushed leaves.
They all come from a tree in my front yard. I’m 90% sure it’s a tree in the camphor family, because when the leaves are broken, they have a pungent spicy smell.
Tumblr media
I’ve tested some swatches, but I’ve never done a larger dye batch with them. This is ~400 g of hand spun wool yarn that I mordanted with alum earlier today, and if things go right, I’ll end up with a sort of reddish brown.
Tumblr media
I’ll post an update once I’ve let the yarn process and dry.
Do you all have any ideas for what I should make? I’m in a knitting mood, so I’m thinking hat or scarf, but suggestions are welcome.

Curly hair update! I think I got past the slightly awkward hair length where it was like hitting my shoulders and negating the curl a bit, and I absolutely love the way my white hairs look in the curls (not much of my hair is white or gray yet but I think it’s going to end up very dramatically salt and pepper and it delights me)
Also I couldn’t figure out how to get a photo that showed the white hairs without also showing my entire face so I just scribbled over it lol
