I love and appreciate you wanting to not jump to conclusions and claiming you’re something when you’re not, especially as I’ve noticed the recent Tik Tok and internet culture having a lot of claiming neurodivergence based off something that’s just one piece of a thing and a pretty serious struggle. I do recommend official diagnosis (if able) because of validation and there are things that can help the struggle. :)

But as I know not everyone is in a position where that is applicable and such, resources like the official DSM 5 criteria for autism diagnosis can be helpful to see if you meet them. Looks like the CDC has a breakdown of it [here] and a breakdown of ADHD [here], it can be very common to have both also. There are a lot of facets and pieces and it can look different in people, especially as more adults and woman are diagnosed and studied versus previously it was looked at just young boys. There are some interesting Ted Talks on it and I even found it interesting to read Quora topics about neurodivergence because when I connected with what people said I was like - oh. :) Also as an aside: there is lots of misinformation online so I recommend going to reputable sources, ADD is no longer a diagnosis because it was based on the fact that woman aren’t “Hyperactive” which for many reasons isn’t true, Asperger’s is no longer a diagnosis because it’s named for a Nazi scientist who basically categorized children to euthanize, and Autism Speaks from what I’ve seen is not a very good organization… :) <3

I have loadssss of canned ideas which couldn't work in the setting I envisioned:

the first story idea for Siren i had was going to be about an unmodified human (employed by modern atom corp) crashlanding there, and the three explorers (huarvaa, qedivar, and terwy) would volunteer to help them travel to the precursor settlement to find parts to fix their space ship. But along the way they would all make the discovery that they were all humans all along (obviously with the unmodified human believing they were being helped by three aliens). So there'd be points in the story where they'd be like "huh what a weird coincidence that [some similarity they share]" finally turning into "wait so your people made us to be slaves on this planet??" and the unmodified human having to absorb the rammys. Reason I didn't go with it: didn't like the focus on an unmodified human, I felt it a disservice to the sirenians' intelligence to imagine that they couldn't figure out all that shit on their own.

That one jumps to mind as this was originally a Siren blog and I do still work away at it here haha.

For outright cancelled settings and stories, kiiinda ISOK, i don't really make new things about it anymore and it never grabbed my attention enough, I'll draw my faves but don't feel like developing stories or characters there right now

Twist the manticore came from a very recently fully cancelled story about curses which you can find in the #manticore tag on my big art blog. Basically a concept of a really fucked up city built on a mine of the substance which allows people to visualise magic spells and particularly curses. The story was about a curse broker who would be hired to cast curses not necessarily of his own design, but he'd be the one pulling the trigger because it's like this nightmare gig economy where you need an endless supply of new people to cast curses because each casting takes a cumulative toll on the body. Anyway I fell away from it because it was hard to write a very actively suicidal pov and I never figured out the ending so it felt aimless. Sometimes when I have no ending in mind I can just go on and on throwing new scenarios at the characters to see them react but I wasn't feeling it here. But I liked the manticore and sphinx designs

Obviously all of my 21st century Inver writing is gone noncanon now which is great. The future now is entirely uncertain yippee!!!

I've also had one billion story ideas which are up on the shelf kind of waiting. A big one you might know from my werewolf sketchbook is the glam underground werewolf subculture stuff which I came up with while watching dog shows lol but essentially warring werewolf packs decided to cut down the body count by doing head to head dance battles instead based on the beauty and aesthetics of their werewolf forms, it was a little inspired by drag balls but it's something I'm not very familiar with so if I were to go at it seriously I would need to do a lot of work. The story would be about a guy who got bitten and had to find his way to one of these spaces where because of his lovely werewolf form he gets poached by a pack and ends up competing with them, until he stumbles across the dead body of the current best in show competitor, rival to his new pack, and is accused of murdering him. He is charged with proving his innocence, but also finding out who the hell bit him because it seems like it may have been done on purpose to create a scapegoat for this murder. Anyway yea full murder mystery and the werewolves had show names which were as extravagant and striking as u can imagine*, essentially leaving their straightsonas at the door once a month to queen out among the only people who understand them. The only setting I could possibly imagine for it was vegas lol but in a more homophobic era (the underground lycanthropy scene being analogous to gay culture ofc).

Another story I wanna work on eventually is a revamp of the radio dragons, I realised ultimately that I was still trying to 'fix' pern with it when presenting a rebuttal to the ethical problems with dragon rider stories ends up really boring ("the dragons are in charge and they pick their riders when the riders are teens and there's an element of choice etc etc" boring). Ultimately I should just be completely inverting the dynamic and leaving it unchanged so that the issues are made blinding rather than fixed - in this case, the dragons are in charge, but they are picking their riders from birth. Newborn human baby instantly hooked up to an adult or at least older adolescent dragon and treated like a particularly smart parrot for most/all of their lives. And the story told entirely from dragon pov of course (dragon would do anything for their beloved rider!! even maybe let them vote?)

Entertainment: Reading, chess and observing others. There wasn’t much to do in the Circle, and very little that piqued her interest at home. As Inquisitor, she has begun to enjoy gardening and after the events of the winter palace, she has taken an interest in the fashion of Orlais.

Books: Her favourite books growing up have always been stories about grand adventures, wanting to see the world outside of the circle. As she’s grown, she leans towards biographies and first hand retellings of historical events.

Pastime: People watching, embroidery, and learning new things. Caedo has always felt like someone on the outside looking in, both in the circle and at home. She has developed a habit of simply watching the masses, observing and spectating as she comfortably stays in the background. Embroidery and needlework is something she’d been taught to do in House Trevelyan to pass time, and it’s the only thing that stuck with her since. FAMILY:

Siblings: She is the youngest of four children, all close in age; Cyrus is the eldest and current heir of House Trevelyan, he’s an ex-templar and is a stern, quiet man with talents in swordplay. Cataleya is the eldest daughter, currently a chantry sister in Val Royeaux. Carlon is the third child and is the rebel of the family; has since been forcibly put in templar training in Starkhaven. She does not feel strongly about them since she was taken to the circle at 9 years old and they've all been raised with Chantry values. I imagine the Ostwick circle to be a little more cushy and lenient with their mages (especially with house trevelyan being so connected to the chantry/templars), so Caedo was allowed to visit her home with a templar escort every month.  

Parents: Her father is a proud man, priding himself on his combat skills and of his lineage. Bann Edmundo Trevelyan is a bit eccentric but is wholly devoted to Andraste and the Chantry, providing funding for anything they might need, including the Ostwick Circle. Caedo has some fond memories of the man before she’d been taken by the circle, with him often encouraging her to spar with him and praising her for her skills with the sword despite her age. When her powers manifested, he has since disregarded her presence and barely acknowledged her as his daughter to the public eye. 

Her mother’s family allegedly came from Seheron to Rivain an age ago and has stayed since, building up their family name from scratch. Araw Dolores Trevelyan is a very devout woman, and cares greatly for her family image, insisting that Caedo continue her etiquette studies and hobbies befitting a noblewoman even in the circle. While she can be quite controlling, she does truly love her children and when Caedo’s powers manifested after a fight between the two when she was nine, she felt very helpless when Caedo was sent to the Fereldan circle. She’s the one who worked tirelessly to transfer Caedo to Ostwick to have her closer to home, rightfully was appalled at the incident that had happened when Caedo was sixteen and hasn’t let them forget since. It’s through her that Caedo is invited to go to the conclave. 

Children: I want to say no, but maybe after veilguard. very much an accident.  they're both like uhhhhh idk if we could handle a potential mage child being sent to the circle and even if we did hide it would we want to put that pressure on the kid to hide themselves away

Pets: Three dogs; Cullen’s mabari from the winter palace, a wolfhound gifted by the Avaar and a herding dog from the Free Marches. Caedo was initially indifferent to having pets, but has since grown to love them the way Cullen does. idk how to draw dogs haha

i dislike the incorrect quote too but i disagree with your tags on that post - i hope that's OK. i don't think remus actually wanted or expected sirius to help him study. yes, he knew him well after 5 years of friendship, he knew sirius was exceptionally bright but he also had to know that sirius wouldn't jump at the opportunity to revise Tranfiguration questions with him. he said what he said because he had let his frustration show for a second ('You might,' said Lupin darkly) and he needed to quickly cover his arse and defuse the tension. he wanted to take a jab at sirius but also avoid having a fight or actually talking about the matter (that's such a classic remus move imo). he knew exactly how sirius would react. and that's why he didn't ask his other friends for help - because he didn't actually want help. remus was trying to entertain and distract a bored sirius in his own way - by offering something to bitch and moan about (remus's swottiness) but james had a better idea (as always lol)

I got halfway through my response before I had to look something up and tumblr then deleted all of it 🙄

But yea it's always alright to disagree with me. I don't think we will see eye to eye on this one though.

My read of the 'you might' will probably forever be coloured by the translation I first read, in which Remus basically agrees with Sirius that it would be great if it was a full moon rn. Either way, I never read it as the negative jab (though you're right that would be very Remus), or the tension filled reference to 'the prank' which most people see in it. I'm not saying they're wrong either, I just don't read it that way.

But to the more important part... Sirius bitching and moaning about remus' swottiness is entirely fanon, and even the language you use is fanon. Sirius, in the text, never bitches or moans about anything, least of all the acquisition of knowledge. He speaks fondly about remus having been the 'good boy' who became prefect, and he never, not once, laughs about people's curiosity or smth. Not even snape, who he insults in every way possible, does he insult for learning. He critizises his posture as he writes, his hair, his clothes, but not the fact that he writes so much or reads between classes. Snapes intelligence is like the one thing Sirius respects about him.

So why would he make fun of something his friend does when he doesn't even do with his enemy.

It's also not something Remus would invite. Being ridiculed I mean. He is very concerned with the way people perceive him, and while he rarely (not never but rarely) appears as aggressive or imposing, he also uses the rules of conversation in his favor. He might not be such a master at it at 15 as he is at 34, but I don't think he'd willingly let someone make fun of him.

Which is also not what happens afterwards btw. Sirius doesn't make fun of Remus for asking for help, or for studying. He just tells him that helping Remus revise won't help Sirius with his boredom and then he moves on.

Further on, we don't know if sirius liked to help his friends revise or not. He certainly doesn't have a problem helping Harry, but that's his godson, and we know that sirius (and James) helped Peter every step of the way to become an animagus. Sirius even sends Harry extra books in ootp to help with the da. Sirius respects knowledge, and intellect. He helps other people furthering their own horizon. He wouldn't bitch or moan about remus trying to learn smth. It's only boring to sirius, who is already bored, and knows everything for the upcoming exam.

Now, idk if Remus actually wanted help, or just entertain Sirius, though I usually also go with the entertainment read of the situation, and just offered a new view with my tags on that post. But Sirius bitching and moaning about remus' swottiness is as much fanon as Sirius' inability to go a day without commenting on Remus' grandpa sweaters and how cool he is despite them, or Sirius' disbelieve that remus can both read and smoke weed.

Well, you don't just feel like I enjoy your writing for your style and not only the character, that is very much what is actually going on. I never asked to be put on any tag list bc I have notifs turned on for everything you post anyway and therefore am informed that new writing from you has dropped without need for a tag. You are actually the only tumblr writer I do this with. Because sure yea I will occasionally go into the tags of specific xcharacters when the mood strikes me, which is how I found your blog in the first place, but I rarely click through into the authors' blog, let alone read their fics for characters I'm unfamiliar with. Your style of writing, your imagination for scenes, your ability to capture emotion, your consistent ability to steer clear of tropes that make me cringe and the more generalised personal touch you bring to your writing have all enchanted me and are the reason why I keep reading all your work, even if I've never heard of the character before and in some cases have never even heard of the fandom altogether before, + even if the reader character is the sub and therefore I have 0 interest in identifying with them lol. Maybe I wasn't clear enough about this before but yea your style is very much the thing for me here. hmmm. tricky. i think we do angst quite well - it's much easier for me to make them Suffer than it is to write them happy and in love i think. like the emotions and torment just come a lot more natural. and i do think sometimes our smut does eat. personally.

DIALOGUEEEEEE. this is charlie speaking saying em basically wrote all dialogue for TYS(NTM). and genuienly like. most of the KILLER lines were not me. i just can never think about what someone would say or how they would communicate if not blunt honesty. you can tell if i wrote the majority of a fic because it's just descriptions.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

occasional words -- fine. anything else, i don't necessarily agree with. there's usually errors and/or it just doesnt make sense for the intended audience.

anywho I just finished my first week of band camp and... the friends you make along the way 😁 we didn't go outside this week, just stayed inside and my band directors personal coach killed us. (which side note, the coach is a strong woman that can lift up trees and cars?? GET ME OUT OF HEREE) like it's the weekend and I can't even TOUCH my knees without it hurting, let alone sitting down without being in pain?!??!??!?!?!?! dying is less painful than this istg

which also forgot to mention I'm in leadership!! The team tried suggesting to the director that we should have one day with the coach, the other day doing lighter exercises (we played a lot of tag and red light green light last year) so 1) we aren't dying everyday 2) we can ACTUALLY recover and 3) new people won't be overwhelmed by this and want to quit but she immediately said no so ig we're just cooked 😁

I'm also the head librarian of the band!! (I organize and pass out sheet music for the band. This is also the most important role in leadership so haha no added pressure to me 😁) a bunch of other leadership had nothing to do so they helped me prepare music & such. The director would be like "do this that and that" and leave which worked well with me. I was also the librarian last year so I have a good handle on things and could easily direct everyone else on what to do and how to do it and it was great! until the director would come back to check on us and be like "nope you're doing this that that that that that that that that that and that wrong. u need to do it my way" which is like ??? Severus forced out a laugh.  “You’re all bluster and bravado, Black.  You couldn’t kill me the first time, even with your pet wolf, and I dare you to try again.”

A slow, strange smile crept over Black’s face.  “I thought you might say something like that,” he murmured.  And then, without warning—Black kissed him.

Black was a sloppy, rough sort of kisser; he mashed their lips together wetly and shoved his tongue into Severus’s mouth, lapping it around indiscriminately and conferring what felt like actual spoonfuls of saliva.  Severus tried to duck and pull away but Black grabbed him by the face with both hands, held firm.  When it was finally over, his lips felt swollen, slick.  Severus wiped his mouth on the back of his hand, grimaced and swallowed.  He felt slightly dazed and shook his head as if to clear it.

“What’s your name,” said Black.

“Severus Snape.”  But he hadn’t meant to reply so quickly, he hadn’t meant—

I literally fell in love with this fic and again it was just SO freaking good!!! And also I loved the other Kageyama’s in this so much.

I like the way your clothes smell by Mysecretfanmoments (NR) 75.2k // I think this is one of the only fics I’ve read for this ship… LOL oops idk something about reading relationships between first year’s in high school irks me…. just first year’s in Haikyuu dating at any time…. Anyways I don’t really remember reading this one (again my memory is crap LOL) but it had been recommended by people before so knock yourselves out LOL. Also this one doesn’t have a rating, but it’s got some explicit-ish stuff in it, so read tags and warnings for sure!

I liked seeing both POV’s during the scenes (and what a shame for Hinata not being able to focus on abs LOL) and I think it really added character to the fic! Please, don’t let go by LovelyAkuma (G) 2.4k // this DOES have a happy ending and nothing too graphic happens but read the tags cause there still IS an attempt. Tsukishima is best boy in this, but poor Yamaguchi bless his heart :(

It’s got some smut/kinky play (LOL) in it (along with the shooting, death, and blood), so just a little FYI!

Close Enemies by MyTrashyWriting (T) 2.8k // this fic leans more towards the side of fast burn (idk if that’s the right term LOL) but the build-up is still pretty good. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting the plot (though I probably should’ve seen it coming but for some reason I didn’t hehe) so I enjoyed the resolution LOL. This one is the least graphic, only a little bit of shooting, blood, and death (but also an intense make out sesh) heh, but also, some KuroDai if you squint ;)

The first person to find out was George Weasley and it had been an accident. He didn’t mean to barge into your dorm. He certainly didn’t mean to find you with Adrian’s head leaning on your hip as he helped you study.

“Do you know when— What the hell is this?” Adrian pushed himself away from you—cheeks tinted red, “Are you—” George spoke a bit louder than before as realization hit him.

“Yes, but you can’t tell anyone,” You stop him from raising his voice any further.

His laughter caused you two to look at each other in disbelief. Adrian found it amusing since if it had been up to him, everyone would have known within the hour of asking you to be his girlfriend. George might as well have been crying of laughter by the time he finished laughing. “I won’t tell anyone.”

“Thank you!” You sighed in relief. A part of Adrian wanted George to tell everyone and anyone who would listen. He knew it was possible considering the Weasley twins’ habits.

“But you better leave now because Fred’s gonna come looking for me and I told him I’d be here.”

Adrian quickly packed his things. He leaned in to place a kiss on your cheek as he started to leave but was stopped by George’s coughing. He was aware of how much George valued his “big brother” role and that overprotectiveness that was not going to leave any time soon (even if you are the same age).

“Thanks so much,” you smile weakly.

George groaned in response and tossed himself onto your bed, “Why him of all people? There are better people in Gryffindor tower and you went for HIM.”

“He put in all the effort. No one’s ever put in this much effort for me.”

He stood up and walked to the door, “You’re going to need to start telling people soon because once Fred finds out-”

“I know!”

While you and Adrian met during the night, in corridors, in the greenhouses, and any deserted place you could find, George did his best so that Fred wouldn’t see you two on the Marauders’ map.

“Pucey and Y/l/n are awfully close to each other.”

George’s efforts had been successful for a couple weeks. He stiffened at Fred’s comment, “I’m sure it’s just a coincidence.”

“Nah, he’s probably talking about their stupid brooms.”

George left out a silent sigh, “Yea, probably.” His shoulders dropped but clenched up again when Fred started questioning him.

He looked over at George, “What’s gotten into you?”

“Huh? Nothing! I’ve got to go.” He yanked the map from Fred’s hands and rushed off to where he had last seen you. He found you sitting against a wall, “Fred saw you two together.”

“How?” Adrian asked, standing up and pulling you to your feet.

“Doesn’t matter!” He strutted off.

“We’re screwed; Fred can’t keep his nose out of other people’s business.” You lean your forehead against Adrian’s chest, his hand rubbing your back.

“And if Derrick finds out, we’re even more screwed.” You can hear the repressed laughter in his voice.

You look up at him, mouth gaping in surprise, “You find this funny-”

He nods with a smile, “A bit.”

“I’ve got to go.”

“Hold on,” Adrian placed a warm kiss on your lips, his thumb brushing against your cheekbone.

“Why were you hanging around Pucey?” Fred asked at the next quidditch practice.

Unfortunately, Oliver overheard, “What did he want? He wasn’t talking to you about our new strategy, right?”

You rolled your eyes, “No.”

“So what’d he want?” Oliver asked again.

“Who wanted what?” Angelina strolled along next to you.

“Y/l/n and Pucey were next to each other the other day but she won’t let up and tell us why,” Fred said, adjusting his gloves.

“Why?” Angelina rolling her head to the side.

“Fuck, okay, he was bragging about their new brooms!” You groaned in frustration.

“I told you, Georgie!” Fred shouted over at George (who was near the other end of the field), “Pucey was bragging about the two thousand and one’s!”

“Oh- okay.”

“Can we drop this already?” You asked, desperately wanting to change the subject to anything besides your boyfriend.

“Yea, yea. Y/l/n, Angelina, and Alicia, go practice passing,” Oliver turned to Harry, “You, go get the snitch.”

Much to your relief (and George’s), Adrian wasn’t brought up again.

The second person to find out was Angelina Johnson, fellow chaser and friend.

You sat at your desk, staring at the History of Magic textbook in front of you. The class was particularly boring (and the professor just as much).

“Do you have an extra quill? Mine just broke,” Angelina huffed from your bed.

“Uh yea, check in the last drawer of my bedside table.”

Angelina kneeled down to open it when a green tie caught her eye, “Y/n, what’s this?” She picked it up with the end of her wand.

“What? Oh-” your jaw dropped as you saw the Slytherin tie dangling from her wand.

“Whose is this?” Angelina pressed on, excited to find out which Slytherin had been in her best friend’s dorm. A Cheshire cat- like smile spread on her face.

You tried your best to figure out a lie but it was useless, “Adrian’s,” you mumbled.

“What?!”

“We’ve kinda been dating since mid-summer-”

“-And you didn’t tell me?” She was astonished, “Does anyone else know?”

“George knows. We didn’t want to tell anyone but he kinda barged into my dorm and saw us studying together.”

“Tell me everything!” Angelina pulled you onto the bed.

You ran your tongue over the back of your teeth and obliged.

Now you found yourself in the Hufflepuff common room, celebrating their victory against Ravenclaw alongside your friends.

The smoke and lethal glow of the various cigarettes were nauseating and the fire-whiskey burned your throat.

A group of seventh years had brought up a drinking game—Russian roulette -- but shots of different alcoholic drinks replaced the empty slots and a shot of veritaserum in place of the bullet.

“Everyone—even if you’re not playing—has to close their eyes as we pour the truth serum into one of these goblets. You’ll pick a random goblet. And after you take a shot, you say the first name that pops into your head, and it cannot be your own. If it is your own, that’s how we know you’ve taken the shot with the veritaserum.”

You decided not to participate and watched as Oliver and Fred took a seat next to some Hufflepuffs. Across from them was a majority of the Slytherin team, including Adrian. Seeing him so comfortable and so aware of the possible consequences made the fire-whiskey in your stomach bubble and rise to your throat.

They went in a counter clockwise direction, every person had luckily not taken the defective goblet.

Finally, Adrian’s turn arrived. He chose the one directly in front of him.

“Name?”

“Adrian,” he answered immediately.

There was a wave of “oh’s” and you tried your best to hide your face behind your own goblet.

“Biggest secret?”

“Ah shit,” George whispered. You were too nervous to notice the slight amusement in his voice. The boy loved chaos and it was very apparent in that moment.

“‘Ah shit’ is very right,” you hissed, still trying to hide.

“Y/n,” you groan silently at the mention of your name.

Maybe I can slip out and no one will notice.

Of course they would notice, everyone’s eyes were darting between you and Adrian, “And I have been dating since summer,”

“WHAT!” Oliver shot up, not knowing whether to yell at you or strangle Adrian.

“Her of all people?!” Marcus also stood up, “She broke my nose, Adrian!”

“Finally!” gasped Angelina.

“You knew?!” Oliver yelled even louder, he turned back to Adrian who was now wearing an apologetic smile, “Are you dating her to get my quidditch plays?”

His smile dropped and stared at Oliver, “No.” His eyebrows furrowed with confusion as to how Oliver could’ve gotten that idea.

“How can I believe you?”

Idiot.

You rolled your eyes, “He’s on truth serum, it’s not like he can lie if he wanted to.”

Oliver looked over at you in disbelief, “Him? Really?” His face pale of disappointment.

“Yea…”

“Again, she broke my nose, why are you dating her?!” Marcus slapped Adrian’s shoulder.

“Oh that’s why I asked her out. Of course it took a while because she was always around her friends so I wrote her a letter instead.” he seemed to be oblivious to the creepiness of his statement.

No one dared to speak until Fred let out a laugh.

“What’s so funny, Weasley?” Flint asked roughly.

“It took you so long to figure it out. It doesn’t take a genius to know there was something going on. Y/l/n’s been acting like Percy since school started.”

Fred went on to list examples of how he caught on—the awful long glances at each other; the not so discreetly passed notes during class; walking suspiciously close together.

After the new (and apparently not so surprising) revelations, the Hufflepuff common room cleared out.

You sped off to Gryffindor tower with George, Fred, Oliver and Angelina right behind you.

You could hear Oliver whispering, “I can’t believe it,” under his breath and Fred, “Why him?”

Once you entered your common room, you were greeted by murmuring and people pointing in your direction.

“Can you at least explain-” Oliver called out.

“Nope! Gonna go to sleep now, bye!” You disappeared up the stairs to your dormitory.

The morning wasn’t any easier either. It seemed as though the entire school knew. You could see Terence Higgs, who was sitting at the far end of the Slytherin table, trying not to smile widely at his best friend’s girlfriend.

Oliver was still going on about how you were fraternizing with the enemy.

“Didn’t you have a crush on Flint for a while?” You asked, rubbing your forehead in frustration, wishing he would shut up.

Oliver looked anywhere besides you.

You felt a tap on your shoulder, “Hey.”

“Hi, Adrian.”

“Is this seat taken?” He glanced down at the empty spot next to you.

“Ye-” Oliver began.

“No, it’s not,” You shot a glare at Oliver.

“Great.” With that, he sat down, taking your hand into his and began helping himself to the food in front of him.

“Is this going to be a regular thing?” Angelina asked, hiding her smile behind a roll.

Adrian looked over at you, “Would you like it to be a regular thing?”
