Shapeshifter nie huaisang AU:

His mother was qinhe nie's spymaster, hired specifically for her unique cultivation ability to change into various shapes. She was a wanderer prior to settling down with her lovers, an experience that allowed her to throughly observe many different animals up close. So while she could become an array of animals (though mostly smaller, quiet ones), nie huaisang seemed to only ever be able to do birds. Or rather, he only seemed interested in doing birds and all his parental figures passed before they could enforce upon him the importance of branching out. As a result of his single-mindedness and artistic eye however, he can basically do any bird he sets his eyes on and replicates it better than even his mother could. He's even started to be able to converse with a few of the species he favors.

It doesn't really amount to much more than a cool party trick... until the wens start to up the ante. At first, it's just a handy way to get away. It isn't until the attack on the unclean realms that nie huaisang first takes advantage of his skill in the form of a giant vulture snagging the side of wen zhuiliu's face during the fight. It almost gives nie mingjue a heart attack but luckily the wens don't seem to realize that it's huaisang. The nie's don't exactly go around broadcasting their cultivation styles after all.

They do burn down his aviary in retaliation though. Which is... extremely upsetting actually. His mother had built that for him.

Then the indoctrination period comes around. Nie huaisang suddenly finds himself in a unique position of being the only one who can escape rather easily. When he fake faints, he fully intends to do so. But. But...

Wei wuxian who checked on him, jiang cheng who came to yell at him about staying hydrated, jin zixuan who awkwardly peaked into the sickroom, lan wangji who was injured and grieving and sadder than huaisang ever remembers seeing him. Even if he could leave them behind, there was still the small retinue of nies that came with him. For the first time in his life, he feels the weight of responsibility that comes with being someone with the ability to actually do something—to gather information, to search for escape routes, to snag some medical supplies. In this situation, he can actually help.

It sucks.

I think something that comes across Nakamura's works (I only read JrSihHc lol) is like highlighting how a mundane life spent with the right person bring's colors to ones' life.

Like, these characters don't really pull "I will quit my job for you!" etc etc and things like that. Usagi escapes his deadlines but still does his work and he DOES like his job too. Hiroki already warned Nowaki several times to not compromise on his job for their relationship especially since Nowaki is a pediatrician (I forgot if he's only an intern or already one).

Heck, SiH's whole premise is also work. Even Isaka despite being a menace in other's POV, is so busy that he rarely can spare time having a date.

However, because of that, they end up appreciating small things. Housework for Misaki is something natural to him, but when he cooks with Usagi, he enjoys it. Usagi keeps insisting eating dinner together even in a tough crunch time. (Heck, he literally wrote a children's book about Misaki's cooking)

Yukina enjoys cooking for Kisa and welcoming him home. Despite all his complaints, Hatori does all housework for Yoshino. Yokozawa's time with the Kirishimas. Things they usually do alone became special because they're doing it with the person special to them.

(Cue I don't really say "love" because love can also be painful and is pretty much the common theme for majority of JR couples is a failed first love then another love that truly makes them happy.)

So yeah, despite like almost all the casts being workaholics, their mundane life with their partners makes it livelier and in essence it's their quality time together. I just really enjoy that kind of theme of a mundane life being special because it's with someone you love.

A little note on the Liang Shan Bo & Zhu Ying Tai story told in ep20:

So this is a folktale from Jin Dynasty (266-420 AD) that has been retold over generations and adapted into various forms of media (plays, operas, movies, songs, etc. you name the type and it's probably been done), and you'll find regional and artistic differences if you go looking for all the variations, but the core remains the same: it's a tragic romance where Liang and Zhu did not end up together in life.

A quick summary of the rest of the tale, continuing from where Gu Jin Yu stopped: Zhu went home before completing her studies, and when Liang visited he finally found out the man he fell in love with was really a woman. He wanted to propose, only to find out Zhu's father had already arranged her marriage to another man. Heartbroken, Liang died from an illness not long after. On Zhu's wedding day, when the wedding procession passed by Liang's grave, strong winds prevented them from moving forward. Zhu left her palanquin to pay respects at the grave, and when it suddenly split open, Zhu jumped in without hesitation to join her love, and from the grave emerged two butterflies.

Gu Jin Yu stopped where she did because she was going to write a different ending for them (which maybe the production team already hinted at in ep2):

Heroes in Another Dimension is the result of Morpho Knight trying a new strategy for judging souls. Human souls are out of her jurisdiction, seeing as how she didn't know what to do with Adeleine, thus lumped her in with the others.

She already had judged Magolor beforehand (as seen in his little epilogue), so he's there to keep tabs on the others, mostly. He doesn't like her very much.

I love Tuvok so fucking much he is SO self-assured and for WHAT reason. He saw a Vulcan MASTER perform a technique literally ONE time who knows how many decades ago, has ZERO experience doing it himself, and still has the nerve to be like "Well, nothing in life is truly certain, is it?" when the Doctor asks if he's sure he can actually do this. And Janeway putting her full trust in him and giving him the go-ahead is so funny I can see why he was so taken aback by Chakotay not listening to his every suggestion in the earlier seasons - Janeway does indeed seem to be willing to give him SO much leeway.

GREAT question. i'd say presumably enough to cover the next year, yeah! you need to be in a financial position to meet your yearly obligation and to own your own contract. and if you're leaving with anyone, then either you need to pay for them or they need to pay for themselves, too. i assume children increase the financial burden even if they aren't employed yet, but am not sure by how much!

moving out is a non-starter for invalids unless their guardian is doing so. moving out is Also a non-starter for contingency citizenships unless their contract is bought by someone with an Enormous amount of both money and social clout with the light temples, like what happened with robert n sol. and even then, again, it's down to the contract holder.
