—— the night was highlighted by it’s dinner, with a range of courses on offer for those in attendance to enjoy, accompanied by music and dancing. taking place in opulence’s ballroom, the party also had access to the beach behind them, watching the sun set as they all shared cocktails before the official party started. some snuck away to swim, while others instead opted to stay inside and enjoy the ambience. regardless of how guests chose to spend it, it was a fun night for all involved. towards the end, bae gave a toast for the birthday girl, wishing her “a life full of love and laughs.”

once the auditions are done, nothing is heard for the next few weeks as the panelists and executives of axis labels gather around to view each and every audition tape. they take into account feedback they’ve received from coaches regarding each trainee’s attitude and progress and have come to a final decision.

seated around a long oval table, are a few executives, a producer and team from SBS TV, SEO RAN and the director of axis labels, KIM JAEKYUNG, herself. from the group alone, it’s rather obvious that something serious is to be discussed. each trainee is ushered to a seat.

“as you all know, axis labels is planning to expand ourselves beyond music, and we’re partaking in producing dramas now,” jaekyung begins. “after careful discussion, we’ve decided to partner with SBS on this wonderful new journey. this is something we have spent months planning, and have put a lot of time and effort into. the last remaining piece of the puzzle was getting talented actors to put on the screen - the face of axis label’s first drama.”

there’s a pause to let everything sink in. “we have watched your auditions and consulted with your coaches and ceos. the eight of you have been handpicked to star in our first drama.” the coaches and a few staff members clap.

“i’ll let the drama production team handle the explanations, but this will be a long project, one that requires your dedication and focus. we won’t allow for any mishaps or mistakes.”

the producer stands up next, and bows to introduce himself. “nice to meet you all. i am SHIN YUNHO, the producer. it’s a pleasure to meet all of you.” introductions are made amongst the team, before yunho continues. “as jaekhyun said, we’ve gone through all your auditions, and have decided to hand pick the eight of you for this drama,” he turns on the projector, and a powerpoint slide is flashed on the screen. “let me give you a brief introduction on the drama.”

the drama that the trainees will be starring in is CHEER UP. 

SYNOPSIS: the drama follows DO HAEYI, a student at yonhee university. she is a bright and diligent person. though because of her family's poor financial situation, she places a priority on making money rather than school. one day, do haeyi suddenly joins cheering squad Theia. she only joins the club for money. the cheering squad has existed for 50 years at yeonhee university. while participating in the cheering squad, do haeyi experiences the joy of campus life and meets various people from Theia including PARK JUNGWOO, JIN SUNHO, TAE CHOHEE, JOO SUNJA and BAE YOUNGWOONG. 

cheer up is a mystery campus romance set in the backdrop of a cheering squad where worry is useless in the moment, but splendid and precious romance is.

yunho continues to explain the drama and the setting. going into great detail the plans that the production team has, and a brief summary of each character.

“we have already decided on your roles, and ask that you try your best to study and learn your character before our first filming commences.”

“we have about a month before we start filming. before then, there are those of you that definitely need EXTRA TRAINING before we can get you on camera,” this time, it’s jaekyung’s turn to speak. she passes a folder to a training coach and continues, “for the next month, you will be given extra training for the areas that you lack. not just that, but this drama is all about TEAMWORK. and i want you all to get along and show the bond of a team. to do that, we’ll have you all train together from axis labels during the duration of the month as well. so attend your extra training diligently, and get ready to start shooting by august. don’t disappoint me.”

with that you are ushered out of the meeting room, and pulled to another training room for further discussions with your coaches. 

“you all heard jaekyung, right?” a coach says, “from now on, it’s all or nothing for the drama. it’ll be a very busy time for all of you. we start shooting in august, so the preparations are being made as we speak. let’s all work our hardest, okay?”

all your numbers are given to the coach as he starts a “CHEER UP” drama groupchat with the eight of you, and a company representative from each company for ease of communication. “we’ll be communicating through your company representatives and through this groupchat as well. any schedules, photoshoots, and what not, will be sent through here. and if you have any questions, feel free to shoot us a message as well. and oh, of course, while filming, feel free to send any photos that you like! we’ll be together for a while.”

congratulations on being chosen for the drama! as this is axis label’s first drama, a lot of thought and preparations are currently being made by the company ic to ensure that this is a success. each company will have a COMPANY REPRESENTATIVE that will handle the communication between trainees and the production team.

the drama chosen is ‘cheer up’, a 16-episode drama originally aired by sbs in 2022. if you would like to know more about the drama you may read the synopsis here. similarly, the drama that the trainees will be filming will be 16-episodes as well.

trainees chosen for the drama are PROHIBITED from posting anything on social media regarding shooting until after the drama is officially announced to the public.

as stated, filming will officially begin in august. before that, trainees are expected to brush up on some skills that are deemed important for the drama. to do so, the company has spent resources on giving the trainees extra training on selected areas. certain trainees will be asked to focus on two areas. as of now, the trainees are also expected to train exclusively at the AXIS LABELS BUILDING. please find below the skills that each trainee will be focusing on for the month (4-week period):

His question makes you halt your movement to eat your food. Your eyes move to look at Hyunsuk for a while before moving it to look at Jinyoung.

“Who knows? Soon, maybe…” he answered the question before he turns to look at you in the eyes with a small smirk, making sure that you’re the only one who noticed the gesture.

You can feel your cheeks slowly turning red and to prevent to happen, you quickly finish your foods and stand up with your plate and glass in your hands.

“Oh? You’re done?”

You turn to look at Yeonhee and nods your head. “I need to wash my hair and God knows how long it will take for it to dry so I have to do it faster.”

Your answer earned nods from Yeonhee.

You continue walking to the sink provided to wash your dishes, not realizing that Jinyoung is following you from behind.

As soon as you start to wash your plate, Jinyoug came to your side and look at you. You turn your head to him, asking what he wants using your face gesture.

“They asked me when will I get a girlfriend but in reality, my girlfriend is in front of me right now, washing the dishes.”

You scoffed at his words before looking at him with challenging look. “Who said that I’m your girlfriend?”

Shaking your heads, you turn back to wash your plate. You almost grab your glass when Jinyoung speaks again.

“That’s not what you said when you were in bed with me.” His words make your heart beat rapidly. This time you can no longer control the blush from creeping to your face.

You were about to say something to him before he move your hair slightly so that your ear is visible for him to whisper into. “I’m going to come to your cabin tonight.”

Just like that, he walks away, leaving you with your red face.

You were just finished wearing your clothes to sleep and currently drying your hair when someone knocked on the door.

You walk towards the door and open it, revealing him – one and only, Bae Jinyoung.

You roll your eyes at him before turning to walk to the bed. Your hand goes back to drying your hair with the towel.

Jinyoung enters your room and close the door. His back leans to the door as his eyes scan you from head to toe.

White loose buttoned-up blouse and black tights. Interesting outfit to go to bed.

“If I know you’re going to shower, I would’ve come earlier and joined you,” he said.

Since your back is facing him, it’s not hard to control your expressions but your heart still skips a beat.

“That’s why I make it fast. I don’t want a pervert to join me,” you said as your hands still drying your hair.

Jinyoung let out a soft chuckle before walking towards you and take your towel from your hand. You were about to turn around when his arms suddenly wrap around your waist, giving you back hug.

He moves your hair slightly to give access for him to bury his face at the crook of your neck. Slowly, he sways your body from side to side.

It’s at this moment that you know you are falling for him again. His actions never fail to make your heart flutter and make your face flush. You don’t know since when but you’re in love with him.

You just didn’t want to say it because you’re ego – and also trying to play hard to get.

Both of you stay like that for few minutes before he open his mouth, whispering against your neck. “I love you,” he said. His breathe hits your skin and it makes your hair stands.

You wanted to say it back to him but your ego refuses to do so. He has been teasing you for so long and you are not going to give in easily. You’re going to make him work for it.

Your hand reaches for his head to give it a pat. “I know.” That’s all you said.

Jinyoung frowns at your answer before pulling away from you. You turn your body to face him and you look at his face.

Are your eyes playing tricks on you or he looks… hurt and sad? What’s wrong with this guy?

“You’re still not going to say it back to me,” he said. You are not sure if you heard it right or not but somewhere in his voice, there’s pain.

You let out a nervous chuckle then hit his arm slightly. “Yah, are you upset? You’ve been saying it all semester and I’ve never reply it. What’s wrong with you now?”

Jinyoung shuts his eyes and let out a sigh. He then looks at you and nods his head. “It’s okay. I’m going back to my room now.”

Your face falls when you witness him walking away from you. His back looks so sad. You catch up to him and grab his wrist in your hand.

“What’s wrong with you now?” Your question managed to stop him but the way he looks at you when he turns around makes your heart ache.

Although there are no tears, you can see the pain and sadness in his eyes.

“It’s clear that you don’t want me to be here. Maybe you don’t even want me to love you, right?”

His question makes you frown and a bit furious. “When did I say that?”

He takes his wrist away from you and faces you completely. “I’ve confessed to you, but you didn’t say anything to me. I said that I love you, but you never replied to me. I’ve done everything to show you how I feel but you’re still like this. Isn’t it obvious that you don’t love me?”

You’re trying to keep your cool but it’s not working right now. His words just made you angrier at him. So, you let out a scoff before nodding your head.

“That’s right, I don’t love you…”

He was ready to turn back to the door when you continue your words.

“I don’t love you. That’s why my heart beats rapidly around you. That’s why my face becomes red when you said sweet things to me. That’s why I spent the night with you on the bed. I did all of that because I don’t love you.”

You can feel your eyes getting teary but you’re trying your best to hold it in. Jinyoung slowly turns to look at you. His face soften at the sight of you.

The room becomes silence for quite a while. You swallowed your saliva and gather up some courage before speaking up again.

“If I don’t love you, I won’t even welcome you into my cabin, you jerk.”

That’s all it takes for your tears to drop down your cheeks. You look down on the floor as you sobs quietly, trying to not make it obvious that you’re crying – although you know it won’t work.

Jinyoung walks towards you. He grabs your chin and pull you face up to look at him. Your eyes are full of tears. It hurts him. It hurts him so much.

But he knows that the tears are a proof that you love him just as much as he loves you.

He wipes your tears away with his thumbs before leaning close to your face, making your forehead touched with his. He shuts his eyes and waits for your sobbing to stop.

After a while, you’ve finally calmed yourself down. Your hands wrap itself around his wrist, giving him a sign that he can let go of your face.

Instead, Jinyoung open his eyes and look straight into yours before it moves downwards. His thumb that was on your cheek moves to caress your lips.

“Say it.” Jinyoung’s words makes you blink in confusion and frown slightly. Biting his lips, he repeats his sentence in detailed.

“Say that you love me,” he said. His words catch your breath and you can slowly feel yourself blushing.

You were about to pull away when you suddenly feel his lips against yours, teasing you. He lets out a hum against your tiers. You can no longer hold it in anymore. You want him as much as he wants you.

So, you look into his eyes and whisper against his lips. “I love you, you jerk.”

Without wasting any time, Jinyoung attaches his lips with yours, kissing it softly but you can sense the hunger in it. His hands slowly move down your body until it reached your thigh.

He then pick you up in his arms without breaking the kiss and starts to move to a direction before laying you down on the bed with him on top of you.

He pulls away slightly, allowing you to gasp for air. But, his next sentence manages to catch your breath at your throat.

“Tonight, I will make sure that you won’t get any sleep.”

Just like that, both of you spend the rest of the sleepless night together.
