Hwarang x Reader survey!!

First and foremost, I’d like to gauge whether or not this idea is worth writing!!

So question, is anyone still interested in Hwarang?

If I make a Hwarang fanfic where the reader (most likely fem, very sorry) is a True Bone Painter and Calligrapher that occasionally gets commissioned by the officials (and maybe the the royal family), would anyone read it? You can also suggest what you'd like to see! I personally am just strict about keeping the "Painter" part, but the bone status of the reader can be worked around!!

I initially had this idea that the reader would be mixed race/looked like the descent of a different race while maintaining their bone status by having one of the parents out of the picture and be unable to clear up the nature of their ancestry. (Essentially just plot armor so that they don't question you don't look a certain way/to make anyone fit into the narrative regardless of their natural features.)

I'm also not super strict on the reader's status! It's just that generally speaking, it would be more convenient for the reader in every sense of the word to traverse the Hwarang Universe with a little help lolol

So you can suggest to have be, "a half-breed" but just keep in mind the obstacles that might come this person's way!

To add to this, every other chapter (maybe) will feature an inked artwork to portray what the reader has worked on!! Like this;

This is an example of something I made in preparation for this idea (with random sketches of men with long hair, and a funny-looking Ji Dwi lolol) to make the story a little more worth looking into!! The "paintings" will most likely be of random characters that may be some of the reader's commissioners, or maybe even one of the main cast depending on the scenario!!

Idk if this is a controversial opinion...

I enjoyed Hwarang but the whole Ah-ro crying almost every episode felt like a turn off... Like, I get the first few times because she genuinely had a reason. Her brother comes back and they're reunited as a family then *gasp* he's not actually his brother??? But it gets repetitive and she ends up crying a lot.

Not really into the whole siblings end up dating each other trope even if they're supposed to be fake siblings. Idk, maybe I'm just sensitive? I feel like if Sunwoo just acted like a brother to Ah-ro it would've been fine. The whole love triangle thing between her, her fake brother, and the king in hiding was... meh (?)

I'd rather ship Banryu and Sooyeon, heck, even Yeowool and Hansung TT

But I know Hwarang is heavily based on the actual Hwarangs of Silla back then. But as a kdrama? I feel like I would've enjoyed it better as an action or slice of life kind of kdrama. The ending also felt kind of rushed, I don't know if it's just me, but it felt incomplete.

The first few eps were more like "ok here's the new task, you have to pass this assignment or else you'll be kicked out of the Hwarang house." Then it got political (which I understand), but then the fake siblings duo has a conflict. Their conflict being "uh oh, i love this guy but he's supposed to be my brother! But it should be fine, rigjt..? Because he's not my actual brother." Enter Princess Sookmyung having the hots for Sunwoo as a side plot. Meh idk man, maybe it would've been better if it was like Jinheung x Ahro and Sookmyung x Sunwoo? Then the whole Baekjae arc happens. Imo there should've been more episodes ;_;

Other than that, I enjoyed it. The characters were pretty fun and I liked watching them bond.

I love the parallels between Ja Hongmyeong/Seo Hwa and Wolryung's identity reveal in this scene.

Like prior to this, aside from the time Wolryung appeared in front of Sojung and Yeowool... his face was mostly covered in shadows whenever Kangchi saw him. Just like prior to this, aside from a few sneaks hinting to the viewers that the head of the Guild was Seohwa, she was mostly shown with her face covered in a veil/screen.

And I love the parallel of how, at the same time Seohwa decides to remove her veil... it was at that same moment also that the dark clouds that had been obscuring the moon's light started to clear, allowing Kangchi to see his father's face clearly.

Because in the end, the two people (Seohwa and Wolryung) are still connected. Like during the 20 years apart, both of them were assumed dead; Wolryung being cut down by Dam Pyeongjoon and laid asleep in the forest while Seohwa was cut down trying to kill Jo Gwanwoong but unknown to all was saved. Then the moment Seohwa returned to Joseon was when Wolryung also awoke from his slumber.

So it made sense that the moment Seohwa decide to reveal herself properly was also the moment Wolryung properly reveal himself as who he was.
