SUBTRACTION

Notice: 9 - 4 = 5 -4 + 9 = 5

The negative sign follows the 4, and a plus sign appears in front of the 9. This is because 9 is positive, and + is the positive sign.

But also notice: 9 + (-4) = 9 - 4 = 5 Subtraction IS NEGATIVE ADDITION -- by which we mean, subtraction is addition by a negative number. You can replace literally every subtraction sign with an addition sign and making the number after that addition sign negative.

DIVISION

Notice: 8 ÷ 2 = 4 8 * 1/2 = 8/2 = 4

So dividing by 2 is the same as multiplying by 1/2. 2 and 1/2 are reciprocals. Division is multiplication by a reciprocal.

EXPONENTS

2^3 = 8 2^2 = 4 2^1 = 2 2^0 = 1 2^-1 = 1/2 2^-2 = 1/4 2^-3 = 1/8

Notice that 2^2 and 2^-2 are reciprocals. A negative exponent is the reciprocal of the positive exponent. 2^-2 = 1 / (2^2) This is the way in which division is the "negative" of multiplication.

TERMS

Terms are signed (as in, either positive or negative) groups of factors (things you multiply). All terms add, the same way all factors add. Terms can be repositioned in an expression (Commutative Property of Addition), just like factors can be repositioned in terms (Commutative Property of Multplication)

SUBTERMS and SUPERTERMS

A term inside of a term is a subterm. A term that contains terms is a superterm.

4 * (17 - 5), 17 and -5 are subterms of the superterm 4 * (17-5)

FRACTIONS

The horizontal line that separates the numerator and denominator of a fraction is actually a division sign in disguise. Eight halves is the same thing as eight divided by two. 8/2 = 8 ÷ 2

Numerators and denominators can contain terms, but they are considered subterms. The fraction itself is the superterm.

If you try to convert 9-2 / 3 into a divison problem, and write it as 9-2 ÷ 3, the only thing that would be divided by 3 here is the 2, which is clearly not the right answer. we are dividing 9-2 by 3, and 9-2 is 7. We would show the need to do 9-2 first with parentheses: (9-2)/3

You might also remember "cancellation" in fractions. Can we cancel the 9 with the 3? No. We cancel FACTORS across the fraction line, not subterms.

YOUR PROBLEM?

So, what about this problem? The division sign is ambiguous. We learn that in order of operations, division and multiplication actually happen together because they're technically the same operation. Some people teach that there's a best-practice of always going left-to-right, but that's not really a rule so much as a suggestion.

It all comes down to: this problem is written badly, on purpose, to get internet engagement.

Im what is considered an "anti-endo" system, now you may be wondering what an endo is and why im against them.

This is not in refferal to fnaf endoskeletons btw!

Endo, or endogenic, is a term made by a group that spreads misinformation about systemhood/plurality/multplicity along with DID/OSDD is most cases. They call it a good faith identity but when so much misinfo and anti-recovery rhetoric is spread its hard to see it as such.

Some misinfo they have spread is; alters "dying", entire systems "restarting" (like, wiping a computer kind of restart), people being able to make systems at a whim, systems being formed past the age they're able to (it varies but the latest ive read from actual sources was 12!), systems forming from bpd and neurodivergencies (not possible as it would be a symptom is it were, however bpd is a disorder commonly comorbid with DID and OSDD), and tulpas ("Thoughtforms" that are appropriated from a closed and dead practice)

I am in no way trying to bring discourse you technically shouldnt be involved in however it would make me and my fellow alters uncomfortable to continue following this blog if it were in support or favor of the group actively against trauma survivors. /gen

I am very well aware of the existence of endogenic systems, but there are some things I didn't know about them here, thanks for educating me a bit more :D

You should be relieved to know that, while I'm in support of most systems, I DO NOT support endogenic systems!!

Like most mental disorders, DID and OSDD are not "quirky" and "fun." There are a lot more things to them than just what you see online, and there are some negatives that every disorder has!

While I'm not against self diagnosis, it's important to know that you should do some in-depth research from trusted sources before diagnosing.

I’ve talked about this before (not on here), but another big point I want to make on things that bother me with “inclusive plural communities” that involve tulpamancers, endogenics, etc. is how dangerously they misinterpret and summarize what being multiple is to others and how that misleads people with DID/OSDD away from even recognizing they have it.

I notice their definitions always boil down to “you are part of this community if you feel you have more than one person in your head” which can mean not only so many things that have zero to do with having a fragmented sense of self that also involve experiences like literally roleplaying, being a writer, kinning, or imaginary friends (which is another discussion), but it also is extremely misleading for what a lot of people with DID/OSDD experience.

YES, some of us experience our DID/OSDD as having “others in our head” and those who do are valid, but for most of us, that’s not the main or noticeable symptom because DID is so covert for a lot of us. For us, I only experience my DID with clear cut alters who I can talk to maybe 2% of the time when dissociative barriers are down for a brief period. Otherwise, I went my entire life never knowing anything was wrong. The first time I ever saw the concept of “other selves in your body” even though I was textbook DID I immediately thought “I could never have that, that could never be me” because I did not think I had alters and didn’t ever see them. They were there, but I did not recognize them nor have the tools to so those communities did not feel like they were for me. Eventually I was one of the people who came to terms with my DID through others means: Noticing my time loss, extreme shift in opinions, erratic behavior that led to me seeing a dissociative specialist who was able to diagnose me. But it was NEVER “oh there’s another person hanging out in my head”. In fact most of my alters didn’t make themselves known until AFTER diagnosis when they finally were allowed to acknowledge themselves as separate which we couldn’t do all my life for survival and to keep suspicion down.

AND YET, a lot of these “inclusive plural communities” ONLY fixate on the symptom of alters. All they talk about is the alters, to them, it’s all about the alters. The alters, which are only one symptom and usually the most covert one, are their fixation point and introduction and defining part of their communities to where you feel out of place if you just live your life not constantly talking about it. And that’s where the fetishistic side of it comes in.

Inclusive Plural Communities all define multiplicity/plurality in a way that allows so many who actually are multiple to miss that they are, and so many who aren’t multiple to think that they are. And this is because most of us DON’T have that experience of just having people hang out in our head in whatever that means. There’s hardly any discussions in these spaces on how being multiple affects day to day life and mostly just discussion around their alters, their names names, and how different they are from each other. It’s dangerous, it’s damaging. That is where you know this community is full of people who really, don’t get it.

I’m sick of these communities defining multplicity by JUST the alters. It makes people like me feel isolated to only present like a singlet because that is how my brain hides us. Because when that seems to be all they care about, it’s obvious they have no respect for DID/OSDD and how covert it can be for many and how most of the experiences AREN’T about just talking to people in your head.

It’s sort of hard to articulate myself more concisely, but I think I got my point across.

Good day amigos y amigas! So how are y’all today? As for me, I’ve been proper busy because this week is our 3rd blog peer evaluation and it takes much time to rate my classmates’ blogs each by each. Biased opinions and rates have no room here so I must read the blogs carefully and give them the rate or grade that they deserve.

JAVASCRIPT 3 -  Operators and Expressions

Data objects can be manipulated in a number of ways by the large number of operators provided by JavaScript. Operators are symbols, such as +, –, =, >, and <, that produce a result based on some rules. An operator manipulates data objects called operands; for example, 5 and 4 are operands in the expression 5 + 4. Operators and operands are found in expressions. An expression combines a group of values to make a new value, n = 5 + 4. And when you terminate an expression with a semicolon, you have a complete statement

An assignment statement evaluates the expression on the right-hand side of the equal sign and assigns the result to the variable on the left-hand side of the equal sign. The equal sign is the assignment operator. 

PRESIDENCE -   Operator precedence determines how operators are parsed concerning each other. Operators with higher precedence become the operands of operators with lower precedence.

Precedence refers to the way in which the operator binds to its operand, such as, should addition be done before division or should assignment come before multplication? The precedence of one operator over another determines what operation is done first. In the rules of precedence, the multiplication operator is of higher precedence than the addition operator, technically meaning the operator of higher precedence binds more tightly to its operands

ASSOCIATIVITY -  Associativity refers to the order in which an operator evaluates its operands: left to right in no specified order, or right to left. When all of the operators in an expression are of equal precedence, normally the association is left to right; in the expression 5 + 4 + 3, the evaluation is from left to right.

Comparison Operators -  When operands are compared, relational and equality operators are used. The operands can be numbers or strings. The result of the comparison is either true or false—a Boolean value.

Logical Operators-  logical operators are used to determine the logic between variables or values.Given that x = 6 and y = 3, the table below explains the logical operators:

So for this, it will be true if one condition is met. Like for example, the right answers are 1, 2, and 3 but you only input 3 or either of the three, that alone will make your whole statement/condition true. And vice versa for false, if none of the conditions were met, it will be false. Easy, aye? Well we cannot say that it is since we haven’t coded it yet first hand (apart from the code samples Sir Peralta provided us of course.)

And this is the part where we will all be confused as heck! So for this part, I will try to explain it as simple as possible but will still leave a link for you to visit if you didn’t quite understand it. I was so baffled in this part when Sir Peralta was discussing it to us so I would clearly understand if you are too!

Looks like you conveniently overlooked my point that you still have to have experienced overwhelming (traumatic) experiences in childhood to cause a sense of self to fail to integrate, so whether or not you call yourself endogenic, that is the only thing that can cause multplicity. So even if some systems are not considered unhealthy or disordered or distressed due to xyz reason that still doesn’t change that there is still only one thing that can cause DID/multplicity in the first place and nothing you said negates my point.
