So on occasion I get these brain worms that won't leave me alone, so im going to tell you bc I feel like you'd appreciate this one. Also bc I feel like someone who might get asks for their personal hcs might like it when someone else gives theirs instead.

I feel like the Rise guys, even though they lived in the sewers and then an abandoned subway, would still take time to have proper hygiene, esp as they age and start getting into relationships with people.

Donnie gives me "designer adjacent cologne" vibes. Certainly nothing that's overwhelming or pungent. Just something with a "clean" subdued scent that would pair well with either formal attire (which I feel like he'd prefer since he has style) or just lazy day stuff. (Obligatory undercurrent of motor oil if you've caught him in the middle of a project)

Leo, in true disaster twin fashion, would kinda do the same as Don, but would like something a little more intricate and complicated in scent profile. Maybe something with wood notes, or a flirty floral when he's feeling saucy. Wears either on the reg, it's just the scent he lives in.

Mikey strikes me as the kinda guy who wouldn't mind actual cologne but would prefer simple stuff, like the old trick of putting a dab of vanilla extract on pulse points instead of scent. And since he works with food so often, not only would it be accessible all the time, but its also kinda sneaky and flirty in its own way. Like, oh you smell baked goods? Come closer, its just me baby~ Lmao

Raph is harder for me to picture. We've seen he's a bit touchy about his various "stinks" (hahaha), so I get the feeling he would just smell like fresh laundry and bar soap most of the time. Esp since he's likely hitting the weights and bench a lot. Gotta keep the b.o. down to a gentle roar. And personally, laundry and soap is the coziest of scents, so when you'd cuddle up to him it would pair well with one of his signature bear hugs ❤️

I have a special attachment to the 1960s recording of it (it’s the one I watched as a kid) but I’ve seen it live a couple of times and it’s one of my favorite musicals/shows/stories of all time. Alrighty, I’ll give my short answer, and then my long, ramble-y, messy answer after that!

Short answer: I see Wilbur and Ghostbur as separate characters that are connected by something deeper—and more confusing—than blood.

Long answer: OH BOY! I AM ABOUT TO GET RAMBLE-Y!

Okayokay. So.

Wilbur and Ghostbur are deeply connected to each other—so much so that many people believe they are the same person! Even members of the Dream SMP were incredibly confused about it all, and couldn’t seem to wrap their heads around it.

Without Wilbur, Ghostbur wouldn’t exist; he is, after all, Wilbur’s ghost. You can’t be a ghost if there was never anyone to be the ghost of in the first place. If Wilbur never lost his last canon life, then Ghostbur never would have come into existence. Right?

That’s all fairly simple. Wilbur dies, he gets a ghost, ghost is named Ghostbur. Easy stuff.

But it actually gets… very confusing, after that 😅 Because Ghostbur is clearly different. He’s clearly other. He’s clearly not Wilbur. Or at least, not the Wilbur he had been.

Ghostbur is gentle. He’s quiet, he loves the color blue, he loves sheep, he lives in a sewer (the weirdo) he has a library, he has a high-pitched scratchy voice, his skin is pale, he always wears a yellow sweater, he apparently dislikes guitars (going off of one line in an early stream Ghostbur appeared in, not entirely sure how “canon” it is) and he’s very, deeply, hopelessly sad.

He doesn’t act like Wilbur! He doesn’t have the same voice, the same likes and dislikes, the same taste in clothes! In many areas, he actually seems like the opposite of Wilbur.

So… he’s a different guy, right? If he’s got a vastly different personality, then surely that would make sense.

Right?

Well… things get even more confusing, because Ghostbur remembers things. He remembers L’manburg and Tommy and Sally and Niki and Phil and Techno and Fundy and so many other little things. Ghostbur also, when talking about the memories, says “I” instead of “he” or “Wilbur”—at least in many cases. He talks about the memories as if they were his own.

But he also gets upset whenever he’s called Wilbur; he’ll correct people, firmly saying that his name is Ghostbur, not Wilbur. It’s clear that being called by his alive counterpart’s name makes him uncomfortable.

And he often doesn’t even refer to Wilbur as Wilbur! He uses the name “Alivebur” instead, as if to further differentiate the two of them.

In addition, Ghostbur saw Wilbur as a villain (at first). He even went so far as to say that Phil did everyone a great service by killing Wilbur, and that everyone is happy that Wilbur’s dead!

And then later, as weeks and months passed, Ghostbur began to learn more about the history of the Dream SMP/L’manburg, and came to realize that Wilbur wasn’t a villain—not truly. He was scared, and sad, and he did terrible things, but deep down he wasn’t a villain. That’s what Ghostbur believed.

These would all be really strange things to think about if Ghostbur and Wilbur really were the same person. Y’know? Why would Ghostbur go to such lengths to separate himself if he and Wilbur were just the same guy all along? It doesn’t make sense to me.

There’s also the very obvious issue of Limbo. While Ghostbur was hanging out in the Dream SMP, Wilbur was stuck in a dark train station for thirteen and a half years. If Wilbur and Ghostbur were the same person, then why would they both be in separate places?

Again, that just doesn’t make sense to me!

When Wilbur was able to briefly talk to clingy duo on the bench, he mentioned Ghostbur, calling him a “crazy son of a [bleep]” aksgsjsgsjs

Once Wilbur was revived, almost every single word he spoke about Ghostbur was negative—and in a lot of cases, just plain mean. Wilbur saw Ghostbur as a shell, and a dumb one at that! He didn’t think that Ghostbur had a backbone or was capable of doing much of anything. Ghostbur made Wilbur very angry.

(It was only much later that Wilbur simmered down and realized that Ghostbur wasn’t those things, and that he didn’t deserve to be trapped in Limbo. It actually seemed like Wilbur… cared for Ghostbur. Or at least felt guilty about Ghostbur’s situation. Why else would he talk to a freaking god in order to bring a sheep to hell to make Ghostbur feel better? XD)

Oh dear I am rambling so much oh my goodness-

ALL THIS TO SAY, I can’t really see how it’s possible that Wilbur and Ghostbur are the same person after all the stuff I mentioned; the different names, the sort-of-hating-each-other, Limbo, etc etc.

So that begs the question: how exactly are these two related? What’s their connection? Because goshdarn it, they are connected to each other, and I think it’s silly to say otherwise.

I’ve seen lots of ideas and theories tossed around: Ghostbur being all the “good parts” of Wilbur, or his happy memories, his good intentions.

But I’m a bit confused by that, because Ghostbur was definitely a flawed individual who made mistakes and hurt people and did bad things, and felt heavy feelings and cried and yelled and hurt and got angry. If he truly was only a manifestation of Wilbur’s good intentions/memories, then wouldn’t he have… not ever dealt with those things?

Ghostbur is human, that’s what I’m trying to say. He’s human, and he feels things and makes mistakes and loves and hurts and he carries so much on his small shoulders and he just wants people to be happy but deep down he is sad and needs so much help. He’s not just Wilbur’s good bits. No, Ghostbur is human and he has good bits as well as bad bits. He’s not perfect or endlessly happy.

So… I guess what I’m getting at here is that I’m not entirely sure what Ghostbur is! I believe that he is his “own” person in a sense, while still being intrinsically connected to Wilbur. I don’t think Ghostbur and Wilbur are the same person, but I also don’t think they’re 100% separate from each other. It’s a very interesting thing. They run deeper than brothers, deeper than blood!
