Why Firefox?

Firefox isn't trying to take away my ad blocking software, forcing me to wade through advertisements to traverse the web. I rarely have to stop and put up with ads in my day to day browsing experience. Google has made it very clear that they don't want you to have that power.

I'm very used to a specific UI in my browser, and I'm able to tweak Firefox to my needs. I don't use tabs when I'm at home, and being able to eliminate the tab bar can totally be done with Firefox (I won't elaborate on that here). However, there are many other things I can add to Firefox to improve my experience!

You know how sometimes you want to download an image on a webpage, but you can't right click on it, or it's hidden behind another element? I've got a Firefox tool for that called Right-click boroscope.

Don't want scripts to load in on a page, and cause havoc? Firefox has me covered again with NoScript.

I want to immediately reverse image search something I find regurgitated here on tumblr, in search of the original? There's a TinEye extension for Firefox to do that and save time.

Sick of Youtube's shitty search suggestions, and shorts being pushed? There's a Youtube Search Fixer add-on for Firefox for that.

The thing is, whatever reasons I enumerate to use Firefox, there are another hundred good reasons that other folks can add to this list no problem.

In some ways, it sucks that I should have to make so many modifications to my web browser to make it suitable for taking control within the modern webscape, but it also says alot that I have the freedom to make those modifications to my browser should I so choose. At work I'm forced to use chrome, and even though I'm only browsing ad-free internal corporate pages to get my job done, I still can't stand that experience.

We should be free to control our web browsing experiences. If a company finds a mantra like "don't be evil" too restrictive, maybe I don't want to help perpetuate their advertising machine (and don't think for a second that chrome isn't part of said machine). The web is supposed to be this free and open place, and it sure as hell isn't helped by browser monoculture. I really don't like the idea of supporting a monopolistic browsing experience that is the sea of chrome clones. Everything else seems to have turned into another chrome.

Fuck that noise.

So I will continue to use Firefox.

We Actually Really Liked Elio

I had a professor who encouraged us to do research before writing essays - he said that reading a 50-year-old novel and not looking up existing discussions is a bit like coming to a party late and not knowing what anyone is talking about.

I'm curious what he would say now, in the age of ChatGPT, but I digress.

We couldn't get tickets to Superman, so we decided to give Elio a shot. We were both impressed - maybe even blown away - prompting me to check big YouTube channels to see why so many people didn't like it.

The consensus overall seemed to be

-It's really not bad, just not what you would expect from Pixar

-Existing Pixar/Disney movies did it better

-It was safe and forgettable

So...let me try to take a different angle I haven't seen many people discuss.

The similarities with Lilo and Stitch are obvious. I've also seen the movie compared to Big Hero Six and even The Incredibles. It's about family. There's this child who doesn't really fit in, and he wants to be somewhere else, and there's this mother figure just barely able to keep it all together.

And I would say...sure...

but...

Elio is a movie about curiosity and exploration. Early on, without spoiling too much, there's this scene of Elio meeting two other young HAM radio enthusiasts. There's this military base itself that's implied to be restricted by bureaucracy, but within its ranks is an enthusiastic scientist whose role...again, without spoiling too much...gets expanded later on. There's a scene reminiscent of The Martian that hints at the notion of multiple countries collaborating, a reminder that science does not have to exist for the benefit of any individual country, but for the benefit of all mankind. Predictably, a lot of "social media critics" seem to focus more on the other aspects of the movie, and you'll only see this kind of thing mentioned if you go on obscure Subreddits like the amateur radio page.

Other criticisms I've heard on YouTube

-The secondary characters are forgettable

I won't push back on the tertiary characters. The robot. The alien other than the mind-reading one. The various other planet leaders who are part of a peaceful and somehow hyperadvanced civilization, but are completely blindsided by a kind of obvious threat.

I heard a particularly critical reviewer (possum) point out that Grigon was just a minor comic relief character, but then they went through production hell, rewrote much of the script, and recast him as the villain.

But the other characters? Solid. The relationship between the two "outcast children" was particularly sweet. I even liked the clone, who kind of subverted my personal expectation that Elio would come into conflict with his "normal shadow," while Glordon accidentally created some "evil shadow" designed to perfectly fit his father's expectations to the point that he became a kind of Avengers level threat.

-This has all been done before

Has it? Lilo and Stitch, I'd argue (non-controversially), has a lot more to do with the culture of Hawaii than space exploration. The Incredibles plays with the idea of being special (and how our world treats people who are special), Big Hero 6 is a coming-of-age story about loss and the dark path to revenge, and Buzz Lightyear...

...well, I haven't watched that one. Maybe that's about exploration.

So Elio, someone who doesn't feel loved and doesn't seem to belong, goes somewhere else and they create a "perfect" clone of him. The "perfect" clone isn't even remotely interested in space, he does chores, he behaves well, he relates. To the real Elio, this is a short-lived nightmare. He really, truly doesn't belong and is replaceable.

Only he's not. Neither is his friend. His mother figure recognizes that this is not him and misses the real him, much like Glordon's father.

Then he collaborates with the same people he had come into conflict with. He accepts who he is, idiosyncrasies (if I'm using the word correctly) and all. He wanted to give up everything and disappear, a kind of futurama-like-protagonist with a desire to get away from everything. But like in Futurama, we as an audience begin to recognize that he DOES have a place, to the point that those around him will go to considerable lengths to reunite once again.

As the conversation goes

"She gave up being an astronaut for me."

To which Glordon, without a moment's hesitation, responds:

"Wow, she must really love you!"

I did! It was weird actually. I tend to stay off of my devices until I’m having breakfast but for some reason I just had to check YouTube not long after I woke up and sure enough Avatar Theory had posted a video on the new images. I actually thought it was an edit with Quaritch’s little hoodie. It’s just so funny to me that they made a bunch of merch for a team that’s down to two. (Unless they have backup clones of the recoms but I doubt that) I wanted to take some time to collect my thoughts and see others takes but I think I’m ready now.

I don’t want to get to in depth over things others have gone over. Yes Spider’s been accepted by the Metkayina from his new look and tattoo. (And good god did they accept him quickly because the wound on his chest doesn’t even look fully healed yet. Hell yeah to the Metkayina for that) Yes Quaritch in his silly little hoodie looks really happy to see him but also yeah he’s probably on his bullshit.

I’m thinking more of where does this fall in the story based off of what we already know. I feel like this is probably pretty early on. We know from script leaks that there’s some kind of oil rig/ sea base that I imagine Quaritch and Wainfleet run to right after the battle at three brothers. If I’m using Spider’s wound as a time marker (which I acknowledge could be a little faulty. Different skin tones scar differently and I only have my own to go off of. My skin either changes texture or turns darker. It never permanently stays red which is why I believe Spider’s wound is still fairly fresh) then I believe it’s only been a few weeks since the battle at three brothers rock. So in that time Quaritch would have regrouped, strategized a raid and then executed it, capturing Spider again and who know’s who else.

But I think this will be short lived when the Ash Clan rocks up

That’s the cove of the ancestors. For better or (most likely) worse they are showing up on Sea people land. My guess would be that they’re trying to take them over but end up in a fire fight with the R.D.A instead. This would be why Quaritch and Jake decide to team up going off of Stephan Lang’s interview.



We also know at some point Spider is going to be able to breath Pandoran air thanks to Kiri preforming a miracle. I’m on the fence of when this would be in the film. I think it would work in the beginning of the movie, like Spider gets injured in the initial fire fight, is healed by Kiri and this event acts as the catalyst for Quaritch and Jake’s contentious alliance. But also I like the idea of it being in the climax of the film. After a series of backstabbing and manipulation on Quaritch’s part with Spider trying to legitimately turn his father to the good guys side, Spider gets injured in the big final battle. It’s playing out like Neteyam’s death when Kiri saves him. Quaritch would of course be greatfull. But the miracle also adds to the confusion that Slang talks about here:



Maybe it’s because I’m currently rewatching The Venture Bro’s right now (which is my favorite show hands down and has a lot of messy father son relationships in it) But this sounds to me like Quaritch admires Spider for everything Quaritch himself could have been under different circumstances. Because Spider and Quaritch do share personality traits. Willful, stubborn, values loyalty. And Quaritch is proud of Spider for that. He loves his feisty son. But I imagine he’s also jealous of Spider’s heart. Because Spider is actually pretty open with his emotions. He doesn’t try to hide when he’s crying or when he’s scared. He’s at least emotionally attuned to his friends since when he sees he’s made Kiri uncomfortable by making fun of who her dad is, he immediately turns the conversation onto himself to take the unwanted attention. Spider at his heart is kind and empathetic and I can see Quaritch valuing that while also being envious of what he isn’t. And because he dosen’t think he can be like that he might seek to stomp that out of Spider. So after a big emotional back and forth of Spider trying to save his dad and Quaritch trying to corrupt his son out of jealousy, he nearly watches his only son die only to be saved by a god he would never have believed in. I think that would be an interesting place to leave him before getting into Avatar 4.

But also I’ve read script leaks of Jake and Norm talking about Spider being able to breath Pandoran air and how they can never let the R.D.A get him. So maybe the miracle happens in the opening of the film and becomes a big plot point. (Or maybe that script is from Avatar 4?) Maybe Quaritch attacks, ends up hurting his son in the process, Kiri saves him and then a stunned Quaritch snatches Spider up on instinct, not thinking “hey the science devision of the R.D.A might want to dissect my kid for this!” Maybe Jake attacks the base to get Spider back (which is some redemption I’d love to see) and they’re successful because conveniently the Ash Clan attacks at the same time.

We know Quaritch and maybe Lyle too will be captured by the Ash Clan at some point from this image

So maybe in a fun uno reverse. Quaritch capture Spider only to be captured himself by Varang five minutes later. Or Quaritch willingly gives himself up after seeing Varangs forces first hand and goes to make a deal with her that quickly gets out of hand forcing Quaritch to make an alliance with Jake.

So those are my very unorganized thoughts. Honestly at first the only thing I could thinks was:

Quaritch and Spider: Your family member traumatized you? Just traumatize them back.

hi!! here’s a silly little advertisement I’m making!!

I’m creating a MAP [multi animator project!!!] based off the game Entropy Zero 2 using the song Language of the Lost

this map will focus mainly on Wilson and Clone Cop in the basement with them interacting. it also features Aiden who only appears around the end of the song

I do have a discord set up! I organize everything through here + on the script where I write the names down so people can also check there which parts are taken

lillyspeakz shifting guide.

Now take what I say with an open mind because I’m not a professional at all! I’ve been doing this since I was 13, and I’ve picked some things up, but I’m no where near skilled so this is based off my experiences and my help.

Terms.

Terminology in the shifting world gets a bit- jumbled. There’s many sayings, abbreviations, etc. so here’s a little dictionary for some of that!

DR: Desired Reality. The reality you desire to shift to and be in.

CR: Current Reality. The reality you live in now (bangs my head on a wall)

Scripting: basic guideline for your Dr and what you want to be in it. Like backstory, location, story line, friends, appearance , age, etc.

You do not need a script to shift! I’ll go further into this down with the bullshit talk.

WR: waiting room. A space or room of your choice (hospital room, library, living room, etc.) to wait in as you start to fully shift to your DR.

Again not needed!

Subliminal: an audio you can listen to to boost your shifting experience or to help you focus on your shifting. It’s good to listen to during the day.

Clone: now people believe this and some don’t, but I do because it’s happened 🤪. Anyways! When you shift your body is left obviously so if you wake up or have to do something while your in your DR, it’s basically what your CR self is doing at that time you’re away.

You’re clone will not mess up your life! It still is an embodiment of you and holds your traits and personality! So don’t worry about that, just make sure you add it on your script!

Angel numbers: 111, 222, 333, 444, 555, 777, etc. If you see those at all before you shift or at anytime during the day constantly, it’s a good sign. It’s a manifestation kind of. They can come in pairs of twos- infinite! Beside 6……. Yeah.

Safe word: a word you can use while in your DR when you want to shift back to your CR. Literally can be a phrase or word of you’re liking.

Mine: “fuck your chicken strips!” “Take me home, country road!” “Back to hell I go!”

You can use anything! Song lyrics, a meme, a word, anything.

Affirmations: helps your mind with the shifting process as well and manifest.

Ex.)

I will shift.

I can shift and I am shifting right now.

I’m a master shifter.

I’m in my Dr right now.

I have the ability to shift.

I am focused on shifting to (Dr name).

Shifting is so easy. (Because it is.)

There’s a lot more but there’s some!

Symptom: now… I will say. Some of these are a bit nerve racking but I promise it’s a good sign and it’ll be worth it.

Symptom are what you feel or see or smell when you are fully shifting and in your Dr! These are good signs! For me I get symptoms of falling, light-headed, flickering lights, and I usually smell a faint musk scent. I’ll go more into this in the scripting but symptoms are different for everyone.

You can feel like your flying, your heart starts racing, you hear voices, like your floating, etc. I recommend looking up a website to read more into it.

Methods.

There are an influx of methods you can use! Simply from affirming you are shifting to full on counting backwards and visualization. I will put my subliminal playlist down below that’s on YouTube, but you don’t fully need them. I’ll get more into that but!

Methods: what are they?

They simply help you tap into your subconscious and boost your ability to shift. It helps you imagine your Dr and leave your CR, puts you in the body of your own in the DR and just helps guide you more. They are not at all necessary! You do not need methods to shift! But if you have struggles with visualizing and affirming by yourself, a method with rules and guidelines is for you.

What type of methods are there?

I’ll list a few but I’ll also put a link to a website that explains all of them I didn’t cover.

Some methods I use are:

Pillow method: there’s different pillow methods, but what I do is hold a pillow to my chest or lie my head on it and imagine it’s my s/o in my DR’s chest.

Heartbeat method: find a heartbeat sound on YouTube, put it under your pillow and bam! Make shift chest.

I am: basically saying affirmations over and over.

I don’t use methods as they don’t work for me but! They may work for you.

The website.

This person explains all of these methods very clearly and perfect and there’s so much more than just this too. Like guys! You can make your own method!! It can be anything that helps you to shift. Like being in a movie theatre and waiting for the movie, and once it starts you wake up in your DR. or a coffee shop waiting for your coffee, and finally when your name is called, it’s by your s/o or friends in the DR, waking you up to see them. It’s endless and so easy!

Subliminals.

again! Methods and subliminals are not needed, but they can benefit you in different ways.

There’s not much to say about subliminals besides that theta waves and celestial subliminals are some of the best for shifting.

My playlist has an influx of different subliminals that have helped me shift and helped me manifest different things. So have fun!

Also if a subliminal says “forced” or “curse” before saving it, look at the content creator and look at the comments to make sure it’s safe, and you’re all good. There are some people out there that make screwed up subliminals with bad meanings hidden in them, so please be careful.
