A stationery year in review: 2024
About the same time I got back into film cameras, my stationery obsession revved up as well. It wasn’t like I wasn’t in to stationery before then, but it wasn’t as pronounced as I tried to keep things econo-core: Writing letters with Microns that were demoted from art use, often on the back of a flyer or something. When I got back into regular drawing via Inktober 2019 I started to up my art…

hi, i love your art a lot! do you have a particular go-to with pens/nibs?

thanks and yes! i have a shitload of nibs because i have poor impulse control when it comes to art supplies but my go-to nibs like 95% of the time are the tachikawa T77-2 soft mapping nib for outlines and tachikawa 99 regular mapping nib for crosshatching and almost everything else. lately i've been messing around with a zebra G-nib here and there as well. i have a lot of inks but i pretty much exclusively use speedball super black india ink for dipping. i'm also a big fan of the kuretake ai liner ultra fine brush pen for outlines, clothing folds, etc.
#art supplies#ive given jetpens a truly shameful amount of money over the years and they should really give me a sponsorship or something in recompense

No worries! I use Zebra G-nib, Mapping nib, pentel brush pens and kuretake sumi ink

*announcer voice* King Ghidorah
had finished the pencils a few days ago though for inking I had to stop for a few days so since let it dry. mainly used a G and Maru dip pen though some use of a zebra fine point brush pen & general tech pens. The design is basically from Godzilla Unleashed where they combined Ghidorah's Heisei & GMK look. Feel like it should be a general thing that Ghidorah has his moon crest, otherwise its sorta a generic dragon head design

If I buy a 9-pack sampler of black pens, I can save $0.30 and have within my possession 3 quick-drying pens, including my brain's current requirement for writing notes: the Zebra Sarasa Dry Gel 0.4mm.
And I have to get this particular brand as imported from Japan because the American branch of the company produces shitty pens.
And my brain will not let me focus on my notes because having a Sarasa Dry means I can fucking HIGHLIGHT as opposed to "oh fuck it smeared again (because I used my cheap shitty Pilot G-2 0.38mm I bought in a pack on sale)."

Would you have a recommendation for a fountain pen with a nice, sharp, extra fine, flexy nib similar to the zebra g? Or possibly a pen that can take a zebra g nib?
I’ve never actually tired a zebra g (and I don’t particularly like flex nibs) so I can’t quite compare, I’m sorry! I can however not recommend the Pineider ones as the extra fine is actually very wide.

I FUCKING LOVE PENS!
What are some great dip pens you would recommend to somebody who hasn't the slightest clue on inks or anything? (And what are some spicy takes on pens or pencils you agree on?)
Me too!! Don't really know much about dip pens hah, but when it comes to fountain pens, lamy safari and twsbi swipe and eco have been good to me so far! Best I have with dip pens though is that glass ones seem pretty alright, might be bit scratchy if its cheap but you can sand them, don't really get much width flexibily compared to what you'd get with things like zebra g nibs (I'd assume, haven't tried them myself but I do want to) Also uhhh, the spiciest take I can think of is that i Loathe ink cartridges, they feel impractical and wasteful to me and go against the whole eco-friendliness of fountain pens, and I hate when they come as a bonus with pens because I want to use MY inks, so they just take up space because I don't want to throw them out either.

You can't make a post like that and NOT tell us what fountain pens and inks you use. For some reason the doodle is giving Pilot, but the clip isn't right...
Oh I did not put a whole lot of effort into making that drawing actually accurate lmao, but it's a Noodler's Konrad Flex! With Diamine Eclipse ink :3
I also have a TWSBI Swipe (extra fine nib), a TWSBI Eco-T (1.1mm stub nib), and an off-brand knockoff Kaweco Sport (with a spare TWSBI fine nib that I happened to have around lol), but I don't really use any of those very often nowadays. The stub nib one is on standby for whenever I wanna do some fancy writing, basically lol
Also recently got a dip pen with... shit idk what this nib is, I think it's a Speedball something or other? It was a gift lol, and tbh it seems kinda cheap (not to knock the gift-giver, the main body of the gift was some very nice watercolor paper!), but in any case I've been using that with Speedball Super Black India ink. This was what I lined the ferret girl with :3
I ordered some Zebra G nibs that were supposed to arrive last Tuesday, but it seems they might've gotten lost in the mail :c

dip pens are great. its like wow here's this new zebra g-nib now how do I get the protective coating off so ink will stick on it properly and the answer is
#deercliff talking corner#like. there's other ways. but spit is the most convenient and safest for the nib. sorry

Do you have a favorite ink/pen (or weird cobbled together refil, I have a few weird pens I pry apart just to put India ink into lmao)
Also any favorite recent (to you or otherwise) movies/tv/media. Bonus point if grungy sci-fi or something (been really enjoying your posts, art and reblogs lately!!)
Yeah i use a Zebra G nib and Sumi ink
Not really honestly haha. Ive mostly been working all day and havent had the time to watch things. I did read through Pink Candy Kiss a few days ago and that was a really good read
