I started winding the ends of the strings in all of my guitars about 20 years ago. I used to play guitar while our son took a bath and for some reason he always wanted to grab the strings. One day the string poked his finger so I started doing this so no one would get hurt. I cut some wires and opened up the tone wheel generator on my 1969 L-143. I applied generous amounts of Hammond oil to all areas... And then added more. I reduced the squealing to 3-4 wheels and tracked them down by stopping each wheel until I found the offenders. Oiled some more and got it down to one. At 11:45pm last night, I finally got the last one to stop being noisy! I think this is going to work out!!
