DP x DC prompt [19]

A couple days ago, or maybe it’s been a week now, there had been a horrid storm.

It had been bad enough on the surface but underwater it had caused extremely powerful currents that have dragged a very young Garth away and into the unknown.

He really should have listened to Atlan and stayed put…

Lost and alone, a Little Garth has found himself a lot closer to the surface than usual, the sea currents are still churning pretty bad and he simply can’t navigate his way back to anything remotely familiar.

At this point he’s quite hungry and tired, and he’s found that catching something is somewhat easier nearer to the surface.

However, now something entirely different has caught his attention.

still safely tucked away under the waves. Garth is watching two surface dwellers. judging by size they should be even younger than Garth is, which probably means their caretaker(s) are nearby.

Garth is about to leave them to it and go his own way when he catches on to the erratic kicking movements of the smallest one.

oh, he’s pretty sure surface dwellers aren’t supposed to stay underwater that long, that is if Atlan’s stories are correct.

And even though he’s somewhat terrified, he finds he can’t just… though he probably should…

Well, he ends up saving Danny from drowning.

Jazz and Danny’s parents are busy with a supposed haunted shipwreck and not paying attention.

But by saving Danny Garth found by Maddie and Jack. Who are worried that Garth is there all alone which is like... kinda hypocritical but whatever.

No ghost, but they got a sea boy!

and that quickly has them reassessing their disappointing conclusion that the wreck isn’t haunted, clearly the ghosts are somewhere underwater! After all, the ship was lost at sea and simply washed ashore.

Garth can’t really communicate that great with the Fenton’s. He doesn’t know english, and they do not have telepathy, the only thing he can catch from them is impressions of their emotions, which does make figuring out “yes” and “no” a bit easier.

At first he decides to accept their offer of shelter and food simply because he’s tired and hungry, and they seem like good people even if they are from the surface.

Then Garth makes the mistake of getting attached. All of a sudden he’s put in a eldest brother role. Jazz is determined to teach him english with her kid books and Danny has been attached to him like a barnacle ever since Garth got him out of the water.

And Garth’s needs aren’t even remotely treated as some sort of annoyance, they make note of his need for lots of water and adapt easily.

Everything is extremely overwhelming but thankfully for Garth they don't make the offer to take him with them to Amity Park right away.

They are on a family trip so they stick to the sea for another week and a half or so. After that they ask if he wants to just come with, Danny basically begs him, having an older brother seems like the best thing ever to him.

And Garth ends up taking the offer cause the last week was better than most of his lonely life so far, even if everything is weird and difficult and he can't communicate right.

So I have been musing all night on a variety of things and one of those things is that Helena Diaz is going to have a stroke and it will be the thing that leads to her redemption!

Hear me out. I don’t think Helena deserves redemption for her behaviour, but ultimately she’s going to get it because that is what this show does with the parents of our mains. The reason they all get redemption is because the things they need redeeming for are aspects of their children’s journeys on the show - so they are mirrors and allegories for the things our mains need to figure out and work on about themselves.

I could write a whole meta about this concept but I don’t really have the capacity right now.

But I will talk about the Diaz’s. Ramon and his heart issues, his triple bypass, was all about Eddie’s own heart issues. Ramon got his redemption because Eddie was able to resolve at least a good chunk of his heart issues. The Ramon aspect isn’t yet fully resolved - we were shown improvements (Eddie talking to him via video call etc) but it’s flared back up again with Helena and Ramon coming to take Chris back to Texas.

So Ramon is the metaphor for Eddie’s heart.

Helena will get her redemption because she is a representation of Eddie’s head - of his mind and ultimately Eddie will figure out his mind and that will mean redemption for Helena.

And that is why I think her having a stroke is where we’re headed. A stroke is an interruption of blood flow to the brain and it can impact any aspect of a person - speech, mental capacity, mobility etc etc. It stems from the heart and the impact on a person can be massively reduced by early medical intervention - the earlier the intervention the better the chances of its effects being very limited.

If all things heart related were resolved and fixed, Ramon would’ve stood up for Eddie and pushed for Chris to only go to Texas for a few weeks at most, for Chris and Eddie to talk - to go to therapy etc together to resolve things. But he didn’t and that is the flow of blood from the heart to the brain being interrupted.

A stroke is the head being affected by the heart. Eddie having done some work on his heart allowed him to get to where he is, but he’s still not resolved all his heart issues - in much the same way that things are not There are still some aspects he needs to work on, and that is what is leading to

That is so representative of where Eddie is at in his journey - he is at this turning point - on his own and having to figure out who he is and who he wants to be. But the longer it takes him to figure that out the greater the chances of lasting and damaging impact.

If he doesn’t figure things out - he runs the risk of never being able to repair things with Chris. If he doesn’t resolve the Shannon and divorce etc aspect of things, he’s running the risk of never being able to embrace love and relationships etc.

He’s at the point where he can still intervene early - there will be some damage (there already is) but he can limit that damage and recover.

So yeah Helena stroke as a metaphor for Eddie sorting out all the mental stuff he needs to sort out and how it would play into the heart metaphor and Ramon as part of that is where I’m at!!

Good mood ruined. Nothing irks me more than people who deal with their insecurities/social anxieties not by reasoning with themselves, but by turning their unreasonable expectations for themselves into a virtue and then holding others to that standard, so that their fears can be recontextualised as "good" and therefore no longer something to worry about.

No, someone not noticing that their shopping cart is in the way for a second is not a bad person deserving of shame.

No, someone accidentally talking a little too loud when they're excited doesn't deserve the silent treatment from you for "embarrassing you in public."

No, someone politely asking for condiments, straws, or otherwise perfectly acceptable services from a fast food worker isn't an embarrassing Karen moment that they should feel regretful for.

Neither is asking an employee a question.

People existing in ways that are slightly "in the way" or take up some kind of societal space is not as bad as you think it is, and enforcing that on yourself is completely useless. And if you enforce those beliefs on other people, disrespectfully, go join the circus or something where your tomfoolery will serve a purpose.

The people in public you inconvenience for ⅛ of a second aren't going to remember you in 10 minutes from now when they go home. But your family and friends will remember how you wouldn't get off your high horse about being better citizens than them based on arbitrary and self-destructive/minimising actions. You do not need to offer up yourself and other people around you for ritual seppuku to gain their favour when you or someone from your party accidentally bumps into a stranger. You're just an asshole. Your virtues are not mine.
