so. i finally rewatched the old guard 2 last weekend and i’ve been sitting with way too many feelings. the first time i was just overwhelmed and stupidly happy about all the andromaquynh. i was ecstatic and borderline malfunctioning. but i wanted to go back with a clearer head like i used to with the first film where every rewatch revealed something new.

unfortunately that didn’t happen. second watch just left me frustrated and honestly, sad.

what made tog1 so good was how careful it was. it balanced action with emotion. it let the characters be complex and human. it gave space for the quiet moments to hit just as hard as the big ones. this one felt rushed. empty. like they had all these characters but no real idea how to connect them. no heart holding it up. like they lost all the depth and quiet nuance that made them who they were. barely any time for them to actually react to each other because all of that got pushed aside in favor of big flashy action sequences that didn’t mean anything.

it’s hard to even pick it apart when there’s barely anything holding it together. the characters felt flat, like stripped-down versions of themselves. the plot didn’t follow through on anything the first movie built. it felt like a completely different story awkwardly stapled onto the same cast with a few big names thrown in for show at the cost of the depth that made the original characters matter. weak writing, but the performances carried it through.

i’m not mad just disappointed. it feels like i’m grieving what it could’ve been.

When Bashir gets himself kidnapped just before the conference on Romulus, Luther Sloan's first response is a ginormous surge of irritation. He doesn't have time to go rescuing Julian Bashir. But, after a second's thought, he realises that this might actually be a chance to get in Julian's good books, and show him how fortunate it is that Sloan's been keeping such a close eye on him.

(Though not close enough, clearly. He'd have to correct that, when they get back.)

However, when Luther finds Julian, the stubborn doctor starts accusing him of arranging this kidnapping, and he is forced to explain at great length how grateful Julian should be that Sloan's taken it upon himself to act as his guardian angel. Unfortunately, his recital is cut short when his reflexes tell him he is being attacked, and all too soon he finds himself locked up alongside a now extremely irate Bashir.

Of course, Sloan's far from the only person to have been keeping track of Julian's whereabouts. With the advantage of having his own spaceship, he'd beaten Garak to Julian's position by a couple of hours, but it's admittedly a relief that the Cardassian's weird fixation on the doctor has brought him here in such a reasonably timely fashion.

Garak, however, does not seem convinced that he should allow Sloan to go. It's sweet to hear Julian begging for him - "I like him even less than you do, Garak," (Luther will ignore that bit), "but we can't just leave him here, he needs immediate medical attention. I can't let him stay here too die." - but he wishes the Cardassian would show some more consideration in hurrying the fuck up and getting them all out of here, before—

Their captors return. Wonderful. They give Bashir a taster of what will happen to Garak if the doctor doesn't start co-operating soon, then leave the three of them alone to stew for a little longer. Julian's soft hands seem to caress all the places Luther's hurting - he's really hoping the doctor had been exaggerating how close he is to death to better persuade Garak - but all too soon they're gone. Luther is somewhat glad he can't move his head; he does not want to see the doctor fawning over the Cardassian right now.

"Please tell me you let someone know where you were going," he hears Julian mutter.

"I'm sure Captain Sisko and Constable Odo have their own methods of ensuring I don't get... lost. They're surprisingly capable, on occasion."

That's a 'no', then.

"Garak," Julian groans softly.

Something i noticed recently...

Something I noticed about Eclipse and his relationship with each of his kids is that each one of them resembles one of his creations in some way or form.

For example:

Andrew reminds me a lot of Solar Flare. Both are/were very close to Eclipse and understood him in some way.

Jake and Andy remind me of Bloodmoon, not just in the whole two in one body kind of thing, but in the sense that they were used by somebody else in some way.

And finally Charlie, who reminds me a lot of Lunar. She's just as extroverted, just as excited and just as lovable as he was when he was younger.

The difference is unlike Flare, Andrew wasn't forced to stay with Eclipse, unlike Bloodmoon, Jake and Andy never left Eclipse's side and unlike Lunar, Charlie is being kept in the loop of what's happening and is treated right.

after vriska physically turns tavros’s brain into mush and puts together her pirate crew, (quick shoutout to sollux for not letting her live down all the stupid shit she did) she finds out about the ring of life that hussie was going to give her she IMMEDIATELY starts SCREAMING at tavros to get it for her like the selfish brat that she is

she’s willing to completely abandon her plans and crew in the dream bubbles to become relevant again because why wouldn’t she

finally tavros has had enough of her bullshit and basically says “i’d rather die than stand another second listening to you” and then fef sol and nep all join the “fuck this” club and leave

and then when tavros manages to build up a huge army by just being himself she CANT BELIEVE IT. even though she wanted tavros to become stronger she can’t accept the fact he got there through words and not force
