Hope that’s fine with you, hope you’re well! :D
Absolutely! Thanks for making me write!! <3 Sorry it's so late.
🦋
“… Okay,” Isabella reluctantly agreed. “But call me if you need me! And don’t be afraid to ask Uncle Perry if you need something. I promise he’s really sweet.” It was sad, that her friend knew how much her parents sucked, even before they kicked her out, and that she felt the need to reassure Adyson that Perry apparently wasn’t like them. “Thanks, Iz,” she said. “I’ll see you when you get back from your grandma’s.”
☕️
She’d called the Flynn-Fletcher household during lunch that day, hoping to catch one of the parents, but knowing she’d probably have to leave a message. If she remembered correctly, Mr. Fletcher was a professor at Danville University, and while Mrs. Flynn-Fletcher was a housewife, every time Miss Walters spoke to her, the woman mentioned a club or charity or event she had just come from. She seemed like a very busy person. When she got an answering service, though, she was a bit surprised. She hadn’t thought about how the boys’ uncle would talk on the phone, being mute, and when Ferb had gotten sick, the front office had called the family. But she did her best to follow the person on the other end’s instructions on how to talk for the teletyper system to work, and she managed to set up an appointment to discuss Ferb’s needs for that afternoon. At first, Miss Walter’s had been reluctant to set the appointment up with the boy’s uncle, but she remembered the principal had been very firm that the man was to be treated as another parent to the boy’s. She was still relieved, though, when he said that their mother would be coming as well.

⚽️⚽️⚽️ THANKS TALLYYYYYYYYY
You're welcome!! I'm going to also write ☕️ to share! Here you go. Sorry it's so late.
The longer the school year went on, the more and more she worried about Ferb. She thought at first he might just be shy, and so she waited for him to warm up to her, but still, he never said a word. Sometimes, he’d come stand close by her and stare intently, but he never would end up telling her what he wanted. Instead, Phineas would come by a minute or two later and tell her what Ferb supposedly was requesting. He also never spoke to any of the other children in the class. He’d quietly play with them if they came by, but it was always his brother that spoke to the other kids. She tried putting the two at separate tables, just to give Ferb some space to grow socially, away from his brother, but Ferb seemed to shut down even more at that, refusing to even interact with the other children, and ignoring her when she came by his table. Then that day at lunchtime, she watched as Phineas tearfully ran over to his brother, grabbing his hand and staying glued to the boy all through lunch and recess. After that, she put them back at the same table, side-by-side. She just didn’t know what else she could do. Clearly, having them together wasn’t helping Ferb, but having them apart was even worse. However, soon it’d be time for this year’s kindergartners to move onto first grade, and she didn’t think Ferb was there socially or developmentally, so she called a conference with his parents. She felt like she didn’t have any other choice but to recommend he be held back a year.

And ☕
Can do! Thank you! Sorry this is so late!
Mrs. Flynn-Fletcher had warned her that Ferb was a quiet boy, but that he would be alright, and that he’d speak up if he truly needed something. However, Miss Walters hadn’t heard him say a word all year. Every time, it was little Phineas saying, “Miss Walters, Ferb needs to get a drink,” “Miss Walters, Ferb needs to use the bathroom,” “Miss Walters, Ferb’s going to be sick.” (Of course, that one time, the poor boy ended up puking, and the boy’s… uncle? came by to pick both boys up, just to be safe.)

☕️ this is always fun 👀
I know. This'll be a fun fic once I actually figure out what I'm trying to do with it and get it done XD Sorry to answer your ask so late!
Miss Walters adored every single one of her kindergartners. She always did. Ever since she’d started student teaching, she found it a joy to get to go to work and help the children she was in charge of. Obviously there were hard days, and not every student was perfect, but overall she loved her job. It was why she was so worried when she had students like the Flynn-Fletcher boys. At first when she’d seen them on her roster for the year, she hadn’t thought anything of it. The two boys had different last names, so she’d assumed they were from different families. But on the first day of school, their mother, Linda Flynn-Fletcher arrived, introduced herself, and introduced Miss Walters to her son and step-son.

Because I loved this piece so much, I went ahead and commissioned @toadstool32 again so I'd have a matched set of Agent Perry and Dad Perry! I also wanted to celebrate finishing the sequel to Perry-digm Shift (which you can read on AO3 here!)
I love all the details on this: the shirt, the locket, the mug!! It's all so great! Thank you for such a great piece. <3
(If you're interested in commissioning Tiny, you can find more information here.)

🦋 I have been worried about how this turned out since the 5+1!!
No worries, I gotchu!
“I don’t know,” Adyson admitted honestly. She sat down in one of the dining chairs and curled in on herself. “It’s… been a lot.” “Do you want me to call the other girls? Do you need someone to come be with you?” Isabella asked. “I can ask my mom if we can head home early!” “That’s not necessary,” she quickly interjected. “… But I appreciate it.”

o7 Can do!
“Adyson?” Isabella asked, sounding even more confused now. “What are you doing with Uncle Perry’s phone?” “Um…” She wasn’t sure how to tell her friend, but she was a Fireside Girl, darn it. She could be brave. “My- my parents kicked me out. So I came here,” she said. Isabella gasped. “Oh no! Adyson! Are you okay? Of course, you’re not okay, what am I saying? How are you feeling?” she asked, rapid-fire.

omg adyson pov fic!! 🦋🦋🦋 welcome to fo the flynn-fletcher family, kiddo ! ?
I had to, after Birds of a Feather. I just couldn't leave her like that without a little more comfort. Enjoy! (And thanks for making me write!)
Adyson shook her head, and Perry nodded, then gathered a bunch of ingredients from the fridge and got to work cooking. “Do you… Do you want help?” she quietly asked. [No, sweetheart,] Perry signed. [I’m alright. Do you want to text your friends while I get this done?] She went to pull out her phone from her pocket before remembering and swallowed harshly. “… My parents still have my phone,” Adyson told him. Perry’s brow furrowed slightly, and there was a flash of a frown on his face, before it was replaced with that soft smile he’d been giving her all morning. He pulled his own phone out of his pocket, unlocked it, and slid it across the counter to her. [If you remember their numbers, you can call them with my phone. Otherwise, you can text Phineas to get them,] he signed. Slowly, Adyson reached out and took the phone. “Thanks,” she said. He nodded and went back to working on breakfast. Adyson dialed Isabella’s number – the only one of her friends whose number she had memorized – and hoped she wasn’t calling at a bad time. “Hello, Uncle Perry?” Isabella answered, sounding confused. “Hi, Isabella,” she said, trying to muster up a bit of cheer, but struggling. “It’s Adyson.”

“Did you forget what you wanted to say?”
“Uhm, yeah. Was something about the sighting, right?” Nancy nodded. “Okay, let me try again…” he took air again. “Three months ago, the locals began to talk about a possible beast walking… Well, around the forest and like…” he sighed, a bit frustrated. “Sorry.”
“No, don't worry.” Nancy frowned. “Everything okay?”
“Yeah, no, everything–”

Polycule but it’s just two people in a romantic relationship with each other and their third who’s pretty obviously aroace but also somehow so deeply intertwined in their lives that it’d just be wrong to not count them as involved. Is this anything.

I've finished the sequel to Perry-digm Shift, as well as a fic set in the future of the 'verse, and three tie-in one shots!
I'm currently working my way through editing, and then after that's done, y'all are going to get another long run of daily updates to the series (about three weeks and 70k worth)!

I really really really don't know who to ask and I'm new to AO3😢😥😥 Is commenting too much awkward??? I'm socially inadept and interacting with people online gives me an overload of anxiety and recently I've found this fic and fell super deep in love with it and commented massive messages on each chapter. The author replied to me at the beginning but recently they just stopped (hi I understand it's not the author's job to reply and they're likely busy with their life too) but I can't help but be kind of worried that I somehow had put them off (because my comments sometimes involves analyzations and if I get into something too much I can be too excessive) I plead for advice is this normal???
while I can only speak for myself, I as a writer absolutely LOVE it when people give me long comments (the longer, the better lol) and, for me personally, there’s no such thing as too many comments.
love love love love these long comments, they help motivate me, especially when my readers give me deep analysis on the characters and/or their actions.
anyway, fellow writers, reblog if you love long positive comments

hey talanashta! i have a question ive been wondering about for a while: does perry himself identify as asexual in the flynn-fletcher family-inator verse?
like, we know that perry is ace; you've said it directly in comments/hc answes and he's definitely written as bring ace. but i also remember your initial authors note on perry-digm shift thay he uses different terms for his gender identification based on what would be norms of the time, which i think is such a special detail of identity vs label and such. and i reread birds of a feather today and saw that perry referred to himself as gay rather than anything else (tho obviously given the context of talking to baljeet and experience or lack thereof of gay vs bisexual)
but yeah anyway, ive just been curious about this for a while, again given the distinction you made of id-ing transsexual vs transgender vs trans as time progresses, and how i don't think being asexual/ace has been brought up in fic (yet. if this is spoilers for or otherwise relevant to a future fic such as 🛠 like i suspect it very well might be, you dont have to confirm or deny anything, im more than happy to see how it plays out 💚💚)
Hi!! First off, thanks for the ask! I love getting to talk about this series, so I was super excited to see this in my inbox!
So, the main question here is "Does Perry identify as ace/asexual?", and to be honest, the answer (at the time of the first fic in the series) is no.
My headcanon is that Perry is gay, demiromantic, and asexual, and I write him as such in the series, but he very much only identifies and labels himself as the first one for a very long time.
The first fic takes place from 1997-2007, and so Perry wouldn't have had a lot of easily accessible information on these kinds of things from the internet. While that information was out there, it was a lot harder to find. And I believe Perry is a pretty closed-off person, so he wasn't exactly hanging out at a lot of gay bars/other queer establishments, therefore I don't think he would've gotten some of that deeper community knowledge.
Also, Perry isn't really a guy that thinks too deeply about his personal identity and those kinds of labels. He's a man of action. While he understands that the terms changed for his trans identity and he's shifted to adapt to them as time has gone by, it's not really for his personal benefit. It's to blend in.
He identifies as whatever's easiest for other people to understand and that doesn't make him stand out much more than he already does.
Also, I think some of this is also super evident in the way that he just calls Linda and Lawrence "his friends". He knows they're more than just his friends, they know they're more than just his friends, but their relationship isn't one that would be generally considered "socially acceptable" (especially in 2007) and also, he doesn't feel like he needs other people's opinions of it getting tied up in how he feels about them. So while he does occasionally think of them as his life partners/platonic spouses, generally he just sticks with "friends".
As long as they know how he feels, it doesn't matter what it's called (in his opinion), and it's easier and safer just to use certain terms over others.
(Later in life, once he's out of the agent business and has had time to break free of a lot of the social conditioning that OWCA put him through, I think he's more willing to be truly himself and care a little less what people think. You can already see the start of this at the end of Perry-digm Shift.)
As time goes on, and the internet becomes more widespread, I think he would eventually discover the label of ace/asexual and internalize it, but I think that information would really just be used for his personal understanding of "oh, this is a normal thing that happens and this is how other people deal with it".
I think the same would happen for the label of demiromantic.
While those labels definitely fit how he feels, he'd only need to use them for someone outside of his relationship(s), and he doesn't feel like that's information that strangers need to know. Linda, Lawrence, and Heinz already understand (or will understand in Heinz's case) these things about Perry, so what difference does the word itself make?
Anyway, hope this helps answer your question!
Keep an eye out, though, for future installments, because Perry definitely gives his perspective on these concepts in them. (And like I said and you noticed, his perception is definitely not quite the same as the outside perception!)
