A personal record of my journey learning to draw from a complete beginner. My art sucks and that's okay. Tips and critique are welcome.

Value Studies and Drawabox Progress
I haven't posted in a while but I have been busy. I did 25 Textures Challenge and I'm currently waiting for the extra credit to apply for official critique. I am also almost finished with Lesson 4 (insects, yuck!) only a couple more drawings left to do. I haven't been doing much of traditional drawings, instead, I'm learning digital. I've done a couple of value studies and one color drawing so far. With Lessons done I guess I'll have much more time to draw just for fun.
Here's what I've got so far:

Lesson 3 Finished
Hurray! 🥳 It took me longer than usual as I've had other engagements in my life and didn't get to draw every day but I hope to get back to it starting today. Here's my work for Lesson 3

And some of the work for 50%. I didn't get much drawn the last month I need to get my 💩 together in June 🤞🏼

March Promtathon
Finished the Promtathon!
Day 1 was a WANTED poster and I drew the cat I'm currently fostering. Digital. He is going to a forever home today

Day 2 was "Between Two Slices" so basically a sandwich

Drawn with alcohol markers from this reference

Day 3 was "Like Clowns in a Bank". I drew a cat getting in the way of drawing boxes 😸 Also markers on paper

Day 4 was "The King of Spring". I drew a fawn as they are spawned in spring. Lower effort drawing this day, pencil on paper

Day 5 was "A Reversal of Fear". I have arachnophobia and technically should've drawn a spider but I'd have to look at pictures of them for reference and I can't do that. Just pretend it's a spider, ok? On a side note: I'm NOT looking forward to Lesson 4 for that reason 🫣

Day 6 was "Scrapyard Steed" and I really blew this one. That day I ran a long run for the first time in 6 months and was very tired so I just drew this very poorly and quickly.

And the final day was "As Seen Through Fresh Eyes" which required basically to design a character based on an animal. I drew a running mushroom 😆 Digital

And so this concludes the March Promptathon, I hope I'll improve my skills by the time the next one drops.

Lesson 2 Finished
It took me longer than I expected but I finished Lesson 2 and got feedback right before the Promtathon. Haven't kept with 50% rule all the time but got to dabble with digital art a bit.
Textures were fun but challenging, I see my mistakes but if you don't look too closely they look kinda cool 😀

Here's some of the other 50%:
My first digital

Jeb

A doggo

Island

For the first day of promtathon

Photoshop gave me real trouble with this one, I've almost rage-quit altogether because every time I used a brush or eraser I'd see white squares in place where I used the tool. I have a powerful gaming PC, up to date graphics driver but no matter what I did (even restarted the damn computer) I still had this issue. I had to remove artboards with references and this fixed it.

Finished Textures Homework
Phew, as the title says, I've just finished my Textures homework from Drawabox. It was the hardest lesson to date but I enjoyed analyzing references and I think I got the idea of drawing shadows instead of outlines. I don't like how my HW turned out though. I will try this exercise with different textures in the future and see if I can do better.

Here's my 50%, I love doing hands, I think they turn out quite alright

Hawfinch - my favourite bird! (still struggle with perspective)

and a cute frog

Progress
Started doing Lesson 2 on Drawabox aaand I'm having trouble with ellipses 😣 I should've practiced them more for my warmups. Well, no point dwelling on it now, I started practising them more, hopefully they'll improve.

A couple of drawings I did using markers for my 50%, all A4

First astro sketch
Started reading a new art book called "Astronomical Sketching: A Step-by-Step Introduction"

It starts with a demonstration of how to sketch lunar surface. Since the moon is below the horizon until 5 am and I don't have a telescope anymore anyway, I had to use a photo as a reference. Behold, my first drawing of a moon crater

Also, did some basic practice. I gotta say, circles are getting rounder, still lopsided but not complete potatoes.

Hello, stranger reading this. I'm not even sure anybody is reading this. Anyway, my 2025 resolution was to learn to draw. I had wanted to learn this for years—I even had a sketchbook that was half full, even though I'd bought it in 2014. So, since January 1st, 2025, I've been drawing every day. I'll post all of my sketches here to have a record of my progress.
I'm learning this by myself, so any comments and critiques are more than welcome. I'm not easily offended, so please feel free to trash my art :)
To start this off, let me show you today's sketch of a bleach bottle

Didn't nail the one in perspective but the others I'm okay with. Drawn from life using Sharpie ultra fine point
