SHE’S  NOT  ONE  TO  HUNT  SINGLE  TARGET ,    too few thrills to be found in an easy job   /   too risky to bring along her  FULL  arsenal for neutralizing only one threat .    would almost call it boring ,  stalking the streets looking for a demon matching the brief description given by her employer ,  carrying in her holsters a pair of pistols & not nearly enough grenades .    it was the vague promise of this being a creature unlike any she’s seen before ,  a demon like no other ,  that kept her steps heavy & her eyes peeled .    empty words ,  lady first thought ,  she’s fought plenty of monsters that defy understanding ,  creatures that stalk her nightmares as she once stalked them .    but the certainty with which these words were said & the sinister glint beneath her employer’s eyes did captivate just the slightest .    nice pay did its part too .

it was turning a fortunate corner ,  away from the large crowds that shamble through the open road from a night of heavy drinking ,  that gave lady a glimpse of the subject of her hunt ,  dragging away an unfortunate woman to serve as its dinner .    would’ve almost been disturbed if such sights were not far too common .    does take a few moments to wander if she wasn’t lied to before she slowly approaches ,  fingers twitching ,  always ready for the thrill of pulling a trigger .   she stops a few feet away ,  waiting to be noticed ,  no point in a surprise attack .

there’s strange confusion in the moment when eyes meet & the victim is led away ,  a shift in the expectation of a hostage she’d have to be careful not to shoot .    words subvert it too ,  no desire for confrontation ,  or turning down one meal for another .    maybe this would be different ,  but lady remains a devil hunter all the same ,    ❝    i don’t consider eatin’ humans fun ,  personally ,  but killing demons ?    NOW  THAT’S  FUN .    ❞

Confusion on one face becomes a show of confusion on another, making itself at home with a quick eyebrow raise and the curled skin of a lip. Been a while since the word demon was directed at her, even longer still since a hunter crawled out with her in mind. Flattery and annoyance joined together, but with a dismissive wave of a hand she moved on. A quick glance around was taken as a means of counting heads but it was just one woman among the inebriated. No other hunter hid among the groups of bodies or in darkened corners — odd. but perhaps exciting. 

Annoyance then shifted into something joyful and smiley, the vampire engaged as if the woman didn’t plan to kill her in a few moments. But hell, if she’s not being attacked yet she may as well use the gift of gab. ❛ Demons usually aren’t on my hit list, a lot of effort is required for those bastards. ❜ 

One hand gestured between the hunters, one ready to kill and the other ready to continue on with her day, ❛ See, I prefer quick bites, low effort and I get to keep my clothes clean. ❜ Talk was cheap, far more available than anything on the market and usually, just as useful as any bullet in being a distracting source of noise. With every sentence, she moved closer, daring not to run but stalk. ❛ But you don’t seem the type to care, do you? ❜

84 degrees today folks — no chance of rain was what newscaster whoever the fuck happily announced on the tv screen hours early; setting the golden standard for a perfect day to get out of a dungeon people called their homes and live a little. Shake the table, drink a beer, make some noise in the clubs. Token actions of anyone old enough and awake enough with the sun saying goodbye and the moon announcing her presence. Prime time for the matriarch to do her nightly duties: surveying the masses ( and their stores ) but more importantly, hunting down food. Ravers, lawyers, college kids, teachers, each one on the proverbial menu for the low cost of free ninety-ninety nine. Her wiles had just caught one too, curled up around an arm,a lovely lady with a name she didn’t care about but she was curious enough to follow Eshe’s lead.

New to the game she was, which she was well-suited to play the partial horror victim of the night. At least, until one other woman caught her eye, hair in a bob — eyes ready, and the smell of something distinctly modern. That was enough of a signal for the shit she didn’t want to deal with around a random person, and with a sigh, she shook the would be meal off, making empty promises for meetings or other, all while keeping stranger number two in her sights. 

When her heels started to clack a little quieter in the distance, that was when she spoke. 

❛ You know, when I woke up this morning I didn’t expect to have to deal with bullshit. ❜ Well manicured nails pluck and push strands from her face, setting the straps of a dress back into place. ❛ How about we take a rain check? Continue this on a day when I’m not trying to have fun? ❜
