Today’s match in a nutshell is pictured above.
I met my old enemy Dragon once again, and this time he wasn’t messing around with his list... but neither was I.
I put aside a few hours today to come up with an improved US list, and the result was a faster, meaner Super Pershing that gets 8 attack dice when at close range, of which it can reroll all 1s. Discarding the TDs for now, I had it supported by two Stuarts (with Bloodthirsty Gunners each as well) and two stock Priests.
Tumblr media
They were up against a Crusader, a Churchill, and two beefy Priests.
One of my Stuarts took out the Crusader right away, but both of my Stuarts then fell victim to the enemy tanks - and especially the artillery. I quickly decided to ignore the Churchill for the most part (after damaging it severely, though) and went to force the enemy Priests to move. It was the only way to get them to give up some of their bonuses.
In a drive-by-shooting of sorts, my Super Pershing took care of the Churchill, and the remaining enemy Priests couldn’t run away for a long time. The last one was surrounded and couldn’t shoot back thanks to awkward positioning.
Due to how we decided the bushes would work this time, my own Priests were mostly useless throughout the majority of the match. But seeing as they were at full health, and how my Super Pershing was too, it wasn’t too worrying. Might have to think of something if I want to keep using them, though.

Wow, it’s really been ages since my last match!
I don’t have a lot of time (it’s late) so my match report won’t be too long.
After a long time since our last match, Dragon and I managed to schedule a little fight. It’s been months, so we were both a little rusty on the rules and strategies, though Dragon seemed to have a harder time than I did recalling the more important facts.
We both grabbed more or less random lists from our respective pile of platoons. I surprised myself with an improved version of my standard list, which I seemingly hadn’t playtested yet. Some choices confused me a bit, so I feel like there’s potential for improvement still.
One thing I don’t like to see on the opponent’s side is Jagdpanthers. Or Tigers. And especially not both. They were backed up by a StuG.
Tumblr media
The city map meant careful movement and checking lines of sight a lot. I had learned from past encounters and made sure to expose my tanks to as few guns as possible at all times. This meant missing out on some possible shots, but I was playing it safe. Right in the beginning, I could have rushed in and tried to kill something, but I knew my tanks would just get torn apart if I did that.
Instead, I moved from cover to cover and made SHAMELESS use of the Cautious rule that my tank destroyers have.
See, my rolls were terrible all match. The occasional lucky save really didn’t make up for how awful my attack rolls were throughout. And that damn StuG seemed to be unkillable! I managed to bail it out right away, but that got repaired. My Jackson took it out eventually, but had to expose himself to do this in a way that killed him. I managed to kill the Jagdpanther also when my Wolverine could sneak up on it.
Tumblr media
Then, the hunt for the Tiger began. Since I had ignored it all match, it was still on full health. This was actually a lesson I learned while playing Flames of War - Tigers are best ignored until the end.
My Super Pershing hadn’t taken any damage yet and my Wolverine was still at full health as well. I went about chasing the Tiger around, made sure to stay Cautious with my Wolverine but got bold otherwise, and eventually finished the job with my Super Pershing.
Tumblr media
My last roll of the match was finally a good one: 6 hits in 6 dice. The Tiger, down to 2 HP at that point, couldn’t save.

I’m a bit annoyed because they’re releasing a bunch of lend lease, also an early T-34, and the KV-1 as well as the KV-1S this year for the Russians. But no KV-2 anywhere in sight. Abloo.

“They had us surrounded again, the poor bastards.”
It’s been a while!
Hello friends!
Unfortunately I’ve been busy for a long time, but recently I’ve started trying to play more Tanks again. In fact there’s currently a match in progress, and today I will meet a certain someone on the battlefield again.
As for the current match, it’s not concluded yet, but I will give you a little impression of the general direction it’s taken. In case it’s hard to see, my opponent’s three T-34-85s ganged up on my Super Pershing. Let me sum up in pictures what happened next:

Holy shit, yesterday’s match was amazing. You can find a stream of it here! Sorry for the poor stream quality at times (aka slideshow mode), my recording software must have acted up. :/  So additionally, lemme give you some lots of background info and a review of what happened.
First off let me say right away: My opponent walked into this match thinking he’d face my Super Pershing. However, I actually showed up with a very different list.... Enter the Russians.
If you wanna skip the list talk ahead, here’s links to: My list Dragon’s list
== START OF LIST TALK ==
I know I say this every time, but this was a complete crackpot list. I wanted to build something mean around the ISU-152. Even though I like it, it’s not a remarkable tank on its own. Big weaknesses, not really much payoff.
But if it hits, it can do nasty damage. The whole Big Gun thing. So I thought, why not make it even nastier? Add a No Retreat doctrine and a Sharpshooter Gunner - boom, suddenly those attack rolls hurt a lot more. Also add another health point and a re-roll for a defence die. Just in case. Looks good so far.
But was that nasty enough? Not at all.
My original plan was to have it accompanied by a horde of T-34s - four of them, to be exact. But as I tried to give them minimal upgrades, I realized that a certain ... something was missing. I traded two of the T-34s for one of my bitter arch-enemies: A T-34-85. They have worked great for my enemies, so why not for me also?
And then I saw the one card that I never knew existed, and that I never knew how much I needed it. Look up the driver Vasily Krysov. Or let me tell you what he does: +2 init, re-roll as many defence dice as you made movements in that turn. For six points. Added to the 85 faster than you can say Motherland.
Are you writhing with disgust yet? I also gave my 85 a re-rolled attack die and Bloodthirsty Gunners for him and the T-34s.
Keep in mind that throwing this list together took me about fifteen minutes. I expected it to fail terribly.
== END OF LIST TALK ==
My opponent showed up with Brits. Those were mean Brits, definitely. I didn’t know what the Achilles could theoretically do, because in the very first turn, he somehow ended up in line of sight of all my four tanks. The fact that the table was really open (while giving some cover still) really helped me set up nice firing lines.
Tumblr media
I mean, he did get to shoot first. Unfortunately he achieved nothing that way, and then failed his Cautious roll .... and the re-roll .... You can imagine what happened next.
Tumblr media
My little T-34s (named Vanya and Borschtsch) just stuck together and moved at maximum speed at all times. The 85 and the ISU-152 were fine on their own, honestly, but I did try to keep the 85 near his little brothers for the occasional bonus and also had him move as much as possible.
The situation here was a really interesting one, because both sides had Fast tanks - my opponent had two extremely buff Cromwells. Other than that, he also had a Churchill, which was incredibly tough thanks to being able to reroll a defence die (of which it got 6 most of the time anyway) and also repairing on 3+.
Generally, my opponent always got to shoot first with all his tanks, and moved last as well (except for the Churchill, who was before my 85). But guess what: It didn’t even matter. I kept my ISU out of reach and away from the action, so it never even once got shot while getting free snapshots on whatever got into its line of fire.
Once I realized that Fast and Fast makes for many defence dice, I played my 85 extremely aggressively. The re-rolling of the dice helped me just shrug off every incoming shot.
At one point, this happened:
Tumblr media
My 86 was surrounded by the Cromwells. But guess what? It just didn’t matter. Its Stalinium-forged armour just didn’t care. It didn’t help that my opponent kept having terrible attack rolls. Generally the situation was: He got terrible attack rolls but great defence rolls. I got great attack rolls, however decent defence rolls. And decent was enough.
I could tell he was getting desperate when his tanks slowly but surely kept losing health, while mine only took minor damage.
It led to this situation, which still cracks me up:
Tumblr media
*WWE COMMENTATOR VOICE*: THAT’S THE MOST ILLEGAL MOVE I’VE EVER SEEN!
Unfortunately, as you can see on the picture above, my ISU was already waiting for something like that to happen. And on the opposite side, I had set up a firing line:
Tumblr media
My rolls were kind of cursed, but I then managed to force my opponent to relocate by moving down into the fields, in a way that kept him from easily flanking me.
Tumblr media
He was forced to give up his battle formation, but unfortunately for him, his daring move had gotten him completely surrounded and in the crossfire of all my tanks.
Tumblr media
Even though my 85 had been left by the dice luck (his attack rolls ended up being terrible), the others made short work of the Churchill and one of the Cromwells. That left the last Cromwell at 1 health, meanwhile my tanks had taken 1 (T-34), 2 (T-34), 1 (T-34-85), and 0 (ISU) damage, respectively.
He had to leave for work, and we decided that surrender is the best option in this scenario.
In summary:

This time there’s even video recordings of the match! Part 1 is here. Part 2 here. (Sorry for my quiet voice in part 1, it gets better in part 2.)
Actually I had completely given up on this match, but then everything turned out differently.
It started off terribly for me. I was facing two very beefy IS-2s and a small SU. My own platoon was the usual, but this time I made some re-arrangements to my list to make my Super Pershing even beefier.
The problem was that right at the beginning, that Super Pershing ran in front of the guns of both IS-2s and took brutal hits. Lost half its health and a crew member... but that turned out to be very convenient. While shooting slower than before, it was still shooting faster than the enemy tanks. Additionally, it now also moved faster, which became a huge “plot point”, as it now moved faster than the IS-2s.
Our table was huge this time, but the match happened mostly in the upper left corner, where my opponent kept his tanks in good cover, huddled close together. It was basically impossible for me to poke out to do damage without eating a whole bunch of shells in return.
I made use of my tank destroyers with their Cautious rule, but of course that tactic was bound to fail eventually. It did. I had only managed to take out the SU by the time that both of my TDs were dead, and my Super Pershing was down to 3 health points.
The two enemy IS-2s were still alive and in good health. But it seems like my opponent got a tiny bit ahead of himself when killing my M10 - he had moved his tanks apart, and I managed to squeeze between them with my Super Pershing, immediately taking out one of them with a very nasty hit.
The rest of the match took an absurdly long time. We were just chasing each other, where I was making use of my national rule and the fact that my defence is quite ridiculous. I lost another health point, but slowly whittled down the IS-2, until my opponent finally failed a defence roll and had to admit defeat.
So, yeah! CAPITALIST DEATH MACHINE IS VICTORIOUS ONCE MORE

//
This time I have the honour of featuring a guest report! The original English report is by @sgt-cds, the translation by me.
[English]
Hi everyone!
Today’s battle report is brought to you by one of Arty’s victims. Our battle started with her usual Super Pershing, Jackson, and meatshield M10 Wolverine. My list, however, fielded 5 partially upgraded Soviet Lend Lease M10 Wolverines. My M10s abused a particularly interesting upgrade- a radio operator that gives another tank it’s own initiative.
With this in mind, I crafted two “Command M10s”, as I liked to call them, that had up to ten initiative on the shooting phase. This allowed me to focus my other M10s on doing more damage, as two could still shoot well before Arty’s tanks as long as the command tanks lived.
However, I made a fatal mistake at the beginning of the match. In my search to find suitable cover for all 5 of my M10s so they could focus fire and abuse the Coordinated Fire Soviet ability, I accidentally stumbled into Arty’s Super Pershing. Of all of her tanks, that’s the one I didn’t want to run across right off the bat. Not only did her ridiculous armor save her from being annihilated on the first volley, she escaped with half her health, repaired a lucky (or unlucky) engine fire, and knocked out one of my command tanks.
Tumblr media
Licking my wounds, I retreated away from the Pershing to pick on the more squishy tanks. Here, despite losing a command tank and thus losing the initiative on one other tank, I still demolished her own M10 and gave her Jackson a brush with death, leaving it on one health. However, in turn I lost my other command tank. This meant while I still outnumbered Arty’s tanks three to two, my initial plan had fallen apart, and my advantages were broken.
One by one she picked off my last brave M10s. I managed to put her Jackson down, but in the end it was futile.
Tumblr media
After a brief game of hide and seek, my M10, in typical Soviet fashion, rushed her capitalist powered death machine Super Pershing and died.
Tumblr media
Regardless of my loss, it was a fantastic match, and I had a lot fun!

Hallo Leute!

// Aaaand another match report right away, this time I luckily have a better recollection of what happened. Since my tank destroyers haven’t arrived yet, I had to get a bit creative with the minis.

[English]
Last Sunday I was playing against an old friend - he was the one who introduced me to Flames of War many years ago, which was basically my "entry drug" to tabletop wargaming. It gave me a bit of nostalgia to play against him again and I felt honoured to be the one to introduce him to Tanks, even if that introduction turned out to be more of a baptism of fire for him!
The last time we played, it was at the hobby store's old location. This time we were at the new, bigger location. It has big tables downstairs, of which we used one; although we made the playfield a bit smaller, since the battlefield would have been too big otherwise. It was a pretty straightforward table - no elaborate tactical considerations were made as we set it up. The terrain still turned out to be very interesting. A lot of tactical opportunities, so it's kind of a shame that we didn't get around to using much of that. I think I'll set up the next table in a similar fashion, since it felt very balanced and definitely has potential for dynamic battles.
My opponent brought four tanks. Two Sherman Vs and two Fireflies with some upgrades, which was a force not to be underestimated, but I wasn't feeling too hopeless this time. The initiative was mine this time, as none of his tanks had any initiative buffs. It allowed me to act rather than just react. That gave me an edge for sure, because it's what my list does best. It's how it's meant to be played. Unfortunately, there was a bit of a dampener to my advantage. We decided to stick to the rules rather strictly and therefore used the Final Fury rule, something I prefer to pretend doesn't exist.
As soon as the match began, I tried to get into positions that allowed me to quickly get a line of sight, but I did it in such a clumsy way that I ended up in a crossfire which I didn't manage to escape anymore. My Super Pershing had to take a hail of shells, but the good thing about this was that this is exactly what it's built for. It did take some damage (a crit among it; its turret jammed but I repaired that immediately) , but a majority of the hits didn't make it past my defence dice. So, while it kept soaking up a ridiculous amount of attacks, my tank destroyers had the chance to snipe and mostly stay out of trouble.
I say "mostly" because my Jackson ended up eating two hits, but thanks to its special rule, it managed to stay alive. Meanwhile, the enemy tanks were basically torn to shreds one after another. Despite them taking advantage of the buildings to gain cover, their health points were decreased rapidly by my attacks. Shermans aren't the most fragile tanks, but due to me rolling decently, it took two attacks, three at most to finish them off each.
My M10 ended up in the line of fire after all after messing up a Cautious roll, and that meant a swift death. It had done its part this time though, and nevertheless this was an attack that could have hit a more valuable tank. Somewhat inconveniently for me, the wreck then posed an obstacle to my Jackson't movement.
This lead to it arriving a bit late to the showdown between my Super Pershing and the last Sherman - not that it mattered much. As soon as my Jackson finally arrived as well, I got a bit greedy and went for an all-or-nothing kill, which did work. Even the Final Fury attack that I took in return didn't kill my tank, which I believe confirmed a solid victory for me.
In summary, I think it was an enjoyable match. There were some precarious situations for me, but overall I never felt like victory was impossible.

// Unfortunately I didn’t get around writing this battle report sooner, which means I barely remember the game ... I will try to recount what I can still think of.
[Deutsch]
[English]
As you can see on the picture already, this match didn't end well for me. My opponent showed up with a combination of an upgraded Jagdpanther and Panther, which packed quite the punch.
We were playing from one corner of the table to the other, which meant a lot of just driving towards each other in the beginning. I probably got a bit careless there; that lead to my M10 dying right at the first contact - in the usual manner. It didn't faze me too much, but still meant 5 attack dice less.
My Jackson was unfortunately very busy with sneaking up on the Jagdpanther, in fact so busy that it didn't get to do much else at first. While my Super Pershing stood its ground bravely, it still had to take nasty hits.
The Jackson finally reached the Jagdpanther, which retreated but was taken down with joint forces after all. Too bad that the Panther still had its full health points after that, while my Super Pershing was badly damaged already ... and my Jackson kicked the bucket shortly after.
Somehow I managed to reduce the Panther to a single health point, but it did the same to me. We had by now reached the phase where we just circle each other, hoping that the other guy messes up their defence roll. I went for all or nothing, halted, and hoped that the dice wouldn't let me down ... which they did, unfortunately.
Overall a suspenseful match, unfortunately a defeat, but not one that felt unfair.
