collateral damage. simon 'ghost' riely
he had no idea how it happened, one minute you were okay- shouting orders to your fellow brothers and sisters on the frontline with you, responding to comms thrown your way and still operating the firearm you gripped onto. the next, you were on the floor surrounded by a terrifyingly amount of blood, dripping from your mouth and nose, and the open wound on your jaw.
those around you shouted even louder this time, some joining you on the floor in the same or worse condition.
simons own blood drained from him as he saw your form, clutching your face. you didn't show a lot of emotion, you bottom lip trembled, eyes staring up at the dull sky.
shellshock.
"i need medical now, get me that fuckin' evac!"
"there's fuckin' loads- it's a bloodbath. where's that fuckin' evac?!"
maybe if he wasn't distracted. it's my fault. maybe if he kept his eyes on the fight, instead of admiring you. it's my fault. maybe if he was fucking quick enough. it was my fault.
that's all he thought as he observed you from the wards window, he came every morning and afternoon for the past 2 months. he didn't know if you saw him, truly he didn't want you too. god knows what you think about him right now.
but,
the sight of his reflection walking away in the outside window hurt you, for more reasons than he knew. you knew he was there, every day, for the past 2 months. however, you refused to let him see you, always turning your head away from the ward window when you knew he was about to arrive.
far to embarrassed for him to see the scar. you knew he'd blame himself, that's just the type of person he is; you wanted nothing more then to run to him and say it is not your fault.
but no, not while you looked like this.
"you can't avoid him forever, sweetheart. in a couple of weeks you'll be ready to be discharged" the nurse, alina, spoke with a soft voice as she took your blood pressure. alina was an angel in disguise, sweet old lady with grey hair and an aroma of cookies.
"if you wait any longer, it'll make it worse and i know you don't want that, hm?" you hummed in response.
"what if he hates it? the scar i mean" she looked down at you, cupping your wounded jaw.
"if he's half the man you think he is, he won't look at that scar and see damage- he'll see what you survived, and if he can't see that? then he was never really seeing you in the first place and he's a goddamn fool, darlin" you chewed on your lip, she's right you know?
"but, from the way the man stands at the window and hounds me for answers while i'm trying to catch a break? i don't think you have to worry." her confession made you crack a smile, it made you think.
maybe he wouldn't see it the way i do,
maybe he'd see me.
and he did, because damn the moment he saw you he froze. not in horror, not even in pity. like the air had been knocked out of him, like that one time you and simon were sparing and you delivered a strong kick to his rips.
no words at first, just his eyes locking onto that scar; he stepped closer, slowly.
"this your's now?" he muttered, wanting to reach out and hold you in his hands.
with a dry and tight throat, you muttered a yes along with the nod of your head.
"good" he said quietly, "'cause it means you made it back." he cupped your jaw, softly, carefully, trying not to spook you. it took a lot for you not to pull back immediately.
"don't care what it looks like, sweet girl. you could've come back with half your bloody face missin', and i'd be stood here still." you felt your breath catch, his words hitting you like a ton of bricks.
"you think this changes the way i see you? i- darlin' the only thing it changed was me realizing how fuckin' close i was to losin' you"
a beat of silence,
"and it scared me half to death- not the blood, not the mission, at that point i couldn't give a shit whether it was successful, just...the thought of losing you was scary enough"
you blinked, the harsh sting behind your eye making it so much worse. "i was scared you wouldn't see, me, anymore" you breathed in, didn't trust yourself to speak anymore.
"you've always been more then skin, love"
he, of all men, should know that. being a man of many scars should know, and god he did. he found you captivating, an absolute stunner if you will, even if you stood before him with unwashed hair, dry skin, and weak eyes. beautiful.
i wanted to write a kiss in here but i didn't know how the fuck to do that. pls don't be mad. love you all. lemme kiss you :p

the other woman. simon 'ghost' riley.
unbeknownst to most, simon riley can be a stubborn and blind man. which is why he can- irritate you sometimes.
you and simon had been together for just over a year, everything was going well- a couple hiccups here and there, but nothing serious- that was until a new nurse had arrived at the base. naomi, her name was, she was a sweet girl, a freckled red head, with a confident attitude. sure, she was a good nurse, always lending a hand whenever someone needed it, but she was a barrack bunny. always willing to get a quick shag in with a soldier whenever possible. you never cared about her actions, that was until you noticed simon had been leaving your room every couple of nights to go out with her.
sure, he never lied, he never hid it, but he didn't realise how badly it effected you, he didn't realise he was falling right into her trap.
"'aye sweetheart, going out with naomi t'night. that ok?" simon spoke, walking towards you, pulling a shirt over his head. he smiled beneath his balaclava as he saw you sat on the bed, concentrating deeply on the book that rested in your lap.
you sighed to yourself, you tried to figure out how to bring up the topic of him and the nurse without making it awkward and coming across as if you were angry at him.
closing the book, you leaned forward towards him. "si, do you have to go tonight?" he stopped in his tracks as he looked over at you, studying your face. he was confused.
what's wrong with going out with naomi? its just a bar..shes just a friend.
"well..i don't have to, but id like to..what's wrong with her?" you couldn't believe he didn't know naomi's intentions. for an observant man, he had absolutely no idea, maybe its because he only has eyes for you; he doesn't pay attention to other women. only seeing them as friends.
you played with the corners of the book you were reading. "baby, i don't...appreciate you goin' out with her. you know what she's like, simon." he stopped what he's doing, looking at you for a moment. completely dumbfounded.
"aye?" is all he said. he sat down on the edge of the bed, looking into those eyes he fell so in love with. "i don't understand" no shit
you put your book down and sat up completely, able to talk to him properly. "for a man who has- how many years in the army- you can't see that a woman is trying to get into your pants? naomi is known for sleeping around, soap told me everything, and she's trying to do the same with you"
he stayed silent for a lot longer than what you expected.
"oh."
he spoke, before taking his phone out of his pocket and what looked like- searching for naomi's contact. you watched with furrowed brows, that's all he can say? oh?
new nurse -> edit profile -> block -> delete number
your mouth fell slightly agape as he completely removed naomi from his phone within in an instant, he chucked his phone back on the side and turned to you. he felt horrible, how dare he make his woman feel like that. he loved you so dearly, there was no need for another woman to enter his life. he had you and laswell, and as far as he was concerned that's all he needed.
"so, what do you want for dinner?" he said, removing his slightly fancier clothes and balaclava, which he is more then happy to remove in front of you. the smile that crept its way onto your lips was unbelievable, you let out a small giggle and replied softly with a,
"you.."

leaked. simon 'ghost' riley
it was obvious something had happened, the way people stared at you as you walked past them, they watched as your hips moved, and chest bounced. however- you couldn't understand why everyone had taken some kind of liking to your figure randomly. there was no need for them to, you wore the same kind of clothes everyday around the base.
it wasn't until your captain jogged over to you and pulled you into his office, along with your fellow team mates, that you finally realised something bad had happened. it was obvious that your captain, price, felt a little uncomfortable in explaining the situation. he stumbled over his words a little, he cleared his throat far to much and for gods sake- why does he keep pacing?!
"for christ sake cap, what's goin' on?" you finally spoke up, looking at him and everyone else in the room with a frown. price, and the others looked down as you spoke, apart from one. ghost.
"the fella you, stupidly, got yourself associated with- has leaked somethin' of yours" ghost spoke with his awfully dull tone. you could have sworn you felt you heart and soul leave your body, my eyes stayed glued to his.
"what.." you finally muttered out, in complete and utter disbelief. the man you once trusted with those kind of photos had completely disregarded your wishes of deleting those images you had sent him a while ago.
"he hasn't sent them to anyone, but he's been showing them to people." ghost continued on, crossing his arms across his chest and looking down at you. he was...disappointed in you, thought you were better then to send those kind of photos to someone; but we all know he didn't understand why you did what you did, he doesn't understand why anyone does it to be honest.
you were stunned, how the hell were you supposed to get out of this? sure you could talk to that foolish man you once liked, but that probably wouldn't end very well, you couldn't delete it off his phone..
"what am i supposed to do?" you finally spoke up, your voice a little shaky and desperate. it was embarrassing to admit but you sent those photos because he asked you to and you thought, you liked him; but little did you know you was using him as a distraction. trying to keep you feelings hidden for someone else.
it sounds bad, but he was using you just as much as you were using him. he only cared about one thing, nudes, and he was willing to do whatever he could to get them off you and if that meant filling your head with sweet nothings then that's exactly what he'd do.
price looked up as you spoke, he heard the pain in your voice and god it was horrible. he knew about the issues of men leaking photos around the base, it happened more often then he'd like to admit, but seeing you in this mess; a sweet, caring lady with the desire to do good and treat those around her with nothing but respect, pissed him off.
it pissed everyone off, soap, gaz, but one in particular was ghost.
you couldn't tell, but his eyes were squinted, his teeth clenched, his breathing heavy, and his hand squeezing his own bicep out of anger. sure, it was annoyed at you, but he was far more angry at the man who threw your trust out of the window and purposefully showed you off. how could he?!
"i'll talk to em'" ghost finally spoke up, you and the others looked at him, dumbfounded.
"si, you don't have to do that. i-i'll handle it on my own, after all its m-" he cut you off, you were right. it was your own fault, but he knew how you felt and he was not about to let you deal with it on your own.
"don't be daft, i'll sort it" and he was gone. straight out the door of caps office. the door slammed behind him and you bit your cheek nervously.
"well, thats tha' sorted" soap said, and god was he right.
it was only the next day, and people stopped staring. their eyes no longer followed you or your chest as you walked, no, instead they stared at the ground or simply refused to look your way. it was hard not to smile to yourself. oh, simon. the man you are.
it was now even more harder to mask your feelings for him, he helped you, without a second thought.
where you walked into his office to ask him about it, he immediately looked up at you, his hands stopped typing away at the computer. you let out a small hi, as you closed the door to his office and made your way to the desk.
he replied with a small nod of his head and a quick, you okay?. "im okay, thank you for talking to him" tilting your head a little with a small smile.
he took notice of you small gesture and smirked under his mask, so pretty.. he leaned back into the chair. "'course love".

tap out. simon 'ghost' riley
it didn't take a genius to know that simon riley, had been through hell. no family, close to no friends outside of his line of work. he was the shell of a man, a living ghost if you will; but people knew he was not one to be taunted or made fun of. sure he was a broken man, but he'd never take disrespect.
it did take a genius to know that you, had been through hell. no family, close to no friends outside of your line of work. you were quiet, always kept to yourself, never caused much trouble, unless you were on the field getting your hands dirty- bloody even. no one knew about your past, your story. but you liked it that way.
so, here you and ghost stood. arms behind your back, standing at ease, looking straight ahead.
as of right now, a common army tradition was ongoing, 'tap out' it was called, where the soldiers stood at ease as they waited for their loved ones to tap them out, letting them move, talk, interact with their family etc.
your gaze slowly shifted from the ground, to the families crying tears of happiness as they saw their son or daughter again after months or years of them being gone. mothers held their sons close to them, fathers cheered and praised their daughters for their accomplishments.
and you? well, you stood there, wishing to yourself, that maybe seeing your mother and father pass away was all a dream and that you'd see them walking over to you any minute, with wide smiles and excited cheers.
and ghost? well, he didn't care about the fact that no one was there to see him, to congratulate him; he cared that you, his closet friend since the beginning of training, was stood there. alone.
he didn't understand why, but he could probably guess. nonetheless, he watched as you uncomfortably shifted your weight from one foot to the other. he noticed you didn't want to be there, didn't want to have to listen to the laughs and 'hellos' of mothers and fathers.
ghost could relate, he let out a deep sigh; letting his arms drop to his side, he moved from his spot. he knew full well that he was breaking rules but as of now, he didn't care. not one bit. he walked over to you, eyes meeting with yours almost instantly.
"come on, luv." he said, as comforting as he possibly could. he raised his hand to your shoulder, officially tapping you out. he could see the hurt in your eyes.
"thanks, si" he nodded as you thanked him, he felt horrible knowing your pain.
you let your hands come to your sides, subconsciously, you started to fidget. your rough fingertips played with the hem of your t-shirt. "its not fair that they make us do this.." you said softly, head hanging low, watching your feet as you both walked back into the base, knowing you had nothing better to do.
"mhm" is all ghost said as he looked down at you, clearly seeing your defeated mood. "i wouldn't dwell on it, sweetheart. i know what your thinking" you nodded, not really bothered to speak. you appreciated ghost walking with you though, keeping you company.
"your family is here now, us, me...soap, gaz, price. the whole force, your brothers, your sisters" ghost spoke. you knew he was right, you got along incredibly well with the members of Task Force 141, there were many years full of core memories with the lot of them.
like the time when you and soap got bored one night so you snuck out of the base and found yourselves at a water bank, completely soaked from jumping in. you both laughed uncontrollably as you splashed one another.
or even when you and price sat in his office, having a deep conversation about previous missions, his past, life in general. you two agreed that you had bonded, ending the night with a simple hug.
or that time when you and gaz decided to go a nearby bar, its safe to say that you both got absolutely hammered from the mixed alcohol in your system. you laughed with one another as you stumbled back to base, holding onto one another. laughing even harder as price and soap caught you in your drunken state.
or...or even the time with ghost.
when you two lay on his dishevelled bed, your back to his chest, his arm lazily thrown around your waist, holding you against him for comfort. his hand traced the scars on your waist, your hips, your legs. you stared out the window, smiling to yourself. nothing serious had happened...you both just adored the company of one another, which is why you found yourself falling asleep to the feeling his breaths on your shoulder, and his hand caressing your skin. "you okay?" he had asked you, moving to lie on his back. you had turned to face him. smiling when you saw him already looking at you, his arm rest behind his head. "mhm, always" you had softly spoke.
you smiled to yourself as you finally walked into the base, simon still by your side. "yeah..you're right" you said looking up at the large man. he happened to look down at you, you swear you could see him smile beneath his mask.
"i know..."
lemme know if you guys would like a pt. 2 :)
