This is my animation I have created in Adobe After Effects. I have used my screen printed background, and hand drawn elements in this. This will be projected onto my store walls, to show off the tableware range, as well as adding a sense of visual interaction to my pop up store.

Brand 5: Tiger
Tumblr media
Tiger is a Danish variety store/ retailer chain. Its first store opened in Copenhagen in 1995. The chain now has over 500 stores. The largest markets are Denmark, the UK, Spain and Italy. The chain sells a variety of items, mostly accessories and toys. Tiger takes its name from how the Danish pronunciation of the animal name, tiger, sounds roughly the same as the Danish word tier. Â I like this store as I like the unique items you can find, such as the stationary, and pens, and many other household items. There are also many novelty items, which have affordable prices.
Advertising Campaigns: Tiger uses the use of social Media to promote their products. They do this by displaying them in unique ways, which catches the buyers attention. Overall I like this brand as the products here are good quality, as well as being items you most likely can’t find anywhere else.

Brand 4: Sleek Makeup
Tumblr media
Sleek Makeup has been in the beauty industry for over 20 years. From this they have built a loyal following of fans, as well as many successful products. Sleek makeup is also one of the most fastest growing brands on the high street, creating innovative makeup, with strong pigmentation and high quality. One of the reasons Sleek MakeUP rose in popularity is because of their understanding of skin tones, which caters from fair to dark and everyone in between.
Many individuals use this brand including makeup professionals and beauty enthusiasts worldwide. Sleek also has constant new releases with products that have amazing quality, and also products which aim to make the latest beauty trends truly accessible.
I personally like sleek makeup, as I like the quality they have, and how accessible they are in the drugstore. Furthermore the prices of these products are affordable, and the shade range is wide. Sleek have launched many new products recently, and many of those have become favourites and “must haves” in the beauty community, such as their highlight and contour kits. The brand itself appears very luxurious, with its matte black packaging, and the use of added colour from images of crushed powders displayed.
Advertising Campaigns:
-The use of Beauty Bloggers: Sleek uses sponsorships from beauty bloggers to help promote their products, showing the way in which they appear on different skin tones. The two bloggers that have been recently sponsored are Sabina Hannan, and Habiba Da Silva.
Tumblr media
Overall I think Sleek is an amazing makeup brand, which caters for everyone with a wide range of products. As many different effects/looks can be created depending on the individuals taste. I also like the way they use beauty bloggers to help promote their products, as this shows diversity in the beauty community.

Brand 3: Illamasqua
Tumblr media
Illamasqua is a high-end British born cosmetics brand that empowers people of all ages to celebrate their individuality. With creativity at its roots, the brand delivers award winning, products that champion each and every person's unique personality, capturing the imagination of anyone who wants to accentuate or enhance their look. This makeup brand has luxurious and professional quality products in rich pigmented colours, providing high performing results.
I love this makeup brand as it has high quality products, with a very good pigmentation. Although the products are slightly more expensive compared drugstore items, they are still worth the purchase due to the intensity they have.
Advertising Campaigns:
-Beauty before Age Campaign: This campaign breaks the unspoken prejudice of age, not just in cosmetics but society in general. In particular this campaign looks for beauty without limits of all kinds such as: age limits, because beauty has no sell-by date. That's why the new campaign will feature people of all ages, so that they can be empowered and feel beautiful with bold make-up.
Tumblr media
I like the idea of using a wide age group of individuals within this campaign, as this helps to give a vast representative panel for makeup buyers to look up to, and associate themselves with.

Brand 2: Links of London
Tumblr media
Links Of London is a retail brand of the Greek jewellery company Folli Follie, with headquarters in London, England. It was founded in 1990 by John Ayton and Annoushka Ducas. It sells through outlets in Europe, the US, Asia and online.
I have picked this brand as I have recently brought a gift from this store for a friend. The quality of this was really good, as well as appearing luxurious. There are many different types of metals used in their jewellery, such as: Silver lining, Gold, and also Rose Gold. Silver is used as it is affordable and versatile, as well as adding a fashionable statement. Gold is one of the most precious metals in the world, and has been used in jewellery for thousands of years. This is a rare and valuable material, it contains no oxides meaning that it will not wear away; making it the perfect precious metal for jewellery use. And lastly Rose Gold is used, has become increasingly popular over the years in contemporary jewellery design. It is created when yellow gold is mixed with a small amount of copper and silver to give it a subtle pinkish tint.
Advertising Campaigns:
-Photography Campaign: Â The new campaign captures a more natural and confident attitude, and warm and unexpected poses for its models. The jewellery becomes the main focus of the shoot with clever and interesting close ups in the simple studio setting. I like the idea of this campaign and the way in which the jewellery is the main focus, contrasting against a simple backdrop.
Overall I like the simplicity of this campaign, and the way in which the jewellery almost speaks for itself, through the use of effective photography.

Brand 1: Starbucks
Tumblr media
Starbucks is an American coffee company and coffeehouse chain. Starbucks was founded in Seattle, Washington in 1971. Since November 2016, it operates 23,768 locations worldwide. Starbucks sources natural arabica coffee from three growing regions, these are Latin America, Africa, and Asia-Pacific. Starbucks had only been around for 10 years, and was founded by old college friends Jerry Baldwin and Gordon Bowker and their neighbour, Zev Siegl; they also came up with the coffee company's mermaid inspired logo.
Since Starbucks was named after a Greek mythological character, the original Starbucks logo was designed to reflect the seductive imagery of the sea. The original logo was the image of a twin-tailed mermaid, or siren. Greek mythology has it that sirens lured sailors to shipwreck off the coast of an island in the South Pacific, also sometime referred to as Starbuck Island.
I love this brand as I like the quality of the drinks, and the unique seasonal flavours that are also available. I also like the wide range of drinks, which vary from hot to cold.
Advertising Campaigns:
-Pumpkin Latte: This is a drink which is launched during the Autumn/Winter season, which generates a huge excitement. By doing this Starbucks promotes the return of the pumpkin spice latte by giving people the chance to have the flavour available in their town for a short period of time.
-Tweet-a-coffee: In October 2013 Starbucks launched a Tweet-a-Coffee campaign that enabled people to give the gift of a $5 gift card just by putting both “@tweetacoffee” and a friend's handle in a tweet. This allowed people to interact with the brand through social media, as well as allowing Starbucks to know the Twitter handle, mobile phone ID and customer ID for at least 54,000 customers.
-Behind the Scenes: Although this is not necessarily a specific campaign, Starbucks use of Instagram has been used as part of their branding. They do this by posting interesting images that give people a view behind the scenes of the company. Starbucks also reposts photos taken by fans that show its coffee cups in different locations. This simple idea is a great way of creating a closer relationship with customers and softening the company image by showing the people behind the product.
Charity campaign: Back in 2012 Starbucks teamed up with Foursquare for a charitable campaign that benefited AIDS awareness. From June 1 to 10 Starbucks donated $1 every time someone checked into one of it locations in the US and Canada.
Tumblr media
Overall I think the campaigns used by Starbucks really enhances the presence of social media, which allows the brand to speak for itself. This is done by intriguing the customers through aesthetically pleasing images, which in turn leads to the purchase of the drinks. As Starbucks is a Coffee company the smell and taste, as well as the idea of how the drinks are produced in a store also draws people in.

Theoretical Lecture Studies: Storytelling:
Tumblr media
This lecture focused on the influence of storytelling, and how inspiration for this can be found everywhere. For example this can be found in music, books, news, and media. At the start of the lecture we looked at the origins of storytelling, and the ideas we may have regarding this. Such as where did stories come from? And why are we so fascinated by them?
Another aspect we looked at was the affect of storytelling on the brain, for example the release of the neurotransmitter dopamine, which helps us to remember stories/events with greater accuracy.
We also looked at modern storytelling, through a storyteller called Ian Douglas, who tells stories at festivals. He describes the beauty of storytelling is in its simplicity, which helps to connect people.
Also within the lecture we looked at how we as individuals can tell a story, and the processes we can use, for example colour and type?

Theoretical Lecture Studies: Between Still and Moving Image & Exploring Future Trends:
Tumblr media
This lecture was about the narratives which still and moving images can create, and the different ways in which this can be expressed. In this lecture I learnt that narrative plays a strong role in this, as this is what the audience picks up from the content.
In relation to exploring content from future trends we also looked at making content which moves, as this then provides more engagement for the audience. For example taking a static logo, and adding in a form of animation.  We also looked at how we can explore the use of videos, or a series of pictures with music, which also adds a form of movement.
Another aspect we looked at was using drawing and illustration, and then animating this, which also adds an element of a handmade feel. The mood which sound creates was also touched upon, helping us to understand that music can be used to help the audience feel a type of way.

Letterpress Workshop
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a letterpress workshop I did a while back. During this workshop I learnt how to print letters using a technique which was founded in the mid 15th century. This technique took a while to do, however the results turned out good. I feel that this would work well against different backgrounds and textures.

Lino Printing
Tumblr media
This is work I have done with lino printing. As this was my first attempt at this technique I chose to do a basic design of a frame. I first had to carve into piece of lino, and then print this using inks. I did this in layers, so I printed various colours at a time. I liked how the colours overlayed, and the vibrant effect this had. I also attempted to do type with lino, however this was quite difficult to do, and did not turn out as well.
Overall I like how this technique turned out, and I intend to use this technique again with various other designs for my final piece.

Riso Printing
Tumblr media
This is work I produced from Risograph printing. This was my first attempt at this, and I liked the way this turned out, and the graphic look this has. To produce Risograph printing a collage needs to be made first from magazine and newspapers etc, this is the turned into Risograph prints. I feel that this works especially well with contrasting colours and type.

Book Binding Workshop
Tumblr media
This is a workshop I have done on bookbinding. During this workshop we were taught to make four different kinds of books. I have labelled and included images of these. I liked the way the Turkish map fold folded out, and I felt that this would look good visually with a range of different techniques.

Artist Research
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The artists I have decided to focus on for this brief are Ed Fella, Alan Fletcher, Jenifer Collier, and Will Ashford. I have picked these artists as I like the way there is a handmade element in their work, as well as a use of texture.
From Ed Fellas work I plan to take the element of using text creatively, and layering this with different textures. From Alan Fletchers work I intend to take typography inspiration, for example creatively using text to express the story in the book. From Jenifer Colliers and Will Ashford's work I plan to take collage inspiration to create interesting backgrounds to apply media onto.

Initial Experimentation...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are images of initial experimentation I have done. I did this based on the first ideas I had from the book “The Picture Of Dorian Gray”. The first three images show experimentation with frames, such as a pencil drawing and a simple collage. I used frames as I felt that this linked in with the title of the book, as pictures/paintings link in with frames.
The second set of images show paint, and fine liner experimentation. The paint work is based around Greek gods, and the idea of a mask behind a painting. The fine liner work is based around quotes from the book, which I liked, I have also tea stained the background to make it look more aged.
The bottom set of images show more fine liner and calligraphy experimentation, which I have drawn a frame. Next I am going to add in watercolour into this, and add in more fine liner details. With the calligraphy experimentation I chose words which are similar to the word encased, as Dorian Gray’s soul was contained within a painting.
