I have been ruminating on “The Four Agreements” lately, a book by Don Miguel Ruiz. I just finished listening to the audio book. I highly recommend it! These practice principles are simple and powerful, but to enact them in your life takes practice and patience. I like having principles in my life to work towards and enable me to live a better life. It may not be easy to grow. It takes work over time. That work isn’t always fun. Change often requires stepping out of our comfort zone which is inherently uncomfortable. Know that you are not alone, and we can learn from anything. It is only every four years my high school sport of track and field is on prime time television for the Summer Olympics. I enjoyed watching the Olympic swimming and miss it more than running. All those crazy workouts! The Bret Harte baseball team used to get threatened with having to do our workouts when my step dad was coach. Every member of his long distance track team qualified for sections that year! What an accomplishment for us all : ) @bretharteunionhighschool did not have a pool or swim team back in the day. I wish we had. I miss swimming. We were able to compete at the state meet in Cross Country my senior year of high school. That will always be with me. Thanks to Mauer and OG. I do not feel right saying “happy” Juneteenth. Freed slaves learning two years later they were legally free is a tragedy. It goes to show that law does not necessarily change things unless it is abided by and/or enforced. I was reminded of this saying as fear and self-doubt have come up for me more lately. In my experience fear can lead me to become more reactive and even act out. Also, I have learned, when I act from fear that which I fear is more likely to manifest. I have also experienced the truth in the words ‘faith fights fear’. With enough faith I can act from grace despite my fear and do the ‘next right thing’. I must surrender my fear to God rather than surrender myself to my fear. I don’t feel well right now which can be the hardest time to be in the moment. I want to distract myself, but I am just spinning out making my mood worse. Today would have been my son’s 22nd bday. He had a dream of building a skate park in his community. He drew his own design, met with the local park board, and county representative on his own at age 16. We are still hopeful to bring his dream to reality. There may be developments in his legacy story. We will never give up. We hope to honor him today and every day by doing our best and living our best lives. Stoked to get my 1st #Covid19 #Vaccine shot today @walgreens near my home. My hope is that enough people will get #vaccinated sooner than later so we can be able to do all the things we love to do but have been missing, safely. I look forward to seeing family again, safely. One of the hardest and most important things I have done in my life is to learn how to take an honest look at myself, admit what I find and try to learn and grow converting my ‘mistakes’ into assets for myself and others.
