Written Statement:
For my final project I focused on the lecture of Alan Watts “What is the Meaning of Life & Everything Else?”. Furthermore I added the song “Between the Buttons” by French 79. It creates a stronger ambience in the video and makes it  easier to have a connection between sound and animation.
In the process of this project I decided to work only with type and simple shapes to create a consistent and neat style. After experimenting with flat illustrations like the globe in the beginning of my first draft, a sketchy style in the second draft, I thought it didn't fit the course and the lecture of Alan Watts . Therefore I watched out for other work which is able to communicate a story with a few words, a good choice of music as well as strong use of type. I tried to adapt these parts and combined them in my project. I just chose the most important words for myself and worked with them. In addition I searched for a fitting background sound for the project. The music works together with the background (changing colors) and creates the mentioned ambiance of relaxation and wisdom. Last but not least I watched out for a special but clean sans serif typeface for the video. In the end I chose Charlevoix Pro by the Foundry Pangram Pangram because it fits my chosen criteria.
In the end I tried a lot of different styles and I'm glad to that I started with different ideas and didn't chose the first which came up to my mind. This final project helped me a lot to see how many opportunities I had for an animated video.

08 Radio Ad

Ad for the annual donation campaign of the Catholic Church of Montreal
The Catholic Church of Montreal celebrates their 375 anniversary. Every year the they are starting a donation campaign. In their radio ad they connect both events and celebrate the anniversary with an organ play of happy birthday.
Final Draft
My final draft works completely without illustrations. In the beginning I thought about animating musical notes or the number 375 itself. Therefore I tried to change the colour, the speed of counting or the size based on the sound. The most effective was the size. Despite continuously increasing numbers the size of them was changing in connection to the musical notes of the organ play.
First Draft
In the first draft I tried to create a mixture of illustrations and type. I wanted to show how the organ is played during the song and then deliver the facts with simple motion effects. I want to keep it serious and simple. Although I really cared about the choice of my Typeface. Proza is a bold and unique serif typeface which gives the Catholic Church of Montreal a new and modern Identity.

07 SSAC Event Trailer Draft

Heritage is a well-discussed topic in architecture. Especially real estate property reflects its history, identity, and its people.
To demonstrate such topic, I mainly tried to represent this year’s issue in the trailer for the event as well as the diverse public opinion about it. The first part of the video shows the keywords and thereby attracts the audience with the beats of the sound right in the beginning. The positive views appear on a bright background and the negative ones on a dark background. Afterwards the topic appears! I tried to show memorable buildings in Canada from the past centuries to emphasize the Heritage. In the end, the viewer gets straight facts about the event, such as the location, the date and the association.

06 SSAC Annual Conference Idea

The SSAC is a charitable organization founded in 1974 by a group of people interested in encouraging a greater understanding and development of the study of Canadian architecture. Every year the SSAC organize an annual conference in Canada. It’s always located in a different city and examines historical and cultural issues relating to buildings, streetscapes, cities, and the countryside.
This years topic is “Heritage, Diversity, and Belonging”. It mainly deals about decisions about architectural heritage and how to deal with it. The organization wants to emphasize that heritage is not a static and pre-existing body and rather a result from conscious choices and actions by later generations – processes of cultural selection.
For the 45th Annual Conference from May 28-31 this year I create a trailer for their event. Furthermore I’m rebranding the organization and renew the Corporate Identity.

05 Aplorine Ad

I created the fictive juice company Aplorine. The brand name is a neologism of the words: amazing, tangerine and explosion.
The ad wants to deliver that the juice is a taste explosion. Therefore the three words create tension in connection with the music. Once the color saturation of the words reach a powerful orange the they reach the climax. All these components build a tangerine bomb which explodes and reveals the Aplorine juice. In the end the slogan "taste the explosion" appears to complete the story.

I needed to present my word “focus” in Stop Motion Graphics. It’s helpful to get a feeling about framing, motion, storytelling and sound in the first step.
