Mental Health Week Evaluation                     Film & Event
Event  (GAMING, G6)
Tumblr media
During the mental health awareness week, our group took part in the event on Wednesday, the 10th of May. In our group, we split the event in two parts. My part was to be in G6, alongside Deli, where we would invite people in to enjoy games and have a laugh. The other part of our group were in the quad(Stephen and Jasmine). My job in the group was to greet the people that come in G6 and introduce them as to what is happening and why we are hosting this event. The original idea behind the gaming plan is the fact that we want to make people relaxed. Almost everybody nowadays enjoy games and what better way to make someone relaxed than to enjoy a game of Mario Cart. My personal view is that, our mental health awareness week was hosted during the most stressful time of the year: just before the finals. We realise that everybody is very stressed during this week and a lot of people experience mental health issues during this period, as a lot of stress builds up at this time of the year. This is a screenshot of the event, 5 minutes before opening G6 to visitors.
Overall, we did not have too many people visit us in G6 and that is because of a number of reasons. Throughout the whole week, the weather was horrible. On Wednesday, when our event took place, the weather was the best out of that whole week. This prevented people from coming inside the buildings, as they enjoyed the sun outside. In my opinion this is a mistake which was very hard to prevent, as we already planned the event long before it actually took place. Even if we have thought of weather, we would have no way of predicting the weather in two weeks time. Another mistake which we made is not announcing that the event was taking place. If we had to re-do it again, we would have printed out posters, to notify students about the date, time and reason behind the event. By having the posters, this would have notified the students a few days earlier, which would have allowed for the word to spread and get more people interested, as they are sharing with their friends. One huge factor which also prevented people from coming to our event is the fact that there was an event which was already taking place in the theatre. This kind of overshadowed our event, especially because we did not make it evident that our event was taking place on Wednesday. That created depth to our already existing problems.
We got a few students to come to G6, and i believe that we created a very positive impact on them. The first thing that i noticed about the first person that came to our event, was that he looked stressed. I, alongside Deli, introduced the reason behind our event and invited him to play games with us. We played sword fights, table tennis and Mario Cart on the projector. After we played the games, i noticed a difference in his expression. After we brightened him up, me and Deli asked him how he feels about the idea of the event and what impact it had on him. The feedback was positive as he smiled throughout every single one of his answered. This made me happy, as i felt like we did our job. Even if it was one person at that time, we managed to brighten someone’s day, during this stressful period, as this was our original idea.
Film (Mental Health Awareness)
Tumblr media
In my opinion, our film was the most successful part of this event. The message behind the film is very simple and we managed to illustrate it in the best way possible. Our initial idea was to create a 5 minute short movie, however we had to think realistically about the time that wasn't in our favour. On a list of paper i started writing ideas down for our 5 minute movie. We made a decision to take the main points of that list and put it together in a short 2 minute film. We still managed to have the impact that we initially aimed for. The idea behind the film is that our protagonist has gone through traumatising events, which are symbolised by the blood on his hand, the voices that we can hear and the flashbacks. We wanted to showcase that it is okay to seek for help, when one realises they have a problem in their life. A lot of people keep their problems to themselves and we wanted to break that habit into keeping that in. The plan to use John Davis in our video was also a major success, as he is the head of the mental health department.
Our short movie was screened in a number of form, classrooms, where people could watch it together peacefully. That way, even if people didn't participate in our event, they would still be aware of the message of our film. The idea of using college as our primary location to film was as success, as our targeted audience are also in our college. This will create of belonging, as people would relate with their college student pupil. As far as time went, we used it wisely. We managed to film and edit our film a few days before our deadline. This allowed for improvements to be made, as we had feedback from our teachers. As my role in production, i was providing ideas for the film. I managed to bring forward some of the camera angles and a lot of the effects (the flashbacks, alongside the frame slowing as the voices appearing). Me and Deli had the same ideas, which allowed us to produce our film very fast. This shows that our communication skills have improved as we managed to do our work for a very low period of time.
Overall Impact
The impact of our event reached a number of people and in my opinion it was a success. Our idea was to create a positive impact on everyone involved and even if we had very few people to view our film or participate in our event, we always made people smile. We still managed to convey our idea, that mental health issues are common and that it is okay to talk about them. Everyone experiences mental health issues at some point in their lives and we made it evident that it is okay in having them, whether it is because of stress or a traumatising life event.
I believe i developed a few skills that would be used well in industry. Firstly, the communication between my team was spot on, unlike other group projects, so i can say that i have learned from previous work. This event also built my confidence, as i got to talk to people that i do not know or associate with. In working environment, you need to be very social and show little fear of communication. Another skill i have developed is the sense of organisation and planning. We planned our event and managed to do it in time, which is something positive to take in.

6 Social Action Campaigns
Local:
Campaign 1: http://www.barkingdagenhamccg.nhs.uk/About-us/
This campaign is aimed to change attitudes and strengthen community ties. The Barking and Dagenham Clinical Commission Group is aimed to improve the quality and ensuring the safety of hospitals, primary care, community and mental health. Also the campaign aims to improve productivity of hospital services and such, as well as encourage people to stay healthy. Often, in local campaigns, the aim of them is to improve an aspect connected to their local area. In other words, local campaigns have a small scale goal, as they tend to improve a small part of their community.
Campaign 2: https://www.lbbd.gov.uk/news/local-crime-campaign-welcomed-council/
This campaign is aimed to raise awareness of the work done which has reduced crime and disorder in the area of Barking and Dagenham. It includes posters at rail stations, bus stops, etc. This campaign sends out a message to the residents to let them know about crime in their area and what is done to tackle it. Once again, just like the Barking and Dagenham Clinical Commission Group, this is a campaign with a small scale goal, aimed to improve the area of Barking and Dagenham only. These types of campaigns are small and often not very professional, unlike global campaigns. Local campaigns have a small budget, as they are aimed at people in their community alone and not on a global scale.
National:
Campaign 3: https://www.visitbritain.org/introducing-great-tourism-campaign
This campaign aims to build relationships with subjects, by attracting tourism to  Great Britain. It shows the key elements and the best travel destinations of Britain (culture, heritage, countryside as well as sport, music, food, etc). This campaign also builds awareness of Britain’s attractiveness as a tourism destination. Tourism makes a big profit each year for a lot of countries over the world. This campaign is great, as Great Britain has a lot of historical events and attractions, which makes the country a popular destination. As a lot of people are going to view this campaign, the budget of it is huge compared to the local campaigns.
Campaign 4: https://www.organdonation.nhs.uk/news-and-campaigns/organ-donation-campaigns/
This campaign is to promote public awareness about organ donation transplant and encourage people to share their donation decision with their family and friends (change of attitudes). If for example you die in certain circumstances, the doctors might need to ask your kin for permission and it is a hard choice for them to make. Just like the tourism of Great Britain campaign, this campaign also has a huge budget. This is because the theme of the campaign is very serious and if it didn’t look professional, people would not take it seriously. By looking professional and having a big budget, this allows for the campaign to become more popular and raise a big awareness.
Global:
Campaign 5: http://wwf.panda.org/wwf_news/successes/conservation_highlights_2013___october_edition2/global_campaigns/
This campaign aims to do a number of environmental changes to improve flora and fauna (raise awareness, change attitudes). For example the WKF has recently put an emergency campaign to save Virunga, Africa’s oldest national park from oil drilling and possible de-gazettement. This is a campaign on a global scale, which means it is going to be viewed by millions, even billions of people around the world and raise massive awareness alongside environmental changes. This campaign is 52 years old, which means its very successful and widespread across the globe. These types of campaigns have massive budget, as they aim to make massive changes to the environment and world in general (people’s understanding of certain subjects, etc.)
Campaign 6: http://www.greenpeace.org.uk/global
This is a global campaign that aims to challenge dominant representation and agendas as well as raise awareness. Greenpeace is an international organisation that challenges nuclear power, eliminating toxic chemicals and promoting sustainable agriculture. This is another campaign which has a massive goal in mind. Once again, these types of campaigns need to become very popular and generate a very big budget to be able to actually make some sort of difference. Unlike the WKF global campaign, the Greenpeace campaign is relatively newer and is not as widespread. This campaign is growing with each day, as it is raising more awareness and generating a higher budget.

This is my 2ND PRACTICE Ident
- I created this purely by using garage band, without recording any sound.
- I used sounds that garage band offered, to piece this together.
- This is different to my final ident, as this version doesn't contain recorded sounds by myself.

My Job Role
My job role in the group was mainly about giving ideas and helping with production. Me and Deli wanted to take over the filming part. We talked about what we could produce and we had quite a few ideas. I wanted to create short 5 minute movie but when we looked realistically, we didn't have time. We took the ideas and put them together in a short 2 minute film and it worked just as effectively. I also answered all the question on tumblr, on a list of paper, which we then put on our presentation.
My job also included creating foley and asking people to participate in our video, by using their voice. I managed to convince 3 people, but we only used two voices in the video.

There will be pictures to match each song explaining how they got it, deal with it, what helps them or not and even advice for what people can do in college if they have a mental health issue. This will help people gather some information that could help them through it

Brief Evaluation
For my job role, i picked soundtrack planner and producer. With this job role, i am working closely with the editor to manage the best sound possible for the final piece, as well as consult with the editor and client what sound we can and cannot use. I chose this role, because i have an interest in sound and i wanted to gain experience by working in a team. Overall i was left a bit disappointed by my job role, as i was not able to do fully what i wanted to, when i was picking my role.
The first step of my role was to consult with the client (Chris) and ask him as many questions as i can, to help me get an overview of how he wants the sound to be. I managed to ask Chris a lot of questions which lead me to the conclusion that we were going to use sound, that was produced by the music students themselves, which would make the final product copyright free and original.
Tumblr media
After coming to the conclusion that it was my job to collect the sound from the music students, i prepared a little speech and i created a folder in Mac Shared, where the students can store their work. I presented the speech directly to the music students and Chris during one of their lessons, and i explained briefly that we wanted as much work as possible from them, so any genre of their work can work(encouraging them to put every piece of work they have in the folder, so we have a variety, from which we can choose). After the speech, i wrote the name of the folder on a board, so it was visible to the whole class. I was left with the impression that i did my job, as Chris and the music students were going through what they can use. The next day i check the folder and i did not find any piece of work, which left me a bit disappointed and worried, as i felt like i will drag my team down.
Tumblr media
I consulted with my teacher about it and i was advised to send a message to the client, within i explained the situation. I did not receive a response until i went to Chris’ lesson the following day. I felt like i was nagging him to do something, whilst it was my job to get the work from them. When i went to consult with him, about the issue, i was told by him that the music students do not have actual audio files, and i had to go to another class which was music tech. I was not told about this at the start, which made my job so difficult, by the change of plan. I wasted a lot of time trying to get work out of the music students, when in reality i was not told by the client that i am looking for work in the wrong place. Chris looked a bit irritated, but considering there were two groups working on this project, it would be understandable. After i came in his class, he managed to sent me an email with the links of the original concert footage.
Tumblr media
I was quite relieved that i had some footage after all the hustle of nagging the client about the music.
Tumblr media
I had to check the footage’s quality and talk to the editor about it. Throughout the whole production we had a very big problem with the sound quality from the actual footage. Deli needed some footage from the concert which i had, however after a close inspection he told me that the footage is unusable, because of how bad the audio quality of the original footage. The same day, i went to the music tech class to ask for work once again and once again i was left disappointed by the work that they put in the folder. We got 2 audio files and when i consulted with the editor, we came to the conclusion that even those two files are not usable for the final product. Deli was constantly speaking with the client about everything and i felt like i was left in the dark a lot of the time, as i felt that the editor took my job by picking the sound himself. I tried to help whenever i can, but i was pretty much told a few times that the editor doesn't need help with the sound. On one occasion, i showed deli how to use the Mastering effect, to manipulate the sound quality and volume. After that, Deli was left to experiment with the footage, knowing what i showed him. Another way in which i could have helped was to create the ident sound and have it used in the final edit.
Tumblr media
I took that seriously and i managed to create an original ident, which was created purely by me. I used the keyboard as my piano and i got a pretty decent result in the end. The sad part was that despite my effort, the final ident sound was already chosen and mine did not make it in the final cut.
Tumblr media
Overall, i gained a lot of experience in the sphere of working as a team. Although the experience left me disappointed a few times, it was still experience which taught me to have a mindset of working as a team and doing my role to the best of my ability. If i had to redo the whole project again, i would try to be more involved in the editing side of it and i would prepare more questions to the client. Overall, a lot of the times i tried to do my job to the best of my ability, but i was just left uninformed by the rest of my team, so that is something that they could improve as well.
