john issac the man that you are
when i decided to make this one character for the Atlantis Project (John Issac Jacobs) i created him solely to fulfilll the purpose of "Arlo's Interpreter" but then he accidentally became literally everyones favorite side character, so here's a highlight from the most recent chapter:
I really love him so much, and it's so wild to like him this much because his original intentions was like "barely there character" and then boom he's now everyones favorite.
(Ignore the bit where the second screenshot is just dialogue, it's how I write the first drafts of my chapters.
transcript under the cut:
(Begin Image One Transcript)
Too much time had passed since the pair had last spoken, far too much was required of both men to allow a meeting beyond a passing hello. Arlo found himself missing the man's company. John Issac shuffles a little closer– "Should I give you two some privacy?' It's offered in a teasing tone but when Arlo turns to look him in the eyes he finds understanding in them. He rolls his eyes and doesn't dignify the question with a response.
(End Image One Transcript)
(Begin Image Two Transcript)
JOHN ISSAC: Yeah–it’s chess notation, W-N is white knight, b is the column and the 1 is the row. (ARLO is shocked.) ARLO: I didn’t even know there was N-O-T-A-T-I-O-N. JOHN ISSAC: You don’t play chess? ARLO: Does checkers count? (JOHN ISSAC looks a bit distraught at the question, before rolling his eyes.) JOHN ISSAC: You’re teasing right? You’ve gotta play chess. (ARLO shakes his head and JOHN ISSAC sort of buffs up his chest.) JOHN ISSAC: Looks like it’s my turn to teach you something.
(End Image Two Transcript.)

Tag Game: Character Profile
Rules: fill out the information for one of your OCs!
Thanks for the tag @floralmusings !
I'm gonna do this for Endeavor Amadeo, because he's my favorite character in The Atlantis Project.
I'll tag @waxflowerwoes @roabythecow1 @goldfinchwrites !! But if anyone else sees it feel free to do it and tag me when you do!
Full Name: Endeavor Arlo Amadeo.
Nicknames: Doc, Arlo.
Species: Human.
Age: 26-30ish (I don't think I ever set a formal age).
Gender: Male.
Appearance: I always "cast" an actor that like, emulates the characters face well, so that actor is Ben Wishaw. But more specifically Arlo is 5'7. He's got a willowy build. Dark hair color, usually kept longer to avoid the reminder of his military service. Green eyes. He has a pitted and rather dramatic scar across his neck where a bullet entered and exited.
Occupation: Historian/Archaeologist. Mostly works in a research capacity. He was a soldier during the war. (World War II, for context).
Family: Mother (died), Father (died).
Pets: None.
Best Friend: None? Maybe John Issac, when they are on the ship.
Describe Their Room: He has a standard (temporary) living situation on the ship which is really the most referenced thing. But his apartment is only mentioned once at the beginning. It's very cluttered and homey, full of books and things like that.
Way of Speaking: Arlo cannot speak due to his injury so he mostly communicates through ASL/BSL. On occassion when he does speak it's very breathy and painful.
Physical Characteristics: Scar, as mentioned. He has four tattoos, that are meant to be his connection to his Atlantean ancestors. He has one on the inside of his wrist that is his family connection, another that is a mark of what his magic is, and then two more i haven't specifically defined.
Items in their bag/purse: He always has a notebook with him to write down what he needs to say when the interpreter isn't there. He usually has his camera, as well as a magnifying glass and various small tools.
Hobbies: He's a nerd, so research. He draws too, and is pretty good at that.
Favorite Sport: None.
Abilities/Talents/Powers: So excited about this question, so Arlo has a watered down version of his ancestors ability to divine the future. More specifically he has the ability to see peoples "threads of life" which are threads that follow people around and are a specific color that matches the person whose thread it is. These form tapestries, that look almost like cloaks on peoples shoulders. If Arlo concentrates, he can ignore the tapestries, but he always sees the threads. If he were to grab a hold of someone he would see flashes of their life, whether past or future. Later in the book this becomes more powerful.
Relationships (how they are with other people): He's okay with other people. He doesn't really like being around people, because he's found they have very little patience for his inability to speak. But when he starts sharing about his research and things, he gets very excited and "chatty" (aka, signs a lot).
Fears: No idea. Death probably.
Faults: He's definetly a bit, trusting at times. Especially with people who have the "okay" from other people. He struggles with PTSD and has an inability to take care of himself. He would rather help every other person in the world rather than himself.
Good Points: He is an optimist.
What they want more than anything: To find Atlantis.

the characters of the Atlantis Project
The following are pretty aesthetics I made and tiny descriptions I wrote for all of my main characters for the project.
As well as a quiz I made for them, here's the link, and reply with who you got!
STORY ONE: (1957 story)
Endeavor Amadeo is the main character of the main story, the one that takes place in 1957. He is the "brains" behind the search and the character with the most knowledge about Atlantis as a whole.
William Moore is the Admiral of the Macon Rhodes.
Charles Bell is a soldier that Endeavor Amadeo worked alongside during World War II. He is also the one that approached Amadeo with the mission parameters.
~~~~~
STORY TWO: (1200 AD)
Jah-Naheel (Prince Naheel) is a prince of one of the kingdoms of Atlantis–Kingdom of Autochita–and the main character of the second story.
Kulto is a citizen of the Kingdom of Diaprion, and Jah-Naheel's guard.
The Atlantis Project
(Photo Transcriptions available below the cut. I really wanted it to be pretty so it’s all screenshots, sorry.)
Begin Photo Transcriptions:
-Photo One: A series of ten lettters from the writing system called Atlantean.
-Photo Two: Screenshot of text. All of it is center aligned. The first line of writing is in bold and says, “‘I meet you’ in Atlantean.” The word Atlantean is in italics. On the next line there are five tildes to seperate the lines of text. The third line is written in a smalled font and says “On this page you will find lore, worldbuilding, a created language, far too many details for one story, and a smattering of memes created just for fun.” This is followed by five tildes again. The next line says, “‘The Atlantis Project’ is a historical fantasy story told in two parts.” This screenshot ends with five tildes.
-Photo Three: The first line says: “The First:” The second line says “1957 London” in bold. It is followed by three paragraphs of text. “A retired Army soldier turned historian Endeavor Amadeo is approached by an old friend with a mission unlike any other. He is tasked with finding the lost continent of Atlantis, a feat deemed impossible by many. But Amadeo has more up his sleeve than he is willing to share. He carries with him the stories of generations of Atlanteans that fled their country, artifacts that fill a shoebox that now encompassed the whole of a continent's identity, and a language that has not been spoken in centuries. He is joined by the crew of the Macon Rhodes and Admiral William Moore for his journey. The Admiral will become a welcomed friend during the months of travel throughout the Mediterranean Sea, south of Europe, and the northernmost coast of Africa.A story of riddles and puzzles and finding lost things with the help of an eager naval crew and a newfound friend.” This photo also ends with five tildes.
-Photo Four: The first line says “The Second:” The second line says “1200 BC Atlantis” in bold. It is followed by three paragraphs of text and two lines of writing that are one sentence each. It says “The continent of Atlantis has thrived untouched for many centuries in its spot in the Atlantic ocean, the home of their goddess Noseah. The ten sons, created from the mountain’s own hand, each crafted kingdoms with an individual purpose and a beauty of their own. In the centuries that followed their creation the ten kingdoms of Atlantis created a space of their own on their islands.Of these ten kingdoms, the two queens of Autochita, the northernmost island, have chosen to pass on the rule of the kingdom to their son, Naheel.But, before he can be king, he must first honor the journey that the mountains took to create the ten sons. He must travel to the nine islands and take part in the culture and beauty of each, to fully grasp the effect that each of the kingdoms has on his own. Prince Naheel begins his journey in the grasslands of Gadeiria, with a handsome guard who is sworn to protect him no matter what.This is a story of a Prince’s journey to become king.And it is the story of how Atlantis came to sink and be lost in the sea it once worshiped.” This photo also ends with five tildes.
-Photo Five (the last): The first line says in bold “Information About This Tumblr.” This is followed by three bullet points. The first: “This is mostly just for fun, I like to share the process of working on this project with people and I thought that this page would be the best way.” The second, which is bold and italics, “Everything found on this page is my own creation, unless otherwise specified.” The last bullet point says: “While the story itself does not (yet) have a name, it has been referred to consistently as the “Atlantis Story” or “Atlantis Project” in all of my notes and research that I have conducted over the past few years.” This screenshot ends with five tildes.
End Photo Transcriptions.
