☽ Moving News ☾

Hello!

After much deliberation I have decided to move accounts. An in depth explanation can be found here. Long story short, this is a side blog. With art becomes a more serious aspect of my life I want to have a true full blog for my work. 

So I'm moving to a new domain! Nothing is getting delated or removed, I just simply will not post here anymore.

Spider-Man: No Way Home made me so nostalgic for my high school days, obsessing over Spider-Gwen.

It was that initial volume (along with Young Avengers) that got me into comic books.

☆ Electric Android: Magical Girl Juno ☆

I am bursting at the seams to write out all the ideas I have for this lady’s story. Her shawl, skirt, and other glowy aspects are made of a adaptive “hard light”. Don’t think about it too hard, It’s sci fi. Her design is based on mid-century anime, 1950s fashion, and miller moths. 

It took forever for me to finish these images as I could not decide on a background. I’m in a bit of a rut on how to make my “character design” work look interesting. Look better as full images rather than just design's. Alas, something to work towards in the future. 

Oh I also have a bonus “mode” she can adapt too. Cyberpunk intrigue indeed!

Monster High Lagoona Blue : 2021 Edition

After a mini hiatus doing other art, I am back in the Monster High Zone. 

A small recap on these illustrations as its been a hot minute. These designs are based mostly on the Monster High books, with some details of the dolls. All mixed together into a hypothetical pitch for a teen drama-esc reboot. 

Laguna was a nice opportunity to explore more athleisure or casual clothing. At lest compared to the fashion of her friends. Plus curly mermaid hair. All ways a plus.

Sabrina “The Teenage Witch” Spellman: 2021 Redraw

I sorta deiced on a whim this would be an annual tradition now. I’m very happy with my improvements (especially in facial proportions. 2018 you ok?), but also my speed. It would just take me so agonizingly long to get any illustration done. Nothing would kill my moral like a glacial pace.

Monster High Draculaura: 2021 Edition

So hey uh, Monster High started trending again. How about that?

I wanted to give Laura (her name in the books) a mix of cute pastel fashion and gothic grudge inspired looks. What teen doesn’t want to be soft and cute and cool and edgy at the same time? That’s honestly Monster High to its core.

I also hope you all like pink. I promise you, I tried to bring in as much secondary colors as I could but the draw of rose tones is too strong.

Monster High Clawdeen Wolf : 2021 Editon

Sooo my last “2021 redesigns of Monster High inspired by the book series and my own aesthetic whims” went over rather well. So now it’s a series.

So next up Claudine (how her name is spelled in the books)!

I knew she was gonna be the hardest from the start. Claudine is fashionable in a modern, cool way, and I only dress in anachronistic vintage clothing so it was a struggle.

Thus I stuck closer to her doll designs. I also think her dolls had some of the most amazing outfits so you must indulge me.

Monster High Frankie Stein: 2021 Edition

All right, so stay with me here.

Did anyone else read the Monster High novels? No? Well I did. Those things were foundational to my childhood.

I’ve seen so many amazing modern day updates to the original dolls I thought: “hey, I should design a 2021 update to the book versions of the cast”

And you know, one thing lead to another and it kinda spiraled into an entire Monster High AU. Like you do.

Concept character sheet 5/5: Meg

Meg is a young teacher at the girls school, the New Rochelle Academy. Little is known about her personal life due to private nature.

The final member of this yet to be named magical girl team(we’ll get to it). I may draw side characters or some key art of the girls. Only time will tell.

Concept Character sheets 4/5: Lenore

Lenore excels at her dance, socializes well, and is all together a well adjusted person. If not a bit vain and lacking in self awareness.

Her practice outfit is probably my favorite individual design out of everyone. It’s so much more like my regular color palettes.

Concept Character sheets 3/5: Regine

Regine is one of the top students at her school. Yet despite her Immaculate skill, she’s a rather cold and off putting person.

Each girl in the “squad” are all based off of specific ballet heroines, though it’s not super obvious who is whom. That was on purpose, but bonus points to any who who can guess correctly.

Concept Character sheets 2/5: Theo

Reserved and elegant. Theo is sophisticated beyond her years, but she’s still rather awkward from her lack of worldly experience.

I did not intend for Theo to have slightly 1970s inspired fashion. I find contemporary fashion to be so hard to design. I inevitably fallback on semi historical looks.

Concept Character sheets 1/5: Sika

The main character from a story I can only describe as “Suspiria with magical girls”

This is from a webcomic pitch I’ve been cooking for awhile. It has yet to find a name, which you know. Finding one would probably be best. The story is an urban fantasy-magical girl-fairy tale-horror hybrid. Thing. I’m going to try my best to not spoil too much of it too fast as It’s a goal to show it all to you in full one day.

It astonishes me that there is so few magical girl stories based on ballet or stories from ballet. It’s such a prime concept to explore.
