Definitely Isao Takahata's Akage no Anne. It's the only one, as far as I know. The BBC's lost series from the seventies comes closer, with a blend of brown and gray.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Apparently, for some reason, the other three main live adaptations made it blue. Maybe to match better the actresses skin-color undertones? Who knows...
Anyway, I prefer it brown, mostly because I still think an autumn palette looks wonderful on red haired people. And because in the booksverse having Anne making up a name even for her first pretty dress is such an "anneish" thing to do. It's a pity they always leave it out.
Are there any adaptations of Anne of Green Gables that keep Anne's first pretty dress brown, or are the costume designers all cowards?

I love how in these illustrations Anne still has short hair at the time of the "day of the pond".
Cool Anne illustrations I stumbled across!

JoLH  book covers
Tumblr media
When you need to buy a new copy of a book, what’s the first thing you check?
For me, if it’s a physical edition definitely the cover. The more detailed and  representative of the novels content, the better. When it come to LMM, and it’s not Anne, it has to be recent, cause the old versions are usually out of print.
The ones I was able to find for “Jane” are not few though. There’s actually plenty of choice.
So, ... from left to right:
1. Tundra Books.
2. Virago.
3. Bantam.  (Out of Print)
4. Sourcebooks.
5.  Principis. (Portuguese edition)
6. Jomarch  (Italian edition)
7.  White Press
8. Hesperus Classics
9. Kindle  (Japanese edition)
Edit: I’ve found this old forgotten draft of mine from a couple of years ago, scribbled when I was looking for a physical edition of Jane of Lantern Hill, which I only had in my ebook reader.
I ended up chosing the Sourcebooks one. Even if until the very end I was also conflicted between Virago and Tundra. I think all three capture the novel’s spirit very well. But I chose Sourcebooks because they have the prettiest covers of also the other LMM standalone novels, and I wanted to collect all of them in the same edition.
It was part of my last Bookdepository haul, and finding this draft again has reminded me of how much I miss it.
BD was my go-to place to find all the LMM upcoming publications. You could find basically everything there, if you set the search filthers the right way. From the most beautiful latest edition from all over the world, to the derivative books, or those improbable covers which never failed to make me laugh.
I miss it so so so much. None of its replacements can compare at the moment. I still blame Amazon for its demise.

The production team from the upcoming anime uploaded a new background picture two days ago, adding to the previous three already published.
From top to bottom: "Green Gables", "The Birch Path", "A sunset view of Avonlea", and last but not least, "The White Way of Delight".

I've found your news a little late, but thank you for sharing.
This lovely little show will always held a special place in my heart. I'm so glad I was there when it was airing. Those were fun times, with all the transmedia storytelling and the fourth wall breakings.
Definitely my favorite AoGG adaptation among the most recent ones.
An update on how to watch GGF:
Hi everyone!
It’s been a while.
We’ve been so glad to see new viewers discovering and watching our show, years after our last episode aired in 2016!
A lot of time has passed since then. Many of us have moved on to projects and careers beyond YouTube, but GGF still holds a very special place in our hearts.
Recently, some of our team have been feeling the need for greater privacy in this current age of the Internet. Out of respect for this, we’ve decided to set the GGF videos as unlisted.
We want to reassure you that the show isn’t going anywhere! It’ll still be available on YouTube for you to watch and share with friends. We know that educators have found our videos to be a helpful classroom resource for teaching Anne of Green Gables, and so we don’t want to take the show away from anyone who’d like to watch it.
Going forward, the GGF videos will be available to watch via the public playlists on Anne’s channel and the GGF channel. The individual videos themselves will be unlisted, so they’ll be less likely to appear in a search, but you can still access them via the playlists on these channels, and linked here:
Anne’s Season One Vlogs (just Anne’s videos)
Anne’s Season Two Vlogs (just Anne’s videos)
GGF Full Playlist - Season 1 (this includes the supplementary videos by Gilbert, Josie, Ruby, and Jane)
GGF Full Playlist - Season 2 (this includes the supplementary videos by Fred and Diana, Phil, and Ruby)
We’re so grateful for your continual support and love for our show! Thank you for always being kindred spirits and the best viewers.
If you have any questions about this, or difficulties with access, feel free to hop in our ask box.
With love,
The GGF Team.

What a surprise! Another new "Anne of Green Gables" anime is currently in the works. The new adaptation will be titled "Anne Shirley" and it is said that it's story will be based on first three "Anne" novels - "Anne of Green Gables", "Anne of Avonlea" and "Anne of the Island". The anime will be scheduled to be released on April 2025.
As for someone who had watched a lot of classic literature based anime for a long time, I think that news is some sort of slap in the face to Nippon Animation, an anime studio known for making a lot of anime based on novels particulary the "World Masterpiece Theater" series. Considering Nippon Animation is planning to have 50th anniversary of that studio next year, seeing a certain animation studio having interest of doing an anime adaptation of the novel is a sign that the former should never rely on their nostalgia and try to step up aside from selling merchandise. It also means there are people in animation studio in Japan who believe there's still a market to these kind of anime. Here's hoping that the new "Anne of Green Gables" anime will receive well.

A new Anne anime series?
I was surfing the wide wild web when I stumbled upon the news of an upcoming Anne of Green Gables remake of the 1979 Akage no Anne anime.
Tumblr media
I instantly had to bring back from the dead my old LMM little blog because I needed a place where to talk about it.
I only know that it's going to be called simply "Anne Shirley". I suppose the Heirs of Lucy Maud Montgomery still hold the copyright about the AoGG title and we are definitely going to see every other Anne related show make up their own moniker in the years to come.
Apparently it will be out in 2025, I still don't know exactly when, but I can't wait. I really hope it's not going to be just a remake, not only because Takahata's craft is hard to top (and they need to do something different in my opinion), but also because I want the animation studio to go beyond the first book this time around. So that we can finally have a proper adaptation of at least Anne of Avonlea and Anne of the Island.
I wonder if Kate Mac-Donald Butler is involved ..., I hope so, because if this is the case there is a chance that it's going to be faithful to the source material.
edited: it's due to be aired in april 2025. I'm positively optimistic about it. (crosses fingers)
