Hell yeah Frankenstein is my jam!!!

I want to check interest in a possible project. If I spent the first 23 weeks of 2023 running a newsletter sending out a chapter of Frankenstein a week, for us to weekly Frankenstein like we are running daily dracula, except there aren't any dates. It would just be a chapter a week sent out in order, would anyone be interested? We'd just read it together and fucking meme it like we are Dracula. Just really running with the Tumblr as a book club idea.

I'm right now just checking interest. This would be a lot of work so I'm not doing it if there is zero interest. So some sort of response beyond general likes that can mean anything would be lovely.

Putting this in the Dracula Daily tag. But I also want to tag @thebibliosphere because I feel like Joy is the ticket to making this happen. (Or at least find out if anyone wants it.)

This is the same thing these silicon valley fucks want; their vision of the future where everyone has a unique biometric ID code implanted in their body is the ultimate extension of Netflix’s “no password sharing” policy. You want to use your friend’s car? Sorry, you can’t, you need to be an authorized user. Your mother wants to let you look something up on her OED account? Too bad! That’s only for her! The concept of perfect market efficiency gives them greedy little money bag eyes.

If I pay money to have a newspaper sent to my house, they don’t charge me extra when I show it to my dad. This password sharing thing isn’t just a Netflix problem; don’t be surprised if it shows up elsewhere in other forms. Stamp this idea out now or we’ll be stuck with it.

Unlike many other games (such as Animal Crossing, or browser-based pet games), your petz and the world they live in will not suffer on days you don’t open the game. Petz will only gain neglect if you refuse to play with them on a day where you have booted up the game - a “launch day.” Feel free to take a hiatus, because your petz and their little world will be right where you left them when you feel like returning to the game.

Also, petz don’t die. They literally ran a poll in 1997 asking players if they wanted petz to die like Tamagotchi do, and the players said no. Petz will “run away” if severely mistreated, leaving the game, but old age will not destroy your petz.

Even if you don’t want to play Petz, I recommend looking at petz fansites. They’re just as much art as the mods are.

In case anyone is wondering what real-world train drama is going on, there’s this.

The tl;dr is that Amtrak wants to run two passenger trains per day round-trip (4 runs total) between Mobile, Alabama and New Orleans, Louisiana, restoring a service that hasn’t been there since Hurricane Katrina in 2005. CSX and Norfolk Southern, two major freight train companies, have resisted this idea, saying it would mess up their traffic, especially since Amtrak’s passenger trains would get priority (by government decree, believe it or not).

So now Amtrak is on Twitch streaming the line to prove the line isn’t too busy for them to run passenger trains.
