I’m back!

After a 3 week long vacation through 2 hurricanes (yes, I experienced both—more on that later), I have finally returned home (technically that was Wednesday but shhhhh) and relearned what it means to have a very important job with a lot of responsibilities 😵‍💫 No one other than my therapist wants to hear about that, though, so here’s a recap of my visit to DisneyWorld!

*DAY 1 - MONDAY, MAGIC KINGDOM*

I LOVE THIS PLACE SO FUCKING MUCH. I almost cried walking down Main Street!!! Nostalgia hit me like a brick, and I’m a sucker for immersive environments. Our group decided to stay together, and we rode more rides/saw more attractions that day than any of the others. Of course, we started in Tomorrowland (the best section), and we did all we could there except for Tron and Space Mountain—one had a huge wait (Keith can’t stand for very long) and the other was closed. We moved on through the park and eventually hit Big Thunder, which activated Keith’s “native Texan” genes, as he said. He let out the most rootin’ tootin’, cowboy shootin’, southern lovin’ YEE-HAW I’ve ever heard from him. He did that more than once throughout the week, of course 🤣 Pirates is an obligatory ride, because I am, again, a sucker for nostalgia and immersion. I think we skipped lunch that day, which was the right choice, as we had a dinner reservation at Chef Mickey’s 🤩 All of us got autographs from Mickey and Friends, and we returned to the park later to watch the fireworks show, and then FINALLY ride Space Mountain. I LOVE SPACE MOUNTAIN. Literally one of the best rides ever. I’m bummed I only got to ride it once this time around, but not too bummed, because I still got to ride it!!!!!!! Disney pls sell Space Mountain shirts Keith and I will buy all of them immediately 🙏 We left after that and promptly fell asleep almost as soon as we entered our hotel rooms—cool stairs pictured in the first image!

Because of the war, I lost everything: my home, my work, and my husband's work. We became homeless and because of death that always haunts us. I was displaced with my husband and children with all the feelings of fear and pain 😟 fleeing the bombing and under the showers of bullets, walking on foot in search of a safe place to take shelter in 😭. We did not find any place to take shelter in and we spent a few days under the showers of rain without shelter. We now live in a tent that does not protect us from the heat of summer or the cold of winter.

Life has turned into a mixture of suffering, pain, and searching for a living. My children suffer from diseases constantly due to the polluted water and widespread diseases. My children were infected with hepatitis. I faced many difficulties. My house was demolished 🥺 and my husband lost his job, which was Our livelihood, my family home and my childhood were destroyed and we were left with nothing. Memories were erased and because of the repeated deaths we were displaced for the third time amidst the bombing and destruction. My beautiful city has become a place of ghosts, unfit for life.

We are now homeless and without a livelihood😭💔

Please help me so that I can leave the Gaza Strip with my children and husband and we can live in peace. Help me to rebuild my life, to restore my children's childhood, help me so that I can provide a decent life for my children and husband🙏🍉❤

Urgent 🚨

A girl's life goes from good to worse in a matter of months. Life is really strange,

In moments, all your conditions go from good to worse than bad. I think that what I regret most is that I did not photograph every corner of my house, I did not photograph every detail in the house, I did not photograph every joy we lived in this house. I was under the illusion that there was no need to photograph it because it would remain and nothing would happen to it. All we imagined was our life in it until death. It never occurred to us for a moment that it might disappear and become a pile of rubble. These are some of the pictures I took in my house and my family’s beautiful house.

This is all that remains of our house, and they are memories, some of which are beautiful and some of which are sad, but they are just memories. After living in this house for 25 years, I grew up and was raised in this house and lived in it every moment of my life. I was happy when I got married and when my family was in the most beautiful pictures of love and friendship, and I was sad when I left my parents’ house for my husband’s house. The house lived in my heart, but unfortunately, in this war, nothing remained of it and they demolished it in an instant and presented my husband’s and my house as if there was nothing here. They erased my house and my parents’ house and all the beautiful memories in it and it became just rubble on the ground. We go to it every now and then because even though it is rubble, I am still attached to it.

Then comes a strange feeling after this. You are in your city (Khan Yunis) and you cannot return to your home. You cannot return to your place because you cannot live inside the rubble. We settled in the summer in a small, exhausting tent that you cannot enter except to sleep. It was not originally ours. Our friends gave us this place to sit in temporarily after they saw that we did not have a place and that we had unfortunately become like homeless people.

We always thank God that there is something surrounding me and my family, even if it is a tent, from a beautiful and spacious house to a small tent that can barely accommodate us. The war did not only destroy our homes and dreams, but it also destroyed our youth. When I look at my old photos on my phone, I cry for myself, my family, my people, and everything we have achieved here.

These are some old photos that I love and that are really me away from the war, the sun, carrying water and living in tents. I put more than one photo because I miss myself before the war and I love these photos very much and I wanted to share them with you. Because of the tent life, most of the time all that surrounds you is the sun and because of the lack of water, I go to a far place to carry water here under the sun, so my face and body become like someone who is 60 years old and not a young woman in her twenties.

I wrote this simple little story about how my family's life and mine in particular changed between before and after, without details, so who can donate and help me and my family so that we can get back a part of our beautiful life? Today I find myself in a situation I never expected. The conflict in Gaza has left my family in dire need of assistance.

This war has taken our livelihoods and our factories and now we are struggling to survive. I had a carpentry shop for making furniture, which was my source of income to support my family and was a source of security for my life, but now it has been destroyed and all the hard work of the years was lost in a short moment.

I had a home to shelter my family and children, and the occupation also destroyed our only shelter, and the streets became a bed for my children.

Each of my children had a dream to fulfill. My eldest daughter Dima dreamed of becoming a doctor to treat children, but now I don't know if I will be able to fulfill her dream. My second son Aboud dreamed of becoming an architect to build the country and what the wars destroyed. The third dreams of becoming a mechanical engineer, and the fourth dreams of becoming a painter to color our lives with the most beautiful drawings. These were all our dreams before the war, but the war destroyed everything.

I am Nour, I live in Gaza, I am 19 years old, I graduated from high school in the science section with a GPA of 91.3, and here my dreams began to come true, as obtaining this GPA made me join the engineering department at Al-Azhar University, and I have been waiting for this dream for a long time.

While I started in the first year and the first days of university study...
