I forgot to post this yesterday. Oh well. Better late than never!
For spirit, I drew a cheerleader because I took my interpretation of spirit asĀ ā€œteam spiritā€, if you get what I’m saying.
The right leg is a bit off, but I still like it!

The first thing that came into my mind when I readĀ ā€œknotā€ was human knot (no, I don’t know why). Here’s my reference:

I drew this yesterday. It probably doesn't show up that much 'cause it's in pencil. I really like it, but I know I can do better. I'm gonna draw more people/drawings from Pinterest so I can get the hand of faces, proportions, and hair. šŸ˜…

A smol disclaimer that I am Muslim. Also, don't turn the comment section into a bloodbath please lol. The post's objective is so non religious people do not bully or assume the worst from a religious person because of their beliefs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, another disclaimer, for the first point, it's directed at non-religious people who still believes a religion's teachings is homophobic/transphobic/etc. "As much as person A/or their beliefs are homophobic/transphobic religion also teaches to not be assholes, therefore not every person who are religious will support homophobia/transphobia/etc.". Religion is interpreted differently for every person, and I do believe the entirety of a religion would not support harmful beliefs, so the first point is to not immediately assume someone is homophobic/transphobic/etc. even if you believe the teachings are. (The overall teachings I won't elaborate because it is meticulous because this post is for non religious people to not immediately think religious people are bad people for no reason other than their beliefs).

You are amazing, and so are your tips!
Do you have any voice tips to offer???
Tumblr media
OH MY GOD SOMEONE IS REALLY ASKING ME THIS SOMEONE IS REALLY ASKING ME THIS GYAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!Ā
Okay, composure Emily…composure!Ā
1.) A common problem that people have when singing is that they think raising their head up when they can’t reach a note will help. Let me tell ya, it really won’t. In fact, it will cause vocal problems down the road and really strain your voice. Tipping your chin down and level to the floor not only works better but sounds better.
Tumblr media
2.) Stop using Glottal Attacks. It’s what happens when the edges of your vocal cords strike against each other in over closure. A good way to stop using them is to put softĀ ā€œh’sā€ in front of words that begin with vowels. For example: everyone –> hh-everyone, I –> hh-I and always –> hh-always.
3.) VERY IMPORTANT TIP THAT PLAGUED ME FOR MOST OF MY CHILDHOOD: DO NOT I repeat DO NOT BREATHE WITH YOUR SHOULDERS! It used to make me shake while I sang and despite what you think, no it will not give you more air. Instead of breathing like that (vertically) you need to breathe from your chest area (I mean like around your ribs, diaphragm, etc.)Ā Ā
Tumblr media
Cup your hands around your ribs til the point where your fingers are touching. Slowly, and without moving your shoulders, breath from your abdomen. Imagine you are like a balloon being inflated. When you exhale your stomach should go IN and when your inhale your stomach should go OUT despite what cartoons depict.Ā
This reply is getting really long so I’ll finish it up with how you START up. Warm ups!
4.) Warm Ups. Doing warm ups before you sing is healthy for your voice and makes it easy to sing higher or lower without strain.Ā
This first one is called Lip Trills but I like to call it the Jean Kirschstein exercise. You know how a horse flubs it’s lips? Like BRRRRR! That’s how this works. We all do it when we’re bored but here is an example of it:
Tumblr media
Yes, you look like a catfish, but it helps so it doesn’t matter. While you do this you hum different pitches. I do 1-2-3-4-5-4-3-2-1 which is basically like sliding up to the third and back. This may sound complicated so I’ll record a clip of it on vocaroo.
The next one is 1-5-1-9-1. We can sing this using various vowels but I use Ee-Ah-Ee-Ah-Ee.
LAST TIP! YOU NEED YOUR MOUTH TO LOOK LIKE A FISH…somewhat. When you sing things with vowels likeĀ ā€œeeā€ orĀ ā€œieā€ you tend to make your mouth wide like your smiling. DO NOT DO THAT. Instead, do this.Ā
Tumblr media
Imagine that painting the Scream? Isn’t that what it’s called? Anyways, the painting of the guy that’s screaming. He holds his hands near his mouth in shock. For the time being until you can break that habit of smiling on those ie and ee words try doing this and see if it helps.Ā
If you have anymore questions feel free to ask! This is pretty much what I’ve learned from 10 years of singing lessons.Ā
Once again, I apologize that this post is really long. Thank you for asking! I love talking about singing in general!Ā

Great reference! I also love your art style. =)
Oh and I wear pants but they’re always loose and my shirt always cover my butt. And when I pray I always wear a long skirt. šŸ˜…
What to consider of you are creating a Muslim OC or Muslim clothes that follows closely to the Qur'an and Hadith
Not every Muslim wear it like this, but this is a tutorial if you are considering designing Muslim clothes that follows closely to the guidelines.

I may add another tutorial in the future for stylized clothes or basic cloth head scarf tutorial. These are just basic guidelines to consider before designing the clothes.

Art Tutorials!
Greetings! Meanwhile, I wanted to thank you for all the support you’re giving us here on Tumblr, really means a lot! ā¤ļøĀ
I would like to start using this blog not only to show our works but also as a personal diary of our artistic journey… so let us know if you are interested in any particular content!
So… why not start with some artistic tutorials? :P
CHAPTER ONE:
an artistic mind makes an artistic guy.
Before throwing ourselves in a deep technical vision and some kind of ā€œhow toā€ things, I find truly important to talk about attitude and mental arrangement, because a thing like knowing how to unlock when you are not inspired, are as significant as know which tool to pick. Or maybe more important, really.
Tumblr media
Ā 1) PRACTICE
Ā The first thing that we need to say is that, like everything, to obtain results, you need practice, time and passion. Everyone can draw decently, just need some practice and time. Natural talent doesn’t really exist at all, of course for some people, truly passionate on what they’re doing, should need less time that other, but believe me, with constancy and dedication, you can do everything.
Tumblr media
2) SELF CRITIQUE
Ā Second thing you need to know is to be a self-critique, it’s really important to understand errors, and learns from it. That’s the fast way to learn something. Neither an instructor can gift a teaching better than that, because when we fail of course we feel bad, but for sure we will learn how to avoid this next time.
Tumblr media
3) RESEARCH
Third fact is: when you feel stuck, don’t give up. Just take a breath, think about what you don’t like in your art, and then try to solve it. Example, you’re drawing a face. However, it looks horrible to you. Well, try to answer that question: why I don’t like this? The eyes are too small? His nose is awry? Look too flat? Well, then try to improve the parts you dislike. You don’t like that at all? Take a break then, some minutes, an hour, a day, rest on your eyes really help a lot. Maybe on your first attempts you don’t make some masterpiece, but is important to rejoice of small success and remember that a bad drawing will never, listen to me, never, be a failure, because from it, you will learn a lot, and believe me if I say that you became better after that.
Tumblr media
4) FIND INSPIRATION
Ā At the fourth position, we’re talking about finding inspiration. Inspiration it’s not something like a mana bar that needs to charge, of course on some day we really don’t’ want to do anything, but you don’t need a divine touch to make some art. So, my best advice is to look around, look at your drawing from distance, see the world around you, just make some steps in your room or go into the courtyard to take a break, or maybe search some image on the web. Take a look on the real life, to find some references to put and transform it in a piece of art. And well, let’s talk about references. If you’re attempting to make a realistic drawing is essential to use a model, a photo to study how the light build the shape, how the texture looks and the proportion are connected with different part, but even if you make a cartoon character you need to take elements from real life. Even on an abstract painting you may find useful to put some elements in it, because from reality human use to find a correspondence, an identity, and it’s what can give to your art a personality. So to make art it’s very important to learn to observe. Don’t just watch at something, observe, trying to understand every part in a thing. Sometimes to make a good painting is all about details, and the best way to know how to do is to synthesize what our eyes are teaching to us.
5) (extra tip) ENJOY!
Ā Art doesn’t have to be a frustrating activity, it doesn’t have to make you feel inferior to others or even better than others. Ā It must be a way to express yourself, both with pleasurable and sad emotions, must make you feel free to communicate and not to feel yourself closed in a corner of your room. You have to relax, make you smile, but don’t make you suffer, make you cry and make you angry. Certainly the creative process is not always fluid, but if you really like what you are doing, then everything else will not matter. Besides, art has a therapeutic power, and it can really help in difficult times. The art is our friend, who listens to us, and likes us. Not our rival that makes us angry, hurts us and makes you hate everything else. So always remember to have fun, first of all :)
I know, that may looks boring and useless for some of you, maybe you need to know how to make a perfect color blending or to make a realistic eye just with a pair of strokes, but attitude is the most important part of everything in the life. Learn from your error, never give up, and I’m sure you’ll create a lot of a masterpiece.
See you next time, talking about tools and everything you need to be an artist!Ā

One day. One day I am going to draw a full head of hair like Rose’s.
Tumblr media
@gender-ninja asked if I could do a tutorial on how I draw Rose’s hair. And honestly I’m real bad at teaching anything but I hope this is at least a little bit helpful!

art tips post
for all the artist following me
Have two sketchbooks: One for finished and high-quality art (stuff made with PrismacolorĀ or CopicĀ if you use that or art for your portfolio) and the other sketchbook for more messy doodles. This way you have a place to try new things and mess up as much as you need. When I only had one sketchbook I was scared to draw in it because I didn'tĀ want to mess it up
Do studies. I cant tell you how much I'veĀ improved just by doing studies of shoes, hands, noses, and all that. This works for when you have art block too since you’re not really making stuff up and just learning how real things work.
Learn from others. I’ve never taken a real art class because 1. I can’t afford it and 2. there’s no good art classes/programs at my school. I’ve been following several artists and learning from them over the years and they’ve helped me tremendously. Just please do not steal art because that is never okay.
Break down concepts. If you notice there’s something wrong with your piece then figure out why. You can’t get better if you leave mistakes and don'tĀ try to understand whats going on. If the color is weird figure out if the values look right or maybe its the saturation of the color.
Watch youtube tutorials. Here are some youtubersĀ I think are pretty good art teaching all things art: Draw with JazzaĀ |Ā  DrawingWiffWaffles |Ā  ProkoĀ |Ā  Baylee Jae
Have an inspiration folder/blog. Sometimes you just need a collection of starry nights or a misty forestĀ or even a French bakery. All of those things can help you get inspired to draw. It could even be completely unrelated to what you plan to draw.
There are no dumb ideas in the creative process. If you want to draw a lizard in a dress go for it! If you want to draw various pastriesĀ with faces do it! Don’t let the thought of it being too dumb stop you because if I’ve learned anything in my several years of drawing it’s that an idea can lead to another and another and another and you may get a really good idea just from doodling dumb things.
Here’s a few things that can get you started on drawing better:
Dynamic posesĀ | Dynamic clothesĀ | Dynamic figure drawing
COMPOSITION | PERSPECTIVE | CONSTRUCTION
Anatomy:
Legs
Arms
Hands
Heads
Body (Female) (Male
Color Theory
Improving your sketchbook
Most importantly, don’t give up! You may not immediately get notes or followers but it’s more important you get better than to have popularity. How do you think those popular artists got to where they are now? To be good you’ve got to work at it.
