ok so kind of life update:

I am back to working in food service hell, but my hours seem to have kind of stabilized and living arrangements got wonky for a bit there, i'm still unpacking but things are normalish now

i'll likely actually have the time/energy to write again now (i've been way too burnt out to try for like the last two months) but i want to build up a bit of a chapter buffer before i start posting so that i dont go radio silence for months at a time again

once i have that buffer in place i'll post an update schedule but im loosely estimating that first updates will be posted by july

Trying to work on fanfic and both our cats decided it was the perfect time to cause problems:

The Baby™ who very much needed to be in my lap despite my laptop being in his way, not sitting on the laptop but making it incredibly hard to try to type around him

and

The Little Snot™ (not pictured), who thought that was the perfect opportunity to get on the table (somewhere he is very much not allowed), and refused to get down until I physically got up, dislodging The Baby™ and my laptop to do so.

I'm feeling good enough to start writing again but I'm hella struggling with which ones to start on so Imma have y'all decide for me (descriptions under the poll):

Ancient Forces isn't on here cus I'll be doing that one for sure, but I'll also be focusing on whatever 2 get voted highest. (Also R&D will be getting fully started over)

Epitaph: OC has quirk that allows him to see ghosts and utilize their quirks by having them "possess" him. Found family vibes with dark undertones. Himiko and Dabi never join the LOV and Shinso and Izuku team up with OC to form a hero team. Quirkless Izuku.

Of Monsters And Men: Azula pov of how Ozai's praise for her power and disdain for Zuko's kindness shapes her decisions, with a slightly different outcome during her role in the war.

R&D's Resident Dictator: OC gets dropped through a portal from our world to one of fiction. While attempting to find a way back with the help of Danny, Tucker, and Technus, he learns engineering skills, but the issue of food, money, and housing comes up. He snags a job at Wayne Enterprise as Lucius Fox's personal assistant and soon becomes a ruthless leader within the department.

Bringing A Whole New Meaning To Spiders Georg: An Alchemax lab stumbles their way into a portal generator that shows them glimpses of the spiderverse. Using the portal generator, they "recruit" test subjects to experiment on creating their own lab grown spider-men. Several years into the project, their subjects rebel and are taken into the safety of spider society, where most get labeled as anomalies and are shunted into dimensions where their presence is deemed unable to damage the canon. The story follows three OCs navigating the world of bnha, with tumblr formatted memes included.

The Inescapable Urge To Make Things Worse: A Quasi-Immortal mutant that's been keeping a close eye on SHIELD notices when the tesseract gets stolen, and signs herself up to help stop Loki, reluctantly working with the newly formed Avengers to do so. A joking threat aimed at Stark results in the man (predictably) pushing her buttons to see if she'll follow through, and now she has to figure out how to break into his house to fill his shoes with oatmeal without getting caught.

Reflected In Their Eyes: A Tony POV of realizing he doesn't know who he is outside of the public's view of him, and his journey to figuring out who he wants to become.

Biblical Sight AU: Based off the post by schuffel-danny and art by jackalspine, where halfas can see angels true forms.

Escaping The Guantlet: Sirius wants to find a way to help get Harry out of having to compete in the Goblet of Fire. After a trip to Gringott's reveals a living parent, he sends out letter after letter begging them to claim guardianship and withdraw Harry from the competition. With time quickly running out and still no reply, he makes a trip to Avengers Tower to confront them head on.

Best Spider AU: Best Jeanist as bnha's Spider-Man, with only a minor change to his canon quirk.

So he knows how to do it right, he only does it wrong when actively trying to manipulate his brother

Playing animal crossing, eating strawberry sundae, and cat cuddling

Life is good :D

The first thing Danny noticed upon opening the door was the light, unnaturally bright and oddly colored.

The second thing he noticed was what the light was coming from.

A creature stood on the sidewalk, seeming to be turned towards the street -something Danny was unsure how he knew, considering the numerous different animal heads littering its body, all set facing different directions.

The light appeared to be coming from atop the being, something akin to a crown of pure energy glowing from its place over twenty feet up, reflecting off of the thing’s body like the way the moon reflects the sun. Blue and gold and purple and black burn bright, shifting and shimmering like some messed up kaleidoscope, highlighting an impossible number of limbs, yet leaving no highlights or shadows on anything that isn’t the creature itself.

Six massive wings stretch asymmetrically from the body of it all, the largest set nearly a hundred feet across, the smallest a still impressive thirty feet. Most of the wings looking singed and rotted despite the healthy sheen on the remaining patches of iridescent black feathers. White bone glints through what flesh and sinew is left.

The sight of the being is startling on its own, but the quality of its image makes Danny’s head hurt. It seems as if the thing appears smaller than it is, like looking at a highly detailed image that’s been shrunken down and compressed. And like that isn’t enough weirdness for one thing, its form is almost superimposed on the form of a regular human man, although Danny can’t actually see anything about the man because of how bright everything is.

One of the men at the door is saying something but Danny can’t hear him, electricity humming loud in his ears, wrapping him in the smell of ozone and Danny knows it has to be coming from whatever it is that’s standing on the sidewalk in front of his house.

Reflexively squinting, Danny does what he does best (or worst depending on who you ask). He opens his stupid mouth.

“What the fuck is that?”

To his immediate and immense horror, the thing seems to turn towards him at his words, form shifting and rippling, the sound of electricity picking up in volume. Fear shoots down his spine at the thought of having the creature’s attention, but it just stands there for a moment, all its heads slightly tilting in perfect tandem. Lightning and petrichor sit heavy on Danny’s tongue, scent so strong he practically chokes on it, as the being speaks.

“I am an angel of the Lord.” The man’s voice is gruff and matter of fact, but the angel (holy shit angels are real?) sounds of thunderstorms and cloudy days, so close to ghostspeak but somehow more ancient and primal. “What, might I ask, are you?”

So, I love when characters are problematic imperfect beings.

I am also currently obsessed with Epic: The Musical.

This brings me to my main point: I am very not normal about Calypso's Songs.

So like, I don't actually care for Love In Paradise, like at all, but it is a very well done song and it gives us a great starting off point for Calypso. It sets us up immediately with the understanding that Calypso does not respect Odysseus's feelings or boundaries at all. She's very infatuated, but more with the idea of romance than with Odysseus as a person, and she outright laughs at all the attempts Odysseus makes at defending himself from her.

He made it super clear from the very beginning that he was uninterested, especially when he threatens to outright kill her if she doesn't back off. She isn't misunderstanding anything about his feelings, she knows he doesn't want any sort of relationship with her.

In the latter half of the song, it's clear that they are in a physical relationship (most likely nonconsensual) and that Calypso continues not to care about Odysseus's feelings still. The entire cliff scene where she's trying to talk him down, she isn't actually listening to what he's saying, and it's only once it becomes clear that her love isn't working that she switches tactics and tries to use Polites's words to convince him, which -very understandably- just makes him more upset.

Now, I really like Not Sorry For Loving You. When Hermes tells Calypso that she has to free Odysseus, her whole fantasy crumbles around her and she becomes a bit desperate to convince Odysseus to stay. She still refuses to listen to Odysseus, she outright cuts him off when he tries to console her. She apologizes, not for her behavior, but for the fact that he didn't appreciate her behavior. The whole apology sections are just her making herself feel better and not any true remorse toward the consequences of her actions.

On top of the manipulative not-apology, she explains her actions away with the whole "you're all I've ever known" nonsense, acting like that makes her behavior acceptable or even reasonable. She doesn't say anything along the lines of not knowing her actions were wrong or anything like that, just that Odysseus is special to her, and from what we saw in Love In Paradise, she definitely knew her actions were uncalled for.

Her anger at her own feelings when Odysseus tells her of his platonic love for her, the immediate change from "lie to me" to "I hate this", feels more to me like anger at her inability to maintain the delusion, and the final "why won't you love me too" is a shifting of the blame for her feelings back onto him because nothing went the way she wanted.

Anyway, Jorge Rivera-Herrans is an amazing storyteller and I think he did a wonderful job of portraying manipulation while making the songs absolute bangers.

A follow up to the Best Spider Au (aka Best Jeanist as Spiderman), I was thinking about the specifics of what his power set would look like and I've kind of settled on two options.

Option 1: Literally the normal Spider abilities (wall climbing, enhanced healing/senses, super strength, etc) with organic spider silk production, with the silk being used in regular Best Jeanist style.

Or

Option 2: Can produce any natural fibers from a spider gland thingy on his wrists and only gives the illusion of regular Spider abilities because of how he uses his powers.

I think I'm leaning more towards option 2 just cus I think it would be fun to play around with how he would make that work and what it might change of the character we know him as, but I'd like to know what y'all think.

Salami brought up how 'the superior versions' of Spiderman can make their own silk instead of making it in a lab (once again completely correct opinion), and the idea that if their spider silk doesn't dissolve naturally and is also super strong, then they could make their suit out of it.

This, coupled with being reminded of just how op Best Jeanist's abilities are, led to the thought of a Spiderman Best Jeanist that can specifically produce his own silk would make for a really cool hero actually.

I will, however, admit that he would probably be one of the most painfully strangely costumed Spiders I'd ever have the misfortune to mentally picture.

Salami is, once again, the most correct person ever, and I'm simultaneously mad at and ferally intrigued at the idea of Best Jeanist Spiderman.
