“Tragically available. Well, I suppose tragic isn’t accurate. Getting in a relationship with the world ending was something no one rushed into. There’s some serious hook up culture going on in the Shatterdomes. It was flawed reasoning of course-that if we just didn’t say we had feelings we wouldn’t be hurt if we lost them.”

“When they’ve got a crush or affection for the other person they’re drifting with. Then they try to pretend they didn’t purposely block the drift, like I can’t tell by the readings.”
She set down the piece of tech she’d been tuning up. “And that’s how I know what you just said is rubbish. You denied in a similar manner. You’d be interested, if he was. You have an admiration and affection.”

The truth was, sleeping was as exhausting as staying awake these days. It was very hard to fall asleep, and once he got there, it was just a stream of blue tinted nightmares.

“When we win this fucking war I’m moving somewhere hours from the nearest ocean. Preferably lakes, too. Maybe Vegas. I heard the real estate is cheap these days. That might be because transporting fresh water is more of a luxury than ever, though.”
Jazmine sighed as she observed the water, staring it down like she expected one of the Kaiju to appear without warning, despite all their equipment.
“Being floating staff is kind of messing with me, too. Different time zones and all. None of the Domes are in the same one. LA and Anchorage are closest, but then Panama is freaking EST or Central.”
Anchorage was where the Academy was. Where she helped test cadets on their ability to drift together; and how well they could flow through their memories. It wasn’t home anymore though, not when there wasn’t a team to be part of.
