it is kind of wild to me to see people read kris' narrative as exclusively the experience of being transgender rather than what it is like to be mixed or otherwise not visibly [belonging to] a community. the transgenderism is under the surface as it pertains to interpersonal relationships; the immediate reading will always be kris' deep-seated apprehensions based on appearance indicating them as the stranger to be given a sideways glance, something still difficult to bear emotionally even if you are not treated as the outsider to be ousted. sometimes the ambiguity can be even more difficult, in fact, because any upset in response will disturb the alleged peace

Who makes more sense to be the one to save tenna from dying alone in the snow. The girl who gave him newfound hope, assured him he wouldn’t be thrown away, who is all about defying the prophecy which presumably includes tenna being expected to die. Or the man who hates tenna and whose only interactions w him in chapter 3 are 1) trying to talk to him and immediately resigning that he will never attempt that shit again and 2) literally saying he will die presumably bc of prophecy knowledge, with no rebuttal. Answer quickly
