maybe i'm just not a big enough hunger games fan but i have to say it feels very weird the way some people seem to perceive suzanne collins and the hunger games. like she's infallible and exists on a higher plane of morality or smth.
(this is not a suzanne collins critical post btw it's a "some of y'all need to stop pretending that you know exactly what's going on in suzanne collins' mind" post)
it'll be like "she would NEVER approve of these movies" and yes i realize that lionsgate has publishing rights, but she writes more thg books KNOWING that lionsgate is going to make these movies out of them. for years i saw "suzanne collins is the best bc she wrote an original trilogy and then left it instead of clout-chasing with a bunch more books", and then here we are today with tbosas and sotr. similarly ppl will be like "why are people just buying the hunger games to read for CLOUT this is CAPITOL behavior they don't DESERVE these books!!" but if suzanne wanted to write political books for a smaller audience she could just write books outside of the hunger games universe. and then there was "guys stop asking for haymitch's games you guys are JUST like the capitol for that suzanne will NEVER write that" but then she writes sunrise on the reaping and it's all "oooo new hunger games book". and ofc now there's "suzanne wrote sotr because people thirsted over young snow in tbosas" and bestie she didn't have to write tbosas at all if she didn't want to give snow a sympathetic* backstory. and whenever there's fandom discourse there's always a bit of "wow you are falling for the CAPITOL PROPAGANDA!!" bc obviously suzanne put all these bits of propaganda in the books as some sort of misdirect so that the Good Fans could band together as the ones who See Through It.
everyone needs to chill. pls.
*we can argue all day about whether snow has a "truly sympathetic" backstory, but she did not have to make him a poor orphan boy if she did not want to. she did not have to make him follow lgb to d12 and she did not have to make lgb write "pure as the driven snow" about him. she did not have to make him cry after sejanus and she did not have to make him get bit by the snake under the scarf. she did not have to write a backstory at all if she did not want us to consider who president snow was before he was panem's tyrant.
**also yes i am aware that in many of these dualities it's not necessarily the same people who are going "suzanne would never!!" and then cheering it on when she does
#ok wow i did not realize i had that much pent up about this lmao#truly i understand that i'm not like. a “real” hunger games fan. but the parasocial presumption that any celebrity#infallible or whatever just. it grinds my gears.#anywayssss#hope.txt#fandom wank

i just saw a post on reddit titled "the writer is cooking but the food doesn't agree with me" and it was about OP clicking off a fic because they don't like the direction it's going in. slightly different context but can we all be more like this reddit OP. i think "the writer is cooking but the food doesn't agree with me" should be the new "don't like don't read." dead doves may give you diarrhea but don't make that everyone else's problem.

Idk there's something really sweet to me about fix-it writers. Like, me and you- maybe we couldnt make it this time, but in another universe, a million people saw the pain of our story and are writing us a happy ending, giving us the chance we never had

Ok new game. What's the thing you're a fan of that you're the most pretentious about. NOT the most pretentious thing you're a fan of, I mean the thing that makes *you* act like one of those "oh yeah? Name five of their albums" people. There is a difference
#prev fr sometimes i'm such a bitch about “classical music”#sometimes people say their faves are bach and tchaik and i'm like#that's BAROQUE and ROMANTIC. kill yourself.#(jkjk i'm sane i swear)#(also yes i am aware that classical music also refers to the western musical tradition encompassing multiple historical eras. whatever)
